PS4 games on PS5: Your top questions answered

Details on backward compatibility, how Game Boost enhances select PS4 titles, and more.

When the PlayStation 5 launches this November, more than 99 percent of the 4000+ games available on PS4 will be playable on PS5. We know you have questions about how PS4 games will work on PS5, so here is a quick overview on some common questions we’ve seen from the PlayStation community.

What console generation games are supported with PS5’s backward compatibility feature?

We are focused on the huge catalog of games on PlayStation 4, and we’re pleased that more than 99% of PS4 games will be playable on PS5 on day one. This includes games that have defined the PS4 generation – from critically acclaimed PlayStation exclusives like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, to blockbuster hits from our third-party partners.

What is the difference between playing PS4 games on the PS5 Digital Edition console, versus the PS5 console with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive?

The gaming experience on both models will be the same. However, how you access the content to play will differ:

PS5 Digital Edition

  • You will be able to play digital versions of your compatible PS4 games on the PS5 Digital Edition console. These will be compatible PS4 digital games you have already purchased, or plan to purchase, via PlayStation Store on PS4, PS5, web or PlayStation mobile app.
  • Since there is no disc drive, you won’t be able to play your PS4 disc-based games on the PS5 Digital Edition.

PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive

  • You can play digital versions of your compatible PS4 games you downloaded from PlayStation Store on PS4, PS5, web or PlayStation mobile app.
  • You can also use physical PS4 game discs.

When you sign in to PS5 with your account for PlayStation Network, you will automatically see your library of played PS4 content through the menu.

Be sure to keep the PS5 console updated to the latest system software update available, and apply all available game patches to the game.

What is the PS4 game experience like on PS5?

PS4 titles get even better on PS5. Select PS4 titles will see increased loading speeds on the PS5 console, and will also leverage Game Boost, offering improved or more stable frame rates. Some titles with unlocked frame rates or dynamic resolution up to 4K may see higher fidelity. Additionally, PS4 games will also take advantage of some of PS5’s new UX features, but more to come on that later.

Are games from PlayStation VR backward compatible?

Yes, PlayStation VR games are included among the thousands of PS4 games that are playable on PS5. Please note that playing PS VR games on a PS5 console requires a PS VR headset, DualShock 4 wireless controller or PlayStation Move controller(s), and PS Camera (for PS4), which are sold separately from the PS5 console. Also, the PS5 HD Camera is not compatible with PS VR on PS5. You’ll need to use the PS Camera (for PS4), and the PS Camera adaptor (no purchase required), to use PS VR on PS5.

What about PS4 games on PS Now and PS Plus?

Backward compatible PS4 games included in PS Plus or PS Now will run on PS5.

Can I stream PS4 games on PS5?

Yes, Remote Play from PS4 to PS5 and PS Now streaming are supported. The benefit of streaming is that you can save your storage space on PS5. Please note that PS4 games will not leverage PS5’s Game Boost through streaming.

How do PS4 game transfers and game saves work between the two consoles?

You can transfer digital games, game data, and game saves from a PS4 console to a PS5 console using LAN cables, or by connecting wirelessly (WiFi). If you’ve already stored PS4 games and game data in the external USB storage device connected to your PS4, you can bring them over to PS5 with that external USB storage device. And if you are a PS Plus member, you can also sync PS4 game saves on PS5 through cloud storage.

Please note that the ability to transfer game saves between a PS4 version and a PS5 version of the same game is a developer decision, and will vary title by title for cross-generational games.

For Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, when players decide to upgrade from PS4 to PS5 their game saves will transfer.* Sackboy: A Big Adventure also will support game save transfers from PS4 to PS5 in an update that will be delivered shortly after the release of the game.* We’ll share additional details on both games closer to launch.

How will I know which PS4 games aren’t playable?

Games that are only playable on PS4 will be noted on PlayStation Store as playable on “PS4 only.” We have a list of games that are only playable on PS4, along with additional information on backward compatibility here: playstation.com/ps5-backwards-compatibility

*If players originally purchase a PS4 game disc, the PlayStation 5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive is required to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version of the game and transfer their saves over.

  • Will I be able to just use my external hard drive instead of transferring data?

    • Although I forgot to mention that the external HDD is used to play PS4 games only.

    • Yes, only if your external HDD w/ PS4 games installed isn’t corrupted then your PS5 should be able to recognize it.

    • Yep – “If you’ve already stored PS4 games and game data in the external USB storage device connected to your PS4, you can bring them over to PS5 with that external USB storage device”

    • Do you guys have Roblox on ps5

  • If I buy a digital copy of Sackboy: A Big Adventure on PS4, play it there and then upgrade to PS5, I’ll be able to play it on my PS4 again?

    • Since the Link is not working folks, here are thr list of games that are PS4 only (got from external source since Sony’s link isn’t working lol)

      DWVR
Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma – Volume One
TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
      Just Deal With It!
      Shadow Complex Remastered
      Robinson: The Journey
      We Sing
      Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
      Shadwen
      Joe’s Diner

    • Sony please make a list of all 4,000 compatible titles please😉👌👍

  • All great information. The list of games that don’t work is small and while I own a couple of them I don’t mind playing them on PS4. Glad to see your cloud saves just work and that I can just unplug my HDD from the PS4 and plug it into the PS5 without having to format it.

Any word on when we’ll hear about that free PSVR camera adapter? We can’t use it until we get it.

    • That is not what they said and it’s not even possible to plug your ps4 HDD into the ps5.

    • @battlesat6. I presume by unplug the HDD from the PS4 and plug it into the PS5, I presume they meant an external HDD, which as stated in the article is possible.

    • You can in fact plug your external HDD into the PS5 for PS4 games only. You cannot store PS5 data on it.

    • @Max actually they have said that you can store PS5 games on an external HDD. You just can’t play them off it. So you’ll have to move them back to the internal if you want to play them.

    • If I understood correctly, you’ll just transfer PS4 game data to your PS5 via the LAN cable, you won’t plug PS4’s HDD into PS5.

You will also be able to stream PS4 games from PS4’s HDD to PS5 via the home network. For disc games, you’ll have them inserted into PS5.

    • Yeah!

I’m glad to see the majority of games should work.

However, I am a little disapointed, because I was expecting ps5 update patches for first party games…

I thought it was a no brainer (since both consoles are x86 architecture) to have Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, The Last of us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima all enhanced to work at 4k60fps at launch.

    • THIS. This is just incredible news. “And here’s how it works on the PS5 – just install it and play.” It’s as simple as I’d hoped and even more comprehensive.

While I wish there was a firmer policy around PS4-to-PS5 upgrades, the honest truth is that this is the same policy as on the XBox – developers can choose to make the upgrades free or charge for them, and not all developers will jump on the free upgrade bandwagon.

There is nothing but good news here…well, except for no details on the camera adapter. I, too, am still waiting to hear about that. For those with PSVR the news that the PS5 camera won’t work is new, and perhaps disappointing, but probably not a serious issue for most.

    • @lospollos1992 Sony stated that all games launched after June 2020 should be PS5 compatible, maybe not a PS5 version but a game that will take some advantages on PS5 hardware, anyway, games that can be enhanced on PS4 pro (HZD and God of War are on that list) should also benefit from the PS5 hardware

    • @lospollos1992
not every game code can handle Game boost.. they need to test it title by title basis.. i hope majority of PS4 AAA games will get boost mode
      hope for the best

  • Will we also be able to bring over our captures?

Long shot here but will Remote Play for PS5 be supported on PS Vita?

    • Just re-read the remote play section and I realize you mean PS4 to PS5. I’m still curious about all things remote play with PS5.

    • I really doubt your captures will carry over considering you couldn’t even move them between two PS4s

    • @MakoSOLDIER: I, too, would like to hear clarification on whether or not PS5 supports Remote Play – not as a client from a PS4, as mentioned here, but as a server to Vita, Android, PS4, PC, etc. That’s a great feature, and I hope they’re keeping it this generation, even if they have to throttle the video quality to make it happen (I could see 1080p/30fps as a max for Remote Play FROM the PS5).

  • When you get rid of ps3 and vita games from the online store on website and ps app will you fix the store on ps3 and vita consoles so that it is possible to buy stuff as ps3 on console store has not worked for a long time

    • Edit when you remove it in two weeks I mean

    • The PS3 store is a mess. I tried loading it yesterday after I heard the news and the purchase button never appeared on any listing.

    • It loads incredibly slow but I was able to purchase the Suikoden series without issue. It is definitely not a good experience though.

    • Wow. I missed that. A quick google confirms your statement. Sony continues to pretend as if PS1-3 and Vita never existed outside of PS Now. I appreciate backwards compatibility for PS4, but Sony really did a number on our PS3 and Vita investments. There was ZERO technical reasons for PS5 not being able to emulate PS3’s cell since reliable emulators having existed on PC for years now. Going forward, I am excited about a couple of PS exclusives, but ANYTHING that’s not an exclusive, I’ll be playing on PC or Xbox.

  • What about the PS Plus Collection? Sony says the collection is PS5 only, but if those are in fact PS4 games being added to the library and running on PS5, what keeps me (a current and long time PS Plus subscriber since PS3) from adding these games to my PS4 library?

    • Nothing is going to stop you from doing it. Them saying it was a PS5 benefit was sort of just marketing speak. Unless they went in and added a special license that causes it to only work on PS5 and I doubt they did that.

    • Mercenary09, I really hope you are right! Thanks for the optimism

    • I could see them making the PS Plus Collection a PS5 benefit only available on the PS5 store as an incentive to purchase the console. Food for thought!

    • Probably PS5 only as we won’t be getting ‘free’ PS5 games for a long time, so it’ll start with the usual PS4 games and the addition of this mini-catalogue until PS5 games are added

    • @turniplord It’s been worded as a new PS Plus feature, so I fully expect we are going to get free PS5 games with PS plus from day one, we did so on PS4.

    • @Erroneus

All I see is “A new Playstation Plus Benefit for Playstation 5.”

Nothing there implies the collection will be made available on PS4.

    • They actually did say from the beginning that the Plus Collection will only be available to PS5 owners who subscribe to plus. The games will not be available as a collection on PS4. You can go back and look at the wording on the original post or rewatch that part of the PS5 event from September. I would not get my hopes up for them coming to PS4. They also said it will be a curated collection which implies that they may add to or change the games in the collection.

    • @TJ_Solo Ehm I agree, it’s for PS5 only. My comment, was on turniplord’s comment that we are not getting PS Plus games for PS5, which I think we are, as we did on PS4.

    • Basically PS plus Collection is a bundle of games for free for PS5 player (PS plus required)
its basically for new PS5 owners who missed out on PS4 generation

    • Oh if no one noticed in new terms and conditions you agreed to them putting the price up for plus and now if they give you 60 days notice so look forward to a price hike at new year

  • Will there be a PlayStation one two and three backwards compatibility in the future at all or at least add some games in those categories to your PlayStation store for the PS5?

    • You can play PS3 and PS2 games through PS Now but I doubt you’ll see anything more than that.

    • I’m curious since it’s not on the list of games not compatible. Will the PS2 games on PS4 run on PS5 without issue. I still haven’t platinum’d Dark Cloud 2 and would love to on PS5. Also if they do I hope they’ll up the res again to something near 4k atleast

    • Unlike Microsoft, Sony obviously has ZERO interest in our digital and physical investments on PS3 and Vita. If PS3 titles come to PS5, it will only be as “new” releases, meaning you will have to buy them all over again. This is a pathetic failure of Sony. Between this and Sony being the prime mover behind $70 for base price of AAA games, as a gamer I will game on PS5 for exclusives and for my PS4 library. That’s it.

    • I’m fairly certain any games that ran on PS4 and are not mentioned as incompatible, should work. They are “technically” PS4 games in the same way the Mega Drive collection is, even though that too runs using emulation.

    • From my understanding it is all ps4 games that have been patched to carry over zero has been said about ps3 and below outside stream from ps now as they are old defunct software that they don’t and won’t spend any amount of time to patch to read as ps4

    • @Tatanka2007 Microsoft are interested in your PS3 and Vita investments??? /s

How many times do you have to be told that PS3 playback on PS4, and I very much doubt PS5 either, is impossible to implement? Even the most powerful PCs at the moment with the best CPUs and GPUs money can buy, right now, have trouble brute force running PS3 games on emulators on PC.
Micofsot lied when Xbone was revealed and said 360 support was impossible, turned out it wasn’t but their reasoning behind the random crap games that are part of the meager 600 supported 360 games makes the service such a waste at times.
And why did they stop at only 30 Xbox original games, again, games on that list that NOBODY wanted.

As powerful as the PS5 is, it will still be tricky to emulate in any way the insane technical marvel that is the CELL processor. Did you know the CELL processor has more power than the processors that are in the PS4 an Xbone?

Now, one thing I will say it. What is stopping Sony from simply letting us play the 300 to 500 PS1 games they released digitally over the PS3’s life that the PSP and Vita were also able to play with no extra purchase required. PS1 emulation can be done in software so easily. I guess they just don’t want our money here? What are they possibly losing out on by NOT letting us buy these games on PS4/PS5, with millions more fans that have PlayStation consoles since PS3 came out???

  • Now this is a good blogpost, now can we know if PS5 will be freesync compatible? please?

  • Nice and thanks for the heads up, but since you mentioned UHD Blu-Ray Drive.. What & Which existing audio formats will be supported through PS5? Yes and appreciate your Email Invite and I pre-ordered my PS5 Disc console and your 3D audio headsets for a Day 1 (Nov 12th) delivery but you may want to consider sharing a much deeper dive for those that own very expensive Home Theater Setups. Thanks and look fwd to your upcoming info.

    • I am also interested.

    • You will find out on November 12? I am not sure how having any additional information today will assist you on the day you receive your console if you already have your super duper expensive audio set up.

    • Sony did post an article saying that the 3D audio will work with your current setup, without the headphones, in a future PS5 update, after release.

I’m interested to find out more. I also got the new 3D headphones myself, but will be cool to experience similar sounds through my already own sound bars, etc.

  • Will Remote Play from PS5 to Android be available at launch, with controller support?

  • All the ps4 games that have been digitally purchased in our library, when we log in with our PSN account on the ps5, will they be displayed there and available to play?

    • They will be displayed there but you’ll have to download them again unless you transfer them over.

    • Just need to download from the library or transfer them via Wi-Fi.

    • They literally specifically answered this question. Just read the article.

And it’s not being Rude. They specifically answered this very question. In the article

    • @ikickbullies… It’s not rude at all, it blows my mind that people don’t bother to read or listen to things, instead they jump to comments and ask a question that may never be answered.

    • @ikuckbullies @phantommenace84 No, it’s still rude. You could’ve answered the question in less characters than your actual rude comment. The article never actually said the words “PSN account” and you never know when English isn’t someone’s 1st language or if they just have a hard time comprehending how one person explains something.

  • Can we transfer PS4 saves via USB like from PS4 to PS4 ? I don’t have PS+ and the information on that is not very clear.

  • Will PS3 games streamed via PS Now work on PS5?

  • Great news, now launch your console in all the country , i am from india and we don’t even know the launch date and price of these consoles in our country and your social media team is not even giving any kind our information about this , as global corporations you should treat all your customers/Gamers equally.

Anyway can’t wait to get my hand on ps5, hope everything will change soon.

    • You may want to look into the reason why the PS5 launch has been delayed in India, before you start blaming Sony…

    • You should really go to Delhi and beat up the guy who is contesting ownership of the PS5 trademark. If he drops the contest, Sony will earn the trademark and be able to sell the PS5 in India. Until then, they can’t even market a PS5 as they don’t own the name.

    • The trademark shouldn’t be an issue, Playstation brand comes under “Well Known Trademarks” under the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, it’s quite baffling how this delhi guy got the trademark in the first place, Sony should have lawyers going through trademark journals to see if anyone has applied for trademarks which could potentially damage Sony’s name, the main problem is the lack of official communication from sony about this .
It could be shortage of parts for manufacturing or they wanted to server main markets first whatever the case there should be proper kind of communication.

    • @n_rana it was a huge oversight by Sony, which Is why, at least in Japan, they have filed trademarks for the next 5 iterations of Playstation.

As far as I understand from what I have read, it’s not likely the guy that contested the trademark will win it, but because he did, the people who make the final ruling over the dispute need to come to a decision before Sony can proceed. Now we will probably never really know what actually lead to this, but until they earn the trademark they will probably not release the PS5

  • Can I remote play PS5 via my PS Vita?

  • When are we finally going to be able to order the VR camera adapter?

  • I’m wondering those games that aren’t compatible are they just nti compatible and that’s it or is so y trying to find a way to make them compatible?

  • Is remote playing PS5 games via PSTV, Mac\PC, Android, and iOS apps possible?

    • PSTV is a hard no. They aren’t supporting the device anymore and you won’t be able to sync a DS5 (DualSense) to a PSTV. Android, iOS, PC, and Mac are very likely to get updates either next month or at a future date once the systems eco system has stablized.

    • The iOS and Mac remote play apps were updated yesterday and include a connection for PS5 in addition to PS4

  • How do we get the ps vr camera adapter?

  • So what about accounts? I may get a second PS5. Can I have my account on both like PS4? One primary.

  • I don’t mean to nitpick but what is the 1% of games in the ps4 library that aren’t compatible? Have you truly tested 100% of the library? If so, we should have a solid list of the 1%. Seems as though we as consumers are left in the dark to test these things and are the one’s left testing.

    • They provide a link right in the post that lists the 10 games that don’t work. Maybe try reading next time before heading straight to the comments.

    • @Mercenary09 just fyi he’s saying this because THE LINK IS NOT WORKIING. Since you’re replying to everyone’s comments like a fanboy, I thought you would see other people are saying it too.

    • @persona So letting people know about what they missed is being a fanboy now? Amazing.

    • I mean, the link worked for me so who knows why it isn’t working. Plus, mercenary hasn’t only replied in a positive manor, and it is true that there are a lot of people on here who obviously haven’t read the post with the questions they are asking.

  • Something i am yet to understand is, that if you buy a game for ps4 (that will also be sold as a ps5 game) and then put it in the ps5 later to play it on your new console, do you then get all the benefits, as if it was a ps5 game – faster loading etc.
Cause if so im just wondering why the same games are sold at different prices for ps4 and ps5 if you can just buy the cheaper one anyways?

Please let me know if any of know actually know this cause i have been wondering this since day 1

    • PS5 games that will have a PS4 version are made focused on the PS5 hardware capabilities so you can expect better graphics, frames and loading times compared to the PS4 versions.

    • So i will be able to play the ps4 game on the ps5, but i wont get the upgrade in graphics, frames etc?

    • Unless you are talking about a game, such as Miles Morales, that offers a free upgrade to the PS5 version, you will only be playing the PS4 version on the PS5 with the possible benefit of the game running better. Good news is that most games that are launching on both consoles are offering the free upgrade. Activision, as usual, are basically charging $10 extra for the PS4 version of COD that comes with the PS5 version. So in that case, you are paying for the upgrade

    • When you insert the PS4 disc into the PS5 go to the ‘Game hub’ and you will see an option to upgrade to the PS5 version if one is available. Some game upgrades will be free some will require a fee. Hope this helps.

  • Will I be able to download my game saves from the cloud, or if I transfered everything to an external HDD will plug and play or do I have to reformat it?

    • Did you read the post? You should try again… If you can’t, it says that you can get them from the cloud, or you can just keep them on your external without having to reformat.

  • When we will see the Ps5 UI

  • Will I have to add a credit or debit card to get digital PS4 games on PS5’s backwards compatibility or can I use regular PlayStation money?

    • I also don’t have a credit or debit card. It says it in the article that PS5 store will have PS4 games, so I imagine you can buy them with money from pre-paid PSN cards. It’s a PSN thing, so I think it will not change.

  • So just to be totally clear, if I backup all of my PS4 games and saves to an external HDD, I can plug that HDD directly into the PS5 and it will be automatically recognized and useable without the need to format? The games and saves will be immediately compatible and we can use the HDD to run games from? If so, that would save a TON of time.

    • Almost, you’ll need to copy games to an external HDD and copy saves to a separate USB, unless you have PS Plus in which case you can just get the saves from the cloud on PS5.

    • Sounds like they’re letting us do this with games (usually it locks the drive to that machine) – I have a full 8tb drive so this was great to hear. I have a lot of games installed!

However, you can’t move saves off the internal unless you’re backing them up. You can ‘backup’ but it’ll be a long process – the PS5 lets you wifi transfer the saves or connect an ethernet to both and transfer them that way – much faster.

    • It doesn’t say that. It says your saves and games will be able to transfer from PS4 to PS5 via WiFi, not by directly attaching a external drive full of PS4 games.

    • @burnsdg – literally says “If you’ve already stored PS4 games and game data in the external USB storage device connected to your PS4, you can bring them over to PS5 with that external USB storage device.”

  • Thanks for this information. You are able to transfer digital games from a PS4 external HDD to PS5 internal SSD but will the PS5 be able to play them off the external HDD in case I want to save SSD space?

    • The PS5 will be able to run PS4 games from an external HDD, but PS5 games must be stored on the internal SSD to run. Hope this helps.

  • What if you’re in, say, a Madden league on the 4… will you be able to continue on in that league on the 5?

    • It is up to the developers to decide if the saves will work on both, but I would guess the majority will be cross-platform.

  • Great post. Now, when will I be able to actually buy one of these? After that botched preorder I expected more to become available on Amazon but that never happened.

    • It actually did happen a few days later but they literally sold out in a minute. Amazon hasn’t been sending the in stock notification because they sell out too quickly

  • Sounds great the games that i will play on the ps5 that are ps4 games if they work is marvel spiderman ps4 disc, horizon zero dawn disc, dc universe online i hope, the infamous games from the ps4, and probably batman arkham knight.

    • They confirm right in the post that every game except the 10 listed in the link will work. Why is it so hard for some people to read.

  • Just a heads up, this link isn’t working.
    playstation.com/ps5-backwards-compatibility

  • “Can I stream PS4 games on PS5?”
I think you have a different definition of “streaming” than the community wants to have answered. What people want to know is will we be able to “stream” our PS4 games played on PS5 to Twitch and Youtube as we can currently from our PS4’s? Your answers about “SHARE” button functionality when we’re playing a PS4 game on PS5 leave it unclear how we’ll be able to live stream gameplay to Twitch, Youtube, etc.
Some clarification would be greatly appreciated by those of us who play PS4 games live on streaming services.

  • Where do we get the free PS Camera adaptor?

  • So I backed up my saves on a usb stick and sold my console, guess my saves are gone now? This bad if true, need clarification please.

  • Wargaming said world of warships doesn’t work on PS5 a while ago, so why is it not on the list?

  • Just a few more weeks!!

  • You’re forgetting 3 other generations of consoles. Any word on that?

  • I preordered a ps5 where can i order the adaptor for the PSVR/PS4 camera?

  • “You’ll need to use the PS Camera (for PS4), and the PS Camera adaptor (no purchase required), to use PS VR on PS5.”
Where does one get this PS Camera adapter? Will it ship with the PS5?

  • In this article you said that we can use the ps vr on ps5 but have to have an adapter for the ps4 camera to be able to play it on ps5 and there is no purchase necessary so how do I obtain this adapter ?

  • I’m kinda confused about the saving in the cloud…what would’ve happen if my PS Plus runs out and what will happen to my save files ?

    • they stay in the cloud until you renew ps plus… of course whern you havr savesd in teh cloud you can transfer them all to your ps4/5 hard druive that way if ps plus DOES run out you dont have to worry about it cause theyre not physically on your storage and not just the cloud

    • Your cloud saves and data stay on your PSN account in the “cloud” for some quite some time even if your Plus expires. I think it says how long in the PS Plus FAQ.

  • some further questions:

    1) Is the list of games that dont work a COMPLETE list or is that just the list out of the game you know about and have tested and there could still be some games you DONT know about and havent tested that dont work?

    2) When they say for best results use dualshock 4 when playing ps4 and psvr games on ps5 is that a suggestion or a requirement? i.e will i really notice any difference playing my psvr game son PS5 using the PS5 controller?

    3) are there plans to release updates to try to make the incompatible PS4 games work on PS5 in the future?

    4) Does share pay work on PS56 the same way it worked of Ps4? i.e can I play ps4games on my ps5 then shareplay them with a friend (who has ps4 or 5) so they can take over my controller an play or watch me play, and also can that feature happen for ps5 games too (of course obviously if you shareplay a ps5 game the person you shareplay with has to have a ps5 and not be on ps4), or is share play on PS5 restricted to ONLY being able to stream your ps4 games?

    • 1. they tested over 4,000 games. That’s all of them

      2. The DS doesn’t have a lightbar so the camera can’t track it for VR. Games that don’t use controller tracking will probably work but the majority won’t (that’s why they said that)

  • If you really care about the fans and their investment into the Playstation brand and its history, you NEED to bring us PS3, PS2, PSone and maybe even Portable Playstation games to PS5. Microsoft has done it, modders and community members have done and there should be no reason Sony can’t do it. Please, we beg you!

    • They HAVE done it, and they want the people who care to play that old stuff to pay for it. It’s called PS Now. Which IMO is perfectly fine, the people who want that can pay for it, so the rest of us who aren’t interested in funding continued support of old games don’t have to.

    • Im sorry, but the quality isn’t up to snuff. Audio, for example, is limited to stereo and that alone kills it for me number. 1 and number. 2 I have a vast collection of all generation of games and systems don’t last forever and finally 3rd is the importance of video game preservation. Not every game is going to receive the REMASTERED treatment leaving far too many classics and GEMS lost forever and that sucks.

    • @burnsdg PS Now is only available in a few countries and game libraries are limited. I’d rather pay for an app that would play PS2/3 games on the PS5

    • @gor1llap1mp, preach it. Many of us are disappointed. The investment in doing an emulator would certainly have been far, far less than the costs involved in the original PS3–when Sony did true 100% backwards compatibility better than MS ever has. I can understand the PS4/Pro not having the power to emulate the Cell, but PS5 certainly has that power.

@burnsdg, Why falsely compare PS Now’s subpar PS3 library to true backwards compatibility? [T]the rest of us…funding…old games.” That doesn’t even make sense.

    • Xbox has similarities in their architecture, but that is not the case with PlayStation

    • ms is not a good example to lead a gaming company by. let alone all the illegal charges they make to canceled customers or to them sheep who get a surprise bill.

  • Can we play PS4 games with the PS5 controller?

  • I know this is sort of addresed in the post, but I must ask: Will PSVR be able to utilize the boost mode in the same way as the flat PS4 games?

Also, will the boost mode (generally speaking) bring ps4 titles to the performance of a PS4 Pro, or higher. This question is specifically in regards to VR.

    • All PS4 games including VR will run at PS4 Pro spec at a minimum, if they have dynamic resolution they should also run at the games maximum resolution throughout.

  • I think it is insane that we cant use the ps5 controller to play PS4 titles.. .Insane

    • You can, it says for the best experience use a DS4 but that’s probably just covering themselves for any games that rely on the light bar.

    • You 100% can. You can’t use a DualShock4 to play PS5 games though.

    • “The DualSense™ wireless controller, DUALSHOCK™4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work on PS5 consoles with supported PS4 games. “

  • What about cloud saves, will they transfer over, why is there no talk or mention about this?

  • I’m not sure if PlayStation talked about it, but is there a confirmation on continuing features like game-sharing and share play functionality?

  • If I played a game with a disc on PS4, can I buy a digital version of the same game and transfer my save data from the disc version to the digital version on the PS5?

    • I’m guessing it will be the same as if you do it on PS4 (mixing disc game with digital save and vice versa). Sometimes there are issues, depending on the region of the disc vs. the digital version. I think issues are pretty rare though.
