Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and New Game+ out October 16

Version 1.1 brings new co-op multiplayer experience, quality of life updates, and more.

Thank you so much for your support of Ghost of Tsushima! We are so appreciative to all of you who have shared your Platinum Trophy screenshots, Photo Mode captures, fox petting GIFs and beautiful fan art with us, as well as all of your thoughts about the game. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and we’re excited to release a major update for Ghost of Tsushima on October 16, Version 1.1.

Version 1.1 is a free update for all Ghost of Tsushima players. This update brings the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a brand-new co-op multiplayer mode inspired by Japanese mythology, as well as exciting new updates and New Game+ for our single-player campaign! Here are all the details:

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and New Game+ out October 16

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends

As we announced in August, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is a brand new, online cooperative multiplayer experience that will be a free update for all Ghost of Tsushima owners. A classic element of some of our favorite samurai films is warriors standing together, ready to fight as a team. In Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you can fight side-by-side with your friends, which is such an important part of fulfilling that samurai fantasy in a whole new way. We’re so excited to hear from everyone who teams up with their friends and jumps in.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends features two-player story missions and four-player survival missions, as well as a Raid that we’ll release in the weeks following launch. After you’ve downloaded version 1.1 of Ghost of Tsushima, you can visit the PlayStation Store from your PS4 to download a free unlock for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which will allow you to play. Keep in mind that an internet connection and an active PlayStation Plus subscription will be required to play with other players.

Once you have version 1.1, you’ll notice a new character at various towns and locations in Tsushima… Gyozen the Storyteller! He’s heard the rumors about the Ghost of Tsushima, but he has a different perspective about what’s actually happening in his homeland. Gyozen is the author and gatekeeper of the stories you’ll find in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and when you talk to him, he’ll be happy to share one of his transportative stories about the “Ghosts.”

Speaking to Gyozen will give you access to the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends lobby, but you can also get there directly from the title menu or the pause menu… or by accepting a PSN invitation from a friend!

Classes

In Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you’ll be able to pick between one of four classes. Each one has their own unique advantages. When you start Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, after a short tutorial, you’ll choose which class you want to unlock first. As you rank up, you’ll unlock each of the remaining classes.

In addition to each starting with their own unique ability, each class can unlock an alternate ability as you progress, as well as earning class-specific Charms and ranged weapons.

While playing with friends, you can mix and match classes however you’d like, whether that’s a party of four all playing the same class, everyone playing as a different class, or any combination in between.

Samurai

Samurai players can run straight toward combat and stay there, sustaining their health while chopping enemies down left and right. When you’re overwhelmed, use the Hachiman’s Fury ultimate attack to slash through enemies in a flurry of strikes.

Hunter

As a Hunter, you can stand on the edge of combat and snipe enemies before they even see you. You can also use explosive arrows to slow down groups, and when the combat gets really fierce, the Eye of Uchitsune ultimate attack will unleash multiple arrows straight at your enemies’ heads.

Ronin

Ronin players can revive their entire team with the Breath of Izanami ultimate ability. You might play Ronin because you want to help your human friends… or you might do it because the Ronin class is also able to summon a Spirit Dog. (And yes, you can ABSOLUTELY pet your Spirit Dog!)

Assassin

If you prefer doing massive damage with a single attack, you’ll love the Assassin. The Shadow Strike ultimate attack will allow you to teleport across the battlefield and directly strike your enemies. If that’s not intimidating enough, wait until you see the terrifying masks the Assassin gets to wear!

Story Missions

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Story Missions are designed for two players, and take you through Gyozen’s stories about what’s really happening in Tsushima. When you unlock higher difficulties, you’ll face new encounters, tougher enemies, bonus objectives, and greater rewards.

Survival Missions

In Survival, you can team up with three other players to fight off waves of enemies while defending different locations in Tsushima. You and your team can activate blessings to help yourselves, like “ignite enemies” or “summon a Spirit Bear.” The longer you survive and the more bonus objectives you complete, the more rewards you’ll earn!

Raid

You’ll need all your skill, top-tier gear, and a great 4-player team to be able to survive in Iyo’s realm! The Raid is an epic three-part adventure that will require excellent teamwork and communication to overcome. It will be released in the weeks following the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

Other Features

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends also has a few features you’d expect from Ghost of Tsushima. Our robust Photo Mode is still present here (as long as your teammates opt in) and you’ll be able to show off all the new masks, armor, and emotes you’ve earned.

Legends is packed with new cosmetics, and they’re all unlocked through gameplay without any microtransactions. Looking cool is important, but Ghost of Tsushima: Legends gameplay progression really centers around the gear you’ve equipped and the techniques you’ve unlocked. You’ll be rewarded with increasingly rare and powerful gear as you take on greater challenges, and you’ll unlock new techniques as you gain experience with each class.

We’ve also added some new Trophies for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which will appear in a separate section of your Trophy list and do not count toward Ghost of Tsushima’s Platinum Trophy.

Ghost of Tsushima Single-Player Campaign Updates

In addition to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, version 1.1 will include new updates for Ghost of Tsushima’s single-player campaign based on your feedback.

New Game+

If you’ve already beaten Ghost of Tsushima, you’ll find the option to re-embark on Jin’s Journey in New Game+. You’ll start New Game+ from the release to the open world, shortly after Jin’s initial confrontation with the Khan. You’ll keep all of the Techniques, Gear, and Vanity items obtained in a previous playthrough, and difficulty will be increased to provide a new challenge (but you can still adjust it down in the menu).

You’ll also find yourself with a brand new New Game+ horse, which features a vibrant red mane and unique saddle. There are also new, extremely powerful Charms available that can help Jin unleash devastating attacks and may change the way you play. You’ll also be able to unlock an additional upgrade for your sword, bow, and armor.

We’ve also added some new Trophies for playing Ghost of Tsushima on New Game+, which will appear in a separate section of your Trophy list and do not count toward Ghost of Tsushima’s Platinum Trophy.

Ghost Flower Merchant

Exclusively in New Game+, you’ll be able to earn a new type of flower: the Ghost Flower. This new type of flower can only be earned in New Game+, and is accepted by a mysterious new merchant that you’ll find in Ariake. If you complete a Tale or activity and already have the reward, you’ll earn Ghost Flowers in its place, so even if you’ve completed JIn’s journey before, it’s still exciting to explore Tsushima once again to collect as many Ghost Flowers as you can.

You can exchange these flowers for new armor dyes and other vanity gear only found in New Game+, featuring much more elaborate designs than those found in your first playthrough.

The merchant will also offer an array of powerful new Charms intended to create new combat experiences, empower existing playstyles, and allow you to customize your experience for even greater challenges!

Other Features

Once you’ve installed version 1.1, you’ll now find the option to enable Armor Loadouts, which allow you to assign all Charms and vanity items to each armor set to quickly swap between loadouts to match your playstyle and roleplaying preferences.

You’ll also find that your total play time is now displayed when you select a saved game file to load, and new options have been added to Photo Mode.

These features will apply to your existing game, or to a New Game + playthrough.

Version 1.1 is absolutely packed with new content, and we hope everyone enjoys this new update! Thank you once again for all of your support since launch. Version 1.1 will be released on October 16, so whether you revisit Jin’s journey or grab some friends and try out Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, we can’t wait for you to play!

  • Love the game, and will most likely love the DLC. I was going to watch the video from the blog but it’s requiring me to enter my age but it’s pulling up a calendar. I am not going to go back 40 years manually just to watch the video. That would require me to press the previous month button 483 times. I guess I’ll go directly to YouTube to watch it. Please fix the age verification where I can just manually type in my age, or have three drop downs for the month date and year.

    Thanks

  • Thank you Sucker Punch for this gift and I hope you add PvP game modes in the next updates

  • Yeeees playtime!! Yay ma prayers have been heard…thank you SP for real THANK YOU!!

Thought Ghost would be like the nonsense of Spidey and not have playtime, seriously I don’t understand how devs make an open-world game without playtime…just please tell me the counter will be retroactive and recognize all the time I’ve already spent in the game.Really curious about how much hours I got on it.

Nice to see NG+ being added and how much effort went into it but y’all had to add trophies damn…look at GoW y’all should take notes.Don’t care about Legends and it’s messed up to see trophies added to it too, specially co-op trophies where you depend on others to get it…bet the raid will be annoying as hell.Oh well it’s not like I didn’t know new trophies were coming it’s just messed up to see online trophies being added to a game like Ghost.

Anyway again thank you very much for adding playtime and great job overall in the update.Ghost is the beast of 2020…3rd/4th best PS4 game.

    • The new trophies aren’t required for platinum so quit complaining that people that like multiplayer can also get trophies too

I could understand if they were required for plat but they aren’t

  • It’s about time where I’m nearly bored finding 6 Ronin that gather at night & mongols on the patrol… complete a new game save file with no armor no charm no upgrades run… learn combo moves from GBG tutorial… I ❤️ you Sucker Punch… 😘

  • I think it is time to get serious and start transparently communicating about PS5 upgrades or not. Especially for an awesome game as Ghost of Tsushima is. We have now 44 days till ps5 release in Europe and the lack of communication is getting me worried.

  • “New Game+ – and difficulty will be increased to provide a new challenge (but you can still adjust it down in the menu).”

Even if your last playthrough was on lethal, the hardest difficulty, it still goes up? That would be amazing.

  • Game of the year, this game already was let’s be honest, and now we have all this too and for free

  • Hate how these always get additional trophies that suddenly make your platinum process look incomplete ><
I don't want to be forced to do NG+ or anything else just to get back to 100%. -_-

  • Just finished the game a week ago and was wondering about if you would do multiplayer or and story expansion pack and I’m so hyped you did! This is gonna be fuego

  • WE NEED A SUCKER PUNCH’S DISCORD SERVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am so happy to read this and cant wait to get legends

  • i have a question for sucker punch “ghost of tsushima team”.
do u have any patch plan of “cut off body (Limb amputation)” function addition??
the games that well implemented cut off function like “for honor game, or witcher 3 game”
i and several friends wait for purchasing ghost of tsushima after adding more cut off body function

  • I think this is pretty cool for an update. Completely free with plenty of content. I’m still currently playing through the game and now I can’t wait until the 16th to download and keep adding to my experience. Thanks Sucker Punch. Ghost Of Tsushima has been one of my favorite games of the year and this just makes it even better.

  • is there an option to skip cutscenes/dialogue in NG+?

  • My only question is about the new game plus horse.. by now we know my horse will die in later missions, i was upset i couldn’t choose my black horse again at the mission coming to the end of the game because all the other horses were there including the malnourished one but not the black one. So if i get the new game plus horse should i not choose it at the beginning and wait until the end so i can keep it after i complete the game again?

  • Can the new game + be played countless times or just once, as it was with The Witcher 3?

  • I have been so excited about this update since the leaks came out and in Start no-one didn’t believe it for a game like this to get a multiplayer dlc. I so happy that i did, i can’t wait to start seeing the new things in the story. I’m ready to grind for the new stuff you in ghost of Tsushima Legends. Also do you have a specific time for every continent or the update will come up in the same time all around the world?

  • I was hoping you guys could add dead zone adjustment as well. Since my jin sakai constantly moves to the right due to stick drift.

  • Thank you so much I was thinking for some like this to happen for this game, so I appreciated, this game definitely made the year worth it, and hands down best Samurai game I’ve ever played.

  • Will there be in depth character creation for this multiplayer?

  • hey guys i am very excited bout the update toamrrow but i got a question

does any or can any one tell me what time tommarow the update will be rdy is it at midnight tonigh or will it be at a certain time

  • Ghost of Tsushima is an awesome game but it could still use some minor improvements and some new features. If you guys plan to make new updates in the future or remaster the game on PS5, here are a few of my ideas:

Minor quality of life additions and tweaks:
    1. Add more HUD options so we can completely remove interface elements from the screen (all tutorials, button propmpts, highlights, icons etc.). This should include customizing elements like sword trails, red and blue highlights when enemies attack as well as audio cues that indicate all this stuff (sounds that are part of the interface and not the game world itself). I think this should be a standard in games nowadays. I imagine it would be rather easy to implement and it would give players more control so they can customize how their game looks, how much info it dumps and how hard it is.
    2. Add weapon wheel so it’s easier and more convenient to change weapons and tools. Right now we have to take out bow to switch to other gadgets like bombs. It looks weird and it’s not very convenient. Weapon wheel would be much better.
    3. Let us customize weapons that Jin visibly carries. Right now not every armor shows bow on the back for example. I think we should be able to tweak how much of the gear is visible. I, for one, would like Jin to visibly carry both bows and the blowpipe on his back. In AC Origins Bayek could carry 2 bows at a time so it should not be a problem here as well. Also, bow should not just disappear from the back when we switch to bombs. There is no reason for it and it looks stupid. Players should be able to customize all that: 2 bows visible at the same time, one bow visible and it changes to the 2nd one when we swap, no bow visible on the back etc.
    4. Allow us to disable certain side activities so they don’t even spawn on the map. Especially pillars of honor and fox dens. Personally I think they are not very interesting and they distract from more engaging content. I wouldn’t mind skipping them entirely. It would be cool to be able to disable them so there are no icons on the map and those glowing trees, pillars and fox shrines just disappear from the world.
    5. Fix the camera glitch that happens when Jin enters Mongol tents and goes through sliding doors. Camera should also get closer to Jin when he’s in tight interiors. You could also give a few default camera distance options in the menu. Some people like the camera being further away from the character and some people like it close. I imagine this would not be hard to implement.
    6. Fix the glitch that makes the camera spin on its own during stealth takedowns.
    7. Let us change the camera during duels to a wide shot that doesn’t follow the enemy (like in this E3 presentation where Jin fought Lady Masako). It could be an option in the menu. Personally I think it looks better and I would love to play these duels in a more cinametic way.

    Animation improvements:
    1. Add animations for taking out bows and putting them back on Jin’s back. Right now the bow suddenly spawns in Jin’s hands. It’s very jarring and looks weird.
    2. Make arrows physical objects that actually pierce bodies of enemies and can hit other objects, for example pierce a tree or a wooden wall. Bow gameplay should also be more brutal. There should be blood and arrows that are visibly stuck in enemy bodies. Right now this aspect looks pretty weak compared to katana gameplay.
    3. Add those cool E3 animations for throwing grapple hook. It looked really good on that first presentation and in the final game grapple hook just instantly connects with the target. Jin doesn’t swing the rope and he doesn’t throw it. It doesn’t look good and the original E3 animation looked so much better. There should also be an option in the menu to toggle if the grapple hook is visible on Jin’s belt at all times.
    4. Fix weird enemy ragdolls after getting hit with heavy arrows. They look very artificial. Arrows should be deadly and impactful but bodies need to have more weight. They can’t go flying like in a cartoon.
    5. Add a few simple animations for people who like more realistic gameplay. Stuff like picking flowers, looting enemies and taking supplies should have their own short animations that can be enabled in the menu. People who like it simple and streamlined could opt out to keep everything how it is. Personally I think having to dismount horse and physically cut a flower would be way more engaging than autmatically looting everything from a horse with a simple press of a button. It would make looting a bit more than just walking around and pressing R2. A few simple animations here and there would make a big difference for me and a lot of other people who enjoy this sort of thing.
    6. You could add a few animations to connect Jin with the world more. Like allow us to sit on the ground so we can play flute or just enjoy the fire, let us sit on benches or lean agains railings.
    7. New combat moves would be great as well, especially if you ever remaster the game on PS5. A few more katana finishers, maybe new combo moves and the ability to shoot bow in slow motion while in air (like in AC Origins or Shadow or Mordor).

    Big new feature:
    1. I think this game is really beautiful and it just begs for a video editor. Something like the one in GTA V that allows us to record in-game world and then edit all the camera shots, slow motion and effects later so we can make unique cinematics. Imagine all the possibilities! This would encourage creative people and YouTubers to create unique Ghost of Tsushima content. I believe this would also increase the popularity of the game and made Sucker Punch more of a pioneer. I think video editor should be the new standard in AAA games just like the photo mode. GoT already has a pretty impressive photo mode so I believe developers would be able to turn it into a proper video editor. PS5 also should have no problem with this feature, especially if the user has additional drive to store the data.

  • 8am PST tomorrow! Can’t wait.

  • I have ghost of thusima and it says I do not have the game when I do on disk and I can not download legends help.

  • ok guys wth sucker punch why have you guys bugged the horse in new game plus!!!!! ?????????

i just started new game plus everything seem to be ok but as i was inputting the options i found bug with horse

when you start the regular game you get to choose what color horse you want and what you want to name it there is even differnt color horses base on with version of the game you bought if it is deluxe, regular etc…

and you get 3 name options technically 4 name options becuase after the horse dies at the end of act 2 beginning of act 3 you play till you get to the heart of the jito quest and then again it gives you the choice between what COLOR HORSE you want the and the 2 names you didnt pick at start of game plus 1 extra name meaning 4 names altogether

SO HERE ARE THE PROBLEMS SINCE I THOUGHT YOU GOT OT KEEP VANITY AND STUFF.

    (1) SO WHY IS IT NOW THAT I START NEWGAMEPLUS I ONLY GET 2 NAMES FOR THE HORSE
    (2) AND I AM STUCK WITH A DEFAULT BLACK HORSE

basiclly i was forced to name it crap name becuase i didnt have but two name choices
not to mention it doesnt matter what name you pick out of the two it is still a default black horse

why is this suker punch plz explain or fx thank you

  • sometime today people everyone playing this game it souldnt be hard to get a response on this topic

  • Ghost of tutshima is amazing especially the legends mode but they should add a 1v1 duel.it has so much potential to be better then the game and legend mode

  • I love the game. Definitely going down as one of my favorite games of all time.

Is there anyway we can get a simple compass added?
