Introducing PlayStation Classic, with 20 Pre-Loaded Games

Featuring Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms and 17 other legendary titles, the new mini-console launches December 3 at an MSRP of $99.99 (CAD$129.99).

PlayStation Classic

Almost 25 years ago, the original PlayStation was introduced to the world. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, it was the first home console in video game history to ship 100 million units worldwide, offering consumers a chance to play games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in their homes.

Today, we are excited to announce that we are bringing back the original PlayStation experience in a new miniaturized version – PlayStation Classic! The console will come pre-loaded with 20 classic titles, including fan-favorites such as Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms.

The mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, and it emulates the original’s look and feel by featuring similar controllers and packaging. Long-time fans will appreciate the nostalgia that comes with rediscovering the games they know and love, while gamers who might be new to the platform can enjoy the groundbreaking PlayStation console experience that started it all. All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format.

PlayStation Classic

Available for pre-order at select retailers across the US and CAN, each unit will also come with an HDMI cable to connect to their TV, a USB cable, and two controllers for local multiplayer within compatible titles. PlayStation Classic will be available for $99.99 USD (MSRP) / $129.99 CAN (MSRP) on December 3, 2018 – a historic date for all of us at PlayStation.

Visit PlayStation.com for more details on regional availability, and stay tuned to the Blog for the full lineup of titles coming to PlayStation Classic. There are more fan favorites, and we can’t wait to share more details in the coming months.

  • ps2 re-release when

  • Put Crash Team Racing, digimon rumble arena and pepsiman please!!!!

  • Not really seeing t he point of this blog as not able to respond to any comments directly. To the twot who made the complaint it does not come with analog controllers….well guess what….the original didn’t either hence no analog contrlers on the mini. To the idiot ranting about not having 25 year old games backward compatible on the PS4….were they on the PS3? Honestly if $149 sounds too much to fork out for then go buy the original gear from s Salvos for $10 like I did with my last one purchased then track down the game$$$ on ebay

    • Okay suddenly u can respond after leaving a comment urself apparently from what Injust didcobered so ignore my first point.

  • Is this your answer to handheld gaming? Sorry I had to…lol

I will buy this, looking forward to it.

How about PS1 games on PS4? And a new handheld system? I’d rather buy stuff on PS than Nintendo

  • AC adapter sold separately? Really, Sony? You’re going to go that cheap? You’re already putting a $100.00 price tag on something I can go to the local Game X-Change and get for $30.00, and that includes a game or two. Not worth it in my book, sorry chums.

  • How will saving gameplay work?

  • It would be awesome if the console could play real Playstation discs besides being able to play the preloaded ones. Because really, 20 games??

  • Crash team racing please

  • I really really really want Castvania Smyphony of the Night to be included. Also the game doesn’t need analog sticks. It would be perfect to have this game included for me. Please make it happen.

  • can you still use discs then?

  • Overpriced, obvious lack of appreciation by Sony for their consumers yet AGAIN! only 20 pre loaded games and a guarantee lawsuit for those who are caught adding more. Oh and when you buy this overpriced unit for Christmas make sure you purchase a 5v 1 amp AC adapter separately otherwise you’ll be using your phone charger to power up this “clear attempt to keep up with Nintendo”. Sony not worried about their new CEO? They should be.

20 games preloaded, no adapter, $60 +tax tops for unit. For something people can already have on their PC emulators.

Waste of money unless price is adjusted or game count increased along with adapter inclusion.

  • I’ll get excited when the full title list is released.

  • Does that open up?
Can I put my ps1 disc into it?
If not then the excitement is kinda dying off already.

  • *AC adaptor sold separately

I’m excited for this, but what AC adapter does it need? I need to supply my own? This really doesn’t make sense.

  • The ability to power the system on is sold separately. PlayStation would do something that stupid.

  • I might want this solely for the replica USB PS1 controllers. Hoping there’s some way to play some of these 3D games in a higher resolution as well.

  • Better remember to get you memory card And save it

  • at least sony didnt call it playstation mini.
thatd be even more too obvious.

  • SONY!!! This is awesome, here are some games YOU NEED TO INCLUDE!!! Please, for the love of gaming include, 2Extreme, Philosoma, Omega Boost and if Square will let you, Einhander. I imagine since the first three games listed are all Sony Studios titles you should be able too, unless there are music licnesing issues with Omega Boost and licensing issues with 2Xtreme. Otherwise, you NEED TO INCLUDE TWISTED METAL 2 and Arc the Lad as well!!! Looking forward to getting mine, have 2 per-ordered already, don’t let me down with the remaining 15 games!

  • Wild Theory:

PSX is Dec 1-2 and the Gear Store at it will have these two days early.

  • You’re going to have a lot of upset people who don’t know why their PlayStation Classic isn’t turning on, or keeps rebooting due to insignificant power from using their own USB wall adapter that came with their phone 5 years ago.

For $100, you can throw that in. Make sure everyone’s gaming experience is enjoyable.

  • I just hope while it comes with the original PlayStation controllers that it supports more controller for multitap (if there are games that offer that up), and that they have compatibility for other controllers (DualShock 1, PS1, USB).

Not having the analogs is nice for nostalgia, but when I jumped on board it definitely had analogs and I never looked back.

  • Castlevania: simphony of the night

  • Please please please put Tenchu stealth assassins on it!!

  • If ps2 classic ever comes out it better have multipayer and socom 2.

  • I hope digimon world 3 is one of the 20 games, that game was so good one of my favourites growing up

  • Am I the only one hoping for Legend of Dragoon? How about some love for Ape Escape? Tony Hawk Pro Skater?

  • No AC Adaptor wtf????

  • Way too expensive……should be 50$ max.

  • I understand the nostalgic draw (and following the wake of NES mini success), but I’d much rather have the ability to play (and choose) the older PS titles on the new console I spent $400 on! Give us classic titles to purchase digitally through PS4 instead of making us buy another piece of hardware, especially with no way to expand the library.

  • this looks awesome! Symphony of the Night needs to be on this or i won’t buy it. Suikoden 1 & 2 and Vagrant Story are also classics that should be on it.

  • Sounds cool, but I still have my original and most of those games already.

  • yes! yes! yes!

  • Please bring Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon and Future Cops!! These are the ones from my childhood…I used to play a lot!!

  • scam
    just a holiday cash grab.
why would it come with 2 controllers but no way to plug it in?
yea you could plug it in on the side of a tv with a usb port
    but not for no $100
a roku can do that and even that cost less

  • Please add the old Spider-Man’s on it if u haven’t
    Already

  • Was thinking about which games I hoped to be included and came to two conclusions…. First the timing of this release with Nintendo classic lone is so spot on, and two… With so many great games across multiple genres no wonder they haven’t released the full list yet, they probably couldn’t all agree on one yet. THPS2, Chrono Cross, GT2, MG Solid, Legend of Dragoon, Parappa the Rapper, Ape Escape, Reel fishing, ESPN Extreme Games, Suikoden 2, ace combat, syphon filter, spyro, crash bandicoot…. Thats when I realized whatever games are picked there will be some great ones left on the table.

  • Damn PS1. Skip to PS2 and do the EA big street series

  • These would be awesome

    Tony hawk
    Silent hill
    MGS
Final Fantasy VIII (with the chocobo mini game)
    Legend of dragoon
    Castlevania Symphony of the night
    Parasite eve
    Fear effect
    Syphon Filter
    Driver

  • my legendary games list:
    -wining eleven
    -bloody roar
    -tekken
    -supershot soccer
    -crash team racing
    -crash bandicoot
    -kamen rider ryuki
    -jackie chan
    -harvest moon
    -nascar rumble
    -xtreme
    -tony hawk
    -fishing game
-bakusou kyoudai let’s n go: eternal wing
-etc…. i hope this games support for high definition/ HD…

  • Raiden Project!

  • If it doesn’t include Twisted Metal 2, then I’m not interested. Twisted metal 2 is my most favorite game of all time and was one of the best games released for the PS1. Some of my best memories are from playing that game. Praying it makes the cut!

  • Soul Caliber and Intelligent Cube!

  • Brazil is the main market in Latin America and the only country that doesn’t have PS4 Pro spider man bundle, ps4 pro 500 million and PlayStation mini…
And the manager for our region is a brazilian…
    Bring Mark Stanley back!!!!

  • Include: SUB ZERO MYTHOLOGIES and CRASH BASH PLEASE

  • This is my biggest question about this

Can the USB-based playsation classic gamepads be used on other playstation consoles for use with my PSOne classics? If so then y’all definitely have a sale from me.

  • Only 20 games? What are the rest of the games?
Will there be the ability to put more games on it via Playstation Store?

  • Will it have Azure Dreams on it?

  • Sheesh. All these people asking if it can play their old games like they didnt read the blog post or know that neither the NES or SNES classics could play cartridges. And if those twenty games are all quality then who cares if it’s less then what comes with Nintendo’s system. The NES came with a bunch of throwaway games anyways. I swear, people will never stop complaining and be satisfied. The only thing that disappoints me is that you can’t even power it on out if the box. I feel like they didn’t include this because they included an extra controller.

  • Where can I pre-order this in Canada?
