Marvel’s Spider-Man Swings to PS4 September 7, Collector’s & Digital Deluxe Editions Detailed

First look at the game's final box art, Collector's and Digital Deluxe editions, and pre-order bonuses.

You all have been waiting for it for a long time – we’ve got emails, phone calls, tweets, Instagram posts, and impassioned pleas. You want to know when Marvel’s Spider-Man will finally be in your hands.

Everyone here at Insomniac Games is thrilled to announce that Marvel’s Spider-Man will launch on Friday, September 7, 2018 exclusively for the PlayStation 4 system. It’s been an incredible experience for us to spend the last few years working on this game. From getting to create our own unique universe and story for our favorite Super Hero, to working with our talented collaborators at PlayStation and Marvel Games, to developing relationships with the Spider-Man and Marvel fan communities (#SpideySquad represent!), it’s been an amazing journey thus far.

Marvel's Spider Man PS4 Box Art

Along with the release date, we get to show you the final box art for Marvel’s Spider-Man! Insomniac has a history of excellent game covers, from Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time to the bold Olly Moss Resistance 3 cover. We went with a pure red background and a striking image of the web-slinger.

Our more experienced Spidey in his brand new Advanced Suit can be seen confidently web-swinging against a bold red backdrop. To juxtapose the unique look of our Spider-Man, his pose takes inspiration from over 50 years of fan-favorite Spider-Man comic book art and artistry. Astute fans of the wall-crawler will see nods to the work of J. Scott Campbell, Mark Bagley, John Romita Sr., John Romita Jr., Joe Quesada and (of course) Steve Ditko, as well as many other iconic Spider-Man artists.

You’ll see this cover adorning the standard edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man when it is available at retail and digitally for US $59.99 / CDN $79.99 MSRP. While many of you have been asking us to show the cover for the game, many more have wondered: will there be digital deluxe and collector’s editions of the game? You betcha, True Believers — we’ve got both.

The Digital Deluxe edition of the game (US $79.99 / CDN $99.99 MSRP) will include a copy of the game as well as new story chapters with our post-launch DLC series – Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps. That’s right, we’ll be supporting the game post-launch and you’ll be getting three new chapters each with new missions, new villains and characters, and additional suits for Spider-Man. More details on that a bit later down the road. Buyers who pre-order the Digital Deluxe edition will also receive by mail a limited edition collectible pin (only available to residents of US and Canada) featuring Spider-Man as he appears on the cover art for the game.

Marvel's Spider Man Digital Deluxe Edition

Of course, for those collectors out there who want an incredible Spider-Man collectible alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man, we have just the edition for you. The Collector’s Edition (US $149.99 / CDN $199.99 MSRP, while supplies last) includes all of the digital content from the Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as a Steelbook case featuring the iconic white spider, Mini Artbook from Titan Books, and an awesome Marvel’s Spider-Man statue by Gentle Giant. Pay extra special attention to the statue though and you’ll notice something is obviously missing. We haven’t revealed the entire statue for the Collector’s Edition, just Spider-Man perched on top of something. What could that be? It’s too spoilery to show you now, but stay tuned!

Marvel's Spider Man Collector's Edition

That said – no matter where you buy it, or which edition you get, you have a chance to grab these pre-order items. Whether it’s a Spidey-Suit Pack featuring Spider-Punk, as well as a couple suits we will reveal this summer, the Spider-Drone gadget, a PSN avatar, an original PS4 theme designed by renowned comic book artist Adi Granov, or just some extra skill points to unlock faster web-swinging sooner – our pre-order bonus is the total package. Check out this video of Spider-Punk and its suit ability in action below.

That’s a lot of info – but I realize some of you have been dying to get your hands on new information about the game itself as we haven’t said much since Paris Games Week and PSX last year. Well, there are a ton more details in the cover story of the May issue of Game Informer. The GI crew came out and got to go hands-on with Marvel’s Spider-Man, talking to the dev team and bringing you the biggest look at the game yet. Plus we got famed Marvels and Amazing Spider-Man cover artist Alex Ross to create this “Amazing” cover painting for the magazine.

Game Informer cover: Marvel's Spider-Man

Game Informer will also be posting stories and interviews with members of the Insomniac Games team all month long, so keep an eye on their website for the latest.

That’s all for now – we can’t wait for you to get your hands on the game on September 7, 2018 exclusively for PlayStation 4. In the meantime, get your pre-orders in for Marvel’s Spider-Man at PlayStation Store or a friendly retailer online or near you. And for all the latest from Insomniac Games, be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. • Hello. I’m from Portugal so sometimes we have a hard time finding collector’s editions, even finding an online seller to ship them here. Can you provide a link or an online store that will have them? Really looking forward to the game.

    • Portugal will have it, I’m unsure which retailer there as it probably will be retailer exclusive, so please check in with PlayStation Portgual for the latest

  • Tell me something… Why isn’t the physical pin in the Collector’s Edition of #SpiderMan How is something physical in a Digital Deluxe and not a Collector’s Edition. It makes no sense!

Insomniac replied on Twitter saying it’s something Sony is doing in the US, God of War will be the first. But why not include somthing PHYSICAL in a Collector’s Edition. Shouldn’t the Collector’s Edition be the most complete version of all?!

    • Because different editions have different pre-order incentives. Also because you’re not entitled to anything in this world.

  • If you make a special edition that removes the statue and keep everything else in and price it at $80-$90 I will buy it Day 1. But until then I’m going with the standard edition. I have no interest in statues.

    • Agreed. The only reason I’m tempted to pre-order the collector’s edition is due to the steelbook. I have no interest in statues nor artbooks.

If they make a slightly cheaper steelbook edition, I will skip collector’s edition.

  • Pre-Ordering now so excited for Spider-Man especially that it was develop by isonmiac games , game looks so amazing

  • The cover looks clean and bold. I dig it.

  • For the past few years Sony has finally started to dub their games. Please, tell me this one is dubbed too. I’m talking about latin american spanish. I’m still kinda mad that there’s not a deluxe physical version, but if you can confirm that the game is dubbed, I’m not only preordering, but i’m also getting the collector’s edition. So, any news on that?

  • The Raft is a fictional prison facility for super-human criminals (predominantly supervillains) in the Marvel University. The box could be a prison cell.

  • Still no Collector’s Edition up.

  • decent bday present

  • Thanks for the wallpapers! Can’t wait to play this game, but September is going to be a killer on PS4! Spider-man, Dragon Quest XI and Tomb Raider. Wow.

  • Is the CE coming to Europe or is it US only?

  • Insomniac has made some of my favorite games during my Childhood during the PS2 era. I was really bummed I had to skip out on the PS3 ones cuz I never owned one, but not making the same mistake now that I have a PS4 and have bought their R&C 2016 game. This is also going to be my first collector’s edition of any game and glad it’ll be not only on Spider Man, but also from one of my favorite developers :)

  • When will we start to see unscripted gameplay and independent reviews?

  • Huge Marvel fan so this is a must have for me.

Are there any extra characters or suits in the game? Playable Spider-Gwen please.

  • Literally cannot wait for this! Last Spidey game I had was the Ultimate Spiderman and that was ages ago!
Really looking forward to the combat of this game, it looks sick!

  • Can you guys give us a demo to play please for those of us unsure about the game!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’ve been excited for this game for a while. I came here to watch the video and was already thinking that I can’t wait to pre-order. Then, I saw the ridiculous Spider punk. Now I’m not so sure about the pre-order and now a wait for a flash sale or not at all. If that is a sign of things that we also haven’t seen yet, then no thanks. Spider Punk is probably the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

  • Please please please give us the 2099 outfit that has always been and will be my fav spidey costume

  • Who’s decision was it to include Earth-138 Spider-Man? Give that person a raise. I will attempt to play the entire game with that skin (nothing against the original design for the game, I think it looks great as a hardcore Spider-Man fan).

  • I want that steel book but it’s a shame it’s only in a collectors edition.

    • I pre-ordered Marvel’s Spider-Man Special Edition (Physical Copy) which comes with Spider Sticker, Mini Artbook, Custom Steelbook, and of course a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4

    • WHERE did you preorder it from

  • I’ve just pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe version and got the Avatar but the Theme didn’t show up, so i was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not the theme is supposed to be available now or at a later date ?

  • ZombieKillingAcc

Coulda swore this game came out and flopped already. How long has it been in development? 4 years? No Man’s Sky lookout new game gunning for your spot.

  • ZombieKillingAcc

Also judging from the content it looks like I’ll be waiting for the whole game to come out in late 2019 aka the Game of The Year Edition and then hit the bargain bin before buying.

  • I’m so hyped for this game, I still remember the reveal on E3 with the Insomniac’s logo, it was an epic moment. Cant wait for Spider-Man, also Insomniac is on my top 5 of favorite gaming studios. Btw, I would love more Ratchet & Clank in the future. Don’t listen to the trolls, they don’t represent PS4 gamers. Cheers!

  • ShaunTheKnight91

the Collector’s edition looks awesome!!!! Can’t wait for this game!

  • You’re a bit racist Insomniac Games. Not only the european digital deluxe edition doesn’t receive the pin, but it’s also 95 f’ing $. What is wrong with you? Why are the Americans always privileged? And the standard edition is f’ing 80$… Stop making differences.

    • I don’t think it’s up to the developer in this case. I guess you should point your rage towards Sony. By the way since when does Europe use dollars? Standard edition is in my (Dutch) PS Store 69,99 and digital is 79,99.

As I pointed out earlier I think it’s crazy that something physical is included in a digital deluxe version but absent from a very expensive Collector’s Edition. Also the pin for US only, how weird is that…

    • I converted from RON (Romanian Lei) to US$ with the current exchange and the digital edition is 80$. God of war is 70$ digitally. And you are right, the physical version is also cheaper in my country, it’s 70$ in local stores. I don’t know why they are making this mistake. The costs for the digital version is much cheaper than the ones for the physical version.

    • Dude stop being so desne, isn’t like they decide how much will cost in every country, i live in Brazil and pay almost four times what they ask in the US. And you don’t see me coming here spit my rage and hate on the guys.

  • Been hyped for this since the first announcement when I placed my pre order last October!! Hope I still qualify for pre order bonuses? Have to agree with some others here about the slightly disappointing box art though, that plain red background just not doing it, sorry. Please release the steel book only version……

  • I’m beyond excited for this game! Even more so now we have a concrete date! Open up the pre-order on the PSN Store and I’ll gladly pre-order! Hopefully there’s a demo before hand, because I CANNOT wait for this game!

  • Wish there was a digital collectors edition. Since a physical pin comes with the deluxe, I sure the statue and art book can be mailed too

  • I think I’m going to be pretty occupied with Dragon Quest XI, but as soon as I Platinum that it’s on to this bad boy!

  • With RDR 2 coming out around that time, insomnia has a lot to prove

  • D.O.N.G EXPANDED

  • Brazil will receive that?

  • Finally that release date hu…this game is one of the 3 pre-orders I have and honestly I was hoping for it to be delayed to 2019 lol, don’t get me wrong I’m really excited to get ma hands on this baby but a lil more time with ma backlog wouldn’t hurt.

Oh well we don’t have a good Spidey game since Spider-Man 2 on PS1,needless to say that as a Spidey fan I was really excited for this one since its announcement and that E3 gameplay was insane to say the least. With the date in mind things change…can’t wait to play this baby.Although that cover could use more effort…a pure red background?…really?…that’s lame. And that punk outfit…even more lame than the cover.Oh well hope the other outfits make up for it…can’t wait for the game, hype train let’s go!!

  • Does anyone know if you pre-order one of the physical editions do you get the avatar and theme now or when you actually pick up the game?

    • I think the Avatar / Theme download code will either be on the receipt on in the packaging. You can ask the store before you complete your pre-order purchase how it is going to be.

  • D1P!!!!!

  • Said it when the forums were alive, and I’ll say it here.

    I hate “pre-order” content.

    I hate “post launch” content.

This is just jargonism for cut content from the game.

I’ll happily support the FULL game, but not content cut from the game to be sold separately.

GOTY version? Great, I’ll happily support it.

I will NOT pay full price for a game that is chopped up and sold separately.

Really, REALLY disappointed that Insomniac thinks it’s okay to gouge consumers by removing content from the game and charging extra for it.

There are plenty of other games worth my time that won’t do this.

    • If it’s anything like Sony’s other games, there will probably be a “Complete” edition available when the post-launch DLC drops.

  • Too bad there is no Edition with a Statue and a Beanie or Wallet etc..

  • I’m beyond pumped for this game!

  • I feel tempted to change my regular edition Pre-Order to the Collector’s Edition Pre-Order.

  • There should be a online multiplayer mode

  • Which retailers will be selling the collectors edition in Canada? The only retailer I see is EBGames and they are notorious for shady pre order practices and by the looks of it they are sold out as soon as the edition was announced.

  • I absolutely love the deceptively simple style of the cover art of the standard edition. It’s colorful, bold, and totally Spider-Man. I think a lot of fans were expecting an action shot of Spider-Man (which it still is) swinging through the city with skyscrapers rampant. That would have been too busy, and I think their goal was to have an eye-catching cover without any distractors. The coalescence of red and blue is very pleasing to the eyes. It’s reminiscent of a striking and clever comic book cover, one that conveys a lot of meaning in a single image. As the developers said, this story is about Spider-Man, and the cover art stays true to that.

  • Day #3 since announcement of Marvel Spiderman Collector’s edition and amazon usa still showing unavailable for pre order. This is frustrating.

  • Why isn’t Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps DLCs available with the Special Edition (Physical Copy)? & Why is the limited edition collectible pin only available to residents of US and Canada? Not fair! Make the pin available for everyone!

    • Because different editions have different pre-order incentives. Also because you’re not entitled to anything in this world.

  • Gamestop has really good pre-order incentives for Spider-Man. I’d go digital deluxe for the enamel pin but I’m already getting a Spidey pin with my Infinity War tickets pre-order.

  • When can I pre-order the collectors edition and where??

  • Anyone know when it will be up on Amazon? It still says currently unavailable.

  • I want to make sure. I preorder the collector edition. But it doesn’t say anything about the pin you get for preorder on the playstore. Does the physical copy get the pin at all?
