In July, we announced a release date for Gravity Rush 2 that we felt most appropriate for the title. Since then, though production is proceeding smoothly, the landscape for that release date has changed dramatically.
Gravity Rush 2 is the conclusion of Kat’s journey, so we want players to have enough time to dive deep into her story. In addition, as a lot of work went into online features that allow for asynchronous player interaction, we want as many people as possible playing the title at the same time. Thus, after careful deliberation, we have decided to change the release date. Gravity Rush 2 will now launch on January 20, 2017.
I would like to apologize to all those players anxiously awaiting Gravity Rush 2. After four years of development making a title we are very proud of, we want to release it at the very best time.
In exchange for the longer wait, we have decided to release the premium DLC planned for the title free of charge. This additional story will take place in the world of Gravity Rush 2 and we think fans will have a lot of fun playing through it.
As we move into the holiday season and the New Year, we have many more exciting things in store, including more information about the title and the special animated feature. Please keep an eye out for more on Gravity Rush 2, and thank you again for all your support.
Shame you didn’t delay it to add a Vita version.
Yeah, I understand they want it to be as good as possible. I just got a PS4 so I’m set.
Remote Play + PlayStation 4 = Playable on Vita.
If you think about it, unless a game does not support Remote Play, everything on PS4 is also on Vita.
Playstation 4 have 8GB of ram, vita is 512MB, asking for vita version is absurd as asking for playstation 3 version.
Remote Play is terrible and never a substitute for a native version.
Plenty of Japanese studios have made cross-platform games on Vita and PS4 … except Sony.
Sony did Helldivers. That’s cross-platform. The thing is, the Vita only has 12-15 million units sold. Sony can’t do big budget on the Vita. They did, but the sales didn’t go anywhere. Sony not making games was not the problem the Vita had, the problem was lack of children’s games.
They needed competitors to Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon. If you’re a parent you’re not buying the Walking Dead Bundle, or the Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified bundle, or the Borderlands 2 bundle for your 10 year old, and the 10 year old probably isn’t asking for that system, and the rest of the games on the shelf are like Soul Sacrifice, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Ninja Gaiden, all sorts of non kid friendly games.
THAT is what damaged the Vita. Lack of letters to Santa asking for a Vita.
No. I think what damaged the vita is the memory cards costing more per gram than gold. I talked to a guy yesterday that said he convinced his son to get a 3DS because it used SD cards.
Is it weird that I’m excited about a delay for a game I’m excited for (just look at my avatar)? One less game to congest the holiday season, as coming out 3 days after FFXV and 4 days before The Last Guardian wasn’t ideal. I’m happy I’ll be able to play FFXV day 1 now.
PSvita only releases low budget indie games now. Gravity Rush 2 looks like it cost quite a lot to make and is considered a AAA game. This will not be on Vita, or at least not the PS4 version. They could release a Bejewelled style puzzle game inspired by Gravity Rush 2 though.
Weird how people keep saying that only indies are coming to the Vita when we still have games from Japan like Attack on Titan, Dragon Quest Builder, and World of Final Fantasy. Such a shame Sony didn’t support it better as the system (and its fan base) really does not want to die.
Agreed. Such a shame.
