Hello, Sean Murray from Hello Games here, working extremely hard on our game, No Man’s Sky.
The game really has come together, and it’s such an incredible relief. As we sit an play it now, and as I watch playtesters every day, I can finally let myself get excited. We’re actually doing this.
However, as we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.
After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe August 10, and in the UK August 12.
We understand that this news is disappointing. Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right.
The universe of No Man’s Sky is incredibly vast. More than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.
And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.
To the loyal community who’s stuck by our side since the unveiling of No Man’s Sky years ago, we hope you’ll accept our sincere apology and I am humbly asking that you’ll still look forward to exploring our universe despite the slight delay.
Thank you so much,
Sean
I’m genuinely taken aback at some of the comments regarding this delay. Here you have a small team, working on one of the most ambitious games to date. This is a career defining project for these guys. How can you expect anyone to be so committed to something over a long period of time and then decide to release it despite knowing that it wont be absolutely 100%?
Say the decision was taken to release on time anyway? Is that the sort of team you’d want making the games that we spend so much of our hard earned money on? I applaud Hello Games for demonstrating this level of scrutiny and this makes me even more likely to buy on day one, knowing that these guys are going to give me the very best product they possibly can for my money.
I’m sure all of the negative posters will find a way to cope for another 2 months without No Man’s Sky. After all Its not Hello Games job to find ways to enrich your lives. They just make software. If the absence of this makes you feel so frustrated and empty then I’d say it’s time for a bit of reflection.
Again, well done to Sean and the team for taking what must have been a gut wrenching decision, keeping us informed and showing the level of care to your craft that others could learn a lot from
Very good.
However, what excuse for the fact that – once again – the UK gets two fingers. How about a unified release for once, after all your pontification?
Totally agree. Last to get this game, from a UK developer! I don’t mind waiting a few extra months if it needs some tweaking. It’s only a game, not a liver transplant. And no issues with companies taking into account timezones when releasing a game. That’s common sense. But come on. 3 days later?
I agree, that aspect is as dissapointing as it is predictable. I’d be surprised if it was a decision taken by Hello Games however and comments in this thread are to be directed towards them surely?
@Nakatsu_Hime.
Blame Sony for that. They make those decisions not the software companies. :)
