Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness Hits PS4, PS Vita on September 13

History and Story

For those who may not know much about Psycho-Pass, allow me to share with you a brief history of this highly recommended series.

Psycho-Pass originally began as an anime television series airing in Japan in 2014. The anime received critical praise and quickly made its way to the West, growing popular within the anime community. Written by Gen Urobuchi — best known for his dark style and unforgiving plot twists — Psycho-Pass tells a dystopian sci-fi tale for the ages.

In 2113, the government in this society has advanced technological developments that allow one’s mental state and disposition to be quantified and profiled. In other words, with only the mere “intent” of behaving in a criminal manner, your mental state would be profiled as such in your “Psycho-Pass,” resulting in potential imprisonment or even death. This system is the government’s omniscient eyes of justice.

The Psycho-Pass is broken into two main components. One of the components is the Hue, which is a visual representation that conveys a person’s stress level. The other is a Crime Coefficient, a numerical value representing a person’s criminal capacity. This numerical value determines whether an individual requires enforcement by the detectives of the Public Safety Bureau.

The Game

Developed by MAGES, creators of the well-received “Science Adventure” series (Chaos:Head, Steins;Gate, Robotic;Notes), Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness takes place during the timespan of the first season of the anime series and adds backstory and world building to the overall story, as well as in-depth storylines to each of the newly introduced characters.

You choose between two new playable characters: Nadeshiko Kugatachi, a calm and serious Inspector whose memories were wiped away, or Takuma Tsurugi, a hot-headed Enforcer who is searching for his missing childhood friend. As you proceed through the game you are given different cases and must decide on the best course of action for each given situation. Some decisions may lead you towards the right path, and some may lead you closer to… something else.

Be warned: every choice you make has its own repercussions and could end the game sooner than expected.

Fully voiced by the original Japanese anime voice actors, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness comes with new characters, new plotlines, and all of your favorites from season 1 of the anime series. It’s truly a game you can immerse yourself into.

Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will be available not only on PlayStation Store and at retail as a standard PS4 and PS Vita title, but also as a limited edition! For more information about the game and limited edition, check out our official website.

Thank you all and please look forward to Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness this September for PS4 and Vita!

  • Yes! Thank you so much! Keep this games coming! Will see if I can get the limited edition! Love you! <3.

  • CAN’T WAIT !!

  • What the heck they added two new characters if the game suppose to be base from Season 1?

    • They probably added the new characters to give us someone to play as without having to be bound by the plot of the show.

I assume they based it in season 1 because of when it was being developed.

    • Yes, there are two new playable characters, and one new “mysterious” character as well. The game takes place during Season 1 of the anime series, but the game has its own storyline within it =)

  • Will this have PlayStation TV support?

  • Yay thanks for this.

Just reminded me I still need to watch season 2.

  • Will it have a platinum trophy?

    • You know you’ve could have looked up various trophy sites and see that it does, same with its JP release back then. In short…Yes. At least both versions are stackable, lol. X3

  • Yay, a VN for PS4! I will pre-order when available.

Sometimes I need a break from killing and dying in RPGs so VNs are a great change of pace.

  • Pretty awesome that you guys are finally selling your awesome collector’s editions outside of your online store. Love NIS, but I gotta take advantage of my Amazon Prime membership.

Pretty psyched for this, although I know nothing about this game other than that it’s a visual novel. I own every visual novel that has been released in the West on the Vita, and I think not knowing anything about this game will make me enjoy it even more!

  • (≧∇≦)

  • Sweet! Can’t wait to pick it up on Vita

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • Yay! Since it was first announced, I’ve been constantly searching for it on Amazon to be available. To my suprise, you included the limited edition to be available outside the nis store. Thank you. Finally a vn game for PS4. I will definitely watch the anime before the game comes out.

  • Will there be a way for Canadians to order the Limited Edition? NISA shipping can be expensive..

  • Just pre-ordered the limited edition for VITA on Amazon!

  • I am so happy! I love Psycho Pass with a passion, I can’t wait to play this game! My day has been made.

  • Thank you for localizing more VNs for the Vita! I will, probably, pre-order the limited edition, yet I have two questions: Firstly, does the game have a self-contained and complete story, or is it a companion to the anime (I have not watched the anime, nor am I planning to, and this sentence concerns me “adds backstory and world building to the overall story”). And secondly, is the game a collection of loosely related episodes, or does it provide a overarching plot that uses an episodic format? Thank you for your attention.

  • does the game support cross-save between PS4 and PS Vita?

  • Thanks NIS.

Localized Visual Novel is always nice.

  • I love Psycho-pass! It’s good to have a game :D

  • So happy to finally get a release date! I love the psycho Pass anime, I can’t wait to get my hands on the game!

  • kinda sucks that the existence of dubbed VN are rare. Only two exist the danganronpa games and the games after 999. Ill be skipping the game. I own and enjoyed season 1,but I saw it in english.

  • So just pre ordered the vita version. Wondering If the limited stuff (book, etc) is the same size between the ps4 version and vita version?

Anyways very excited this is getting localized. Wasn’t excited about trying to translate this one. Thanks!

  • Any Ling or EGOIST in this?

  • Already pre ordered the collectors edition on amazon. I can’t wait to play this. I loved the anime.

  • Gonna be picking up copies on both Vita and PS4. Really excited for this I loved the anime, loved the movie and I’m really happy its the team from the Science Adventure series. Must-Buy day now limited editions. Actually I preordered them before I finished typing this. Can’t wait.

  • Sweet. I was going to get this on Xbox One when it came but the west. But it’s coming on everything but Xbox One (PS4/VITA/PC). So I guess I’ll have to look at the PS4 version.

  • Great to see a solid looking title coming to Vita. Long live Vita.

  • Woah! This game looks awesome! Thank you for bringing a PS Vita retail version too!

  • Awesome news! I just pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition for the Vita on Amazon. I decided not to get the PS4 version since not all great games need the horsepower of the PS4. I’ll be playing it via the PSTV anyway. :)

  • NIS America how about releasing an english dubbed version of the game for us dubbed fans please

  • I was *this* close to importing the original game, but now I’m glad I waited! Thank you for localising this! Super excited!

  • So will the text of this game be translated to English?
