PlayStation 3.50 System Software Update Out Tomorrow

Our next major system software update for PS4, version 3.50 (codenamed MUSASHI), is out tomorrow!

While we outlined some of the features last month before our beta program started, we wanted to give a more detailed look at the update and share some new info. We’re making it easier to play together with friends, adding the ability to appear offline, and more.

New Social Features

Appear Offline

On your Profile tab, we’ve added a new option called ‘Online Status.’ From here, you can choose to ‘Appear Offline.’ This could be useful if you want to play games or watch movies without your friends knowing you’re online. You can designate if you would like to appear offline when you log-in or at any time from your Profile, or by holding down the PS Button on DualShock 4 to bring up the Quick Menu.

Friend Online Notification

Now you can choose to get notified when your friends come online. To receive notifications, select a player on your friends list, press Options, and select ‘Notify When Online.’

User Scheduled Event

On the Events tab, we’re adding the ability to schedule gameplay sessions with your friends. Just select ‘Create Event,’ and you’ll be able to make an invitation for an upcoming gameplay session. Choose the day, time, game, and send it off to your friends. When your event starts, users who registered will automatically be added to a party so you can start playing right away.

You can also share an event to a group, or a community that you’re a member of. Once shared, the event will be sent as a message, or posted to a community wall, and members can register from there

Play Together

This feature allows all members of a Party to see what each person is playing so that you can easily join a friend’s game, or start a new game together.

Other New System Features

Remote Play (PC/Mac)

With this update, we’re expanding PS4’s Remote Play capabilities to work with Windows PC and Mac.
Remote Play on PC / Mac is compatible with the following system software:

Windows 8.1
Windows 10 or later
OS X 10.10
OS X 10.11

You’ll be able to select from the following resolution and frame rate options, depending on your Internet bandwidth.

Resolution options: 360p, 540p, 720p (Default: 540p)
Frame rate : Standard (30fps), High (60fps) (Default: Standard)

You can use one DualShock 4 as the controller for Remote Play, which needs to be connected to your PC / Mac via a USB cable.

After the system software update launches, you’ll be able to download the Remote Play Installer here.

Along with PS4’s 3.50 system software update, PlayStation App version 3.50 is out tomorrow as well. The main new features of this update are as follows:

User Scheduled Event
- Users can schedule gameplay sessions with friends

Dailymotion has been added to Live from PlayStation
Other players’ shared activities appear in your activities

That’s a look at some of the big additions in this update. Of course, there are lots of other refinements and improvements to the system software overall.

Help please! The Remote Play on PC is continually force closing as soon as it starts up! I am on a Samsung ATIV tab model XE500T. Main specs are Intel Atom Processor 1.8 ghz and 2gb of RAM.

  Hey, I had the same problem, still having that problem unless I use my friends login he created on my PS4.
  His login isn’t linked to a PSN account which is about the only difference I can think of.
  
  Doesn’t really help as I’m still unable to play games online?
  
  So frustrating as there isn’t any direct support with PS4? Just a million comments to trawl through in the hope someone has the same problem and someone else has offered the solution….
  
  Test logging in as a different user (Create one if you haven’t got a guest login).
  Let me know if you get anywhere.
  
  Maybe we can figure it out together?

Hi. I’ve updated the system today and now the microphone on my headphones no longer works with my ps4. Before no problems and now not a chance. I’ve paid £300 for my headphones and have been enjoying using them for months now and communication with fellow players was absolutely fine. To go back now to a single ear piece is just soul destroying. Can hear fine through the phones but cannot talk through the microphone at all. Very disappointing seeing as how I’ve spent lots of money.

You all are some lucky SOBs. After the update every game I try and play freezes, then crashes. I’ve deleted them, reinstalled the games. I rebuild database, still doesn’t work. I refreshed my licenses, nothing. So now I’m sitting here for 2 hours now initializing my PS4. This probably won’t work either. And of course when you call Sony they’ll have me do all this again. Great update Sony! Let me box this PS4 up and have you fix it while charging me 150. Nice!

This is a great update, but not to implement house network when most users have speed 1gbit/s, where we could get 1080p without any problems is just beyond any logic. I would understand if you gave home remote and no internet remote but this way arround is just not making any sense. :) Especially beacuse PlayStation TV can’t give 1080p !
I saw someone wrote it needs internet to connect to PS ID, but with PlayStation VITA you don’t need to be connected to internet and still you can play remote.
Again, GREAT feature with internet remote but add something that you already have with PS Vita.

Love the 3.50 update. Although I tried to play a blue ray DVD in my PS4 and watch it on my MAC book pro with no luck. I’m guessing this update doesn’t support this action?

The update is great but ever since the update though, my clips from the Share button has not been saving the entire thing. I go to record the start of a match and when the match is over i save the clip and sometimes it only saves the last 55 seconds of it when it should be 5-10 mins. I don’t understand what is going on or how to fix it

  Having the same issue recording video clips! It is infuriating at the moment i want to make a walkthrough video for a contract on hitman but it only records a random minute or so toward the end of what should have been a 15 minute clip. Please sony fix this! I dont need remote play!

  May have found a fix for the recording gameplay issues. I deleted everything in my capture gallery then went to settings scroll all the way to bottom select initialization and restore default settings. This will then restart the system and now is working fine for me. Hope this message finds you and anyone else whose share button recording went haywire after the update!

There is still the odd issue of keyboard input missing from remote play in general. The vita has a full touchscreen, which could be used for a semitransparent overlay keyboard. The pc/mac remote play assumes you have a controller connected, and you have access to a full keyboard by default! how could they miss this?

Is remote play locked for some regions? After several tries the software wasn’t able to find my PS4, not even using the register manually option, both the PC (Windows10) and the PS4 are conected to a LAN through a net cable. After the software finished the search shows this message: An error has ocurred. (0x88010789)

i think this update is bad ass u can hook up your ps4 on laptop wile the kids or wife watches tv thats awesome and screw the key board options whats better than playing with a ps4 controller no lag on a pc / mac about time sony step up i already try it and its so simple download log in connect play the best !!!!!

Add the ‘players met’ feature for every game!

It’s insane that you can’t find people that you just played / played with.

For community based games this is key to a better experience.

Where is the support for people with problems trying to use the new remote play feature??

I couldn’t get it to work, every time it shows the PS4 screen on my laptop screen I couldn’t get it to move?
Until I press the PS4 button. HOWEVER, when I select my login it opens the dashboard but freezes and then crashes.

I reduced the frame rate and resolution but still no joy.

UNTIL for some reason I chose my friends login (Not linked to a PSN account) and it works perfectly??

I can’t find any support or other people with this problem.
If you can help, I would appreciate it.

At the moment I just see a bunch of pointless comments from a lot of people with too much time on their hands!

Thank you so much for including an ‘appear offline’ ability in this update! You have no idea how long I’ve been hoping for this, and voicing my support on the PlayStation Blog Share site. This will be a lifesaver for me in the coming years — truly appreciate it!

Does anyone know of a fix for the issue with the share button recording gameplay? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since the update my ps4 wont record gameplay properly i have it set to record 15 minutes and am only getting random chunks from 40 seconds to 3 minutes saved and usually toward the end of the clip. I have tried using the double tap to start recording and letting the time pass and after 15 minutes it says video clip saved but only saves the final little bit. Also tried not using the double tap and same problem. It is acting very strange and is frustrating since the update.

Since this update my Vita can’t start up my PlayStation for remote play and it ha LOADS of trouble connecting to it. I can just about do it if it’s turned on and the games already started. And then it only works for about 5 minutes – slowly deteriorates and cuts me off.

Can someone please explain why Sony decided to only support Windows 8 and 10 given that the original remote play software announced at launch supported Windows 7? Please don’t tell me that this isn’t an agreement with MS where they opened up to cross play and in return they got this huge incentive for us to upgrade to Windows 10?
Please Sony make this right. I’ve been a loyal PS owner since the begging and would like to think that your brand is better than that.

  That will require Microsoft to launch a update for Windows 7(Driver update) and just like all company’s they not going do that because that will most likely bring bugs and etc. Which will require more updates also Microsoft only cares about W8.1 and 10. (More so to 10)

I can’t seem to get Remote Play to work for the life of me. I have a connection of over 50MBPS and it constantly tells me my connection is to slow. Once in a while it does connect for all of 2 seconds before it kicks me out and tells me that my connection is too slow.

I simply don’t get it.

Give me bluetooth headset support and I am good. I can live w/o remote play after this issue…not to mention that it’s been kicking me out of games and giving me a blue screen out of nowhere since the update.

According to the majority of the comments, theirs is what the people want.

Being able to hide application on the main homepage/dashboard
Custom Folders
Outputting all audio to speakers and headset
Customizable PSN user name
Offline Tropy sync
External HDD usage
Increase the number of users in Party Chat

Thanks Sony you guys are doing an awesome job and PlayStation is great. Can’t wait to see what comes in the future!

I love the remote play program you guys made, but im a bit upset about something, and it is not being compatible with windows 7, I can use it on my main laptop, but that one is for home use only since it has a desktop gpu, the only reason it has windows 10 is because it came with it, my mobility laptop is the one I would use that feature with, and it uses windows 7, which TBH I’m not gonna upgrade, actually I’m thinking on buying windows 7 for my main laptop since that OS is buggy ASF, a lot of the times my graphics card won’t load the drivers sometimes the games on pc will crash out of nowhere, the search funcion doesn’t work properly, and the fingerprint reader works only whenever it wants to, that’s just the tip of the iceberg regarding bugs on windows 10, but that’s what I can think of now, if you don’t believe about the poor quality of this OS you can even look for in youtube, some major youtubers have this kind of complaints too, look for Linus and The TEK
it’s a shame this great feature, which has lower latency compared to the xbox is locked only for those OS which are the worst 2 from microsoft in the last 10 years

I don’t care about the pc/Mac remote play. I am more concerned with the app update. I updated before, I was forced to use stupid Google plus to reply to messages. I was also forced to give the app permission to make calls, for what reason? I downgraded the app. It was working fine until the latest update.i received a message, went to look, the app said MUST UPDATE! I will not update, I am deleting the app instead.

Personally, I don’t care about Live from Playstation and Dailymotion just adds junk to an already bloated app. The reason I hate Live from Playstation is every streamer begging for donations, get real and get a job. Stupid kids throwing away their parent’s money to other lazy kids.

Now about the store on the app. If u want to buy a game from the store, I will just use the browser. Oh wait! The app did the same thing. I don’t know why Sony makes everything good turn redundant and stupid. The Playstation TV system is a very good example. I love using it, but Sony doesn’t care to support it the way it should. Don’t get me started on the weak lineup of games given to you as part of the Playstation Plus subscription. Nothing but junk has been given out for months.
