As we look forward to the New Year, we’re excited to share our January 2016 PlayStation Plus lineup with everyone. This month our PS4 games pay homage to a couple classic, fan-favorite titles, while updating the gameplay and graphics to PS4!

Hardware: Rivals makes its exclusive debut on PlayStation Plus. Get behind the wheel of a powerful tank or mobile attack jeep in this arcade-style, vehicle combat game. Inspired by the PS2 classic Hardware: Online Arena, Hardware: Rivals lets you challenge your friends or enter the online multiplayer arena on your own and experience epic vehicular mayhem with multiple maps, game modes, and special events.

If you need a breather from all the vehicle-on-vehicle combat, you can always turn to the twisted Mexican folklore of Grim Fandango Remastered. As Manny Calavera, travel agent for the Department of Death, you’ll guide poor souls to their eternal rest. Crime. Skeletons. Romance. You’ll experience it all in this update to the beloved adventure game.

These PS4 games are free for PlayStation Plus members starting on the first Tuesday of January, and you can find the full list of PlayStation Plus games below.

    Wow this month was met and this one is lame how about we get some normal games for once I didn’t see an amazing game for ages dang it Sony even Xbox are doing better geez if it wasn’t for the mp we all wouldn’t be on plus, because Sony wants to milk us out of money….

    I don’t think January’s games look bad, but they could be better.
    What I’d like to see is some more rpg’s or jrpg’s on the list.
    Most of the rpg’s we get are games that I’ve already played.
    Dragon Age Origins is old af, lol. 2009.

    i am tired of getting games i already own.there should be a way to pick other games that you don’t own from playstation plus.the past six months i’ve had 2 to 4 games i already own on each month.

    I love how everything that isn’t a $60, brand new, AAA title is “trash indie” to some people. Please, I beg you, go back to the Xbone and leave people with taste alone.

    I pay for Psplus just for the games we get each month and the discount in store and just wanted to say I have never been disappointed. Every month I have enjoyed at least one of the games and since I basically only pay a little over $4 a month I easily make that up in discounts off games I purchase. I love the exclusives on the ps4 and haven’t had this much fun gaming since the ps2 generation.

    Saw all the hate on here and just wanted to say that not everyone is unhappy. Thank you.

    Are you freaking kidding me? I just bought Grim Fandango and haven’t played it yet. This is kind of dissapointment to see this list. Also not sure about the Hardware game.

    Gah, another awful lineup for me personally. Im not a fan of the indie type stuff they keep dropping for PS4 users. I understand there isn’t a whole lot that could be used on PS4 yet but still. Drop us some Dark Souls SOTFS, im sure it’d get some people into the series.
    Final Fantasy 7 would have been a great pick too.
    Hell, you could have dropped that underknown but decent Primal Carnage game on list. On PC it was somewhat popular but with a very unknown PS4 release not many people will even go for it i wager.

    I don’t even remember the last time I downloaded a game from the PS Plus lineup. The only thing keeping me with Plus is the fact that it’s required to play online

      riiight, and that’s exactly what it’s turned into…a $50 dollar money grab per year for us to play online.
      because the games are garbage at this point.

    this is sad I just paid for PlayStation Plus and next month’s games are crap in about done with Sony I have always been a Sony person but now I’m getting ready to just move to Microsoft. This is sad Sony really. Microsoft is now giving not 2 not 3 but 4 free games a month and there games they give are a year old not 5 years I’m about done I’m selling my PlayStation and other stuff just to transfer to Microsoft…. Sony you can message me back and I’ll give you guys a war full….if you want to keep me as a customer bring out better games for free…

    I understand the complaining but why do people defend Sony? I get some of the bashing is undeserved, but even if you are completely content why not just keep it to yourself? The people that are complaining now might just have their voices heard and in turn improve the service. It seems to be the overwhelming majority that have something negative to say so let em speak. In general once you settle for something then that’s it, you’ve hit a ceiling. The only way I would ever defend a multi million dollar industry is if I was getting some of those millions not contributing to the millions of dollars. It’s not like Sony is going to retrogress out of spite for the complainers, I get it though no one likes a complainer but stop trying to justify the disappointment for others it’s more annoying to complain about complainers, and I would know as I’m complaining about the complainers that complain about the complainers and it annoys me. Ya dig. Happy new year!

    The PS3 titles at this point would be nice… if they were BC on PS4. It would have been nice to see, after the backlash when it was announced the PS2 emulation would be pay per title, that if you just put an unannounced PS2 title out for free.

    You know… “here, take this… we listened and it was maybe not the best thing”. It would have been awesome to see you listen to customers for the first time since June of 2013.

    Also, as a self-respecting gamer and consumer the fact that you paid Tim Schaefer even more money for an old game to fund his weird rants is kind of crazy. I can just imagine the low price you got him to sign on if he is once again begging for money on the Internet to fund his next game.

    Very disappointed customer.

    Sony, your customers and consumers have literally brought you to the top of this generations console war. Xbox is all but waving a white flag, and Nintendo has been belly up for some time, and everyone knows it. You have sold 25 million units worldwide. At $400 per console you have made billions of dollars in a relatively small timeframe. Try to show some appreciation to the people that put you on top and throw us a freaking AAA PS4 game every once in a while. And not just a game that Xbox had the month before on GWG. I bought a PS4 for its amazing library of exclusive content, and superior hardware. I cannot take advantage of these things with Grim Fandango, and Grow Home. You can, and should, do better.

    Hardware Rivals was a fun game when the beta was released I played and had loads of fun. It seems a lot of people complain about the games but they aren’t even that bad. Especially Indie Games everyone is always trashing on those for just being indie games. Mind you some of the games this year were kind of bad but not all of them I had fun playing a good portion of them.

    So, let’s back track. I didnt purchase a ps4 to play indie games. I’m not saying anything is wrong with indie games, however that wasnt why i bought a ps4. I had the original playstation, ps2, ps3, and now ps4.

    Ya wanna go back further..i had an atari 2600, comodore vic20, etc etc.

    I’ve been playing video games for a little while. Each new generation brought new hardware, graphics and technology to the table.
    I’m only speaking for myself, But do i pose this question. Did anyone purchase a PS4 to play indie games?

    Make a list of the reason you bought a PS4…what were the top 3 reasons you bought one? Are indie games on that top 3?
    We all know we can purchase indie games for literally pennies, we can get them very inexpensively through bundles, we can get alot of them free, but is that the reason you bought a PS4?
    If you had a PS3 and maybe you still do, why did you BUY a PS4?

      AND LASTLY, I dont speak for anyone other than myself and I’m not here to bash indie games, it’s not about that. There are plenty that I play and plenty that I enjoy. The only thing I have repeatedly said is that as a service, PS PLUS has been going down hill. I’m on these blogs almost every day..very rarely have I ever posted..However, it just got to the point, that I needed to say something.
      Were you excited about the games you received in dec? Are you happy with digital downloads being more expensive than retail physical games? How about the typical game sales or the discounts? I’ve been unhappy about all of it for over a year and it was about time that i chime in and say something…I couldnt just sit back anymore and shallow this garbage there were telling us is prime rib because it’s not….it’s garbage and in my own opinion, which is mine and mine alone, that is what it has become, GARBAGE

    Oh my god SONY, really, I was expecting something big in the beginning of the year.
    Gauntlet was pretty cool in coop mode, Kings quest was kinda fun from the start, but I stopped playing for some time and I really dont want to play it again because its a bit boring.
    These two games arent really worth downloading.
    Maybe I will download DA for PS3, that game is cool

    Definatly wont be renewing my psplus account this year. The offerings for the PS4 has been VERY disappointing to say the least. No “AAA” stuff at all.

    I can honestly say that I feel like I have wasted money on this, the games available do not make it seem like it’s worth the money, and I can say I am dissatisfied and will probably not renew my subscription if this keeps up.

    Wow, these “free” ps4 games are a waste of space which seems to be the norm. I don’t know why I let myself be influenced by all the PS4 is more powerful with better performing games and PSN is at least as good as xbox live comments everywhere. I had the xbox one for a while and just recently got the ps4 with the expectation that in the worse case scenario the experience would be equal to xbox. Sadly all I have experienced is slower download speeds, an uncomfortable controller(partly due to my xbox elite controller), no exclusives I want aside of bloodborne, and far far worse perks with the PS+ subscription compared to Live.

    +1 to Jamin724’s idea of just a multiplayer subscription. I get that technically this service is cheaper then live but live is easy to find on sale for much cheaper. I don’t mind paying more for useful and quality extras but sadly we get none of that with PS+. There’s so much potential in this service and system going to waste. I’m not a fan boy by any means and have always owned every system since the NES days but currently have more fun on the other side.

    Please, just please, add backwards compatibility. If not for disc based titles then at least for digital downloads. I’m sick of having games come out on PS3 (as well as ones I already owned) not being playable simply because I decided to go “next-gen”.

      I couldn’t agree more. I am fairly new to the ps4 side of PS+ and that is exactly the type of game I expected and would have bet money it would have been that game this month since that was one of the 4 games I got on my xbox one last month.

    Lol….That’s all I can say to keep from cursing the fact I bought playstation plus….I was hoping to get dragon age BUT failed to realize it was for ps3….wouldn’t it make more sense to release mediocre arcade games for ps3 and decent 2nd stream games for ps4 considering its 2016 and ps3 is last gen?? Just my silly logic…..

      Exactly, DA:O is too the only game on here i was interested in, damn me for owning a ps4 instead of 3, although i should have figured it out months ago, went to game and traded in my ps4 and got an xbox one, I’d be playing Killer Instinct: Season 1, Zheros, DiRT Showdown and even Deus Ex: Human Revolution this month. What the hell Sony! waste of a membership!

    PS3 will get better games because they need to keep those customers interested in buying PS Plus. PS4 users have no choice, it’s forced upon them for online play, so Sony doesn’t need to make the freebies attractive.

    I ridiculed Xbox One up until they announced BC. But I traded my PS3 in for one in October and it’s actually been a pretty good experience that got better once they overhauled that awful UI. One thing, Microsoft has been very aggressive with the free games on Gold and has also been running some attractive promotions. Yes, they’re behind so they have to try harder, but I can see Sony eventually frittering away their lead because of complacency. I let my Plus lapse last week because I’ve been playing mostly on Xbox lately (never thought that would happen) and I see no reason to shell out for another year. Certainly the free PS4 games aren’t going to draw me in.

    Theese two games are decent but compared to xboxs lineups its poor. Dont get me wrong i can enjoy indi games but ives seen way to meny of them on ps+ also there crossbuys. Which is great if i still owned my ps3 but i don’t and never bought a vita so why would i want to play games intended for release on theese platforms when the ps4 verson is the exact same or worse. Give us a game with a bigger price tag next month please. Or a bunch of indi games (like 5 or 6 if theres no AAA)

    This is by far, the WORST line up, what a horrible way to start the new year. Hardware Rivals was a free beta, and I could barely find a match because no one was playing it. How about you give us something like, oh, I don’t know, A well funded game? Worms, Little Big Planet, or a Tell Tale game would be great. Just cheaping out another month. smh.

    No, I don’t like them. This is what I get on Xbox One:

    Killer Instinct: Season 1 Ultra Edition……..Great game, better than MKX by far, even when this is the 1rst season, THIS is a true gift.
    Zheros…………………………………………………….Don’t know it, so I won’t say anything good or bad.
    DiRT Showdown…………………………………….Good 360 game.
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution………………….Great game and even when PS+ has given it already (didn’t it?) I can play it on my X1 now since my 360 & PS3 broke.

    I usually don’t like commenting unless there’s something bad, anything good we pay for it (isn’t it enough?). Grim Fandango is great but we already played it on PS2 and PS3. How many versions do we need? I don’t like nostalgia so I don’t buy or play these type of games, the filtered PS3 “remasters” are an insult even (at least for 40 usd’s in my opinion).

    Pretty bad all year except for Infamous First Light, it was a really good DLC… but I won’t be renewing my membership – it’s bad for my economy.

    month after month we see the games that xbox gold are releasing for the members and getting all jealous of them.
    At this point im just sorry that I bought ps and not xbox. at least microsoft respects her gamers . u just give us month after month **** games.

    Totally underwhelming. This month was supposed to be the big January month and you give this. There are about 20 AAA games that could’ve been better on the ps4.

    i hate sony at the moment, ever since the ps3, they have slowly been declining, and its just getting worse, the ps2, was my all time favourite console, because it had limited problems, was smooth, and easy to operate, was very powerful for its time and held some of the best games ever created, then there is the ps3, where i was like cool, good games, good system, and some nice games, now there is the ps4, and i am like meh, don’t see anything out standing, and not only that but AAA companies are pumping out crappy game after crappy game, and finally sony are even declining in their free monthly games, the only good one i have seen in AGES is rocket league, but guess what, now we get absolute garbage, please sony, you are killing me, if you could just do as good as the ps2 era, i will be forever in your debt.

    Play station once again you laught at our faces, this line up socks, just as much as the 2015 over all line up, Hardware Rivals was given before and it is not that good of a game, and Fandango, come on! Turning to Xbox sometime soon.

    PS3 games are decent. PS4 games are horrible. Like others, the only good game I’ve seen in the months I’ve had my PS4 has been Rocket League. Sony needs to step it up with some good games for PS4.
