As we look forward to the New Year, we’re excited to share our January 2016 PlayStation Plus lineup with everyone. This month our PS4 games pay homage to a couple classic, fan-favorite titles, while updating the gameplay and graphics to PS4!

Hardware: Rivals makes its exclusive debut on PlayStation Plus. Get behind the wheel of a powerful tank or mobile attack jeep in this arcade-style, vehicle combat game. Inspired by the PS2 classic Hardware: Online Arena, Hardware: Rivals lets you challenge your friends or enter the online multiplayer arena on your own and experience epic vehicular mayhem with multiple maps, game modes, and special events.

If you need a breather from all the vehicle-on-vehicle combat, you can always turn to the twisted Mexican folklore of Grim Fandango Remastered. As Manny Calavera, travel agent for the Department of Death, you’ll guide poor souls to their eternal rest. Crime. Skeletons. Romance. You’ll experience it all in this update to the beloved adventure game.

These PS4 games are free for PlayStation Plus members starting on the first Tuesday of January, and you can find the full list of PlayStation Plus games below.

    what can i say , i should have gotten a ps3 instead of a ps4 , you really would expect the newer console to get the better games but so far it seems the ps3 is getting the better games

    Another month of mostly garbage games for us next gen owners. If I didn’t need to have PS+ so I could actually play online I wouldn’t renew my subscription. Thank you Sony for forcing me to pay to play online and giving me nothing in return. Seriously disappointed in the customer appreciation of PS.

    Wow looks as if 2016 is going to start with a bang. PlayStation plus is really starting out the new year with really great titles. PlayStation plus gives us the best in entertainment value throughout the year.Let’s take a look at this great value. Free cloud storage, online game play,free games every month,discounts on games weekly, discounts on movies and TV shows, discounts on PlayStation vue streaming service. And so much more.We thank you at the PlayStation plus team.       Actually subscriptions for PS Plus is up worldwide by about 35% monthly this is a phenomenal business trend that any subscription based service would love to have. Remember Sony and the PlayStation Network are a business that must profit to survive. So they can continue to provide a service to the consumer.     I’ve been holding off on PS+, waiting for a decent set of games… and yet I’ve been waiting for three months. That’s a quarter of a year. C’mon Sony, pull out some big guns!

    Remember that one time when you asked yourself, “Hmmmm… PS4 or Xbox One?” Yea me too. Thank goodness I opted for both. This is so horrible. I have hated every moment of playstation plus freebies. Why even offer free games if this is what you’re going to give us. I love Games with Gold on Xbox. At least you now get six games a month, even if only two of them are great games. I love the backwards compatibility aspect of Xbox now. Plus you really don’t see too many indie games. Playstation—- So disappointed. Thinking about ditching it for Xbox solidarity. TOO. BAD.

    PS+ subscriptions are up because ps4 is basically useless without it and Sony makes lots of money and could offer a AAA title once in awhile, there are a lot of older games that can be offered instead of the constant indie games, ps3 ran for years without having to pay to play online and ps+ was actually worth subscribing to

      There wasn’t any other incentives to buy plus for ps3 because you didn’t have to pay for online. It was just pure “free” games and deals

    It’s cool to be a PS fan, but I think some of you guys are acult-like following! It drowns out the people who genuinely want better offering! They should be better because unless all multiplayer games are on dedicated servers then no service is worth the money for MP alone. That means we are paying for games we don’t like, and people have been voicing neg opinions about these games for months with no resolution!!!

    the whole reason i’m even a plus member is to get free games. but since playstation has decided we only get the crappy games that are worth $2.99 or less (or from a different playstation generation altogether; i was done with ps3 when i got a ps4 so please stop giving me ps1 and ps2 games) maybe i should not renew the plus membership. it’s just not worth it anymore.

    wow happy new year Sony, what a terrible line up, G.F the best game offered is £2.20 on steam. its a sad state of affairs when Xbox offers better games through gold and that is a console for peasants

    WOW. Nearly 10 pages of comments from mostly disgruntled peeps should be something that Sony notices and does something about, right? Don’t hold your breath….Sony obviously doesn’t care.

    The overflowing of hatred here reminds me of the country going for Donald Trump. The frustration has gone too far. Be careful Sony, we may switch to our equivalent of Trump….the XBone.

    IT’S VERY SIMPLE- there are now *many* good PS4 games since the system launched more than 2 years ago! Where’s Knack? That title has been long speculated here for more than a year. It’s not even that good, but at least it’s not a 24-bit game you can get for $.99. Killzone: Shadow Fall, anyone?? Japan got it…why don’t we? AC4: Black Flag? ALL of these were launch titles in 2013. 2013!!! Would it be any skin off Sony’s back to put them out for +?

    Think about this….when was the last time the PS4 game for + showed off what Next-Gen can do? I can’t think of one at all.

    And the PS Vita? Don’t get me started.

    Instead of wasting my money on PS PLUS, I’ll look on EBAY and for sales and get titles that way, instead of forking over my cash and crossing my fingers every month for something that ain’t comin’……

      I’ve had both the ps4 and xbone since launch and i can tell you this, from all the “free” monthly games, the only ones from ps4 i’ve kept are Gauntlet and titan attacks

      2 games from the entire line up of PS plus for ps4

      yet i still have the majority of my games with gold from XBL especially considering now all gold games play on Xbone and they chose a perfect game to start off the year with the original Killer Instinct from Super Nintendo and the reboot made for Xbox one.

      Actually it’s like xfools sound like Hillary supporter and PlayStation supporters are true believers in freedom and choice. Like the Donald. What you need to do is really relize you think everything should be handed to you for free.You all have opinions and most of them.well you know. P.U.those of you who know this is a true value. Over 2000.00$ U.S. dollars worth of games given out in 2015. Wow 59.99$-2000.00=1940.01do the math. Several AAA games plus much more. And remember all great game company giants where once indie game company’s. Everyone needs to support the future of our industry and favorite pastime gaming. So support your indie game developers.     Solid PS3 offerings which I will definitely take advantage of and praise. More terrible PS4 offerings however. As others have said, Knack, AC:BF, Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition etc are old enough now to be offered and it would go a long way in satisfying those that would like a AAA title. Instead there are more indies which I and apparently many others have no interest in. Games with Gold is definitely offering better games than PS Plus for next gen consoles. Glad I have both.

    When are PS4 gamers going to get better free games? How about Infamous or Assasins Creed, instead of Grim or these other Indie titles? The system has been out long enough now to step it up, so in 2016 lets STEP IT UP.

    There is never a good racing game always shooters or something like that or fighting i would like to see a good racing game

    maybe like f1 2010 or need for speed shift the first one or grid 1 a good racing game come on psn you can do it

    Hardware rivals has always been free…grim looks like a stupid game. Why are all the free games stupid? I know they are free and I should just be Happy. but I can’t even think of the last time I actually downloaded one of these off the list. You guys make me pay for online use when online games don’t even run off your servers. All you guys do is show my friends list. The actual online play is on the game makers server so it costs you nothing to run it. I don’t know why you guys are greedy like you don’t make enough money already.

      The beta was free, matter of opinion. And the rest shouldnt only be directed at Sony. Microsoft did it for 8 years before offering anything for free and only came out with free games because of plus.

    I think it doesn´t matter how much we complain over the **** they feed us. Sony keeps feeding us mediocre Indies or games everyone played 20 years ago. The last good title we got was rocket league. Come on Sony, stop underwhelming the ps4 community every month.

    This is gonna sound weird, but I really like the look of Tropico 5. I wish that was one of the games this month as it’s £15.99, just like December’s Gauntlet game.

    I’ve been a huge fan of playstation since it came out and I’m still a die hard fan of it but the free ps+ is lame compared to xbox I don’t want to but if Sony won’t deliver better games I will not only cancel ps+ I will get rid of my ps4 and other consoles and try the alternative sorry Sony but ur letting a decade+ of fans down

      It saves more money than the competition and gives access to games you would definitely overlook anyway. The competition gives you games years after they came out that you probably already played or retail versions of free to play games.

    Another month of free games, another month of people complaining about free games.
    Sony can put out whatever they want too as far as i’m concerned, they gave us Rocket League for free at launch.
    Thanks for the free games Sony, I will be enjoying Grim Fandango and DA:O.

    this months lineup is kinda underwhelming. Dragon age origins i got for free on origin some time ago. Grim is great. Otherwise not what i was looking for. On PSV the lineup should include more japanese games eg games from the persona series or more games like virtue’s last reward bcs games like that are the only reason why people own that system

    Here’s an idea for a free game Sony, Assassin’s Creed Rogue for the PS3. Or how about half price at least? Why is it $39.99 on your store but the physical copies cost half that in stores? I’d buy a physical copy but my Blu-ray drive in my PS3 wore out. It’s time you start updating the prices on your store. If you can buy a game in the store for $19.99 that’s the most it should cost for the digital copy.

    Garbage Awaits…

    I love how a Sony person will act like an increase in PS+ numbers means anything other than an increase in PS4 owners who want to play online.

    Sony is back to “We have no reason to try mode” Just like we have seen so many times before. It is usually the reward for enjoying anything that they create.

    PS+ is simply the online fee, at this point. Best to just treat the terrible “free games” as a non-event. They are Solitaire status at this point.

    Have to agree with a lot of the comments if it was not for fact that you need PS+ to play online, would have canceled a while back while waiting for games i liked to show up then renew for another year rather than being pretty much forced into paying for co-op. Used to sub to ps plus cuz of the great deals now i sub to play online. Nice to see some free ps1 games again on ps3 and and even better if the plus members on PS4 would of got the FF7 PC version and maybe more of a discount on the ps2 games or even the ps1 and ps2 titles they purchased on PS3 digital that you plan on releasing again over the coming months. Also have some sort of sync process for purchases like with trophies so everything people own and bought digitally through PS3 PSN or PS3 PS+ is unlocked free of charge via PS Now or something like that. So people who have been plus members since the start can get all there stuff. Nice to see some love for the PS3 fans that invested a lot of money into the PS3 PSN store on classics and everything else. Anyways Happy New Year! hope to see you turn things around for the old fans and new in the new year and give the younger crowd some great old PS1 and PS2 titles to enjoy as well!

    Dragon Age is a great game. I’ll download it because I play it on PC and this will let me give it a nostalgic run from the comfort of the bedroom. And Nihilumbra is a very fun game in my opinion. I’ve also always wanted to try Grim Fandango. An interesting month for me!

    Been a member constant since the beginning of plus. Now I’m glad my years almost up. Will NOT be renewing my plus! Third rate titles.. I’ll spend my subscription money elseware more worth my money and time. With this lineup I wish I would have gotten vasoline for Christmas! Thanks PlayStation!..

    Honestly the line up is pretty weak. It’s cool to bring back PlayStation 2 games, but how about games some people would actually be thrilled about, such as a popular game from last year or a year ago, rather than 10.

    Come on PlayStation this is getting bad I’m no longer interested in PS plus at lease release one very good game on ps4 no offense to indie games but these are the kind of games you could get on Nintendo or playstion one I didn’t buy a ps4 for cartoon graphics or kids games like legos. Come on sony lifelong fan disappointed again please do better next month

    The free monthly games are just one benefit of PlayStation Plus. Grim Fandango retails for $15. Dragon Age Origins retails for $20. Nihilumbra retails for $10. Even if you’re not excited about the lineup, it’s hard to discredit the value. On top of this is online play, discounts and other exclusive offers. If you’re a yearly subscriber chances are you’ll get more than the value of the membership back in games you’ll enjoy throughout the year. More so if you own multiple PlayStation platforms.

    PS4 is barely 2 years old. It’s gotta be hard to secure deals on big budget games for PS+. That’s likely why we see some many Indie titles. But this exposes us to amazing games we may have missed otherwise, such as my personal 2015 GotY, Rocket League.

    I’d like to see more community involvement on choosing the games. But understandable that there’s a limit to what can be done due to the discussions that go into getting games onto the monthly free games list.

    For the UMPTEENTH time….the games are NOT free. PS + is a *PAID* service. I’m tired of the tired ole line, “stop complaining about free games”

    THEY’RE NOT FREE. AGAIN, PS PLUS IS A *PAID* SERVICE. People who subscribe to a paid service have every right to complain when that service is sub-standard.

      It’s a service. Not a monthly game service. You get 72 titles a year, excluding CrossBuy. For 40-50 bucks. It’s like 60-70 cents a game. Plus you need it to play online. I think you’re the one not getting it. It’s not the instant game collection service anymore. That was PS3 days.

    I chose a Sony product over a Microsoft product for tech and corporate ethics reasons, and have stood by my decisions since the days of the ps1 (more accurately, the betamax, to be truthful).
    I purchased the ps4 admittedly, for the strong rumors of backward compatibility. Only to find out that my thousands of dollars worth of purchases over the decades were void.
    I agree that ps plus freebs and discounts are mostly pathetic. Xb one players are getting 6 playable titles, not to mention all the titles they’ve purchased over the last 14 years thanks to full back compatibility. PS4 players get 2, ps3: 2, vita: 3
    PS4 backward compatibility, unlike what Sony says, is not a hardware issue. Emulators have been running successfully on all manner of hardware for years. Just think of the app that could be written if someone [Sony] only had access to… I don’t know, maybe the full PS4 kernel AND full hardware access?

    I thought I would speak with my dollar and support the ps4 in anticipation of the ps vr to come out soon, so I no longer have a ps3 and I now pay for my plus membership, but I am now really really regretting it and seriously considering going for the occulus rift.

    This lineup for ps4 is shameful, and insults me as a gamer.

    I havent given up completely, but if you keep it up like you have for the past few months, I will.

    Two thumbs down.

    It… It angers me that so many people are complaining about the line up. Its free games! I for one enjoy looking into the monthly line ups! If I don’t see anything i like well its not that bad because they were all free to begin with. Not something Id go and sell my system over. I find that over reacting and ridiculous. Grow up seriously.

    I am excited to play Grim Fandango. I had a feeling it was gonna be free at some point :P
