PS4 System Software Update 3.00 Out 9/30, Take a Visual Tour

The 3.00 system software update on PS4, codename: Kenshin, will be available to download starting tomorrow, September 30th. We want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone that participated in the beta. I want you to all know that we’ve listened. Your feedback made this system software update even better.

There are a lot of changes in this update, from entirely new features to UI enhancements. While we detailed its key features earlier this month, we wanted to give a visual tour of our favorite new additions. This update is focused on creating new ways to connect with friends and players around the world, expanding the social capabilities of the system even further.

Sharing video clips to Twitter: Now it’s easy to share video clips to Twitter directly from your PS4. You’ll see a new icon on the Upload Video Clip menu, nestled between Facebook and YouTube. Maximum video length is 10 seconds, though you’ll have the ability to trim longer clips. Don’t forget — you can double tap the Share button to start recording a video, and press it again to stop.

PlayStation Plus: We’ve made a dedicated section for PlayStation Plus, which you can access by clicking the big Plus icon on the top left corner of your PS4 home screen. Once there you can easily manage your membership, see the monthly free games to download, deals for PS Plus members, and all of the games you’ve redeemed through PS Plus on PS4.

YouTube live: You’ll see a new icon for YouTube on the Broadcast Gameplay Screen, accessible after hitting the Share button. Now you can live stream directly from your PS4 to YouTube. Livestreams will be viewable across YouTube.

PNG Screenshots: If you’d like your game screenshots to be in a higher quality format, you can now select PNG instead of JPEG. To access, press Share > Share Settings > Screenshot Settings > Image Format.

Events: A new hub for Events has been added to PS4, accessible from the home screen. This will give you an overview of activities taking place in the games you play most, as well as official broadcasts. For instance, here’s an in-game racing event taking place in Project Cars, which you can register for directly from the Events hub.

Improvements to Messages and Favorite Groups: We’ve improved Messages by making it easier to access groups of people you chat and play games with frequently. Once you’re added to or create a group, you’ll see the online status for friends, what games they are playing, and the option to message or chat in party all in one spot. When you add or create a new favorite group, they’ll appear in your Friends app under Favorite Groups for quick access. For example, you can see we have favorite groups for Call of Duty, Rocket League, and Destiny.

Communities: PS4 users will have the ability to create communities based around shared interests, like games, genres, and more. Communities include a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players, and the ability to join parties / games.

Stickers: From the PS4 system’s Messages app, you’ll see a new option for Stickers. The 3.00 update will contain stickers themed around Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Knack, LittleBigPlanet 3, Resogun, and more. Instead of typing out a message, just send a sticker — like Drake looking at a watch, asking you to wait a minute.”

OMG stop with all of the social crap updates. Fix core UI problems. Let us hide stuff like that silly new Events tab, PS Now, Spotify, etc from the start menu. Let us turn the stupid light on the controllers OFF. Stop playing those Discover blah blah blah notifications. Let me turn off that “Players you may know” section in my Friends list.

Where’s the USB Music Player app? Switching albums is cumbersome with the Media Player, having to suspend the game in order to do so. Neither can we double tap the PS button to switch between them like before. Along with Folders/Sorting Options, Custom Wallpaper, External HDD support, etc., Please bring back the USB Music Player or remove suspend from Media Player. Otherwise, cool update!

  USB Media Player has been replaced by Media Player. It has the same basic functionality, plus more. If you want to change music tracks or adjust music volume while in a game, give the PS button a long press for the Quick Menu. The Quick Menu won’t suspend the game.

  Actually it’s not the same functionality Andrew. The USB player allowed us to Play All tracks and then shuffle repeat them all. There’s no way for us to do that with the media player. I can literally only play one album at a time because there’s no “Play All” feature, and you have to drill down the folders to get to any tracks to play. And no, adding every single song as a favorite is out of the question. It would be embarrassing to require users to do that just to accomplish such a simple task. Very miffed about this. Haven’t been listening to music while I play since the Beta because USB player disappeared, and now I still can’t.

To shorten: let me remove STUPID icons from your horrible UI, like “Events” and “People you may know” – I don’t care and never will. Ever. Bring back backwards compatibility and stop pushing the terrible PS Now. Stop pushing TV TV TV TV and MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC on me. Make a Media Player that is AT LEAST as good as your last gen consoles. Do you realize how ridiculous that is?

  I agree. The media player feels rushed and it barely functions as a local music player. Spotify doesn’t have all of my purchased music library so it isn’t up to snuff. Unless they can add a Play All Tracks function for music my gaming experience is now less than it was before 3.00.

So, not only did you add a bunch of features. But you also removed one key feature that I really wanted. You removed the ability to listen to Spotify while broadcasting. Listening to Spotify while broadcasting, was literally, THE ONLY reason I used Spotify. I even PAID FOR PREMIUM to avoid listening to the adds. Needless to say, I’m extremely pissed off about this and I can’t be the only one. Way to f**k up a good thing sony. Bravo. That Xbox One is starting to look better and better with every update.

I see the playstation Plus Icon in the screenshot but not on my console. What’s the deal?

Also, it’s great you can have a higher grade of screenshot taken, for which there is no reason to be taking in the first place. If I could use these scenic shots I’ve taken of my characters in Destiny and in ESO and other games as a background then yeah there’d be a reason to do it.

All these trophy screenshots etc… essentially are useless without being able to use them as a background or edit them in fun or interesting ways.

This update doesn’t feel like a 3.00 at all.

Quick suggestion for upcoming updates. When I play my ps4 I usually have my headphones plugged into the controller, listening to Spotify most of the time… The sad thing is that I have to hold the ps button to adjust the sound volume in the quick menu. It would be ideal to hold the ps button and L2/R2 at the same time to change the volume straight away from in game screen and maybe pop up a notification to let you know the percentage. Otherwise, keep up the good work ! Cheers

I’ve been searching for this newly added PS+ section that’s supposedly available by hitting the BIG + Icon in the top right but, I don’t see it. Anyone else not finding this?? Is this something that’s just not active til next months update?? I’ve already made a group and a community but I can’t seem to find this little bugger. Thanks for any help in advance.

Ps4 we love you playstation lays sib contact Phil Spencer to help out. I bet he would give us what we want and deserve. He pushed xbox to get BC and countless other things easy harder than what we are asking. We need someone with his passion and love of games to get in the drivers seat and make this console love up to its potential.

Hi, my clan/guild tried to create a community and it only says “Your community still isn’t created, try again” and the error persists when creating a name and only appears as “invalid characters” excuse. Please fix it.

Look its real simple.
If Sony would post all of the features they and the community want in an update and say hey here are the most asked for updates the top two voted for will be put in the next update. Sony would be gods in my book and I guarantee they will blow Microsoft clean out of the water. If Sony does something like this I can see Microsoft quickly doing the same thing in order to keep their console alive!

Update isn’t even working right. It downloaded last night while I was asleep. I woke up to my system having been off instead of in rest mode and there being a even button in place of something that used to be there. I don’t remember what it is, but it is gone now. How is it not working right? Well the playstation plus symbol isn’t there like they say it should be. I am a plus member, so that symbol would have actually been a little bit useful. Not absolutely necessary, but a little more convenient instead of having to doddle about in the store when all I want is to see the plus stuff. Their store has gotten extremely convoluted. It has been like this since the PS3. They updated the store away from their easy to use format to this convoluted system we use now. I try and try to understand it, but to no avail. It is extremely awkward to navigate. I don’t like using it at all.

I’m still waiting for the ability to hide/delete things from my library… I do not want to see all the demos or betas anymore, nor do I want to see games that I no longer play anymore. Is it really that hard?

Communities need some work already. There is no search option (that I could find). And why are there so many steps? Friends -> Communities -> Discover Communities -> then you can see your and your friend’s communities and the most popular. Why isn’t that information all under the Communities tab? Lots of unnecessary steps.

I’m not happy with the new update, I am perfectly fine with everything that was add except for one thing the media player app, why was the usb app remove for that I literally give the media player a try and I hate it , for one when you press the home button it has to pause the music so then it can continue playing on the home menu, two if your playing a game like destiny that’s online all the time and you decided you want to listen to something else you have to suspend your game just to do that, you remove something that was so good and replace it with something so bad, right now I wish there was way to go back to the old update and still be able to go online.

I can’t believe no one else is complaining about the removal of the USB Music Player APP. That was the first thing I opened every time I powered on my PS4. Could listen to music while playing a game, switch to Netflix, music pauses, then when I go back to playing or leave Netflix, music would resume.

The Media Player app does not do the same, and as far as I can tell there’s no way to just Play ALL or even Play a whole Folder. You have to add every song to Favorites? What am I missing here, because this just seems ridiculous to me.

If you do decide to go through with the 3.0 update beware of your PS4 not turning back on and repeatedly restarting and not helping whatsoever. After the update my system would not turn back on and controller wouldn’t connect. It restarted about ten times with no success of finding the problem. In this case the update caused my PS4 to “brick”. Instead of calling Sony which probably would have done me no help and would just be more money out of my pocket I took the problem into my own hands by holding the power button until I heard two beeps which will cause the PS4 to enter safe mode and then I proceeded to Initialize my system causing a wipeout of my console. I then re-downloaded all my games and profiles. It works fine now. Please try this method before sending your PS4 into Sony and paying them for a problem they caused.

I not 100% sure anyone said this yet but i share really good thing today that no one brings up alot but this is what i said for my idea on PS Blog Share: All are PS3 Avatar’s we brought should be carry over to PS4 from Account Management so we can change Avatars to are Premium Avatars we brought so we don’t have to keep jumping on PS3 to keep change it.

Its be super honest its pain in the butt to keep doing this all the time and i love to save much more time by being able to select my PS3 Avatar i brought in my PS4 Account Management. I love having my Premium Avatars show next to my PS4 image photo of me or my other images i have. If you love the Premium Avatars you brought and want to keep using them on PS4 please support it. My idea should be their soon for people to vote on it. Hope you will support it. : )

So Sony says this:

“Online storage capacity increase — PS4 online storage capacity has increased from 1GB to 10GB for all PS Plus members. In 3.00 system software, you’ll see that we added a handy usage meter to monitor your available storage capacity, and a new Auto-Upload menu has been added to Application Saved Data Management.”

about the update. But I don’t see this “handy usage meter” for the online storage. I see the new “Auto-Upload menu” and that’s cool, letting easily and selectively choose which game saves get backed up to the Cloud. But where is the usage meter showing me how much Cloud storage I am using right now?

  You’ll see the usage meter when you make a change to online storage. For instance, when you are on the screen for uploading or deleting a game save from online storage, you’ll see a meter at the bottom right that says ‘Free Space After Deleting.” Take a look!

New update more problems. Just updated to the new update and after an hour after the install i put the ps4 in rest mode to download some updates for the evil within. Came back an hour later and ps4 refused to wake up from rest mode and tried manually shutting it down and that didn’t work out either. So guess what had to pull the plug

Playstation Plus subscribers can access their account easily by clicking on the Plus Sign at the left hand corner of the screen? What Plus sign?? I don’t see any plus sign. The i icon is the last icon on the left had side? I’ve tried scrolled further.. nothing? What the hell?

Sort of a smale issue with PS4 I’ve had from the beginning. With PS3 you pop in a blu-ray and a picture from the movie and the title pop up but with PS4 its just a disc logo

Ever since this update came out its just caused my ps4 to crash and burn.. It won’t load any content or launch games.. Really buggy.. If I scroll to the top menu and then back to the game icons it shows both lines of content overlapping and everything… pretty much made my ps4 useless. I can only sit here and stare at the menu.. Not happy Sony!

I have been having problems playing my games now ever since this update. It would show the game loading then suddenly it say it can’t play the software. Luckily my game did play or i would be having major problems. I have been wanting to change my username forever now! I dont want to have to restart all my games just because I had to make a new account, my fiancee did that and he lost all his trophies. Please add the name changing feature and customizable wallpapers.
