The Drop: New PlayStation Games for 9/1/2015
The Drop

Some weeks come around and there’s so much good gaming compressed into such a small space of time, panic attacks are induced. This is one such week. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Mad Max, Grow Home, Super Time Force Ultra, and much more all launch on PlayStation this week. Bid farewell to your free time.

The long awaited return of tactical espionage action sneaks onto PS4 this week. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings a tremendous open world to all the stealthy proceedings, with gameplay heavily rooted in the precedent set by Peace Walker. Control Big Boss like never before, build up and outfit Mother Base, and unravel the mysterious story woven across more than a decade of games.

If you’re not entirely the stealthy type, why not get a little grease on your fingers with Mad Max, coming to PS4. Developed by Avalanche Studios (Just Cause series), this brutal open-world action game gives players control of grizzled survivor Max and his beat-up-but-ever-reliable Magnum Opus.

That’s just the start, folks! For the full list of new games coming to PlayStation, read on. And enjoy the Drop!

  • This is one of those RARE times when I want more than one or two games from the week’s “drop” – “I Want It All” (Cue electric guitar fr the song by Queen.). I mainly want all three of the games we got to vote for recently – Armello, Grow Home, and the one I voted for, but reached 3rd place, Zombie Vikings. I’m pre-ordering MGSVTPP for the pre-order goodies, but won’t get to play it until I finish MGSVGZ (Still on the first mission – I’m a completionist when it comes to Rambo-ing (Killing off the enemy, by attrition.) A tactical stealth/espionage action game. -But I also want Mad Max, SO bad. I love open world games, so MGSVTPP and Mad Max will keep me busy for a while. I love online co-op 4-player beat-’em-ups, so Zombie Vikings will scratch my itch or help my withdrawal over Scott Pilgrim/Dragon’s Crown (If only Double Dragon Neon had 4-player online co-op!) until River City Ransom Underground comes out. Times like these are what make life worth living – great games that you MUST play before you leave the world, NEW, non-George Lucas Star Wars movies coming out soon, phase two and phase three Marvel flicks. Kinda makes your winky tingle, doesn’t it? ☆SPARKLES☆

  • Great lineup. Time to indulge in this superficial fantasy universe lol

  • I love Metal Gear but Mad Max is getting my money this week. Will also pick up Armello.

  • Nice, wanted to try out Disgaea 5. Demos are nice.

  • Armello looks good. Any idea on price?

  • I wonder if there will be more PS1 and PS2 classics coming. It would be amazing to see the Lunar games released to PSN as well as the rare shooter from Square, Einhander :)

  • SOOOO…. are you being serious about spacehulk, or is this another joke like 2 weeks ago?

  • Why isn’t Ride available in North America yet ?

  • No sign of Disgaea 5 demo… :( I was really looking forward to that.

  • Drop day is usually an exciting day, but i cant get the terrible taste out of my mouth about the PS+ free game vote. Having taken the time to research the 3 games, i found Grow Home to be questionable, while the other two were very different but both equally viable. Yet somehow “Grow Home” won. I dont understand that choice, and i dont like having my games chosen by random unknown people. Especially when no game even got a majority of the votes.

So you have over 50% of people NOT voting for the “winner”. That seems like a bad system.

Obviously Sony knows Grow Home isnt worth the price of the other two….that must be for a reason.

I HOPE Sony never does the “vote” again.

Allowing some (not even a majority) PS+ members to control a service i pay for, seems unfair and a bad idea. I dont spend money to rely on votes, i trust Sony to do whats best for their patrons….with their informed opinion.

Im sorry, its just what i think.

  • is it sad or funny that so far the only game ive seen for ps4 that i actually want is fallout 4 which im going to buy for my pc kinda happy my ps plus subscription ends april 2016, though this means i have many months left of being dissapointed “oh boy twisted metal geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee whiz!!!!”

  • and whats even funnier to me is i said last month i really dont care how old the free game is as long as its good GOOOOOOOD not garbage not idiotic not worthless not so bad you would have to get me drunk and pay me ALOT of money to play it on someone else s system because said game is worthless idiotic garbage i wouldnt put on my system if i had a choice of said game or no game, i wiil give sony points for giving us a game small enough that some people could download it as opposed to last months ” it’s your own fault for getting a 80 gb system’ god of war im gonna end this here cause if i keep going im gonna say some really really horrible $#!#

  • Wow such idiot voting for Grow Home, a mario type game come on, it was a mediocre type game that was gonna be low in price any ways, vote for the one thats gonna cost more and then buy the other at discount, come on kids think before voting, get more out of what your paying, I think it was rigged. Also make both most voted games free for Playstation Plus.

  • Alecj22, you’re not the only one who pays for this service that you pay for, AND you have the same proportion of control over what wins the vote, by casting a vote of your own. I voted for Zombie Vikings, myself, which made 3rd place, but I also wanted Grow Home, so I’m not so bothered that I got one for free while having to pay a reduced price for the other one. In my case, that is exactly what I would ultimately be doing anyway, right? Paying $13.99 for one game instead of $19.99, while getting the other for free? The outcomes was, in essence, the same. I paid a cost that I already expected, and got both the games I wanted. -But whether or not the vote was rigged, we ultimately had the 100% chance to get one game for free and the other two would be discounted.

  • To bobbycracky: You mean you aren’t already drunk, as of the time you posted two comments, regarding your distaste over what games were voted for? You regret getting an 80GB game console with a cheap monthly subscription that allows you to get FREE games every single month…? When XBL first did that on my XB360, I thought it was a cool idea to put into motion, but their games were REALLY crappy, starting out. I’m not sure if they improved since then, since I haven’t powered on my XB360 in almost two years now. The PS3/PS4/PSV console family has added a lot of games, with great frequency, to my library, not just from freebies, but sales that are almost as good as the ones on Steam. Before my PS+ sub, I already had a 15+ year backlog of games I wanna get to. (I stock up on games for rainy day times, like when you go through a time of unemployment and have all your resumés/applications filled out/turned in and have nothing to do but wait on phone calls. Lol) -Now, my backlog goes 20-25 years. XD
