PS Plus: Free Games for May 2015

Another collection of excellent games joins PlayStation Plus this May, and you’ve come to the right place for details!

Let’s begin with a fan-favorite game with a crazy colorful art style: Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on PS4. Is that title a mouthful? Sure! A mouthful of delicious hand-to-hand combat! Bask in Guacamelee’s mix of platforming, puzzle solving, and exquisite video game humor.

Also up for grabs on PS4: Ether One. This new, first-person puzzle game tasks you with restoring the broken minds of the mentally ill through surreal puzzles. Can you unravel their tangled lives and also find answers to your own desperate questions?

Other games this month include the critically acclaimed indie project The Unfinished Swan, solar speed-demon Race the Sun, and the calmly explorative Hohokum, all of which are available on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. As well as the oddly charming Murasaki Baby, available on PS Vita.

These games will be free for Plus members starting on May 5th. Would you like to know more? Hit the video below, and hear me rant about video games for a few minutes!

  • pretty sure unfinshed swan was already a psplus game. are they just recycling the old games for last-gen now?

  • I think im switching to Xbox now

  • I know there free but I wish they had better games for ps3 and ps vita. Another disappointed month of games. I don’t know if I should pay for another of playstation plus

  • 353 – U didn’t think Dishonored or Killzone Mercenary were high quality games last month?

  • I LOVE the list thank you Sony for giving us such interesting games and providing such incredible value. Love Murasaki Baby and Race the Sun on Vita. Excited to replay Guacamelee on ps4. Hohokum is a beautiful experience I’m glad ppl get to play it. At least ppl are getting exposed to some very underrated games, glad ppl got to play Counterspy as that was a very innovative game from a talented young company.

  • Fanboy alert ^

The list sucks for 90% of the players posting.

  • Well, another not-next-gen month for next-gen owners. I guess I’ll try Guacamelee… I just hope Sony would change the PS+ model. I also own an XONE and a subscription to Gold. The only offer 1 or 2 games but way better discounts. If you aren’t ready for including more decent titles, give us better deals.

  • Guacamelee only thing worth downloading here imo

  • First **** Month since I started back in December. Finally I feel like all the people that have been complaining all the other months that I didn’t get. I waited a month for this……. Literally not 1 interesting game, just some puzzle and “relaxing” and artsy games. Guacamelee is old and been on sale like 100 times and through tons of iterations, everyone should have played it by now, as I have, and it’s good, but besides that, nothing. They really need bigger budget games.

  • horrible lineup glad i cancelled

  • I wish I hadnt re-upped m subscription if the games are going to be this lackluster. Guacamelee is great but I already have it .

  • Might grab all of these this month. Not the greatest line up but I’ve yet to play any of them.

  • Terrible lineup. I’d rather be put on a death-march than play these. What happened to Holmes? Dishonoured? Killzone mercenary? Counterspy?
All great games. All this is is a pile of indie trash; especially ether one which is a walking simulator with a poor storyline (Oh wow, there’s a twist at the end and
it makes you ‘more mindful’ of people with degenerative brain disorders, like alzimers.
) the puzzles don’t even require you to complete them, you can blaze through the game in an hour and the puzzles are a drag too since you can only hold one item (if memory serves); for example if I want to pick up a coin or a matchbox I must carry it (sometimes a fair distance) to the puzzle site. Is there a reward for completing all the mind numbing puzzles? Yes, you get a special “wow you did it, aren’t you awesome!!! speech after the credits roll.
Just thinking about that game makes me want to paint my walls with my brains.

  • Wow… what a bunch of indie crap – except for Guacamelee, which of course is the only game worth having and I already have it. Wow… I know Sony is desperate for money… but wow, this is garbage.

  • I’m tired of always indies in the PS4 IGC.

to be honest they should atleast give us every 3-6 month one bigger retail game like knack, sherlock, wolfenstein, sleeping dogs, trials. thats all the complain about nothing more or less.

  • ToKKeNbL00dMoNeY

Really? The last couple months have been just trash even one good free game for the ps4 would be nice not these horrible indie games all the time :/

  • There has been a massive quality drop off between the free games we got for the ps3 than for the ps4. Alot of my favorite games I had for the 3 were the free monthly games. DMC, Saints Row, NBA 2K14, Batman and many more. Since I’ve gotten the 4, all I’ve seen for the free games is a bunch of cookie cutter crap.

  • In June 2015 they should give out 1 AAA Game for PS4 like Rayman, Wolfenstein, Trials, Sherlock and June 16/18 at E3 Experience they should give out KNACK or Little Big Planet 3 for free for everyone. That would be a smart move to thank their customers.

  • Sony will not give out a good game until they see ps plus subs drop significantly. In order to play multiplayer on ps4, you need ps plus so I don’t see a significant drop happening.

More indies in June. yay! /sarcasm

  • Y so many indie titles? Its really getting annoying can we get a freaking retail game for once

  • Trash… what can i say, its just free..

  • Ahh, finally something decent. I’ve been holding out on Guacamelee for a while. I’m glad I waited :3

  • So far it’s been 5 months of indie games on ps4… Disappointing if you ask me. The next AAA game will probably be destiny the most sold game everyone and their uncle owns. :-/

  • Lizardking_8989

When you look at what’s being offered on Xbox live in terms of free games this lineup is a joke

  • Is at least one AAA game a month too much to ask for? I’m not expecting Call of Duty or anything like that, but at least give us SOMETHING decent. Until then I’m content with not having Plus.

  • OMG I fall asleep every month watching the line-ups here, I wont be renewing PS+ its just not worth it

  • Some _____ are saying free games are great but seem to forget lots of people like me don’t bother with RUBBISH so we’ve been ripped off. Please stop making silly remarks, think before typing

  • In the last two years, I have only enjoyed one game and a couple of indies that I could have purchased for $25 or less, yet I doled out $100. Xbox subscribers get a triple A game every month, sometimes two. These Indies are fine if you like old mechanics, but they don’t interest me in the least probably because this is all we had in the 80s and 90s to play. It should be just called Indie Plus subscription. One triple A game for free a year that you could get for $5 anyway, isn’t worth the subscription.

  • I am quite curious about Ether one and Unfinished Swan. Guacemelee looks cool too. I already have Race the Sun so that point is a bit moot.

Overall though, it’s an Indie filled Ps Plus again which is sure to irk the majority who were hoping for a AAA feature, especially after the leak rumours.

  • Sony, I hate you. I bought this game just a couple months ago on sale and have barely played it. Now it’s free. You do that on purpose, don’t you? You put something on sale so people buy it, knowing that it’ll be free a few months later. You are awful.

  • The only Indie game I look forward to is No Man’s Sky

  • Some of the Indie games you have added to PS+ have been great. Some not so much. I know its only been about 1.5 years on PS4 but some AAA titles would be great to add to the mix.

  • Meanwhile Xbox fans get Castle Storm, Pool Nation for Xbox One and Mafia II and F1 2013 for Xbox 360…since when did Xbox start outdoing the Playstation with their free game offerings?

  • On top of that, I lived through the Atari 2600, NES, Master System days, why do I want to revisit those days again with these “Indie” games? These are just an excuse for a developer not to put much work into a title and charge a premium. Most of these games aren’t any better than those you find on smartphones these days for only a couple of bucks, let’s be honest.

  • I’m not going to lie, i am really getting disappointed with PSN free games.

xbox has seen the lights of bioshock infinite, GOW judgement day, AC Black flag and many other top games.

most of the ones we have had over the last couple of months on psn i have never even heard of. i think the best one has probably been abes oddyse remake.

PLEASE COPY THIS IF YOU AGREE :

PLEASE PSN PULL YOUR FINGER OUT OR I MAY HAVE TO DUST OFF THE XBOX!!!

  • Mehh, Nothing for me this month except Guacamelee.

  • DestroyerFluffy

Thank you very much for making games no one would buy free. How nice of you.

  • oppositesleeper

very lame line up. I would really like to see more “real” games and less of these poorly made download titles that only appeal to a very small group of people.

  • I played Guacamelee to death on the Vita. Excellent game, but doubt I’ll play it again. I hope Ether One is okay as the rest looks crap as usual.

  • Crap Crap Crap. Oh Joy I Have The Ability To Cross Buy Crap. I Remember When PS+ Cared About Its Customers. Once PS4 Came Along And You Had To Have Plus For Multi Player Sony Took A Collective Crap On All Of Us. I Used To Tell Everyone That Plus Was The Best Thing Around Now I Tell Them Not To Bother Unless They Game Online.

  • I am very disappointed in ps plus, it use to be awesome but its now crap. If this keeps happening every month I will be ditching my ps subscription.

  • Sorry, IMO this is another lame month of crappy games.

  • Il_WidowmakeR_Il

I never got Plus for my PS3 but saw all these awesome free games the plus members got. Soon as I got my PS4, I got Plus just to get my hands on some awesome free games every month. Now all the free games are Nintendo looking games. I played the Nintendo in the 80’s…why do I want to play games like that 35 years later. Very disappointed in the Plus for the PS4 compared to what PS3 members use to get. Sad really…

  • Wow, weak sauce. Looks like an all indie developer month.
No AAA or even AA titles.
I’ve got Guacamelee. It’s nice. The rest meh.

  • This month’s very weak lineup is the entire reason why I didnt renew my Playstation Plus….and the fact that they basically force you to get it is the reason why I will not be getting a PS4…..step it up Sony

  • Indie games are cool..but…jeez this is getting ridiculous. A lot of big titles dont even do demos anymore. Remember early ps3 days when pretty much EVERY game had a free demo. Times are sad. ps+ is nothing but indie games…very few demos come out. Day 1 patches for pretty much every game to make them playable and hundreds of dollars in dlc planned before game even launches…Buy half a game then download the other half with a season pass. :(

  • “The Unfinished Swan” was a huge hit at my house. You’ll love it. The other freebies look great too. Although I would love to see a “Wolfenstein” or “Knack” show up for free, it’s usually the clever indie greats that fall off my radar.

I’m beginning to see the pattern of a great sale on a game and then it’s release as a PS Plus game. Disappointing, but at least buying a game renders it playable when your PS Plus subscription lapses.

  • We did not spend hundreds of dollars to play indie games.

  • Nice lineup! I’m particularly excited for Guacamelee. It will be my DrinkBox fix until Severed is released.
