PS Plus: Free Games for May 2015

Another collection of excellent games joins PlayStation Plus this May, and you’ve come to the right place for details!

Let’s begin with a fan-favorite game with a crazy colorful art style: Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on PS4. Is that title a mouthful? Sure! A mouthful of delicious hand-to-hand combat! Bask in Guacamelee’s mix of platforming, puzzle solving, and exquisite video game humor.

Also up for grabs on PS4: Ether One. This new, first-person puzzle game tasks you with restoring the broken minds of the mentally ill through surreal puzzles. Can you unravel their tangled lives and also find answers to your own desperate questions?

Other games this month include the critically acclaimed indie project The Unfinished Swan, solar speed-demon Race the Sun, and the calmly explorative Hohokum, all of which are available on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. As well as the oddly charming Murasaki Baby, available on PS Vita.

These games will be free for Plus members starting on May 5th. Would you like to know more? Hit the video below, and hear me rant about video games for a few minutes!

  • Great selection this month! Super excited to get Guacamelee, and Ether One looks really interesting. Also love that as a PS4 and Vita owner I’m able to get all 6 games this month…and I don’t own any of them yet. Score!

  • Has Driveclub been canceled as a Plus game or is there still a possibility that it eventually may be added?

  • Omg yes! All of these games i do not own! …it would stay that way if not for sony amazing generous heart. Buying ps plus was best decision ever, now I can play the next gen Nokia games on ps4 yay…

  • My ps plus just expire today

  • This is going to be a great month! I’ve almost bought Guacamelee and Hohokum a number of times. I’ve been wanting those for a while and I’m so glad I held out! I am so happy to be getting them with plus!

  • Honestly, I am a bit dissapointed. I like indies, I’ve played and enjoyed lots of them, but I think that you should have throw at least one “big” game in the line up, for any console. I don’t feel like complaining, but this line up as it is, is a little weak. Well, at least I get to try The Unfinished Swan, thanks for that. Really looking forward to June.

  • Truly, it shouldn’t be that difficult to comprehend that $50 per year (about $4 a month) is not going to secure top-of-the-line offerings with your subscription. It’s simple economics. And math. And other stuff that only people ages 5 and up can understand.

You’re delusional if you thought the IGC wasn’t designed to be this way from the get-go, AS A PART of the overall service dubbed PLUS (meaning, in addition to…). The reason we see the cheaper and lesser-known titles is because it was always part of the promotion/distribution strategy. You guys act surprised to see so many indies when it’s only obvious it should be that way. Headliners sell well on their own without the need for excessive promotion, and the smaller companies benefit from more exposure. Balancing satisfaction for all affiliates, keeping the integrity of their business objectives intact – to be the source of unique and diverse entertainment experiences.

  • For those expecting AAA games every month – THE FUNDS SIMPLY AREN’T THERE. Do you know what that means? It means you don’t get what you want. You get what they can give within budget. Understand that, hopefully you’ll be a little more appreciative.

Ah, who am I kidding… you’ll whine until the day you die.

But, at least you can still have EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT by simply BUYING IT. Isn’t it amazing how that works? We all win. Some just don’t realize the brilliance sitting right under their noses.

  • Another crappy lineup, smh. No Atelier?

  • FINALLY A NICE LINE-UP, that beneficts ps4 owners!!

  • I’ve been wanting to play those Vita titles. Guacameelee is a great game.

Each month has had something of interest. I come to the blog to read the comments. I can laugh all day long on this thread alone.

  • Hohokum HYPE!! the other games look great. I finished Guacamelee! but never played the DLC so i´m excited.

  • So when i first got plus i was excited about the awesome free games and now month after month of crap indie games if this keeps up i wont be renewing my plus. I get it that plus isn’t just for the free games but come on Sony throw us a a bone at least.

  • @PrimeroIncognito – well said. It appears you’re in the very small minority of people who understands how PS+ works. So many spoiled brats and entitled whiners in the comments, month after month. What do people expect for $4 a month? Looking at this lineup, these games are an awesome value. I already own Guacamelee on PC and Unfinished Swan (wife bought it full price at launch). And I’m still stoked with those Vita games alone.

@TwinDad – same here. Laughing at the comments helps me get thru the work day. Some things will never change.

  • Seriously guys, why do you hate indie games? Does it really matter if a game is made by a small team or a large team? Games are games and we play them for enjoyment. Some of my favorite games are indie titles, so try to have an open mind and be appreciative of what these small teams can make. All this complaining is ridiculous and makes you sound very immature.

  • Great lineup! Previous months were kind of meh, but this month, ALL the games are appealing to me. May can’t come soon enough! Thank you, Sony!

  • Nice! Been curious about Unfinished Swan & Murosaki Baby

  • Great line-up! Thanks!

  • This is the month my PS+ subscription expires.

It won’t be missed. The majority of the offerings since this time last year have been garbage and indie garbage.

No reason to hang onto the sub, and less reasons to hang onto my PS4. I think I’m gonna sell it and put the proceeds towards upgrading my PC.

    “Next Gen gaming” my ass.

  • Really Sony? All indies… Mix it up a bit will ya?

  • @PS_man1984

Because Indie games are more concerned with “style” over “substance”.

Hardcore gamers don’t care about “style” They want a game with some meat to it. And the PS4 was supposed to be the system for the hardcore.

  • Woohoo. The month of May, marks my 1 year anniversary of not having PS Plus. Not regretting it yet.

  • @jibjab
Going on 3 years for me. Missed out on some good ones. The last 2 years looked like all crap games.

  • Opposite April this month is OK.

  • These lineups are getting worse should of got a Xbox one even the ps3 and 360 get better games or at least one’s worth playing for longer than 2mins

  • Almost all the games are cross buy – that’s awesome.

  • Another month I wont be bothering, Xbox gave a way a big game every month, I appreciate the next gens havent been around long enough for a big game to get given a way yet, but lets not dress average up as something more. Fact is Sony ould of sorted this by making PS3 games compatible with the PS4 and giving a big PS3 game away each month, these are all obscure and not exactly what you buy a next gen console to experience. If Xbox can do it, Sony should be able to too.

  • booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I was hoping for a AAA game. Even Knack would have been alright. That`s how desperate I am. Another disappointing month, lets just hope that june or july will be better, it would be wise to have a strong ICG then, with the E3 just around around the corner.

  • Lol white knights and business experts in the comments.

  • How about The Sly Collection for VITA? And isn’t it about time for Knack on PS4?

  • Primerincognito must have just started with Plus. It used to be so much better, with AAA games all the time. And it was before it was mandatory and had far fewer subscribers.

The line up sucks. The line up almost always sucks.
I completely stopped buying games from the store because its the only way to even have a chance of getting value from plus.

  • Yahoo for Cross Buys!

  • Guacamole and Unfinshed Swan are definitely quality games and it’s nice to see the variety of titles continuing. That said, I’m still a little disappointed in the selection this month as we had been seeing a good AAA title included in the monthlies lately, even if they were older titles. I don’t pay $15 for indies on release so I don’t see that as value, I wait for a good sale. I think we really need to see a AAA release for PS4 soon but with the requirement of PS+ for its online, Sony really doesn’t need to cater to PS4 users.

  • Guacamelee. DYAC…

  • @jibjab
Almost 2 years here and counting.

hahahahaha renewing my ps+ is becoming a distant dream.

  • siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh………………………………………

  • Almost all of these are cross buys that’s awesome 5 free games for PS4. I love seeing people ***** about free stuff. if you only assumed 2 games a month that’s 24 games a year and that easily pays for your PS+ even if you don’t go yearly.

I’d say the average is more like 3 games a month. I don’t have the patience to gather all of the numbers on average price per game and average number of free games per console but I bet we are getting well over our subscription fees in free games even if you only count the ones you like.

  • Interesting month for me. I have heard about most of these games, wanted to try them too, but just didn’t want to put out the cash for them and now I don’t have to. Thanks PlayStation! : )

  • @308 but when other services offer better titles and cost the same all these people have a reason to complain

  • I don’t know why people can’t understand that Sony has a business and that they do this for money. Thats why they are not giving awesome games for free on a monthly basis! But even that way, having a PS+ membership it’s a very good deal.

If you pay for a yearly membership, ($4.16 dollars a month), in return you have some discounts on games, cloud saving, and at least 2 games to download and play on your console… What is wrong with that?

Of course I would love to have Killzone, Knack, Tombraider or Rayman for free, but you guys want AAA games paying 4 bucks…. Really? Are you nuts?

If you like the PS+ games just download them and play them, if not, buy games and stop complaining.

  • all indie games last me 1 or 2 days tops so as a gamer ive got nothing to do last 2-3 weeks and have to buy others most of the time

  • on the plus side they r for everything so I can use my vita more

  • and u really need to have ps3/ps4/vita to really get any value out of this im sure people still haven’t bought vita and some haven’t even bought a ps4 yet

  • @yowzagabowza

“The line up sucks. The line up almost always sucks.
I completely stopped buying games from the store because its the only way to even have a chance of getting value from plus.”

So you stopped buying games for the chance theyll be free on PS+ and thats the only way of getting value from it? Your logic is flawed because either:

    A) your waiting for AAA games you stopped buying to become free on PS+, but you are complaining about not getting AAA games so how is not buying the games helping your value?

    B) you stopped buying indie games as those are the ones that ARE becoming free according to you, which would make since as that would give “value” but that would beam you BUY these games you say “sucks”

  • (A) sounds unlikely as it makes no sense so are you saying you actually buy these Indies that you say “sucks” and now dont in order to get value from your PS+.

Sounds to me like you complain just to complain. Which is proven by looking at your trohies, playing almost all of these “indies” that “suck” and 100% them. for someone who hates them you sure play a lot of them.

But hey thats your right you complain if you want to, you just seem silly complaining about something you spend so much time playing :) and hey if you really dont like them and every time you 100% these games your crying in agony then stop paying for PS+, stop buying indies, and let the ones who arent afaid to say these games are amazing and are woth way more then even their original price play and enjoy them :) that’ll show that you serious about what you say. Or be a Band Wangoning Poser. either ones fine, its your choice, this is america afterall :)

  • Glad Witcher 3 releases this month because I would be pretty disappointed gamer if not. Guacamelee is a great game….two years ago.

  • Not bad. I liked it!

  • I would like to see a balance, not just indie or AAA (i understand both sides telling about how bad/great this is and no there are not 5 free games u rent them, plus many would buy just multyplayer for less if there was such a thing ) i pretty much like indie games but this is to much. And i somewhat fell like they are trying to spend less on games so they go for indie ( they pay much less for indie so they trow us the games like they dont care) Anyway i hope they make ot fair not full indie cuz its cheap or one month full of good games cuz yolo.
