Another collection of excellent games joins PlayStation Plus this May, and you’ve come to the right place for details!
Let’s begin with a fan-favorite game with a crazy colorful art style: Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on PS4. Is that title a mouthful? Sure! A mouthful of delicious hand-to-hand combat! Bask in Guacamelee’s mix of platforming, puzzle solving, and exquisite video game humor.
Also up for grabs on PS4: Ether One. This new, first-person puzzle game tasks you with restoring the broken minds of the mentally ill through surreal puzzles. Can you unravel their tangled lives and also find answers to your own desperate questions?
Other games this month include the critically acclaimed indie project The Unfinished Swan, solar speed-demon Race the Sun, and the calmly explorative Hohokum, all of which are available on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. As well as the oddly charming Murasaki Baby, available on PS Vita.
These games will be free for Plus members starting on May 5th. Would you like to know more? Hit the video below, and hear me rant about video games for a few minutes!

Race the Sun (PS4 | PS3 | PS Vita)

This minimalist racing game forces you to compete against the setting sun in what is both a deeply calming and nail-biting session. That may sound like a contradiction, but it’s true!
Hohokum (PS4 | PS3 | PS Vita)
Free for PS Plus members
A supremely relaxing game that’s bursting at the seams with personality. Explore a crazy, colorful world, meet new friends, and just let go as you listen to the incredible soundtrack by a collection of talented artists.
Murasaki Baby (PS Vita)

A strange puzzle game with an eerie atmosphere. Players guide Baby through a nightmarish landscape in search of home. It’s cute, and also a little weird.

/sigh why even bother with free games this month seriously, wtf is this crap.
I made the switch last fall from Xbox to Playstation. Love the console. But these cap indie games that month after month most of the time, extremely disappointing to see. The only games I can say I’ve played and enjoyed are Infamous First Light, Transistor, and The Swapper. Everyone has their own opinions, likes and dislikes, but honestly I feel the mature adult gamer the selection over the past six months has felt very childish. I appreciate free games but don’t promote it as anything but free games that would otherwise be $5 or $10 (over priced) indies. On Xbox I was getting quality games but here, mostly just monthly disappointment. Last spring and summer had great games I missed out on, too bad there’s nothing like those coming up now a days…
..
@232 Rensole – Wow, u take the time to complain that we need better ggames like “the binding of Isaac”, we got the binding of Isaac a few months ago for free on plus for the ps4 and vita I believe. I LOVE this list of freebies.
Not a great month for me, but that’s mainly because I own two of the games on the list already (Guacamelee STCE via Xbox One Games with Gold and Race the Sun I already purchased on PSN months ago). I’m interested in finally seeing what this Unfinished Swan is all about and I’ve heard good things about Ether One. Not really interested in Murasaki Baby or Hohokum, but I’ll at least add them to my queue. Anyone complaining about this month being lame needs to check out next month’s Games with Gold offering. REALLY, REALLY lame by comparison.
wow..glad i bought the unfinished swan a month ago when it was on sale..oh wait..no im not glad -_-
Another month of “free” garbage. Nothing is free you pay for Playstation plus. When do we get drove club we were promised? or even knack? Japan got knack for free the month it came out. I’m tired of these ugly 3rd party games. When do we actually get VALUE for supporting playstation? Even Xbox does better with their free games and they manage to have way better online servers unlike the crap ones Sony still hasn’t fixed. I can’t even use share play half the time since patch 2.5 now and my speeds are excellent. This is the last year of ps+ I’m buying.
@252 and many others – U guys claim we haven’t gotten any AAA’s for soo long? Last month Dishonered and Killzone Mercenary were AAA ggames. These are NOT “crap indies” take a look at the meta scores for some of these games like Guacamelee and Swan. When we get indies they are AAA indies, top notch games like Transistor, Rogue Legacy, Guacamelee, Outlast, Velocity 2x, Oddworld New n Tasty (a 40$ ggame, not 5$), Valient Hearts, Resogun, Strider, Dragon’s Crown, Hotline, Ollieollie2, Binding of Isaac. That is a murderers row of indie gold.
This lineup of games is outstanding. I will be the first to admit that I have done my fair share of nay-saying here on the blog when I have felt that Sony needs a bit of calling-out. Still, PS Plus is hands-down the best deal in video games. Can’t wait for May!
Wow really may is my birthday month and i wanted something good but all these games suck i hope i get something good for my birthday to play
but i enjoyed POWERS. waiting for second season!
I am looking forward to Guacamelee. Hopefully some of the other games are enjoyable.
Awesome lineup, lots of PS4 love with the crossbuy titles. Have been looking forward to Unfinished Swan, and Ether looks great. I already bought Guacamele for the Vita and beat it, im sure people are gonna enjoy that one.
Oh, look. Five “Very Dissatisfied”s and one “Somewhat Dissatisfied”. (That one is Guacamelee, because I have a PS3 and a Vita, but not a PS4. If I got a Vita version, it’d be a “Somewhat Satisfied”.)
Funny how we recently got Injustice (PS4), Dishonered, Thief, Killzone Mercenary. Before that we got inFAMOUS First Light, Prototype 2, Crysis 3, Deadspace 3, PlayStation All-Stars ect. This list is elegant and wonderful, the cod crowd is displeased, but then again they have no idea who Lorne Lanning is..
I must say the amount is good but nothing that interests me. More puzzles and indies. I read a report that they thought about releasing Knack and Need for Speed and I was excited…. then I came here. Well maybe next month I’ll get games that I like for you indies and puzzle lovers… congrats you win again for the 19th month in a row. Oh well I have MK X and MLB to play at least.
Nice games this month will be downloading all of them. It’s great that I get to save all this money on these games. How about resident evil 6 next month for ps3.
And before you indies lovers jump on my back let me say this… I have my taste you have yours. I am not obligated to like the same games you like no more than you are to like what I like. I view these types of games for a new gen console as trash. I will say that making all of them cross buy games adds value if you have a ps3, vita, and ps4. I’ll admit that. However I read a report they was going to release Knack and Need for Speed so these titles compared to them for me is a disappointment. Hopefully Sony will release Driveclub soon and games I deem worth my $50 yearly rentals. Until then nothing for me to download here. I will go back to MK X and GTA 5
Sure I’d of loved AC Rogue, Metal Gear Rising, Helldivers, Oreshika, Dying Light, and Sniper Elite 3. That is not realistic and I am very happy with the quality titles we got. Honestly, I preordered and bought most of the AAA games that I really wanted anyway. I enjoy broadening my horizon with the interesting games from +. If u compare the PS plus free games and games with gold over their lifetimes there is no comparison. Oh, and also we get two more games for Vita.
WOW, I’m impressed. Nice bundle of PS Plus PS4 games. Thanks.
I apologize for my ealier statement. That was incredibly rude and spoiled of me and totally out of character, but this coming line-up is really bad. These retro styled/indie games are an aquired taste that unfortunately most of us do not have. It’s a disappointment to see the list full of them each month. Please try to do a little better next month. A loyal Sony customer since 1993.
It’s funny at the ppl wanting NFS Rivals and Knack so badly that they are almost 2yrs old, dirt cheap, and u still haven’t bought them? I bought my ps4 @ launch and I also bought Knack and Rivals around launch BC I wanted to play them. If u want a game then buy it. Everyone bashed Knack when it released and now u guys all want it for plus. BTW, Knack is far better than reviews claimed.
I see the usual “complaining about complainers” posts.
Pretty nice list, but where is Driveclub?
Another month of indie garbage, PS+ is a joke.. where is drive club??
These PS+ games are literally getting more pathetic each and every month.
I read a recent story that the German PS blog leaked Knack, Rayman Legends, Need For Speed Rivals, and a few other games for May. Man, I was really hoping for ANY ONE of those games, instead just more lo-fi indie crap (mind you Unfinished Swan was awesome 3 years ago when it came out).
@272 & 273 – Driveclub is sitting in my ps4 BD drive and it is also on the shelf @ GameStop and on psn, that is where Driveclub is. I really wanted to play Driveclub too so I preordered and bought it and have loved it ever since. Since I don’t mind supporting awesome developers for games I want I tend to buy most of my hotly anticipated games. Driveclub is the truth, better than pgr racing.
Yeah not impressed with PS plus so far. Been a PS4 owner since December of last year. I know the PS4 library is somewhat limited but come on! Nothing but Indie games for the last 3 months. I’ll check out next month’s games before renewing but probably won’t bother.
terrible month for the PS4 AGAIN and AGAIN.
First time where nothing on the list has me excited. Wanted to try a couple of them though. Race to the Sun is a popular store demo title, so I have seen it a couple of times, but hesitated on buying it. Now I will finally get to try it out.
PS plus is amazing thank you so much Sony for the incredible value. Can’t wait to play Race the Sun on my Vita it is perfect for it. Never played Swan but I look forward to trying the best version. Guacamelee was awesome on Vita I will definitely replay turbo on ps4. Almost bought Murasaki Baby it looks so gorgeously twisted. Ether One I heard was to be a Morpheus title but it’s setting & subject matter are definitely for me. Hohokum is great if ur a fan of That Game Company, soundtrack is so good I bought the vinyl edition, meet honeyslug and visit the guano factory.
Every month I hope for a game on the ps4 that’s at least mostly known to everyone, but instead we get these crappy 2d indie games that the majority of us don’t even know & care about. What ever happened to ps plus driveclub? We got pretty much robbed of that and left with 2d sidescrollers that look like they should be played on a ps2. Sony make a new service where it’s $30 AU for a year only to play online, because $70 AU isn’t worth it when you give us these boring games every month. Very disappointed.
I love how everyone is moaning about not getting AAA games.
The thing is, that’s your fault for not buying the game and supporting the devs that made it.
That’s what PS Plus is, it’s promoting games that people forget about.
So don’t you dare not give these games a go…. Because they’re FUN.
LMAO they do not even try anymore. Indie garbage galore, can’t wait till next months joke of a lineup too!
Great Line up!
Hohokum and Guacamellee!
I would be excited for this if I didn’t already have half the games, and the other half I can’t play. Got Unfinished Swan at release, I think, and t’was noice. Got Race The Sun on sale, and my sis & her boy had their kicks. Got Hohokum, but so far we’ve used the promo XMB theme more, heh.
I’d love to [re]play Guacamelee, but only have a PS3 (played it during PS Now’s earlier beta; please, instate a system where we can transfer save data…unless, does that have Cross-Save? Does that work between Now and local?). Ether One I don’t even have on PC, but again, a loss. And Murasaki Baby caught me from the Blog posts, but doesn’t look to be PSTV compatible? Seriously, Sony, get on that (Brave Story: New Traveler is still not playable except maybe by installing it first on a Vita…which I don’t have.)
Like seriously?
Last playable game for PS4 was injustice, since then- nothing!
Give as like The walking dead season 1 or something that
people actually like, not that indy crap all the time!
Nothing against these games, but i am just not interested in the type of games that are being offered. And the problem is this has been the case for the past few months. I dont think we have had a decent AAA title since Injustice, Hoping that changes soon or i am going to think of unsubscribing. And don’t make an argument that the games are free so we shouldn’t complain, they are not free, we are all paying a subscription and we expect to get something out of it. Im glad you guys are promoting indies but you have to realize they aren’t for everyone.
It sucks again this month….still waiting for greatness known as triple AAA for ps4 and jrpg for vita sigh
can’t remember when i actually downloaded something from the plus-offerings. i can’t see any more “platformers”, “puzzlers” or “platform-puzzlers”. geez. also, i don’t like the loading and startup times of simple indy games. they are loading up like a major aaa release. and then you get a very poor free to play crap. on my tablet this is acceptable, not on my highend stationary console. ps4 is still number one, but this shoving of indy titles down our throats doesn’t sit very well.
Like at least 30% of the people on here said f your Indie titles. Offer me an online only subscription without the free games. I’m sick of the trashy games that have been offered the last good game was first light. Even the discounted games suck too. Offer an online only PS plus option and I’ll be interested I’m tired of paying for **** I don’t want.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
great sony !!
eh, its ok, its not exactly what will get people to switch. the PS4 shouldn’t have AAA games as its new so decent indies are a good test for people. the crippler s the PS3 as millions still own one and haven’t upgraded yet, so short changing them isnt good business. he ps3 has an extensive library, not even AAA games, just good quality. go to a gamestop and look at ho many games are sittin there for weeks, never bought. the vita needs power games to drive sales, half the reason people wont buya vita is he lack of quality games tbey see in marketing. I feel Sony is really dropping the ball here marketing wise. theyre losing in the long term, saved by the fact that Microsoft is just as terrible. Nintendo is nice to customers, follow them. when half yiur games are never touched you hav a problem. but then they’ve screwed up PS Now also so…
to be honest they should atleast give us every 3-6 month one bigger retail game like knack, sherlock, wolfenstein, sleeping dogs, trials at this point.
thats all the complain about nothing more or less.
I just bought Super-Turbo-Championship edition of Guacamelee on Steam >.<
YAY! More indy games I’ve never heard of and could give 2 poo poos about.
Well 0 games i want for the ps3 this month. another bad month. regret renewing my membership. Won’t make that mistake again.
Wow all the games this month are complete garbage. Not a single good one. How about some real games, ones are are not only build good, but are interesting.
Why not save some time and just put all platformers on plus for the weekend. Seriously? This is what we get? Unfinished swan looks alright I guess… Ether one might worth a try. PS4 doesnt seem to have very much full games. PS3 had at least 3-4 since i been back on plus back Nov.
What’s happened to PS+? It used to be such an amazing service and now it’s a bunch of indie **** every month. Really seems like now that PS+ is required to play online on PS4 there’s been a drastic dip in “free” game quality for even PS3 and Vita. I’m not even sure it’s worth renewing at this point.
The games are free. Get over yourselves.
