The Drop

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the legendary PlayStation baseball series. MLB 15 The Show steps up to the plate on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita this week. Baseball fans, rejoice.

In MLB 15 The Show, players are once again treated to one of the most authentic baseball experiences in gaming, with jaw-dropping stadiums and player models, a tremendous collection of modes, and several features that are brand new to the series. San Diego Studio has included licensed equipment to enhance that characteristic authenticity, as well as implement year-to-year saves. The team is also introducing iconic baseball legends from all 30 teams, spanning 70 years of the sport’s history.

And if baseball isn’t your bag, don’t sweat: the highly-anticipated Axiom Verge drops onto PS4 this week. Developed single-handedly by indie designer Tom Happ, this modern interpretation of the Metroidvania is deeply inspired by classic games, but pushed into overdrive with mind-bending puzzles and tons of weapons. If you want a great example of what a single, passionate game developer can do, look no further. Plus, it’s part of Spring Fever with a 10% PS Plus discount at launch. Bonus!

  • My gawd, how long is it going to take for Dark Souls to go digital? Guess I’ll pick up ST in the meantime

  • @46 Not sure about you, but I actually WANT the anime games even moreso than AAA titles.

  • Really looking forward to Paperbound, since me and my family already have lots of fun with Towerfall, and we need some other game of the same style. Are there any chances tha Paperbound will enter on the IGC next month? Thanks!

  • Hi, just wondering if there will be a preload for Toukidon?

Also, the PSN store doesn’t give an option to buy the full game, it just downloads the demo even on the full game page. Any fix for that before Tues?

    Thanks for your time!

  • Glad to see another PSone Classic, but where are the PSP?
Media Go is still down after what? A month or two? There is no need to make a past product obsolete, as it will do so naturally in time.

By doing what you do, you will lose a few more customers that might have picked up a Vita when it finally died.
That is if you let them bring their old digital games, to play while choosing their new ones.

    That’s the beauty about games.
I have played since 8 bit, and I NEVER grow weary of them, or buying new ones, unless some corporation ruins them.

  • What’s the price of Toukiden: Kiwami?

    Is it a cross buy?

  • @46 Quit crying and playing a victim to Sony! There is no way Sony will support the Vita and it is you the GAMERS fault for being picky about which AAA games on the Vita you should get vs the ones that do not appeal to your tastes. It is also Sony’s fault for not keeping up with the promises, therefore it is BOTH!

I suggest giving up on the Vita and start flocking towards the 3DS. You are nothing short of being bias about this…

  • Noooooooo>…….< Why no physical for Toukiden?!!!

  • both triple pack (6 games in total) were available through PS Plus

  • Axiom Verge and I think its Paperbound…looks good to me. Wish the descriptions would line up with the game screen shots. Not too tough to figure out which is which but it would be better.

MLB looks great being I am a life long fan of baseball, don’t play the video games but it looks impressive and seems to get visually and functionally improved year-to-year.

Great release week, as it looks to have something for just about everyone. Thank you for the update.

  • @8: Yakuza 5 is confirmed for US, no word on Yakuza Zero.

@36: Only you and that other person demand the sales be shown. A far cry from “everyone”.

  • @Ryan Clements said: “As I’ve told you in the past, the choice to keep the Drop just about new games (and give folks something to read on the weekend) was a long-standing team decision. I took your feedback to my colleagues and we decided to keep The Drop as is (for now).”

What you told us in the past (last week actually) was simply “I will discuss with the team”. You did not explain anything about it being “a long-standing team decision” to “give folks something to read on the weekend” (nor why the team stubbornly believes pricing is not pertinent information that any folks reading The Drop on the weekend would be interested in). And you certainly did not come back and inform us that you have discussed with your colleagues and decided to keep it as it. (This is another example of those many things you said you will check but never update us.)

You also said “I’m always happy to answer inquiries when/where I can, but unfortunately a lot of information isn’t available to me (especially on a weekend when offices are closed).” How about you PROVE IT? Continue to answer comments on Monday, where such excuses do not apply any more. And actually give useful replies/information beyond BEYOND ^_^

  • While I don’t fault Ryan for it, as it happens, but it does seem that the majority of times there is extra information to get during the week, that it doesn’t get relayed back to the thread. It has happened, just not everytime.

That said, there is a post related to the information that was asked. I don’t think people need ot come to this thread and give lnks to the post that answers that question.

  • Look, I’m as equally frustrated with Sony’s silence on many things like price of new items on the PS Store, etc, but you have to realize…these bloggers are really just here for PR for Sony. They’re not much into answering logistical questions. I know. I’ve posted many questions here and none have ever been answered. I realize now that it’s silly to even try anymore.

If you’re seeking any answers from Sony to anything other than the most simplistic of queries, you will almost certainly not get those answers here.

Does it stink? Sure. But Sony has proven they don’t really care all that much, as long as the $$$’s keep rollin’ in.

  • We do not expect Ryan to know all the answers. We expect him to know people who know the answers. And we expect him to help bring questions from the community (ie. potential paying customers) to those people and get the necessary answers, which will potentially result in more sales or less dissatisfied customers. (If I go to a local game shop and have questions about something they are selling, I’d ask them – cos I’ll be paying money to them – instead of going to Facebook or somewhere to ask the game’s developer/publisher. Certainly Sony is in a better position to get answers than an individual customer.)

When someone hands me a blurb to publish, if I am doing my job right (instead of being a photocopier), if I have any interest or passion in gaming at all, I will be asking a lot of questions too (does it have cross-platform play, does it import my save file from previous game, will there be a Vita version, can I play it with my friend from another region, will there be pre-ordering/preloading…). I would have already known enough about the game without having my customers ask me. (Hey, if he wants, we can build a questionaire/checklist for his suppliers to answer before handing in a blurb.)

  • seriously at this point, who will buy ps3 triple pack games?
    It seems useless to me.

  • PSN is a very outdated network if you compare it to Steam.

game developers/publishers still need to wait for Tuesday to start selling their games unlike Steam that they can choose any day of the week to publish games. popular games of the week and of the month still need Sony to update the ranking manually. on Steam, games will be ranked by real-time ranking so people can see what’s the most popular games at the moment.

people can also write reviews on Steam. on PSN we can only hit a like button and doesn’t even have the right to thumb down those horrible games. every game has its own forum where the players can talk about it, submit a guide/walkthrough, share their screenshots, etc.

please, Sony, make PSN the better network.

and the current PS Store is so horrible. I’m not sure if you fired the programmer who made it yet but if you didn’t you should fire him now.

  • IMHO, the “prices on the Drop” issue is dead. This always was and always will be a “this week’s releases with maybe a blurb and a pic” post. Oh yeah, demos and betas too.

But I agree with others wanting this post to be more interactive, and to be more in general. If offices aren’t open on the weekends, then it’s not too unreasonable to ask why we can’t have answers on Monday when they are open. I can’t imagine Ryan sees much incentive to do this when it wouldn’t be universally appreciated, but I would hope he can separate diehard critics from those who would simply like a bit more info on these games. Additional info may build interest and increase sales, especially the all-important day-one sales.

So buy your PSN cards (maybe don’t redeem them right away; you can always sell them to a buddy later). Maybe keep a few dollars in your PSN wallet for those flash sales. And don’t expect the “prices” crusade to go anywhere.

But do keep pushing for more info and transparency. I like the idea about submitting a questionnaire to each publisher. After all, the company selling the game has all the answers and should be able to provide them well in advance of a game’s release.

  • BTW, I agreed with those who lamented the untimely death of Monday sale posts. That was an issue where I thought more common ground could be reached between critics and Sony staff, but ultimately that fell apart as well.

On the other hand, we should all remember how inaccurate those posts always were (and still are). The prices often didn’t match the ones in the store update post or the ones offered in the store itself. The problem then, as now, was that these errors and omissions were seldom fixed or even acknowledged. Adding prices to this Drop post would add even another layer of confusion to what is already a mess.

Maybe we should focus more, as some already do, on accuracy of info and making sure prices match everywhere they are posted.

And, you know, are actually honored.

  • Sure took a while for Run Sackboy Run to come to the vita, was out on iOS almost a year ago if I remember correctly.

  • Axiom freaking Verge!!!!

  • Why does it bother everyone so much that Sony doesn’t put the prices? Yeah it’s not hard to list them but everyone is so upset as if you can buy it right now if they revealed the price. Sony is wrong for not listing them but nobody should be that upset about it.

  • All this crying and babyish whining over…prices???? Realy?
Its not hard to pretty much guess what any given game will cost, just sayin’

  • I’m curious- does the developer set the price of a game or Sony? For example, I had been very excited to get “La Mulana-Ex” a couple of weeks ago. Then I was stunned when it hit the PSN Store.

$19.99! For an indie platformer that was barely more than 200 megabytes. I found that shocking.

The prices on here are sometimes ridiculous, which is why I mainly wait for sales.

It would be nice for Sony to show more transparency in this area but, as I said before, don’t hold your breath.

  • Run Sackboy!Run!….ha nice and finally,I’ve been waiting for it.Can’t wait to try it out, hope it’s as good as I think it is.
Something to make up for the awful LBP 3.

  • @74: neither, it’s the publisher, which may be the developer, Sony, or someone else. Do you really not know how this stuff works?

  • It’s now Monday, and wouldn’t you know it: Ryan Clements checked something out and got back to us when he could. (After all, the people to ask weren’t around over the weekend but are around today.)

It’s a reply to comment #2. Now, it’s not very specific. But it’s reasonable to assume that’s because the people he asked had no further info.

Apologies if this isn’t the first time a question was asked Sunday and answered on Monday. Here’s hoping it’s not the last.

So, thanks Ryan. Keep it up. :)

BTW, maybe there should be a slight structural change around here to alert us of updated posts or posts with new official replies. Just a thought. Cheers.

  • @76- it’s not something I actively think about. All I know is some of these prices are really unrealistic. $19.99 for a borderline AAA title on the Vita….ok. $19.99 for a tiny Indie platformer….laughable.

  • Shadow Tower!?!?!
Let the From Software Nostalgia begin:)
    Kings field maybe? #oneday lol.

  • I know you said the way this industry works isn’t something that you actively think about. That being said, I’ll say this in the nicest way possible. The cost of making games is enormous. It’s even greater when you take into account things like dev kits (which are required for anyone looking to publish on PS Vita, PS3, or PS4) as they can range in the 10’s of thousands. Also, take into account that these smaller indie titles are being made as a passion project by these developers, meaning they have maybe 3-4 people working pretty much non-stop. It’s really not all that much to ask $19.99 for games like this. However, if they’re not games that you’ll enjoy, obviously stay away.

  • @80- you make some valid points. I don’t mean to imply that those indies don’t “deserve” the money. All I’m saying is that I feel the prices for those games should be somewhat consistent (and for the most part, they are). I’ve been on here for about 2 years and I’ve noticed that the indie games usually are priced right around $10 or less. Sometimes, if it’s a relatively expansive game, it’ll head upwards a little bit.

In the two years I’ve been shopping on PSN Store, I don’t think I ever remember an Indie game being sold for $19.99. Even a relatively big game like Spelunky was $14.99, I believe. I think most folks would say that $19.99 for a short 209-megabyte game is a pretty hard sell. “La Mulana-Ex” looks like good fun but I’m certain more players on here are, like me, waiting til it comes down to a more reasonable price point.

Having said that, I know there are those who make day-one purchases to support the Indies at full price, and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, I admire it. I simply like to be a bit smarter of a buyer and I know if I wait, I can get all the titles I want, at a significant discount.

  • @82 There are actually quite a few indie games at $19.99 and even more on the PS Store.

    https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/indies/cid=STORE-MSF77008-9_INDIEGAMES%7C%7Cprice~desc?emcid=ps-ga-876&utm_medium=Paid_Search_{ps}&utm_campaign=Games&utm_source=Google&utm_term=ps-ga-876&utm_content=Brand

As with any game out there, some are worth the price and some aren’t. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to tell which will be worth it to each individual. That being said, you’re all but guaranteed that the indies games will go on sale at some point in their life. So, if it’s a game you feel you can wait for a sale, then I suppose that there’s no harm in doing so.

  • Watched some more footage of Axiom Verge, and I finally get it. Excited for this one, though sad that Vita version isn’t available at the same time.

  • According to the PSN store, the release date for Toukiden Kiwami reads as April 28 and only lists the demo as available for download. Any reason why?

  • Cannot wait for Toukiden: Kiwami!

  • Where is MXGP compact to ps4?

  • What system is MX vs ATV coming out on??

  • Completely disappointed with MLB The Show 15 for PS3. You can’t see the licensed equipment during gameplay. Sony should have done a better job with the PS3 version. I’m completely disappointed.
