While developing the PlayStation 4 system, our hardware and software teams relied on feedback from our community of developers. The result is the most innovative and forward-thinking gaming console in the market today. Since launch, PlayStation has continued that trend of listening to feedback by bringing some of the most highly requested features from the PlayStation Nation to PS4 with each of our system software updates. When we unveiled PS4 two years ago, we announced Suspend/Resume, a feature that would enable PS4 users to jump in and out of their games faster than ever. This has been a feature gamers have been excited about since then, and today I am honored to officially confirm that system software update 2.50, “Yukimura,” will soon deliver Suspend/Resume, as well as a number of other requested features to PS4.
Suspend/Resume, which will be supported by nearly all PS4 titles, will create an atmosphere where your games are immediately available at any time — just pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games. When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off. Spend less time getting into your games and more time playing them.
Here are some of the other highly requested new features and changes coming soon in “Yukimura:”
- Sub-account to Master account Upgrade: Users with a sub-account will now be able to upgrade to a master account directly from their PS4 when they turn 18, removing restrictions for chat, enabling users to fund their own wallet, make purchases and more. Currently, users can upgrade their sub-accounts online at https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/.
- Facebook Friend Search: Gamers globally have jumped into PS4 as a redefined social gaming experience and connecting with friends over the network is a huge part of what makes the PS4 community so special. PlayStation now lets you go even bigger by connecting with your Facebook friends on PS4 using your linked account. Search for Facebook friends who are PlayStation Network members and build on the foundation of Friends you already have in your list.
- Remote Play & Share Play at 60 fps: For games that support 60 fps, the ability to customize the frame rate of Remote Play and Share Play will be added with “Yukimura.” Play to your bandwidth strengths and use this option to stream gameplay at 60 or 30 fps when using Remote Play or Share Play on supported devices.
- Accessibility Options: “Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make their PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.
- Trophy Improvements: We have received a ton of feedback to improve Trophies. In “Yukimura,” a screenshot will automatically be captured at the moment a Trophy is earned, making it easier than ever for you to share your greatest gaming moments with your friends. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.
- Share Video Clips to Dailymotion: When sharing standout PS4 moments via the Share button on DualShock 4, “Yukimura” will allow players to upload directly to Dailymotion.
Stay tuned for more information on “Yukimura” and, as always, let us know in the comments how we can continue to improve PS4 to make it the best place to play.
I don’t believe this! I’m a gamer who is totally blind, and mostly delve deeply into fighting games and any action game that is simple enough to not need vision to play and I can strategize and figure things out using my brain, which unfortunately limits the options available… but I am beyond delighted to see Sony take disabled gamers into account which is something I have been waiting for years! Thank you for the text to speech… I hope it will open up the entirety of the device to allow us to have as much access and enjoyment as everyone else, and will hopefully be able to incorporate reading aloud ingame text if possible, but I’ll take what I can get. thank you sony!
Wow. Many thanks to all of you responsible for releasing this. There are a lot of huge features in this update and I can’t wait until you implement some of the other major requested features that I’m interested in, including DLNA support.
I am very interested in seeing how the button mapping works since some buttons are pressure sensitive. I drive GT with X and Square, not the triggers (it’s very difficult =P). They’ll probably be restricted since there are no more pressure-sensitive face buttons. It’s about time I buy a wheel I guess.
Anyways, when I get a PS4 later this year I know I’ll have a lot of exciting features to look forward to such as sharing, streaming, and suspend/resume.
Thank you guys! ^_^
@ Khronikos
Indeed.
It’s embarrassing, isn’t it? To know that we share a hobby with these manbabies…
Sends shivers down my spine when I think about it…
You’ve asked several times about what kinds of avatars we’d like. Please, include as many “pop culture” avatars as possible – of necessarily anything game-specific. Also, give us the ability to automatically rotate through a selection of avatars – maybe a different avatar from our pre-selected list each time we turn on the console.
I’ll be honest, though. The only thing I REALLY give a crap about is DLNA support. I can push movies from my phone to my Dish Network hopper, my chromecast, my Amazon fire stick, my Roku box, but I can’t do the same with my PS4. That’s pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourselves for not having this already in the console. And yes, I’ve already seen your response in number 10. With all due respect, that is a very weak response to an item that is of such interest to a huge portion of your users.
Wow lots of replies from the team! Thank you guys!
For those of yu who are curious, “Yukimura” means “Snow Village” in Japanese!
#45 and #49 reflect my own sentiments.
I love the sounds and effects of the anniversary theme and I intend to keep it, but I want to be able to swap out the background image.
And for vita remote play, I really think we should be able to customize controls. Shooting a gun by tapping the rear touch pad just doesn’t work, and developers won’t fix it after it’s been released. Let us customize.
Thanks.
Very great update! Thank you for continuing to improve the PS4 experience.
**Request: One think i’d love is when i view a game in the PS store, that I can see which of my friends has already played it, before I buy and download it myself.** (I know you can see that from the home screen on games you already have. Just want for games i don’t have)
Oh, I almost forgot – and this is another issue that, like the lack of DLNA support, is truly baffling. Where is the freaking PS4 Blu-ray remote!?!? It’s ridiculous that I have to use my game controller for Blu-ray and Netflix control. this is yet another feature that was implemented very well on the ps3 and yet here we sit after well over a year and there’s no word on when it will be implemented for PS4. It’s almost like you guys just don’t care.
hi – i appreciate all of your hard works on the OS but there are some major features Missing .
1. an ability to Add folders , so we can put our games inside them !
2. watching Trophies in Offline Mode ! i guess we really need this one .
and other stuff like video player – DLNA – higher image quality (PNG.) . and queuing for downloads .
thanks.
The entire design of the PDM/XMB or whatever we’re calling it this gen needs a redesign. You like to boast about how this is the most socially connected console, but I feel absolutely disconnected from my friends. With the PS3, you have your massive friends list in a dedicated drop-down that was equal to games and everything else. When you boot your PS3, the first thing you do is look at your friends list. You see who’s online, you take notice of the colors, the avatars, the messages.
You said you don’t want a copy/paste from PS3, but PS3 did it all so much better. PS4’s interface feels like an app. It feels generic.. barebones. And you guys are just gradually adding little things to improve a poor design. I’m in that extreme tier of die-hard PlayStation fans, but nothing about PS4 has really knocked my socks off the way PS3 did. It totally blew me away and up until the end I still considered it to be a super relevant platform.
(continued) As the years go by and we see PS5 and PS6 etc.. (assuming we still get consoles), I am afraid the PS4 will be remembered as a bit of a dud in the PlayStation line. Yeah there are some great games and sure there will be more, yeah there will be Morpheus, but it’s just not as strong as the previous 3 consoles. It saddens me greatly. You need to do more. Give us a fresh take on the XMB, don’t hide the friends list. We have to do more navigating on the PS4 to get to all the same stuff we had on PS3. Much more.
Getting SERIOUSLY upset that we can’t get support for DNLA streaming of music and videos, and support for media remotes such as my Harmony remote! My PS4 would get a lot more use just from the latter but especially if we could get both. It would be the perfect console. Xbox has been doing major catch up on software, and while in trying to not buy both this generation, ya’ll are starting to push me in that direction.
Useless stuff, give us DLNA and BLUTOOTH support. Not another paid service to “organize”. I don’t know how many usb ports your PS4 has but mine only has 2 and my PS gold headset dongle (RETARDED PS DEVS DECIDE NOT TO GIVE PS4 BLUTOOTH SUPPORT)and the other slot is taken up by my keyboard. Nowhere to plug in my usb flash drive to listen to my music.
And people, WHY do we have 8 pages of everyone repeating all the same things that were noted in the first 15 replies? Yes, DLNA is a big one, but Sony is well aware that people have been demanding it since PS4’s launch. If you don’t have something new to add, then stop wasting space because no one who matters is going to notice people who are actually contributing important notes.
Speaking of which – There has of course been much talk about MP3 support. What I would like to ADD to that is that we need proper importing and playlists. When I played Gran Turismo 5, I loved having my custom playlist to listen to. As it stands, we obviously can’t do that, and what’s worse is that game developers have no reason or way to add that type of support from within their games’ audio settings. If, in a couple of years PS4 finally gets there, we’re going to have years worth of games that won’t be compatible.
And back to the complainers about deleting 1%+ trophy progress: That is a no-no. As Scott explained, that would give us no security if someone else were to get on our accounts and mess with our things, or if we mistakenly deleted the wrong trophy set. That is why it will rightfully never happen.
Maybe can we get an update on the colors we use for messaging (Blue,Green) I would like to use PINK Etc etc
Looks like a solid update!
I’m still waiting for the obvious updates though and maybe some extra features I didn’t even know I needed. ;)
I am still waiting to where you can assign colors to accounts for the LED on the controller, sonething small but it bugs when when first person is blue and second person is red. And red is my favorite color and for my girlfriend her favorite color is purple and to get that you must have 4 controllers.
Notification when friends sign on and DLNA.
I know you want “ps4 and not last gen versions” of this stuff, but I say you should prioritize getting SOME form of these features that we have come to expect last gen and implement them BEFORE moving into the future with exciting and truly new features. Obviously, I want all of these things, but I want the things I’ve come to expect and been waiting the longest time for first.
At least those who have wanted suspend/resume since the reveal finally get it. Hopefully the next big update these things I want are implemented then.
How about you fix the whats new feed that has blank profile pictures for friends and under who plays this. Still no avatars for ps4 users what a shame.
Ugh from rest mode, no thanks. Who actually uses rest mode?
The only thing I want is USB video playback. The PS3 had it so it can’t be too difficult to implement aswell as add mkv support as well right? Most of this other stuff seems pointless to me.
Awesome news guys! One of the top requests from all of us is the ability to hide offline! XBOX and Steam have allowed this for years! PLEASE Bring this feature to PS4! I want to be able to say I am BUSY or choose HIDE OFFLINE.
THANK YOU
Wow… suspend / resume…… SO useful on a console that I can boot up and launch a game in like 30 seconds it’s so fast compared to my PS3…. lol
anyway…..
And all the people whining about MP4’s and videos or whatever and dlna…….. if you can afford a PS4 then go buy a cheap ass laptop…… THAT’s WAHT THEY’RE FOR.
Only things I can think of (having just woken up) that I really care to see is the ability to sort the trophy list alphabetically like I can on the PS3 so I’m not scrolling all over the damn place looking for a specific game for whatever reason. It’s a simple thing…. the PS3 can…. why can’t the PS4?
The other thing is the Library. I know it serves as the download list and a library (really nice when you have more then what can fit in the side scrolling menu). That said, I’d like the ability to DELETE things from the “list” that I don’t ever care to download ever again. Like the dang E3 2014 app rofl…..
nice!!!!
CHANGE COUNTRY IN YOUR PSN PROFILE
CHANGE NAME OF YOUR PSN PROFILE
Any plans for “Display total time spent on ps4” feature?
I’d love to see the following:
Video Chat
Restore PSN game purchases from PS3, I have quite a few games i purchased via PS Plus that i would like to play as i never got round to playing them on the PS3
@KyleHbocc – Everyone who knows better. ALWAYS use rest mode instead of turning your PS4 off. Your saves will upload, and anything that auto-downloads – like pre-ordered games and game updates – will be finished when you get on again.
What about the ability to play the games you download, without a internet connection to verify like in PS3, i said that because in my area i lost the connection constantly and almost all the games i have are digital i would love to see this on PS4
For the “Trophy Improvement” part where it auto snaps a screenshot every trophy, Will there be an option to turn that off and or just make it so it does for different trophy classes? (Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum)
Thank you for the suspend/resume. My next annoyance in dealing with games is having apps like Netflix causing the main game to be shut down. The PS4 reserves gigs for “system resources”. Their should be no reason apps can’t run in that memory and leave the game alone.
Does the update also present the automatic trophy synchronization? It is important for me to automatically sync a trophy by the exact time i get it…
Really looking forward to the upcoming update. Especially the accessibility options. What I’m really looking for however, is an update to the home screen. The UI, while elegant in some aspects, leaves much to be desired in my eyes. I try to stick to digital purchases only, however in doing so I’ve had to put up with an incredibly cluttered home screen. My game tiles are scattered across a long line, often split up by tiles I never use, such as TV. There’s no organization to it.
At the very least I’d like my games to be the first tiles to appear. The library does little to solve this problem either, as under the section ‘games’ I have the BBC listed which I’m unable to remove.
I’m really looking for a better way to organize my home screen. I’d like to see the home screen become a truly personal space. Someone who lives and breathes indie games? A home screen filled with a vertically scrolling wall of indie games. A fan of FPS? A home screen filled with FPS firstly and the rest following.
Whether the solution is folders, or a better way to fill the screen with your favourite tiles, please consider such an update in the future. I know I’m not the only one who has been clamoring for a better layout.
Thanks,
deleting 0% trophies is a great start.. but we also need the ability to delete any trophy listing due to some games not being completable for various reasons i.e.. server shutdown
The update sounds great, especially suspend/resume. That is one of my favorite things about the vita, especially for playing Disgaea and roaming through the item worlds.
Custom Avatars, and wall papers would be great. I get that Sony makes money off selling themes and avatars, but letting me customize my experience and how I share with my friends should be paramount. If I want an avatar or background that I made myself I should be able to do that.
Also, changing our user ID for in game play would be nice, when I’m playing Helldiver or Diablo or any other game, I don’t necessarily want to be seen as Tony_Films.
One final thing that I think would be a great improvement would be to hide my online status. I don’t always want my friends to know I am playing. I often want to be left alone while playing.
@Re-versed, I can’t imagine how that would ever be important. Your trophies show the date and time that you acquired them, regardless of when you sync; That is what is important.
Notification when friends go online please and how about being able to record at 1080p / 60 frames per second.
@pantheman16
It is important cause it shows up a trophies in the whats new section by the time you syncronize it and not the time you get them…
@pantheman
Sorry about my english there…
Whats the point of whats new if the trophies you syncronize are one week old?
will the ps4 ever get the feature where you can connect your phone or android and it will read your data like the ps3 did ?and will you be able to copy it to your ps4 i know you have where if you have a usb stick it will read music i want it to be able to copy it.
Can I change ps4 interface controls without controls of games?
Custom folders
DLNA
Friends Online/offline notification and custom sub-group friend list sorting
*****Appear offline option*****
Local and external music & video playback, with more codecs supported than PS3
External HDD support for both backups and running games
Custom wallpaper
Trophy sorting
*****Auto sync trophies*****
Offline trophy list
Make pancakes and hash browns
PLEASE SONY make it happen. It’s been over a year.
Hi!
Nice update indeed! Buț, what news about the lifting of the 1GB limit in the Cloud for the savegames? They are getting bigger and bigger. And please rethink and redesign the UI for managing the savegames like copying the files to USB.
Love seeing trophy cleanup is on its way! Wondering if there could be an easier way to backup save data by selecting all in one go instead of one by one?
Thanks for addressing DLNA in #10
My second most wanted feature is PS Classics support.
Awesome keep up the great work guys and keep the awesome updates coming.
Please add following features too in future updates.
– External HDD Support
– 60 FPS lock on all games (Pretty please, I’m sure my PS4 is capable of it) ;)
– Custom desktop wallpaper
Happy to see that you guys are taking in the feedback, please keep being be awesome as always! :D
Hello, will the PlayStation.4 ever get Skype, the feature looks really good on the XBOX one, if there is a possibility will Sony add this feature ?? Also it’s a request to please add Video support to the system, it’s been nearly a year and I’ve been listening to rumors ever since.
Regards
Leeryan
For those complaining about people raising the missing DLNA functionality, you need to remember that if it’s not being mentioned over and over, a corporation will take the stance no one is that bothered and pretend there’s no demand. Until Sony publish that it is in the works, people need to make as much noise as they can.
The 0% trophy clearout is most welcome, presumably this is a PSN/SEN account enhancement and just limited to PS4 titles?
Please add support for Logitech G25 and G27!
Please add a option to choose your tv as a output of the standard ps4 headset that comes with every ps4. I use headphones when i play surten games. On the ps3 i could hang my headset on my shirt and hear the audio (game & Voices) treu my headphones. The standard headset that came with the ps4 doesnt give you a option to choose your tv as a audio output (and its weird/enoying to have to use the earpeace and then wear headphones over it ).
Don’t know if every headset has this problem in general though….
And can you let the ps4 accept your official Sony Playstation 3 headset (wireless earpeace)? I bought 2 of them on ps3 and they are getting useless when you play less on it. Its a official sony playstation headset, so it should be easy to fix i hope.
Would you please update the system to be compatible with the Sony BD Remote Control. Video playback is problematic using the controllers.
