While developing the PlayStation 4 system, our hardware and software teams relied on feedback from our community of developers. The result is the most innovative and forward-thinking gaming console in the market today. Since launch, PlayStation has continued that trend of listening to feedback by bringing some of the most highly requested features from the PlayStation Nation to PS4 with each of our system software updates. When we unveiled PS4 two years ago, we announced Suspend/Resume, a feature that would enable PS4 users to jump in and out of their games faster than ever. This has been a feature gamers have been excited about since then, and today I am honored to officially confirm that system software update 2.50, “Yukimura,” will soon deliver Suspend/Resume, as well as a number of other requested features to PS4.
Suspend/Resume, which will be supported by nearly all PS4 titles, will create an atmosphere where your games are immediately available at any time — just pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games. When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off. Spend less time getting into your games and more time playing them.
Here are some of the other highly requested new features and changes coming soon in “Yukimura:”
- Sub-account to Master account Upgrade: Users with a sub-account will now be able to upgrade to a master account directly from their PS4 when they turn 18, removing restrictions for chat, enabling users to fund their own wallet, make purchases and more. Currently, users can upgrade their sub-accounts online at https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/.
- Facebook Friend Search: Gamers globally have jumped into PS4 as a redefined social gaming experience and connecting with friends over the network is a huge part of what makes the PS4 community so special. PlayStation now lets you go even bigger by connecting with your Facebook friends on PS4 using your linked account. Search for Facebook friends who are PlayStation Network members and build on the foundation of Friends you already have in your list.
- Remote Play & Share Play at 60 fps: For games that support 60 fps, the ability to customize the frame rate of Remote Play and Share Play will be added with “Yukimura.” Play to your bandwidth strengths and use this option to stream gameplay at 60 or 30 fps when using Remote Play or Share Play on supported devices.
- Accessibility Options: “Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make their PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.
- Trophy Improvements: We have received a ton of feedback to improve Trophies. In “Yukimura,” a screenshot will automatically be captured at the moment a Trophy is earned, making it easier than ever for you to share your greatest gaming moments with your friends. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.
- Share Video Clips to Dailymotion: When sharing standout PS4 moments via the Share button on DualShock 4, “Yukimura” will allow players to upload directly to Dailymotion.

Can we have the option to output chat audio through our TV speakers while using a gaming headset?
Will the custom button mapping transfer to Remote Play for games that don’t have custom controls? For example, if I remap my L1/R1 and L2/R2 will that be reflected via Remote Play?

It will be great if we can customize colors, wallpaper background, fonts and stuff like that on our consoles. Plus playing videos and copying pictures from an eternal device like a PenDrive.
It´ll be great too if we can change our country or name once in a while. I have moved to another country and would like to edit that stuff

These look like some great additions, Suspend/Resume is not one I was aware of till now, very excited to try it out. I do have one suggestion, could we get the ability to further lower the brightness of the DS4 Lightbar? A twist of the wrist can result in harsh light hitting my eyes at times.

can we have the ‘delete all’ option for messages, notifications, etc? it would be quicker to delete them. I would like custom avatars, a comment box like the ps3 has but larger.
I also get the weird PS Store loading issue. Sometimes it just sits there loading forever and sometimes it boots up instantly.
Auto trophy syncing and PSN name changes would be nice as well.
Sweet, would be nice if i could put movies and music on my PS4…also, what about media servers?
Awesome. Other improvements that would make PS4 even better:
– Upload our own Custom backgrounds
– Notification options for certain friends (only notified by those you want to be notified of)
– Folders
– Offline or at least an “Away” mode.
– Ability to delete/hide apps that are NOT installed. Ex: In the TV & Video folder, I don’t have Hulu Plus, NBA Game, Vudu, etc.. so why do I need to have that there before I get to apps that I DO have like Youtube?
– Ability to share our gameplay video clips & screen shots to our PS4 FEED & that our friends can comment on them as originally shown in the promo videos before the PS4 release.
The removal of 0% trophies is nice. I won’t be able to make use of the Suspend/Resume though but thanks for continually adding new features! To clarify why I won’t be able to use Suspend is since the PS4 doesn’t have a power switch like my PS3 does I always turn off the powerbar when I am not playing. The 15 minute video recording and screenshot is awesome, wish my PS3 had those.
The WiiU/3DS keeps track of daily gameplay time and even totals for all games. I wish every Playstation could do this.
Custom backgrounds or wallpapers would be nice so that I can use solid black. If only could throw some water drops falling down the screen in an animated theme, that would be cool.
Guys, I just want to say that I’m really happy with the PS4 OS. It does the job and it’s easy to navigate, unlike a certain competitor.
The one thing left that I’d honestly like to see is the ability to change your PSN Username. Not that I want to change mine, but I know a lot of people that do.
How about support for external hard drive space? That 500gb at launch might have seemed like a lot, but it fills up quick. Also, how about adding folders, new avatars, and a way to turn off those pesky notifications in the “What’s New” section. I’m anti-social and I really hate having to delete those one by one.
Is there any chance that the ps4 will get Skype?
Disappointed there’s no Dlna or even media import added yet, but nice other stuff I guess.

The majority of the selection is many years old. All of the top 1st party (and hopefully 3rd party) games should have at least one to two avatars to choose from.
If you’re taking “wish list” recommendations, can we PLEASE, please, please have a proper backup/restore option like the PS3 has? I upgraded my HDD recently, and having to reinstall 15 disc based games, re-download all my PS+ and purchased digital games, and re-download updates for ALL of that was not fun. :( Restoring the save files one at a time from portable storage was not fun either.
I would rather back it all up ONCE, and restore it ONCE. It was rather painless the two times I upgraded my PS3. :)

Very nice offerings guys, How ever i want you guys at Sony to upgrade Share Factory. With this update us the Users will be able to make our own themes from either Screen Shots from game that we played and be able to custom it with stickers that can pop out put game music or our own music on the theme that we made and or other cool stuff that the Share Factory can offer and Share it and put it on our systems. Also as a more Niffy feature that the Share Factory can have as well is with recorded game clips we can Custom that as well as a Theme, Kind of as a more Special Dynamic theme the first of it’s kind Video themes with the Audio of the clip playing with the video. Or you can Custom it like you can with the Share Factory already by editing or adding bits and pieces from other game clips to make one cool Video Theme of your best moments of gaming. What do you think of that feature Scott McCarthy.
I am very excited for this update!!! I would like to have a release date within the next 2 days if possible. Also, i would like to see improvements to multitasking, i would like to have an ability to appear offline and i would like to be able to burn music from cd’s onto the ps4 hard drive. And i would like to share videos to just friends on the ps4 without having to upload to youtube or facebook!!
all very exciting. can’t wait to try all this stuff out. since you said you’re taking suggestions, i’d say the only other thing i’d like to see right now is a way to share screenshots in the “what’s new” section without having to use facebook. i recently started making slideshow videos in sharefactory since i can’t just post them, and i think the users who aren’t signed into facebook on their consoles can’t see the screenshots.

Meanwhile almost daily my ps4 ejects my disc for no reason without permanent fix, maybe fix bugs before you add features just saying
If you could, it would be great if you would look into any glitches that may be occurring with the wireless card. There have been days that I get kicked off online a ton, especially during Destiny and more recently Singstar. The router is in the same room, and I’ve got fiber now, so there should be no reason my home equipment is failing me.
I would also like to see some sort off sorting function/folders show up. While having the most recently used app show up first is nice, I’d really like to move certain apps to static locations for easy finding. The first thing that comes to mind is the Youtube app. I have to dig all the way down to the bottom of the video section to find it, passing up other apps which I’ve never used.
On the same note my PS4 turns on from completely off just to do it sometimes, smh

I know this is a long shot, but would it be possible to at a “Appear Offline”/”Busy” option when you sign into your ps4? Don’t get me wrong I enjoy playing with friends, but it would be nice to have to ability to surf Netflix or do my dailies in Destiny without receiving messages from friends who want to Co’op when you only planned on playing for a few minutes. I just think this would be an easy way to prevent coming off as rude by refusing to play with friends who send you invites when you just want some ..”me” time with the console. Anyways can’t wait for this update!! especially for the pause and play !!
60fps remoteplay is AMAZING news! If we can stream 60fps now, does that mean that PS Now will also stream 60fps ps3 games? Speaking of which, pretty please add the original Bioshock to PS Now! Thatd be even more awesome!
DonkeyKongKilla, my PS4 also did this once or twice until I repositioned the system on the wood shelf. I think something was tripping the touch sensitive eject button. What is you system siding on? Maybe a can of compressed air would help.

Now may I suggest the ability to customize our dashboard? Namely our entertainment apps? Can we please be able to arrange them how we see fit and get rid of the advertisements for apps like HBOGO and Netflix? I already have these downloaded and this is just unwanted clutter.

I think that the most important thing to improve right now, aside from the resume feature; which is awesome;. you should consider letting people have the ability to make voice commands. Since not all functions have a command, why not let people add some, or just tune the ps4 to their voice to avoid difficulty. This will also stop the nasty bug where games and video streaming trigger the command prompt which lowers the volume.
Scout this for I love the ps4 best system ou there(better than Xbox one pc and steam) love you added play music while playing games. I love the competition ps4 has with the one. but hate that every one still give the upper hand the one. even if it losing to the ps4. I think Sony strike down the beast with external hard drive compatible, MP4, MP3 download, dnla. You would killem . Thanks

Will I ever be able to combine an old PSN account with my current one or transfer trophies and friends to my current one? I’ve been hoping for this for years now.
We have a better Playstation Camera than last gen. Higher internet speeds. Yet the PS4 does not offer video chat! Please don’t tell me to see note #10.

When will we be able to set wallpapers as our background? Like screenshots we’ve saved with the share button for example.
I would love to see a feature that allows us to play games from an external hard drive. Upgrading the internal hard drive is good but we are still limited to only 2 TB through normal means. It would open up the door for us to use larger storage options like what Microsoft does on the Xbox One.
Is there any place we can make requests?
I’ve got three concerns at the moment:
1. Can we please have a UI option that places Games in a container like the video apps have? I have so many games installed right now, they don’t all fit on the nav bar, I have to go into library to see things I haven’t played recently. Scrolling through more than ten items horizontally is a drag.
2. I’ve had my PS4 for less than six months, and I’ve already hit my PS Plus online save storage limit. Why does it seem like every save is at least 10MB? Why on earth is LBP3’s profile over 500MB? Right now there’s no way to buy extra space, so I just have to delete stuff from my cloud storage. Super lame.
3. Can you please add a “trial” category to the library, so we can distinguish from things we have full digital copies of from trials we’ve played? I’m actually hesitant to download demos sometimes because I know it’s going to clutter up my library whether or not I buy the full version.
Will we be getting expanded Bluetooth capabilities soon? Currently, I can’t connect any of my BT headphones or BT speakers.
