While developing the PlayStation 4 system, our hardware and software teams relied on feedback from our community of developers. The result is the most innovative and forward-thinking gaming console in the market today. Since launch, PlayStation has continued that trend of listening to feedback by bringing some of the most highly requested features from the PlayStation Nation to PS4 with each of our system software updates. When we unveiled PS4 two years ago, we announced Suspend/Resume, a feature that would enable PS4 users to jump in and out of their games faster than ever. This has been a feature gamers have been excited about since then, and today I am honored to officially confirm that system software update 2.50, “Yukimura,” will soon deliver Suspend/Resume, as well as a number of other requested features to PS4.
Suspend/Resume, which will be supported by nearly all PS4 titles, will create an atmosphere where your games are immediately available at any time — just pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games. When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off. Spend less time getting into your games and more time playing them.
Here are some of the other highly requested new features and changes coming soon in “Yukimura:”
- Sub-account to Master account Upgrade: Users with a sub-account will now be able to upgrade to a master account directly from their PS4 when they turn 18, removing restrictions for chat, enabling users to fund their own wallet, make purchases and more. Currently, users can upgrade their sub-accounts online at https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/.
- Facebook Friend Search: Gamers globally have jumped into PS4 as a redefined social gaming experience and connecting with friends over the network is a huge part of what makes the PS4 community so special. PlayStation now lets you go even bigger by connecting with your Facebook friends on PS4 using your linked account. Search for Facebook friends who are PlayStation Network members and build on the foundation of Friends you already have in your list.
- Remote Play & Share Play at 60 fps: For games that support 60 fps, the ability to customize the frame rate of Remote Play and Share Play will be added with “Yukimura.” Play to your bandwidth strengths and use this option to stream gameplay at 60 or 30 fps when using Remote Play or Share Play on supported devices.
- Accessibility Options: “Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make their PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.
- Trophy Improvements: We have received a ton of feedback to improve Trophies. In “Yukimura,” a screenshot will automatically be captured at the moment a Trophy is earned, making it easier than ever for you to share your greatest gaming moments with your friends. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.
- Share Video Clips to Dailymotion: When sharing standout PS4 moments via the Share button on DualShock 4, “Yukimura” will allow players to upload directly to Dailymotion.
Stay tuned for more information on “Yukimura” and, as always, let us know in the comments how we can continue to improve PS4 to make it the best place to play.
Chizuru Yukimura!
So what’s up with adding Pandora on there?
It was pretty sucky to see you guys took it off and I
Have to be using my PS3 just for Pandora
Hope you guys add it again.
I want full Bluetooth support for headset no more dongles or usb stick needing to be plugged in. I don’t understand why you went backwards with this.
+1 the ability to appear offline. Sometimes just want to play without being bothered
@Yakushi_X It saves sony time on maths
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
How about the ability to play
Video files on MKV format.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Maybe add a “Favorite Friends” list?
Will we ever get a notification when a friend hops online??
0% trophy deletion is useless. If you even get 1 trophy by accident you can’t delete the trophies.
Party chat through the playstation app, so my wife doesn’t interrupt me with a phone call, and I have to stop to answer her call.
More avatars! Just look at the PS3 ones that are available. The PS4 list is ridiculous. I’ll pay for it, just add them.
This update is going to be great! I’m really sad that the backup tool that was rumored isn’t on here though. I REALLY need this feature! My hard drive is currently full so I want to put a 2tb one in there but I don’t want to spend a whole day doing everything manually. Also I know that the button mapping feature is intended for players with disabilities but could you maybe make it so that we can have a different configuration for every game?
Other suggestions:
Folders, allow us to use all the avatars we own (like we can on PS3), let us hide apps on the homescreen we don’t use (like Playroom or Browser), appear offline, get notifications when certain friends come online (only the ones we choose)
I’ve been waiting for Suspend/Resume for MONTHS. SO glad that we finally get it. Tired of having to reboot a game over and over. :D
“. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.”
please, sometimes I play a game for like 5 minutes, but already won a trophy.
Please, enlarge the option to delete games
Suspend/Resume is awesome on the Vita
it’s finally coming to PS4 <3
I hope this means I can do a stable 60fps Remote Play to my Vita too
It would be amazing if we could save multiple loadouts/profiles with the new button remapping.
A BIG THANK YOU for removing trophy list with 0% thats something we really needed and wanted but i have to agree with people over here and say that you have to allow us to remove trophies with more trophies, there are games that are awful and sux to have that game there that you will never play again. Please allow us to remove games with more than 0%. This update is a step on the right direction tho.
Very awesome of you to respond to so many people! Even the references to #10 ;)
Oh I almost forgot, when you receive a party/voice chat, so you don’t interupt your game, the playstation icon accompanys the message so you can easily ok it without leaving the game.
Will we be able to save individual button-mapped profiles for each game or is it system-wide when you change the button mapping?
There’s some games that absolutely need custom button mapping while there’s others that I would prefer to just keep as their default. It would be a bit of pain constantly switching back and forth everytime I’m switching games.
As a blind PlayStation user, I welcome the Text to Speech with wide open arms! I’m super greatful for this feature! I’m using a form of a Text to speech software on my computer, hence I can type this on here. Hopefully it will be the same on the Ps4 when interacting with friends. if not, at least similar. No more asking people to read the text on screen when I’m searching for my favorite fighting games!
Since moving to PS4 I miss being able to put custom music in MLB The Show and WWE games. Is that something thats being discussed/planned for a later time? Also, would that lean more towards developer choice or Sony’s choice like integrate that to PS4 via update? Lets say developers such as 2K and Sony San Diego want that feature brought back, can it happen?
Scott, thanks for taking the time to stick around and reply. I hope this post won’t get drowned out, so if you could leave a “I read your post!” or something as a reply, that’d be great.
Post #17 mentioned more avatars, but truthfully, I’d like to use the ones I bought already. I’m assuming the PS4 avatar store will open up in the future? Hopefully, with a resolution bump for older avatars too.
Right now, to use a premium avatar, I have to go back and do it through my PS3, only then will it reflect on my PS4 + Vita.
Speaking of which, profile panels were something I really loved about the Vita UI. Would be stoked to see them make an appearance on the PS4. I’m sure there’s a market for premium panels too. The friends list has a similar layout to the Vita’s, and I think it would be a perfect fit.
Will there be a way to output audio both through our headset and TV at the same time?
I think these changes are welcome news. Personally, I would like to see two other changes implemented in future updates:
1. The ability to remove individual demos/unwanted items from our library
2. The ability to reassign the four system implemented colors of our PS4 lightbar (for instance: white=powering up; blue=fully powered)
The latter has more to do with aesthetics rather than function. Keep up the good work!
I think all these new features are great! You guys really should look into adding external hard drive support, though. Both the Xbox One and Wii U have it, and although the PS4 has upgradable internal hard drives, I find simply plugging an external hard drive through the outer USB port of the console to be much simpler and user-friendly. If it were to be implemented, not only would there already be the option of upgrading internally, but the addition of external hard drive support would only benefit the console much more, in terms of what it can do. Plus, it can be a real pain to have to switch internal hard drives to play certain installed games and/or have to delete game installs to make room for other games in your hard drive if there’s depleting memory. Please consider adding this, it would help a lot.
Online friend notfications would be great as well!

I would really love these things as well. :)
Can you let us make a folder like the one for TV & Video or just make one for the games because they take up alot of room.
I 100% agree with #272
I’d love to be able to use the emblems from trophies as Avatars. :)
@276
Costum profiles would be great
Hey, any chance we can see the use of an external hard drive to play our games from. I am completely running out of space and upgrading the internals seems like a bit of a task for me. I would like to just plug and play similar to other consoles.
Really happy to see some response to issues/suggestions people have for the OS.
I’d really like to see whatever’s happening with Players Met get sorted out. It doesn’t work consistently across different games. Not sure if it’s up to developers to implement, but it’s very frustrating to lose connection with people I met online.
I’m excited for this update! Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but can you add video to party chat? Maybe have a small window that lets you see other people in party chat that have the playstation camera turned on with having the option to turn off video.
I would like to ask a question about the button remapping – is it possible to remap for dash only but leave games default?
I hate the x is back and o is go on my ps4, I’m used to x for go and o for back (Xbox convert!)
Yet still no Bluetooth support for headsets :/ shame….
Nice Update! but I would prefer an update for the networkchip. got an 50mbit/s connection but my ps4 only reaches up to 27mbit/s…support say that this is all that the ps4 can handle :( btw sry for the bad english, I’m german ;)
Dear lord some gamers are the biggest man babies I have ever seen in my gaming life stretching out 25+ years. You really are so OCD and so insane that you need to delete every game that doesn’t have some kind of near 100% number on trophies? I mean…. really? Does anyone even care about trophies anymore but the kids? I can’t even be bothered to barely plat a game anymore lol. Deleting 0% games is welcome I guess but even that I don’t care about. If this is what you care about you need to actually consider not gaming anymore. You are gaming for the wrong reasons.
This is a very solid update. I wish Scott would address WHY the PS4 does not have HDMI audio options like the PS3 does. Those of us with receivers can only force 7.1 audio or 5.1 and it creates a large noisefloor on the system through ANY receiever with HDMI that I have tried including a very nice Denon stack. The PS3 is better because you can for 2.0 STEREO to your components, and it is a quiet noisefloor. For this reason I can never watch Blurays on the PS4. It’s actually very very disappointing.
So there is no External HDD support in this particular update?
This is actually a surprisingly decent update, looks good! Any word on Spotify? It’s supposed to be coming soon.
While we’re on wishlists, I’d also like to mention: DLNA, Audio/Video playback via USB, Select Friend sign-on notification, PSN name change.
Appearing offline without having to disconnect internet is also, I AGREE, a very nice but small thing to give us in a future update. But Scott is gone now and all we got were the whiners complaining about the usual stuff Sony is already working on.
HDMI 2.0 audio and offline gaming are two I would definitely vote for….
Can’t wait for the update to be released!
I wonder if you would consider having an option for deleting games that have more than 0% completion! Because I have games that I no longer play which sit on 1% or 5% on my profile just for doing trivial things such as watching the opening scene, killing your first monster, creating your character…etc etc. I really wish we could have such an option!
Yes, your receiver does downmix but it doesn’t do it right when the PS4 forces 7.1 audio on you when you only have headphones. The downmix creates some kind of lare noisefloor that is clearly audible. It always is in games or film. Not a huge deal I just wonder why we do not have the options in HDMI audio like the PS3 had….
Also, to guy above, he already said no to that. No deleting anything other than zero percent because of the sanctity of trophies. People would just delete whatever they do not want then and everyone would have nothing but 100% games on their comparison. I understand why this choice is made. And seriously I have no idea in hell why anyone cares about this stuff. Trust me neither girls nor anyone else worth anything gives a flying crap that you have a game with 3% trophies. You really need to get over it. You are not perfect. Life is not perfect. You are not better or worse because you have a game with 5% trophies.
In what update will we be able to see when our friends go online? Hopefully soon considering the ps3 has this feature.
Things the PS4 NEEDS:
External HDD support (I want to hurry up and back up any data I have before something happens and I lose it.)
Friend Login/Logout Notifications
DLNA support
Ability to SAVE MP3s to the PS4
Ability to change avatars on PS4
Ability to save personal photos to PS4 and change them to be our wallpaper
This is just the tip of the iceberg
What about folders, and the ability to backup the HDD? My PS4 is so full I can’t even update my games.
This is a nice update. I’m looking forward to the trophy improvements and the suspend/resume feature. Also, since you asked, we really need folders to organize our games and apps. Right now we just have an endless scroll of everything we ever downloaded. It looks cluttered and it’s a pain to navigate. Sorting options within folders would a plus too (alphabetically, last played, download date, etc.). Thanks.

We are limited by the upload compression of the social media networks just like any other device. Throw the screen-grabs down to a thumb drive and there’s no loss. Upload those grabs and… you are at the mercy of the upload compression.
Look at these images from inFAMOUS: Second Son

Tell me that’s not awesome![quote]
Even through the USB to thumbdrive export, the PS4 screenshot grabs are highly compressed JPEGS and do indeed have loss and tend to be blurrier than what we see on our TV. It would be great if we could capture high quality PNG’s like the Xbox One (which are completely lossless and very crisp looking) and transport them to thumbdrive.
Just look at these Xbox One PNG captures and tell me they don’t look more awesome than PS4 captures!

Your accessibility options make more sense if you’d re-add PS3’s universal USB controller support, which’d allow a lot more controllers for them.
