While developing the PlayStation 4 system, our hardware and software teams relied on feedback from our community of developers. The result is the most innovative and forward-thinking gaming console in the market today. Since launch, PlayStation has continued that trend of listening to feedback by bringing some of the most highly requested features from the PlayStation Nation to PS4 with each of our system software updates. When we unveiled PS4 two years ago, we announced Suspend/Resume, a feature that would enable PS4 users to jump in and out of their games faster than ever. This has been a feature gamers have been excited about since then, and today I am honored to officially confirm that system software update 2.50, “Yukimura,” will soon deliver Suspend/Resume, as well as a number of other requested features to PS4.
Suspend/Resume, which will be supported by nearly all PS4 titles, will create an atmosphere where your games are immediately available at any time — just pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games. When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off. Spend less time getting into your games and more time playing them.
Here are some of the other highly requested new features and changes coming soon in “Yukimura:”
- Sub-account to Master account Upgrade: Users with a sub-account will now be able to upgrade to a master account directly from their PS4 when they turn 18, removing restrictions for chat, enabling users to fund their own wallet, make purchases and more. Currently, users can upgrade their sub-accounts online at https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/.
- Facebook Friend Search: Gamers globally have jumped into PS4 as a redefined social gaming experience and connecting with friends over the network is a huge part of what makes the PS4 community so special. PlayStation now lets you go even bigger by connecting with your Facebook friends on PS4 using your linked account. Search for Facebook friends who are PlayStation Network members and build on the foundation of Friends you already have in your list.
- Remote Play & Share Play at 60 fps: For games that support 60 fps, the ability to customize the frame rate of Remote Play and Share Play will be added with “Yukimura.” Play to your bandwidth strengths and use this option to stream gameplay at 60 or 30 fps when using Remote Play or Share Play on supported devices.
- Accessibility Options: “Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make their PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.
- Trophy Improvements: We have received a ton of feedback to improve Trophies. In “Yukimura,” a screenshot will automatically be captured at the moment a Trophy is earned, making it easier than ever for you to share your greatest gaming moments with your friends. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.
- Share Video Clips to Dailymotion: When sharing standout PS4 moments via the Share button on DualShock 4, “Yukimura” will allow players to upload directly to Dailymotion.
Stay tuned for more information on “Yukimura” and, as always, let us know in the comments how we can continue to improve PS4 to make it the best place to play.
Any chance of getting the ability to set the share button to record the last 3 minutes of gameplay when I click it once? Instead of going into a completely separate screen to “push square to save video clip”. When playing online FPS games, this is almost certain death if I want to save a clip of something I just did because I have to leave the game just to push the square button to save the clip.
Is there a way to get better control options for default remote play?
I know it’s up to developers, but the default control scheme offered makes me wonder if anyone over there has ever actually picked up a vita.
Can you give us the option to have it more like GTA V remote play controls? Or at least have the option of making them not suck on our own.
so i read a bunch of comments here and it got me thinking:
Best Graphics = PS4
Everything Else = PS3 FLAWLESS VICTORY!
LMFAO :D
…seriously, the lack of some utterly basic features on PS4 compared to PS3 is spectacularly embarrassing Sony.
How you guys aren’t permanently embarrassed is beyond me :/
Hello
It is great to know all the new features, but I am looking forward to having home media server in PS4 . I would like to know if this is coming up soon. …
500th comment YeAh babY!!! :D
NOW GIVE US PSN ID CHANGE!
My PS4 is only 2 weeks old. I do have the other console since day one. I can honestly say that I am liking the PS4 more. As for this update it sounds really good. It’s always good to see consoles evolve. The only thing I want to see added at this time (in future updates) is the ability to be able to use external hard drives to install games to. I do know that Sony made it easy to put in a different hard drive but I feel adding external support would be amazing for the PS4.
But like I said I have only had my PS4 for 2 weeks and just now realized that I can turn off the background music on the dashboard. The PS4 is a great machine and I am really enjoying it. The PS4 is evolving and that’s great. Keep up the good work PlayStation/Sony.
I like what you guys are adding with this patch, it looks good. I hope that sometime soon we’ll get the ability to manage our Library. I get tired of having Demos cluttering up my Library, even though I’ve deleted them from my hard drive. Maybe you could add a “Deleted/Redownload” section separate from the Library?
god dammit Elgredy_Humberto :@
Awesome update! How about custom backgrounds so I can make my own?
I want to know why? you can’t play blue-ray disks (have to activate online only) NO blue-ray player out of the box like PS3. Or see your trophy’s OFFLINE please fix that I don’t know why you guys make thing more confusing than what they need to be. This should be slandered on any PlayStation device.
Please
DLNA
Internal Media Player
– with capability to play HD music files as flac
– photos
– videos
Audio output upsampling as does PS3 or better
I have a high end receiver, and I use my PS3 to plaback music because it has great quality, bitmap setting 3 is awesome.
PSOne compatibility
PS2 compatiblity
I don’t know if its technically feasible but It would be nice if we could display PSvita screen on TV using PS4,
as we can do with android devices or airplay on some TVs
I’m happy with what’s been done to improve organization on the system, but I would still like to see folders. This is how I would implement them:
You highlight a game, and press the Options button. You then choose the “Add to Folder(s)” option. A menu will pop up showing available folders to choose to add it to, or you could create a new folder here. You can select any variety of folders by checking the checkbox next to each of the folders you would like to put it in. Then you finish and choose “Add” at the bottom. Then to find those folders, you go over to your Library on the right. Just like there’s filter options like Games, Applications, etcetera; there could also be your folders underneath those. So let’s say I make a “Party” folder and put Nidhogg, TowerFall: Ascension, Starwhal, and Helldivers in it. I see my Party folder in my Library, and those are the games that show up when I open it.
That’s my proposition anyway. You guys can make folders however you like, but I want to see them. I’m happy to see how far the system has come already. I know you all will bring great things in this and future updates. Keep up the great work. :)
Nick
You want “PS4 versions of DLNA, not cut and paste”? Why not bring cut and paste DLNA for the time being, then work on something amazing later?
The Suspend/Resume news is awesome, though. Thanks.
So when will Spotify be available on the ps4??
Why isnt custom wallpaper and themes supported yet?this feature was supported on my ps3,when i upgraded to the ps4 i lost the ability to use a picture i took as my background…why is this?please try to include this feature on a future update….nexgen98
Folders, need to organize my game and video programs cause the ps4 thinks I like WWE and Hulu when I haven’t even downloaded them. It annoys me.
Also need to be able to add my own background image. I actually like using theme based buttons but my own images behind them. My vita and vita TV are uber customized while my innovative ps4 is still using the original background cause I don’t have the option to personalize it.
But glad I can delete some 0% trophy a list. Plus has had me get a few of those when I’m trying out games.
Nice update, thanks.
If there’s one thing I really want to see in the near future, it’s the ability to GROUP FRIENDS.
With up to 1000 friends possible (I’m on 350+), we really need a way to group friends so we don’t have to scroll through hundreds of friends in order to find the one you want. Just seeing if someone is online is a pain, as is inviting them to a party.
If I could group friends in my own folders I could have folders for friends playing specific games, clan-members, RL friends, genre fans, whatever. I think it’s a real gap and shouldn’t prove that difficult to do – just an option to create folders in Friends, an option to add a friend to however many folders you like and some display options in the Friends tab.
Thanks, hope you can make that happen.
PLEASE sony ADD the features on ps4 that u can play VIDEO using thumbdrive OR hard drive please i really want to see that feature again if you add that features on ps4 this is the best gift birthday gift in my LIFE please sony please
I would LOVE to see more integration for Playstation camera more akin to the Kinect. I wish I could control Netflix and other apps by just using my voice. The last update added a lot more options but it still feel incomplete. Please please please take notes from Kinect and add more camera features!!!
Cool!
OMG the biggest yet simplest one for me is “We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.”
Woooooo finally
Hi:
Well, right now I can turn On my PS Vita, mi PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 3. Right now, the PLAYSTATION 3 has the BEST Interface EVER! It’s easy, it’s clean, fast, organized and customizable. Would you do that on PlayStation 4, please?
PLUS, I hope your Engineers solve the WiFi Problem a LOT of people have, Me included too. For some reason I can’t connect my PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation 4 to WiFi. One day just decided to stop working. The strange is that my Cellphone can share Internet signal but not a regular Modem. Sometimes the PlayStation 4 connects but PLAYSTATION 3 just no.
Sony bring METAL GEAR SOLID THE PHANTOM PAIN LIMITED EDITION PS4 to the UK
Bluetooth support for other Sony products like the SBH20 would be amazing.
Need a backup utility that does the whole system like PS3. UPdating Hard Drives, a feature you advertise, is a several day process for me if I have a large library.
YES!!!! THANK YOU!
please the ablity to play video on usb or hard drive thanks sony i love my ps4
How about the ability to appear offline? Sometimes I just want to game by myself and not worry about offending someone who sends a party or game request. I don’t know why this wasn’t in there from launch.
Sorry i didnt know how to reply on u.
but i know there are some themes..
but i meant more themes like DBZ Naruto or what eva form animes :)
A Teamspeak client would be amazing… I have several friends on PC that I would love to chat with while playing the dozen console games I am catching up on.
Nice update! I’d really like to see an “appear offline” option in the future. I like playing with friends, but sometimes I don’t want people know I’m online when playing a solo game, or watching a movie. That’s my request, keep up the good work!
…Is dailymotion still a thing ? Otherwise, great update !
What is a PS4 version of DLNA supposed to mean? Something proprietary and a pain to use – which is the typical Sony way of sinking itself?
Bluetooth headsets? Should have been there Day One. I don’t want a huge Gold headset, I just want a mono chat headset without a wire that is better than the included earbud which is terrible.
Friend on and off notifications? More important to me than almost anything else. Especially if I can flag favourite friends that I care if they are on or not.
Opening up the Party API further so that apps like Destiny can get better sound quality than the terrible Fireteam chat they have built in? Obviously this may be on Bungie, but it reflects on Sony
Opening up the chat to Jabber so I can use an IM client to chat with my buddies and set up things without using your clunky app?
What if there is a blackout in my town, what would happen if my PS4 was in suspend mode?
I want to see gifting on the PS Store and more preorders up prior to the release of games. There is only about 10 of them for a ton of releases this year.
If Sony were smart they would make PS Vita games playable on PS4 as long as you have a Vita registered on your account. PS tV is horrible.
It’s a good thing they listen to all those game devs out there who know exactly what us gamers want in a firmware update. (Rolls eyes) to be honest the one thing I want is folders. Nothing fancy just the ability to put stuff in folders. Should of been here day 1 yet over a year now and still on the back burner
My top 5 wishlist:
1) Library Management: Custom Folders/Tags, Hiding old Demos & Betas, Installed Games
2) Per game cloud save data quota rather than fixed 1 GB limit per account. People who buy more games should naturally get more online storage. Present system puts the people who buy more games at a disadvantage.
3) PS1 & PS2 backwards compatibility support. Its sufficient if this support is just for downloadable games. PS Now based backward compatibility doesn’t work in many places, like where I live.
4) Internet Radio Player support (Tune In) and it needs to work in the background
5) PS3 fightsticks & wheels driver support in PS4 firmware. This needs to be done at an OS level rather than requiring each developer to include drivers for specific peripheral. Some suitable version of such drivers are already available (Skullgirls dev gave it)
Oh wow! As a blind gamer, I’d like to thank Sony for including text to speech on the latest firmware. I can’t wait for this update to be deployed to everyone! I’m real curious how extensive TTS support is right now. This is a game changer for us, before we had to memorize, or write down tons of menus. But now, we’ll be able to use the console more independently. Awesome stuff Sony, keep it up! Soon as I get some extra cash, PS4 will be on the list of things to buy. :D :D :D :D
I just hope that we get a video chat feature. It would be a very nice thing to have considering the camera is only used for so much.
As many have stated, an “Appear Offline” feature would be a welcomed feature. In addition the ability to remove a game with any percentage from my Trophies list would be nice.
But, ultimately I’d like the ability to get rid of or hide Trophies altogether. I used to collect them (and was proud of them), but I find they are taking away from the gaming experience and I become addicted to collecting as many as possible rather than enjoying the game itself. That may just be me, though.
Could you please comment on whether or not online notifications are included w/ this update? It seems like you do a good job of answering questions pertaining to the stuff that is outlined in the system update…why are all comments pertaining to this simply ignored? This has been promised for quite a while now…
Can I finally change my controller’s light color?
How about the ability to delete or hide stuff from the “library”? I have Betas, Alphas, demos, and games I will never own again clogging stuff up in there and its ridiculous.
hey guys I live in a rural community and I do not have internet access at my home I would really appreciate it if I could view my trophy list offline is that ability coming anytime soon
I can’t believe you saying you can’t confirm the data backup tool. That’s outrageous! I mean, I have a 2TB HDD here just waiting for something like that to show up. One of my problems with the current system is you can’t return your Capture Gallery to your new HDD. I don’t understand why is that. I don’t want tons of gigabyte on my computer where I’ll never be able to show to my friends when they’re around. I want my Capture Gallery on my PS4, so it’s neatly organized by game and all my clips are easily accessible.
I won’t upgrade my HDD and lose all my Capture Gallery.
Second, having to download all your games again is really dumb when you can just backup and restore them. Especially when you don’t have good internet connection and/or your bandwidth is very limited.
So, I’ll be assuming that the data backup tool will be on this update. Thanks.
Great additions! Could you please answer this: Is bluetooth headset support on the roadmap for the near future (or future at all)?
Back-Up whole PS4 system should be number 1 thing to have just in-case of hardware failure shows up. Then allow the PS4 to back the whole system or select what games to app to be back then like the PS Vita does it.
Allow the PS4 to play PS1 & PS2 game with backwards compatibility that should have happen while back when two years pass from the system release date.
There is still a lot of interest in preserving Playstation Home, Can we have it migrate to PS4 so we can still enjoy our hard won purchases and indie games on the next Gen?
Hi guys! That’s great!
What about a ps4 update to bring compatibility for wheels and cockpits made for ps3, like the great ferrari GT by trustmaster?
Do you guys have plans for that? Tks!
