PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.

You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.

PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:

PlayStation Now subscription (US)

There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.

  • Will PS Plus members get free rentals of PS3 titles as part of their subscription?

  • Will we still be able to rent individual titles without a subscriotion similar to the beta?

  • Is there plans to add budokai tenkaichi 3 from ps2 to playstaiton now list? because it was my favourite game of all time and I would really like it. And also is there going to be a little cheaper price for the subscription because I cant get both ps plus and this ps now at the same time? please reply!

  • Are you serious from $49.99 a year to 45$ for 3 months are you crazy some families aint got dat much money but can just afford to a ps4 and some games but really u just do that its not like i can play the 100+ ps3 games free atleast but come on atleast give us the option to still pay $49.99 for a year to play online come on man

  • @403, this is seperate. ps plus is still $49.99 a year.

  • Very interesting, I think it should be 15, but pretty decent all in all. When it gets Vita support and it comes to Europe I will think about it, DOA5 and USF4 in there really got me interested.

  • Well done Sony. Solid pricing model, putting PS Now on par with similar services. There is a lot of value here. The only thing I see as missing is a full year plan. I’d like to see one tied in with PlayStation Plus, for around $150. Call it PS Plus+™, I’d be all over that ;)

  • I have a question. Say I purchased the subscription plan for PS4 and wanted to play those games that are included in on the plan on my ps vita. Would I be able to play it on the Vita too or would I have to rent again because the plan isn’t available on vita?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Now please let us play the PS3 games we already own on PS4 for free. Thanks.

  • Make it 8.99 like Netflix and I’ll sign up in a heartbeat.

  • Is Playstation Now bringing back any Call Of Duties from the PS3? Like Black Ops 2, MW2, or MW3?

  • Making your Console BC would have been a better choice than having to re rent games we once owned but had to sell do to lack of BC! :| But not we CAN play them, For a FEE lol :|

    Shady!

  • If you can AFFORD the servers for this, why not release the PS Plus Edition of Driveclub? Your most loyal subscribers, including me, paid dearly for a piece of it.

Why delay it if you are releasing PS Now in full force?

  • Right now the only Sony console I own is the PS TV. I look forward to the subscription service being available for it, and I hope it will be soon. I understand PS4 getting it first from a marketing standpoint, but I hope everyone else won’t be as far behind as “the coming months” makes it sound.

  • Question, would the games include their DLC as well or just the vanilla game by itself?

  • A MUCH more fair price than the beta was initially indicating. for only $5 more than gamefly you get unlimited instant streamed games? That combined with psplus seems like a no brainer. Providing it is fast enough and works well enough to actually play games on. (not very much) Time will tell. But I really like the price.

  • As a former Xbox 360 player(2009-2014) I was very happy to make the jump to Sony. I was a bit sad though that i missed out on PS3 but when they had announced PS Now last year, I was hoping that maybe in the future they might add subscriptions to make the service a bit cheaper and more reasonable to purchase. But this is ridiculous. These games are already old and have been on shelfs for at least a year+. I could understand 60-80 dollars a year, 35-50 every 6 months, etc but this is just unreasonable. If a bit cheaper then I would obviously jump on the bandwagon but Sony seriously? This is one of the major reasons why I left Microsoft. They were too greedy!

  • A bit expensive but I think it’s a very good start. I hope this leads to us being able to play ps3 games in our download list, for free, down the line.

  • When you guy’s going to stop this 5 MB for playstation now I won’t to try it out but I can’t afford another $20 more I could but I can’t right now

  • So, charge us for back-words compatibility.First you start with DLC.I use to buy every game day one and realize that i was penalize .So now I wait 6-9 mouths and the the full game with all DLC comes out for less that launch day price.I own about 100 * PS3 games and know,if i want to play them on my PS4, i need to pay for a service. Please dont tell me that it would be difficult because a emulator is a lithe easier that creating this service.Today if i want a game from day one i wold have to pay 60 for the game then 30 for the season pass plus tax. that’s about 100 for every game. know you want to charge for games that are already made. you guys are pushing it. I’m out.

  • Once PS1 and PS2 games are added I’ll bite. I don’t miss games from last year, I miss games from 10-15 years ago.

  • Damn your quadruple post…it was a good point just once.

  • do u get trophies from those games

  • Love the idea as of now, but I think the price is a tad bit high for being in a early stage.

Any chance ps2 titles might hit it?

Please think of considering if you already have the game, and you don’t have the subscription, you should be able to put the disc in to prove it and then stream for free from there as you already paid for it.

  • Will DLC be included with the games that have it?

  • I never post on here, but I’m doing so in hopes that I’ll get an official reply from someone from Sony. Are you able to earn trophies from games played using PS Now?

    If so, I’m sold.

    • Official response: yes, you can! If the PS3 game supports trophies in general, it will also be supported on the PS Now streamed version. You can earn trophies as you normally do and they will sync to your PSN account and overall trophies collection!

      Thanks for your question!

  • Not bad pricing. I’m still keeping gamefly instead. 2 game plan, or blu ray and game etc for 23 bucks. I get everything new (and Blu rays) and don’t have to worry about returning til I want. I do not like your comment on how some games won’t be on the service bit can be rented for extra. Who knows I’ll try it out free

  • Are all games gonna be available under the subscription service or is it going to be a different set of games for both? So if I’m paying 20$ a month and decide to play a game on the rental list then I have to pay a separate hourly charge? This seems confusing as I’m not understanding why not just allow a subscriber to play the FULL library of PS Now games?

If that’s the case then no way will I pay for this. I’m already feeling like 20$ a month is a bit much but now even more money if I want to play a game not under subscription service so my monthly bill goes from 20$ to 30$ a month or more with the rental pays. This is crazy just another bill on top of my ps plus, not to mention the games we buy at full price plus all the extras we have to pay for now and everyone’s other monthly bills Microsoft live, cell phone, internet etc.

  • OK!!!! So here goes, the concept is great! Sony has amazing Ideas for sure, but its all about the price why in gods name did I pay for PLUS membership? Oh wait its mandatory for a PS4 yes, so why should we pay more for a new service isn’t the whole process of being a PLUs member to reap the benefits of extra and free games and discounts?
Sony heres the thing we as a consumer the ones paying for all of the benefits that you say in Plus memberships get a lot of goodies, yea those people who already put out more money then you can imagine for a system that is epic in all its glory.
I have to pay more money for yet another service, you have to go back to the drawing board and establish a better price for Plus members. No matter how many new things you come up with we the consumers make the difference at the end of the year. Take care of your consumers you can do better, don’t be like Xbox and nickel and dime us ^_^ thanks Sony!

  • I think you should be able to vote each month what game you want to pick out

  • I’m really liking the launch titles and am very excited to see what this is going to become.
Just some concerns though… what about trophies? And if there are, do they count as PS4 or PS3 trophies?

    • You can earn PS3 trophies on PS Now game titles. The only requirement is that the PS3 game you are playing supports trophies to begin with.

  • People are saying this is too expensive, where as there are people paying $15 dollars a month for WoW or FFXIV and that’s only for 1 game. I like this price point.

  • @Peter Jamshidi I got a compliant I have couple of those games that I got for free from playstation plus and paid it with my own money. I got a playstation 4 for Christmas and I was really looking forward to play my PS3 games on my PS4. It’s really not fair if people that bought the games on the PS3 store and hoping to play it for free. I totally understand the concept that people who didn’t have a PS3 and just got the PS4 can have the renting service but a Sony fan like me are really mad that I bought a games from the PS3 store and I should get it for free not rent a game that I already own. Can you guys do something @Peter Jamshidi

  • Over priced in my opinion.

    You guys at Sony would have at least had skeptical people somewhat interested if the pricing model was around;

    $10 / 1 month
    $25 / 3 Months
    $75 / 12 months

Also, do we need a PS+ subscription is order to be online and stream the games in the first place?

  • @434 You… I like you. Good little thing to think about. (Seeing how I pay for WoW myself)

I do think this is a great deal. Unlimited access to however many games are in the subscription service library for $15 a month (with 3 month plan).

Switch between as many games as you can within a couple seconds.

Think about how much renting a game used to cost back in the day (or just individually renting with PS Now) compared to this service. (5,6 or 7 dollars for 3-4 days for ONE game)

  • Sweet! As soon as this is available for PS Vita, I’m in. Have been playing Killzone3 and works great, worth every penny. Can’t wait to play the Uncharted series and The Last of Us. Thanks Sony!

  • Bring REAL backward compatibility back.

  • Yep. I can TOTALLY get behind this. I’m sure I’ve spent more than $20 per month renting games when I was younger.

  • I’m really interested in this program, I collect alot of games and a system like this is almost a dream come true so I can put alot of that clutter away. I am also interested in getting the Playstation TV here soon. So here’s my question:

Is this subscription coming to the Playstation TV? I would love to be able and put all my old console and games away so I can just have that little device to stream games on instead but I don’t want to drop 100+ dollars on a device that wont be supported. Any idea if it might be supported by this subscription model?

  • I want this very much because I just got PSTV for birthday to compliment my PS4 and I am wanting some missed trophy hunting when I got rid of my PS3 (huge mistake). I am on the fence as far as the price is currently. At $180 a year in addition to my PS Plus subscription puts me at $230 a year.

If you ever decide to do a yearly at $100 or $120 (maybe even a $150, but still high) I would be 100% sold on the idea.
And I saw that you replied on the fact that the Now and Plus are completely separate entities and not currently compatible but I think maybe even a group deal for around $180 – $200 would be a huge selling point for you guys.

Is the free week available to all the PS4 Plus subscribers?

Either way I am a PS player and appreciate you being leaps and bounds above the competition!

  • Maybe its been covered, but how will online multiplayer games be handled? Is it an option? Can u play with player who own retail copies?

    • Yes, multiplayer is supported with PlayStation Now!

A cool feature is that you can play the game with anyone who has the same PS3 game – whether it is a physical retail version, PS Store downloadable version or streamed version!

  • I want the Yearly Subscription for PlayStation Now to enjoy the games from PS1, PS2, and PS3. Will there be over 1,000 ps3 games, over 1,000 ps1 and ps2 games added to ps now subscription? will there be a yearly subscription for the playstation now? will there be dlc for playstation 3 games? Please include the yearly subscription for PlayStation Now.

  • Are we going to get godzilla for the psn on 7/1/2015 plz do tell

  • @443 Great question!

  • PlayStations sweet but I went back and read the user agreement it said nothing about playstion store purchases are final

  • Playstations awesome however I went back and read the PlayStation store policy and there’s nothing about purchases being final I’m pushing for a refund.
