PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.

You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.

PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:

PlayStation Now subscription (US)

There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.

  • I can’t wait for games like crash bandicoot, syphon filter 2,metal gear solid,Dino crisis 2 just to name a few.

  • $20 a month AND it doesn’t even cover the entire catalog (200+ available to rent, only 100+ for subscription)?! No thanks.

PS Plus users should be allowed to stream PS3 games they already own (on disc or purchased on PSN) as a membership benefit providing backwards compatibility, so they don’t have to keep all their old console that rarely sees much action plugged into the TV.

I’d still be willing to buy PS3 titles if I were able to stream them to my PS4. You could even charge a small one time fee to “activate” this feature, to offset the cost of remote PS3 / virtualisation hardware (say $100, around half the cost of a new PS3 console).

  • That’s 200 a year! And there is 50 bucks for plus! That’s 250 a year! I already own all of games on the list . I’ll save money buy getting a used ps3 . You can pick one up for a 150. I don’t see why any one would go for this stupid deal!

  • Make it $149.00 for 1 year and I’ll subscribe in a heartbeat.

  • This news is freaking awesome! I can’t wait to try a free trial in the future, are the games listed will be playable on Jan 13? I saw Warhawk on the list and was wondering will we be able to play online with other people over PS3 or just people on PS now? I don’t remember if Warhawk had a single player mode in it . Also if we subscribe are able to carry it over on the Vita and play on there too? Thank You for all the updates PS Blog

  • This is cool, but 100 games really isn’t much. However, it’s a good start. Don’t let low revenue at the outset discourage you, because I believe cloud gaming is the future, at least for the Vita, and it needs all the help it can get. Just keep adding more games, and try to add psp, psn, vita, etc games to it.

  • Lets see , 100 games of my choice to be rented and played in a instant at $44.99 for 3 months. That’s awesome!! Off topic- Please put Street Fighter the movie game in PS1 classics and I’ll buy it on PS3. I was looking for it last night for ps3, guess it was only released for Europe. lol.I had the physical big case disc version stolen way back in 90’s. Other classics like Die hard trilogy , Foxhunt, fade to black?, Overblood and Silverload are also a must, if possible. Peace

  • I don’t have a problem with a subscription model. I do mind being thrown over a desk and being screwed though. That is $230 a year towards ps plus and ps now. On top of my Netflix and Amazon subscriptions. Also where is the loyalty and discount to Playstation plus users? They should make it more incentive to have both. Not treat them separate. Also hate to say this but a lot of those games suck that is on PSNOW. Where is all the first party titles or the ps1 and ps2 classics?

With that said I think we are on the right track. May try a 1 month subscription if I like the trial. But no way am I sinking that kinda $ into it with the current library.

  • While I’m glad to hear you guys DID add a subscription model, you still don’t get it. You haven’t addressed the main problem with now… Or rather it’s two major issues; It’s pricing and its limited library. Now while I realize your gonna improve on the latter… This $20/$15 model only barely matches your competition, a competitor who has much better selection across more platforms.

You gotta get it through your head and stop being greedy, gamers are not made of money and are smart enough to see a poor offer when they see it. Not to mention households that have more than one user on their ps4, and multiple vitas. I’m sure like plus and game licenses… All of this is account bound. Meaning I’d have to get a subscription to now for every family member who wants to stream.

I agree with everyone else, this is just not worth it. Not when we are already required to pay for plus. A discount of some sort or cheaper rates is the direction you wanna go. Now just isn’t worth it yet.

  • I don’t know, I for one feel that this sounds awesome. I cannot wait to see some earlier titles like Crash Bandicoot for PS1 and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance for PS2. Nice job guys! Now just include a year bundle for PS plus And PS now at a decent price and we’re in business.

  • Hoping this will be available to other regions later in 2015 *crosses fingers*

  • Is this service linked to your Playstation ID Account or does it work for all accounts on the PS4? I was just wondering since both my girlfriend and I live together and we have separate Playstation ID’s.

  • Here’s the problems with this. The game selection is not that great. Where’s Skyrim? Wheres Call of duty?? Wheres anything that scored over a 6/10 by a major game reviewer? You’re selling a 20 dollar a month subscription to rent games that I buy used at GameStop for like $4. I know you’ll add more games monthly so maybe someday you’ll eventually have a portion of my ps3 library available but still- Why would anyone pay $20 dollars a month for a game library that they could BUY for $50 at a used game store and keep forever. I hate having to plug in my Ps3 every time I want to play skyrim but it wouldn’t be worth $20 a month and constant high speed internet. This is the type of thing that probably flies in japan but I don’t think it’s going to be successful in the U.S. It’s too much money for too little benefit. Even if you had every ps3 game ever made it wouldn’t be worth it to me for $20 bucks a month becasue I’ve already bought them all.

  • is that all the games? it is really cool but i wish demon souls was up there

  • Seems great. I hope we can eventually get a 1 year subscription just like a Playstation Plus membership! Looking forward to this new experience.

  • I’m in Mexico and have an american PSN account, can I access to the program now?

  • Will there be refunds or credit for the inevitable down times so common with the stupid service quality that is the PSN???

  • Are all games included in the subscription or are some game still sold separately? Basically are you Netflix or Amazon Prime of the gaming world?

  • Bring it to other regions please..let us enjoy the greatness too..

  • What about the Drop / store update for the week?

Are you guys being lazy again?! Kids are back in school, people are working and stuff, so why aren’t you guys doing your jobs?

  • hmm interesting

  • Any chance we’ll see NCAA Football 14 on PS Now? I lost it when I upgraded to the PS4, and I’d love to be able to play it on my PS4 and PS Vita! Thanks for the consideration, and thanks for making the Playstation world so awesome!

  • The US does NOT have the internet infrastructure needed for ‘Cloud Gaming’ to be even remotely practical.
It may be the future one day.. but not any time soon.
Not at current upload speeds provided by the monopolistic ISP’s in North America.

Please check out this video in link below.. it explains it better.

  • Hello :) I live in Canada an I love this idea Sony has come up with because I have so many PS3 games I would still love to play !! But I was wondering will there be the PS3 game Call of duty Black ops in the playstation now subscription ??!

  • Another gamer here in support of some sort of access to our already purchased PS3 libraries. I’ve spent too much money on digital copies of PS3 titles to pay full price for PSNow at this time. I look forward to any changes that will be made to PSNow in the future…

  • Please make sure it comes to the u.O year hears an idea perhaps you could make an individual game rental like now
or those who payed subscription they gets them all for that time pereod.
I will buy it to give it a go if it comes to the UK.

  • only if it on the vita

  • What about a year subscription?

  • Not my bag. I have spent sooooooo much $$ on psn over the years.

  • Just make ps4 backwards compatible!!!

  • I dont mind the price but could you lower it down a little for the others sake

  • Great idea, slightly overpriced BUT, apologies if this has been asked (ain’t seen anything 3 pages in so far) DO you earn trophies on these titles?

  • Will a single subscription work on all platforms that support PS Now? Is there a timeline as to when the other systems (Vita, PS TV, PS3) will also have access to the subscription as well?

Would be nice to live the vision of playing/picking up a single game across multiple screens!

  • I have to be honest at first glance this sounds awesome. But then I realize the subscription price is on top of my Playstation Plus cost monthly, and it is starting to get a little pricier than I feel it should be. I feel like a $14.99 per month or 3 months for 39.99 sound just perfect to me.

  • I still find the price far too high, now if there was a yearly subscription that is a little less I would probably be up for it.

  • I am also worried about all the outages going on now, I woulden’t be able to access any of the games if I bought a subscription if the network was so easily shut down. So I would be burning money at that point.

  • At 14.99 this would be an instant grab for me. At 20 bucks though I’m gonna have to think a little harder……….OK I’ve thought about it. Still gonna buy it lol. Although a discount for plus members would be great.

  • Will there be a psn now trial starting on january 13 for all users?

  • ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 9,10 OR 11PLE@ASE ADD ONE OF THESE 3 GAMES TO PS2 CLASSICS PLEASE!!!

  • Seems too overpriced to me… How is it that PS4 multiplayer, weekly store discounts, and 6+ free games a month is $50 per year, and access to an old game library is $180 per year at the cheapest? Doesn’t make sense to me.

  • And psnow subscriptions sound great but I’ve been playing rainbow moon via psnow and i gotta say it pretty much sucks its constantly freezing up and lagging and i end up doing things i don’t want to in game due to the constant issues

  • Also when do i get my 5 days back on my rental like psplus subscribers are getting

  • Can you guys put South Park: Stick of Truth on there? That would be an instant sell for me!

  • Can you activate the 7 day trial on seperate psn accounts like if i have a primary and a secondary?

  • Will there be card’s for this like say playstation plus or will be paid off of wallet if wallet or a card I can probably handle it. And I’ll be much more in favor of the subscription based. I use mostly vanilla visa/visa giftcards over credit cards mostly since I don’t trust myself with a credit card ha ha.

  • How do we get the free trial?

  • Seeing a combo of Plus and Now would be very interesting. Say $100 a year? If that’s the only yearly option for Now, then I’d think that it’d sell quite well.

  • Please bring it to the UK/EU soon

Please don’t bring it to UK/EU priced at £20 a month or £45 for 3 months.

  • Cool, some people should enjoy this. Not a service for me though, especially at that price. I play games slower and makes more sense to buy from the discount bin.

What I did notice about PS Now when I looked into it. The store needs to be redesigned and better organized. Should be able to search for games based on a certain price for a certain length of rental.
