PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.

You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.

PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:

PlayStation Now subscription (US)

There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.

  • Will there be an option to pay for a full year for the subscription at some point? 3 months at $15 a month is a good value, but I think it would be a hassle to be limited to 3 months at a time.

  • This is to expensive they should have this included with PlayStation plus.

  • This is garbage and here’s why:

“The PS Now rental catalog already has 200+ games and games are added weekly so yes, you may find some games that will not be in the current subscription offering but can still be rented individually.
Subscriptions will give you access to 100+ games that get unlimited access and this catalog will evolve over time.”

Pay $240 per year plus additional rental fees for games not in the subscription service. How many games can you rent individually for that $240.00? Plus its money you won’t be spending on new games.

Even if you play every single one of the 100+ games you are still paying $2.00 per rental. If you don’t then your rental fee goes up the less you play.

I’m a huge PlayStation fan, but this is terrible for gamers. Especially if it becomes a model for all future gaming. Eventually you will never own a game again and will always be on the hook paying to play.

    Count me out.

  • Maybe my question will get answered this time. Is this service linked to your Playstation ID Account or does it work for all accounts on the PS4? I was just wondering since both my girlfriend and I live together and we have separate Playstation ID’s.

  • Question can you use say Playstation Store cash for the service? Or does it have to be with a credit or debt card?

  • It would be great to have a special pricing plan for PSN+ users, seriously you guys are definitely going in the right direction with the library access being so huge from the get go. I would easily fork over another extra 5-10 bux if it meant I could do this in conjunction with my PSN+ subscription.

Please do have plans in place for a discount for existing PSN+ users!

  • this is good but can you get some 16 bit classic sega genesis games on PS now and a 1 year plan to i am someone who would like that

  • Awesome!

    – Will the game saves we have on system or ps+ be carried over?

    – Will there be any “Cheat” system integration for SP/Co-Op games? (some of the older titles are a little too hard for some of us and, in those cases, we often don’t get a chance to fully enjoy the hard work that has gone into the environments… and some games just have insta-death AI :P )

    – Will this replace PS+ free games?

    – We still don’t have a Game Library on Vita, PSP or PS3… this is really annoying because we have to go through our download list or games currently available digitally online with no “Purchased” filter.

    – PS Store needs a “Purchased” section.

    – PS Store needs to load faster on PS3’s

So future thinking yet, issues from the past remain…

    – Will we get MGS: Twin Snakes and RE 0 on this list of PS Now titles? and is Crisis Core (FF VII) PSP available?

  • Generally I like the idea, Pricing model needs to include 6 and 12 month subs and possibly as an extension of the PS+ subscription to those who have PS+ subs.

SCE needs more gamers at the top and equal region distribution dates… I am sick of always being in a region “afterthought” to the US… we PS Players are ONE group in “a world without borders” so… if there are titles not yet available globally… get it done!

Finally… for the love of Kojima! UPDATE YOUR NETWORK SECURITY!!! THE HACKING IS IRRITATING!!! BUT, THE HACKERS MAKE A VALID POINT WHEN THEY SAY “SCE has the money to build a more secure network they just are either ignoring it or simply don’t care” WHICH IS SHAMEFUL!!! AND 3 DAYS DOWNTIME!!!???

I don’t expect an answer but, as a SCE fan… I feel I deserve one… “So say we all!”

  • What’s with the 1,250 char comment limitation?

  • I have been waiting for a subscription based service. Thank you. This may not make a lot of sense for those whom are already heavily vested into Playstation games and systems. For an XBox 360 user like myself who recently picked up a Playstation TV for playing Vita games on the big screen, this is right up my alley. Can’t wait for this to be available on the PS TV. This is perfect for the casual gamer whom is no longer interested in having to have the latest system. Give a decent introductory price on yearly subscription at about $99 and I am all in. Then as the catalog of games evolves and the platform matures, I could see moderate price increases.

  • I have been waiting for a subscription plan, however I thought the subscription buyers would be able to play anything in the catalog. Since it’s about only half the content, I’ll have to wait and see which games are on the subscription only plan. This makes the subscription a little less inviting to me. I guess licensing makes the difference there.

Hopefully games like Hard Rain and the uncharted series can make it to the streaming service, as these are the games the new PS4 adopters would love to play. Once the JRPGs from the PS1 and PS2 days make the streaming service, I’ll be more apt to purchase then.

I have enjoyed the NOW service, however, on my PS4. When I’ve used it, it really does play well and I’ve been amazed with the results. Right now, there are just too few of titles that I would actually want to play.

For those saying the price is too high: it’s the same price for a year’s subscription (using the 3 months option) as it is to purchase only 3 $59.99 games a year (without taxes). In my eyes, this makes the pricing quite feasible. Even if you bought 100 used games at $2.00 each, it’s still cheaper to stream them.

  • $99.99 A year and I’m all in. I think its over priced 19.99 a month for PS3 titles, no thanx. Its right along the prices of competitors but you want to be better than the competitors and get everybody on board $99.99 would have everybody in.

  • Really interested in this. There are a few games from PS3 that I missed, but played the sequels of. For example Arkham Asylum, God of War Collection, and Uncharted 1. I really don’t wanna pull out my PS3 when I got this newer and faster PS4 with a better controller, so this is a nice remedy. And I super look forward to being able to play PS2 and PS1, (and maybe even PSP?) games on this. I do however think it’s a good idea to give a bit of a discount for PS Plus Subscribers. Like somewhere between 10-20%.

  • Awesome! Sony delivers something good!!! Peter, 1) where do I find the Playstation Now app so I can download it and start playing hundreds of games on the 13th? And 2) Could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add a page online where people can log in and make requests of games they would like to see brought to Playstation Now? I would love to see Beyond two Souls and Heavy Rain brought to Playstation Now. Also Batman Arkham Origins would be sweet, as well as Far Cry 3 perhaps. Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself. Thanks for the reply if you get a chance.

  • Please bring Final Fantasy 12 to Playstation Now.

  • It’s cool but will PS NOW ever give access to those who have downloaded and paid for hundreds of PS3 digital games but can’t play them on their PS4 unless they buy a subscription to PS Now. Kind of feeling left out.

  • January 13th?? Sweet! That’s the day after my birthday. This sounds awesome! I was starting to get frustrated with the seemingly low number of “full-sized” games available for the ps4 so this is wonderful birthday news. Thanks for continuing to do so good Sony!

  • Will DLC be included with the games?

  • When will PlayStation 4 games be added? Also when exactly will the subscription be available on the PlayStation tv?

  • AWESOME JUST ABSOLUTELY AWESOME CANT WAIT FOR THE PLAYSTATION NOW SUBSCRIPTION TO LAUNCH I ALREADY DOWNLOAD THE PLAYSTATION NOW THEME ON MY PS4 AND I LOVE IT THANKS A LOT SONY YOU GUYS ARE THE GREATEST
    #SONY FAN
    #GREATNESS AWAITS

  • will there be online multiplayer for games like Saints Row The 3rd

  • Well, i was looking forward to trying out the ps now service until i noticed at the end that they want a credit card in order to get the trial.
i don’t have a cc, i pay for my ps+(been a subscriber since launch) via ps+ three month plan cards and store cards.

this is too bad cause i won’t spend 20$ or 45$ to test to see if my internet or if the service is good.

If i like a service i will spend $…to bad Sony decided to alienate i large portion of their customers by asking for a cc.

    oh well!

  • they should at least have a Demo!

  • Say you choose to play a game such as Saints Row 4, can you still play online with it if a friend of yours has playstation now aswell?

Also I have looked at some of the comments and I do like the suggestions to put in 1 year subscriptions as well as giving PS+ members a slight discount.

Excited for this to come out so I can play some of my favourite games from PS3.

  • I have to agree with a lot of people on here. $20 is just a bit too much for one month. Especially since there aren’t any of the HUGE blockbuster titles on there right now. I’ve seen games on there that I played on the previous gen, but the ones currently on PS Now are the ones I played to between blockbusters. Get Bethesda stuff on there like any of the Elder Scrolls or Fallouts, as well as the older Final Fantasy games, then we’ll be seeing stuff worth $20 a month. For now I’ll stick with the pay as you go, and play the few I missed that have since caught my attention.

  • This sucks, as it stands now, with the subscription we pay, we still won’t have access to the full library, just 100 or so games. Rip off

  • Will you ever make it where the newer models of ps3 can play ps2 games? I hope so.

  • Where did metal gear solid HD collection go?

  • Where did the metal gear solid HD collection go?

  • Price seems a little high…would be nice if there was a Plus discount..

Also, you said new games would be added regularly? Does that mean they will be removed regularly as well? I hate the idea of being in the middle of a game, only to find it’s been removed the next day.

  • I was somewhat interested in this service, until I noticed that the subscription doesn’t include all Playstation Now games. Only a certain amount. From what I’m seeing here, you only can unlimited access to SOME titles. Heh… no thanks Playstation.

  • with my + about to run out on 3-15 i’am not looking to re-new it really about to seal my ps4 and get off games due to price never being far to the players all you want is more and more money for poor support and junk games that you never fix so the players can fell as WE matter to you not just OUR money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The only thing this is missing is to pay by the year. I would pay $100 a year for this. Paying $44.99 every 4 months adds up to $179.99 but I don’t mind paying $100 a year because I’m getting over 100 games to play for a year.

  • When today will it be available?

  • Yeah, when today will it be available ??? Im rly excited and cant wait!!! Someone HELP, PLSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sony what time will ps now subscription be active and second add voice chat to ps now games

  • Ummm….it’s January 13, I have checked the PS Store, and possibly everywhere else to subscribe to PS Now, and I can’t find how to do that anywhere. The only thing regarding PS Now in the PS Store is the PS Now Dynamic theme. What is the deal Sony, you said PS Now would be launched for PS4 today? Please some answers would be nice!

  • I’m looking forward to playing Uncharted because I never owned a PS3. When is PS Now supposed to launch today?

  • 7 days free ps plus subscription for ps4 owners will probably start at like 6pm but on the last day we have it , it will end at like midnight or 1am which is crap

  • Once you get PS1 and 2 JRPGs I’m all in!

  • So once it starts how do we actually receive the free trial of the service?

  • Where are people seeing that you won’t have access to all the games? I’ve read this several times and see nothing that mentions that.

  • According to the PlayStation Now FAQ, there should be an app for the PS4 that you can download and that will give you instructions to start the trial.

  • ok its the 13 where is this

  • So how do I start the trial or even pay for the subscription? There is nothing and the “app”: that the faq takes me to is just the Dynamic Theme you can download for the contest to win a year. Not really gonna help, so where?

  • Don’t think this question has been answered but if I have a cloud save from my physical copy of god of war or something.. Will I be able to access my cloud save from a game I am streaming on PS now?

  • Where is justice? I bought my PS4 only for JRpgs and PS now, but EU dont haw PS now only US. So where is any justice? no?
