PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.

You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.

PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:

PlayStation Now subscription (US)

There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.

  • W o w…, I´m looking forward to try this service, there a so many games I wanted to try before moving on the the next gen, but now I don’t have worry about catching up games I missed, I only wonder when this service will be available to other countries. Any answer?

  • It looks okay..the 1 month subscription especially…I would like to try PSNow but I don’t have the internet required for it.
Would like to try some old PS3 games,oh well I still have my PS3 with tons of games and I will never sell it…so no problem for me at all.
My problem will start when PS1 and PS2 games begin to be added to the PSNow library.

  • Does anyone know if you can take screenshots or even save videos of streamed PS3 games from PSNow?

  • Sure, throw another 100 games on top of my backlog. It’s not like I already don’t already have a large enough backlog. I wonder if I could catch up if I just stopped going to work.

  • hi maybe to improve this is by putting in better games like bo1 r bo2 u might get more ppl if u do this plz reply ;)

  • While I like the idea of streaming games on the SONY Gakai server (Meaning we can play games that would normally require much more power than the PS4 can handle!) – I am pretty disappointed by the fact that we would have pay to stream games that we already have on the PS3, PS2, PS VITA, PSP and PS1.

Why couldn’t you include some kind of option in the PS NOW app which allows us to play our existing PS3 and PS2 and PS1 discs on the PS4? And also give us the option to stream the games we haven’t got?

The fact that some of the games aren’t even in HiDef 1080p on PS4 still, when a console like Wii U makes almost it’s entire library or games in HD, and is backward compatible and only has 1gb of Ram and limited graphic power compared to the PS4 which has 8GB or ram and a wicked graphic processor – Doesn’t that make your customers think they are being pushed around a bit into purchases that really have added no value to their collection?

I am a faithful PLAYSTATION and NINTENDO user and have been a customer since the first PLAYSTATION – But I won’t be using PS NOW unless you decide to add value by letting us play our previous PLAYSTATION console discs on PS4.

  • sorry but why i have to pay for games i Already have and i cant play on ps4

  • I won’t even touch this service unless there’s a price drop and a yearly subscription model added. I would do $60 for a year subscription. Hardly any one used this service before and it will continue to be that way unless you fix your subscription model to be more in line with what the consumer wants, this is currently not very appealing.

  • Although the process of access the PS Store purchased games for free is not available, but it should not be put on the back burner and be forgotten either. I believe that the fans of this brand (like myself), have purchase hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of games, applications, themes, content, add-on, etc. I do not know what others think, but my big concerns when purchasing digital content, the chances that it would not be adaptable to future devices. For example, when the PS3 was released in 2006, and it initially had several PS1 games available, not only the original game saves that was created on the disc-based Ps1 game, worked on downloaded PS1; but also within a given time that same downloaded PS1 game was accessible on PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. I admit that I was looking forward to seeing the wheel being re-invented with the PS2 games, but that was not the case.

It is nice to have the process available, so that whenever we make purchases within the PS Store, we are keeping our investment and it will become accessible on future devices instead of holding devices that will become obsolete in the future.

And BTW. Can EU and JPN only games can be added onto the PS Now as well since it is a streaming Service?

  • Sweet deal for gamers like myself!! I can’t believe it!!

  • Now just tell them to stop making me go to store to watch shows I bought on ps4

  • To expensive for my taste really…if this was $100 for a year of Plus and Now…I would have definitely done it no question…but $45 is to rich for me.

  • If SSX Tricky is not added to the list then count me out!

  • So instead of backwards compatability, $ONY will instead provide you with a $240 per year service so you can purchase games you’ve already paid for via the ps store previously……wow, best customer shafting so far, pat yourselves on the back.

  • I just wish it would come to other regions like nz and Australia.

  • A trial? NIIIIICCCEEE!

PS: You should really emphasis on the trial, like.. a post ONLY ABOUT THE TRIAL! People love trials (like me)!

  • Now just need a Year Subscription or include it in PlayStation Plus with a slightly higher fee

  • I’ve been a customer with you guys for like 10 years or more and I’ll just add that I can’t ev

en get a response from you guys lol

  • Nice idea but I already shelled out $60/PS3 game. I think I will just keep both my PS4 and PS3 systems plugged up.

  • You should have different subscription options, at a lower price. What if I want to try maybe 1, 3, 5+ games a month instead of unlimited? 20$ may not attract everyone.

  • I am on a sub-account since I’m only seventeen. One of the frustrating things about it is that I can’t get PS Plus benefits on my Vita or PS TV since it is only one PSN account per device. Will I be able to subscribe to this service on my sub account? I don’t want to switch my Vita and PS TV over to the master account.

  • On one hand this is better as the prices before were too high. But what if a user only wants to play a few selected titles, wouldn’t it be better to have the option of either subscribing or renting specific games if you only intend on playing a handful of games. As if i only want to play one or two titles on offer I would much rather just rent them then have to pay a subscription fee when I don’t Intend to use the service that often.

  • Why not have a lower price for those people who make payment now, or maybe for the first 5 days of the launch. After that the price rises for new subscribers. Most launches reward those who take part early in the game.

  • This is just under £10 for the UK. Netflix here is currently only £6 a month and has a much larger library than what you (Playstation/sony) will have for a long time most likely. I can’t apprehend paying nearly £120 a year for this subscription when I have already paid £350 for my PS4 and £35 a year for my playstation plus subscription, not to mention I will still have to pay £50 every time I want a new PS4 game to play. Very overpriced in my opinion. I wouldn’t pay more than £6 per month for this considering how many games will be available to play and taking into consideration how much netflix costs.

  • I like the idea, but I doubt this is a great value add to existing pa+ customers. I got 1 yr membership for $50 and now pay another $30for 3 months membership?!? I don’t get the marketing plan. I wasted my ps+ membership then!
Or is this offer for PS+ members only ?? If so, still it’s not cool. I feel existing members should get a bonus discount on membership.
EA sports couldn’t make it to ps+, was this the reason behind it? I wonder ?

  • Hey will you be able to access your previous saved ps3 games from the cloud to use on ps now?,if not you guys should look into to it I think it would help out alot. I think the subscription is a tad to high when it comes to the competitive aspect. Especially seeing that PS now is not at it’s best. It’s a great service but it’s still in the beginning stage so keeping the prices low will attract almost everyone. Question for you sony. Will This Ever Evolve Until STREAMING NEW games. Keep Up The GOOD work.

  • What a blatant ripoff and a slap in the face to playstation owners. People are already paying $50 a year just to play online now Sony expects us to pay for a $180 a year on top of that for PS Now. Not worth it.

  • Very kool Although kinda pricey imo. They should have always had a subscription option. I think they should include it in PS+ to be honest or give you a PS+ & PS Now included option for $99 a year. $40+ for 3 months is too much as is $19.99 for a month. Now if they had tons of PS2 & PSX games included with the PS3 games maybe

  • sush9 it is not to stream games you already have. It is to stream games you do not have lol Why would someone pay to stream games they already have? It is to play games you do not have of course.

  • rafaelgame1 you do not have to pay it. It is pretty kool imo backwards compatibility without having to pay extra for it if you do not want it. There are plenty of PS3, PS2, PS1 games I missed that I would pay to play on PS4 once I see them on PS Now.

  • This a good subscription plan for those who never got a chance to play most of the last-gen console games.

  • Im waiting for legend of dragoon to be on the ps1 lineup
    that would be great!

  • Hi I just watched the trailer on YouTube and I love the idea of playing PS3 games on PS4 since I am an avid user and I buy most of the games that come out every year. I was thinking that maybe it can be made later into a rental service for PS4 games too since cost can sometimes be a problem with having to pay for ps plus in addition to games I have had to borrow a few games in the past year from friends because of this. I also find I trade my games into Amazon or GAME after a year to free up storage.

  • Will Demon Souls be on Playstation Now? Considering Bloodborne is coming soon.

  • If you guys add The Old Cods That would Sell Subscriptions any plans to?

  • Much better on the price side, for 1 month that is. At least better than paying $4 for just 4 hours. I hope more games are added over time if I even want to spend $44.99 on 3 months.

  • Hmm…cheaper than Gamefly and i don’t have to worry about waiting for anything to be mailed out? I’m definitely interested.

The make or break will be the game selection available. Would love to get back into Skyrim & Borderlands 2. and would also love to get into Batman Arkham Origins & some games that came out after I upgraded to PS4.

  • anywhere we can find a list of games that will be available at launch or games scheduled to come to the service?

  • I think this is really great, only thing that would kill this is buffering issues i suppose, luckily cause im a gamer i have the best internet and package money can buy for MY AREA at 50 mb/s so if it streams normal i shouldnt run into one single issue on that front in theory, would like to see a little more popular games from last gen like red dead redemption,or even gran turismo 5,like another user was saying about pricing compared to gamefly there is one difference besides this is streamed and gamefly is mailed is with gamefly i can get ps4 games at the 19.99/mo price where this is ps3 and back.
So maybe a little pricy imo but ill try it and see if it appeases me or not, great way to play some games i may have missed who knows maybe some will get me into the franchise and i buy upcomers from them.love the concept so far thanks sony for at least trying to move towards the future in gaming on your own.

  • Hello, I just want to say first off, at the start when it was first spoken of before beta I though this can be a great idea.
A twist of new school gaming (streaming, no downloading or installing) with the option of old school titles from prior consoles all on the next gen console PS4.

At first is sounded to good to be true, now seeing it’s finally slated to be unveiled on the 13th of January in the N.A US and Canada, it’s a bit Bitter sweet.

The subscription price list is joke, IMO, especially for the game list that is slated for opening next gen service as such.

Let’s be honest, this list isn’t “great titles the PS3 offered”, the titles I see here are titles I played on my PS3 and wouldn’t think of replaying again, titles that made their money on the older console and that have been re-hashed for the next gen, so they can recycle the title and Sony as well as the Devs of the title can cash in once more on the wallet of the consumer, it’s a business I’m sure their will be kickback and kick up respectively.

  • Back to the idea, I’m sure it was established because other companies (Internet or retail) (gamefly,GameStop) have been doing it in to sony’s sales over the years, but this price is a bit far fetched. Granted there’s no wait, as the service is PS NOW, unless you are new to gaming, you have already paid forward once for these titles, and will be doing so once more, and that doesn’t sit well with me personally.

  • Well I hope some of the games being released were some that were announced as ps3 only when the ps4 came out quite a bit before their launch date(KH2.5 Remix as an example) and I also hope that we can get some other good titles as well. I can’t be the only one who wanted to see Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in time on there.

  • So, let me get this straight, you can pay 20 dollars a month (240 dollars a year) or 50 dollars every 3 months (200 dollars a year). Why no yearly subscription? I think its better if you remove the 3 months and make it a yearly subscription and make it about 150 dollars a year, then I would definitely think about this (and of course if you had the game I wanted to play). Is there a list of the actual games that will be available?

  • hi
if i get ps now on my ps4 will i be able to play certain ps3 games?
    example: GOD OF WAR ASCENSION

  • I think they should have stayed to the game by game model they had in the beta. I think this is a little overpriced. Have they even said what the games will be.

  • Nice! Have read that games will be added monthly and saves will be cloud based which is excellent news, is there however the possibility that games will be removed off the service monthly aswell.

I don’t want to be halfway through a game and lose the ability to play?

  • FOR PS NOW TO BE AWESOME THEY NEED TO MEMBERSHIP PLAN LIKE $ 10 A MONTH = 120 A YR $ 25 EVERY MONTHS = 100.00 A YR. MORE PEOPLE WOULD SIGN UP AND ENJOY THE SERVICE BETTER. INSTEAD OF $ 20 A MONTH = 240 A YR $ 45 EVERY MONTHS = $ 180 A YR.

  • playstation #1 the best thanks for everything playstation #1!

  • Any chance the fallout or elder scrolls series will be available on playstation now?

  • Hey don’t give more money to Sony its bad enough to pay 50 bucks a year to play on the ps4 online and Sony is telling me i can’t play my ps1 or ps2 cause the hardware can’t emulate it for 400 bucks the mother****** better play Ps1/ps2 but no Sony is becoming like Microsoft finding new way to get money out of you thanks Sony
