You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.
You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.
PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:
There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.
Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.
Will this service allow users to stream games from other regions like EU and JPN? It would be the biggest reason for me to purchase this service. Being able to play games from other regions would be a great addition!
I am much happier with the new subscription process. However there are some things I still want changed, I exchanged my PS3 to upgrade to next gen, but games that I bought on it are still linked to my PSN Account. Example, Sonic 4 Episodes 1 and 2. They are available on PSNOW, but I still have to pay to be able to play them on my PS4, which upsets me. Same for games like Batman Arkham Origins. I hope this is taken into account in the near future.
$180 a year on top of a PSN+ subscription? That’s way, way, WAY too much to be asking. Especially when Playstation Now provides a lower game resolution, decreased framerate, and no surround audio. Forget it.
So I know a lot of people are complaining about the price, but I think it’s amazing! 100’s of games for just $20? I have gamefly atm and am paying $25 a month for about 4-6 games because I have to wait on the delivery and mailing of the games…. so me personally I think this is the best deal atm, but yes I would have preferred backwards compatibility.
Overpriced? seriously people. most of these games are 15 bucks+ new. I can easily finish 1 game in a day or two. and anyone can. 15 games a month for 20 bucks. 15 with 3 months sub. not bad. its quite good actually. though they should offer a 1 year sub model for say $120.
I will get a subscription
I like the new subscription prices. About the same price a subscription MMO. I can’t wait to be able to use this on the PS VITA!
I’m so happy to see the service finally in the next phase. I was beginning to wonder if it would ever happen. I know that I and the rest of the PlayStation family have been wanting this since we first heard of it. The price is still a little too steep, I mean realistically you can’t ask for $50 a year for PlayStation Plus and then ask for almost the same amount for a quarter of a year for this new service. Having said that when it is in its final form with the whole PlayStation library 12 and 3 and( portable with fingers crossed) then I would gladly pay that kind of money meanwhile I think 60 for six months hundred for the year makes more sense. Anyway thanks guys for making this possible it’s super awesome and PlayStation continues to amaze me and make life better
I just rented Rainbow moon for 90 days. What happens when the subscription service starts? Do i still get access to rainbow moon for the 90 days I paid for or will i have to subscribe to continue playing? If so i’d like my 6.99 back and you can shove ps now up a space.
Way too expensive if you calculate the total both ways for a year. I would rather pay another 49.99 on top of PS+ to have access for a year. Or buy a discounted bundle with PS+ and PS now for 79.99 for a year.
Love this idea love my ps4 but the only problem I have with it is that the games are so big and you don’t have enough memory for them can something be done about that or should I just change my hard drive
This is way too expensive for how much use I’d be able to get out of it. I would get occasional subscriptions if they were $10 per month, and a constant subscription if it was $5. As a single parent, I just can’t play enough to justify the expense (and my son doesn’t like to play). Maybe offer a tiered subscription, so for half as much, you can play 2 games per month of your choice unlimited hours. That way there would be an option for the more hard core gamers, and one for people who don’t play as often.
For Europe territory? Still nothing? I asked u again before (some time) and still no answer about what happend with PS now and Europe. I only read (LATER). Any ETA ??
Is there any chance their are going to be games for the Playstation Now Subscription on the psvita?
Awesome, i cant wait to try this…….if it is possible is there any way chaos legion from ps2 could be put on playstation now that was my all time favorite on ps2 besides valkyrie profile 2 :D
What go on home not in
This is awesome…. I will not be using it now… or soon… but I know once I move my PS3 out I will be getting this…
Right now I have to many games on my pS3 but once PS NOW opens up with games from ps and ps2 and so on I will be getting this subscription… this is just to awesome…
Hold on Hold on Hold On…. Like back in block buster days where we’d pay for a membership then rent the games. But we just pay the subscription fee? Then have full access to the catalog? PSHH you’re joshing me aren’t you? haha. Sounds good on paper. But there are a lot of concerns of stability on streaming video games I just can’t seem to ignore.
As time goes on and more games get added, do the older games get swapped out or is there plans to try and get every single game into it from all PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and Vita games?
@Mufffluffins, unless I am mistaken, the subscription is just another pricing model for Playstation Now. Your Harvest Moon rental period should not be affected by the subscription service.
$180 per year is too much, Subscriptions is a step in the right direction whoever came up with the original idea for the pricing should be fired. Most of the games in PS now I could buy for $5-$10 at resell stores / flee markets paying $$$ per hour was crazy talk.
This is just not for me not yet. Price still too high just not enough content to justify the price. If they implied that you could stream digital PS3 games you own too PS4 that would be a big sway in me buying.
Ha. So close but no cigar. Even though my physical copy sits right next to my ps4, I now have to pay 15 bucks a month to play it. Or a used/new PS3 every year.
So disappointed at PS4 so far. Wish my PS3 wasn’t dead.
Why can’t I use my PS3 media remote?
Why did you spend all that money on PS3 streaming when you could have just built it in.
WHY CANT I ORGANIZE MY ICONS?!?
WWHY CANT I HIDE APPS I WILL NEVER USE?!?!
Who knows.
PS4 games are the only saving grace. System experience is a 2 out of 5 stars.
Meh.
When you believe the service will release to South America?. The Playstation Now will being sell like a Playstation Now card?.
Thanks.
What would happen to the older digital copies that are already previously owned on psn such as ps3 games and ps1 games is there a cloud based to play those games?
do you have by chance any sort of timeline when we can expect the service in Europe? at least broad estimate will suffice for now;)
Perfect, this is EXACTLY what I asked for when PS NOW was first announced. You should really hire me as a consultant, for I am always right about such things. Enjoy your success, thanks for listening!
The problem with this, well, for me at least, is that, first, there’s no way for me to tell if the service works well without actually paying to rent something to test it out. Granted, I could pay a minimal fee and get my answer, but there should be something like a 30-day free trial period for PS+ members.
Also, paying for something that may work one day and not the other, I have trouble with. I have a PS4 and a Vita, and was used to play PS4 games remotely on my Vita all around the house, but since PS4 firmware 2.0, there have been stupid sound lag issues all over the place for me, and so I’m not using this function anymore. Thanks a lot Sony! Now if I pay for a streaming service, I expect it to work well, and not be broken the next day because some server issue or updated firmware or network infrastructure…
The price is also too high. I have kids, a day job, and I don’t game everyday. If you want people like me to subscribe and see value in the service, you need to price it at a “no brainer” level. I pay for Netflix, despite not using it everyday. But at $8 per month for unlimited access, it is a “no brainer” for me and is entirely worth the cost.
$15 for 100 games is way too much, especially considering that many of those games probably won’t be of any interest for me. Also, given the fact that I can’t even be sure the streaming performance will always be at a “playable” level (PS4 remote play is broken for me since the PS4 2.0 update, and yes, I’m talking local remote-play on the same network, it worked perfectly before 2.0) I can’t see myself paying a monthly fee above $10 for such a thing.
The subscription model is a lot better than individual renting though. It’s just too pricey for me to consider it a good deal. Also, the PS4 2.0 update that broke local remote play for me (and Sony’s handling of network problems) also adds to my doubts.
paying 20 dollars to play 100 games with more on the way seems too good to be true
what type of subscription service are we talking about here?
unlimited access could simply mean you can access the titles to rent
even after they’ve been changed out with other titles
or access to all titles to rent where as some would be restricted
iv looked through all the posts n replies
i have yet to see the most important detail of all
will having a subscription let you play the games without having to pay to rent the game?
it would be nice to be able to play our already purchased ps3 content from ps store on our ps4’s
with 2000+ downloads on account, there useless without keeping a hold of the ps3
if streaming is compatible then so should be store downloads…
come on sony !!!
Why Can’t u put Red dead redemption on play now
Im sry its sounds amazing, but screw this just make backwards compatibility already, we need psplus to play online, on top of ddos attacks, and faulty R2 BUTTONS
Oh yea how about yall make a way to reaquire already purchased content from ps3 to ps4? I have all my final fantasy back catalog and save data on my ps3 which a traded in for a 4 and can even play, show sum real custpmer appreciation please
You guys might want to change the preview text to this blog post. $14.99 for 1 month?
“PlayStation Now’s subscription service debuts January 13th. 100+ games available, $14.99 for 1 month or $44.99 for 3 months. Read More”
This is another money grab on the fact that there is no backward compatibility..
Don’t get me wrong, the idea is awesome but only because of no backward compatibility. I would suggest fixing the seriously jokingly bad messaging service for PS4 first though. How hard can that be?
There are a ton of Ps3 games I need to play and catch up on but with already paying for PS+. I can’t handle another payment; at least not this steep. Maybe if I had money to burn.
It makes more sense to buy another ps3 and the games you want to play separately. Every game in the list is a physical copy under a fiver pre-owned at game. Not to mention you will have a spare and better blu-ray player than the ps4. The initial payment will be a bit more but you would save a lot of money in the long run.
I really don’t mind going to the store to buy my games. Nothing like a bit of reality once in a while.
Hi there! I just recently bought a PS4 and I would like to know what the difference is between the PSN Plus and the PSN Now? Is one really better than the other. Just trying to get some information before I purchase one or the other. Thanks.
Will you remove games periodically or will the catalog just keep building up? Bioshock Infinite is the only game i miss from last gen and I’d love to have it available on my ps4 for good.
This is great and all but is there anyone up there working on ps4 exclusives. I bought a $400 ps4 to play next gen. Hasnt been a must play game yet. If i want to play ps3 games i can still play those that was only last year. This is getting frustrating. Especially since a couple of these titles i have on my ps3 they were downloaded for free from psplus and now your trying to rent them to me. I appreciate the innovation. Playstation has a lot of great ideas and this service will be great when a bigger catalog. I bought a ps4 over xbox mainly for the fact they are known for exclusives. Havent seen that. Titanfall has been the only original next gen must play exclusive. I want to see more in this dept. Thanks.
I just wanted to agree with others that the subscription is priced too high, especially when you add your PS+ on top of it. If a game is really good, I want to own a physical copy, then maybe a digital download if it’s on sale. And since this service is for PS3 games, many older titles you can find steeply discounted online or in a clearance bin at a store.
Also, if you read back and look at one of the red official responses, they said that there are 200+ titles to rent, but only 100 or so for subscription. Considering the rental prices seem overly high, that is disappointing.
The online experience has gotten to have way too many subscription services. Everybody wants a piece of your change. At some point, the pockets will be empty.
Haha I really enjoy seeing people buy into this service so easily. Makes me appreciate investing in a pc to avoid dancing to whatever tune Sony wants me to dance to. No matter how many games you try to throw in you’ll never truly own any of them. Atleast with plus you have the discounts that are worth the price of plus each month (along with free games) but this “rental service” is a joke
I would love to see Drakengard 3 from Square Enix on PlayStation Now. I’m a big fan of Drakengard 1 and 2 on ps2 I have not had a chance to play Drakengard 3 because it’s on PS3.
Not gonna say whether this is overpriced or not but I was hoping for a cheaper price… $100-$120 would’ve been the sweet spot. As it is, I could buy a PS3 and the games I’m interested in for that price and own them forever. Plus, now that Comcast has instituted the data cap in our area I think this would eat through that quickly.
Not worth the price at all. Why not do this way then; if your PS Plus Memeber ready you get discounts up to 50% off on select games doing sales, and all the rest of membership we get up to now.
PS Plus Membership – 50% off doing sales and rest of membership still. Normal Membership cost $50 still.
PS Plus Platinum Membership – Same thing like normal PS Plus Membership but you get 80% off doing sales and rest of membership along with PS Now thrown in it too. Special Membership Cost $60. If your PS Plus upgrade on membership would cost $10 for the upgrade then and it would show Plus icon but in the color of Platinum.
Wow thank you Sony i’ve been hoping there would be a subscription service for Playstation Now, and that seven day free trial is pretty smart. I’m still not completely sure on the price though, i’m not a really really big fan of Ps3 games but to those who are i’m sure this is a great deal.
It’d be cool if you could add something though like, if you currently have Playstation Plus already then Playstaion Now would cost 5 dollars, but if you don’t have Playstation Plus then Playstation now would go back to costing 15 dollars.
this service is killing the instant game collection of ps plus, now we are only getting indies or very old retail games.
WOW!I’m amaze with this new app of playstation but can u get free games on more like GTA 5
Should be part of the PS+ price, not an extra sub…OR if you pay for PS now then Plus should be free for NOW subscribers
I have to admit the price is a little off-putting and I was hoping PS+ subscribers would get some kind of break (a lower price or free access to games they already purchased on PSN over Now….) but I might give it a shot. Just 2 questions though.
1. If I subscribe to Now, does the subscription auto-renew every month/3 months? If so, is there a way to turn that off?
2. Are my save files that are backed-up with PS+ accessible on Now? Can I for example can I resume a PSN game from my save file on my PS3 and use that backed-up save file on Now?
I actually think the price is reasonable. The main reason I believe many think the price is unfair, might be because there are not that much variety yet. Me personally, I will wait a bit till a few more titles are available. I am really excited for when I get to pay PS2 and PS1 classics, once they are available.
I’m glad it’s finally going with the subscription based model. The price is right to compete with Gamefly…although Gamefly doesnt have downtime and maintenance as frequent as PSN.. I’m shocked there is no PS+ discount for it, too. I’ll stick with the free PS+ games for now. Hope it works out for you guys.
