A Holiday Thank You

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

• 27.12.2014 через Playstation Store приобрел игру Metro Redux, оплатил с банковской карты. При этом произошло списание денежных средств с банковской карты, а игра не загрузилась.

• @736 – but how is that any of your concern? Sony will make the decision they need to make with their next system through their market evaluation.

• @740 – it did improve the service for those of us that enjoy the IGC.
If you don’t then that’s really your problem is it not?

• @739 – that was a good read.
I’ve been apparently labeled a Sony employee for being logical and realistic.

One guy is spending days trying to say PS4 Multiplayer should be free and claims “it’s a scam” because “Sony can’t decide how to run its business” and they need to make “all their decisions” to conform to his standards.
On top of that, claims the PS5 business strategy would fail with pay-for-play online because of his expert market understanding of the gaming industry.

What a joke!

• Thanks psn :)

• 740,741,742…..
I couldn’t agree anymore….
#741. You make valid points and don’t let these trolls tell you otherwise..

#743..I hear you bro…In-fact I even warned them 39 minutes before the “first attack” ,But They transferred me to a Some Higher ranked to higher ranked employees in Corporate and wasted properly two hours explaining what will happen and said I found the source through networking..And asked why don’t they have Employees trained to look for claims of attacks and take them seriously. And yes am aware maybe many people may call and raise alerts that are False flags..

• @arlis77

0 games played on that account interesting…
Which one of you created a new account for the sole reason of agreeing with yourself? (See, i can be paranoid about the world too)

• But the way I spoke to them and I’ve been in college for over four years for Software and I work and build,Test Android apps For the Playstore with Google. They validated me…And guess what?…45 minutes later the server was down for a day I believe….I even gave them my email…They didn’t care one bit. I also stated because Sony is filthy rich and greedy. That’s why this mess is happening in the first place .And not only did a little teenager knock down a whole US Sony Northern Server and mentioned, They only threw a grain of salt at your Company and it Completely knocked it off the grid.
They have much larger scale dangerous Software I hear,And could very easily Knock the entire infrastructure down for months if they wanted too. Ref(2011)

• In the beginning this console was supposed to be a “Upgrade” from a ps3…Ps3 played movie formats through usb…And was to be Cross platform with Ps3…And the games we downloaded for Ps3 were supposed to be compatible with Ps4..
Well It’s kinda Weird at first. if you had A Hard copy of “call of duty” You simply booted it and would cost $10 bucks and download a update that would allow us to play content we already purchased for PS3.
Not ANYMORE..They tried by all means to make users pay for every aspect from music to movies now..Funny its has all this “Bloatware” we cant remove of like 20 movie stream apps etc..

• Like I said this is supposedly a “Upgraded Device” From Ps3 …And we have LESS options then the PS3 right now That doesn’t even make sense. If Sony wasn’t so Greedy and release updates to unlock the Usb ports so we can play our own Music,Movies Just like PS3..Buying this PS4 was a Downgrade in my opinion. We still don’t have 40% of the functionality that was mentioned long ago?
And btw I feel In theory they don’t owe us anything when the server’s go down, Because it wasn’t from them intentionally..But because of their lack of Security,,,And training to fix the issues, Your dishonesty is what has “The Users caught in the middle” and upset, And the people deserve to be. This equipment isn’t cheap.

• When Sony’s Technicians are scratching their heads And Don’t have proper skills to fix these issues…It takes them 4 times as long to repair a flooded network?, Your teaching the younger generation that your incompetent of even fixing your own equipment, And will loose customers, Which to me not Professional. Reputable companies try to implement free things etc..It’s Proper and shows a company actually has morals..And the false lies of what this Unit was designed to do at first…And your lies are what basicaly caused this.
So as I said before…People have animosity and feel lied too. A legitimate Company will not go broke releasing a free month of plus membership and given a in house membership..In fact it will show customers they care. A membership cannot cause them any negative impact on sales either…It causes growth in sales and profits, Because now users have the potential to actually use the system as designed and buy other game’s It would help gamer’s and show them that honest companies still exist.

• All I can say is…Get ready…Theirs many Users, Gamer’s..With Intelligence and have nothing better to do out of boredom. And have the potential to completely cripple your company, If they chose to…
And we don’t deserve to be in the middle and be victims. Some of us actually pay for memberships, And purchasing in game items..Most of the time the Owners of the games feel and hold Sony creditable to help customers..Were actually wasting money from some games From Purchasing items within games that are based on time.
You can Thank the good people that are genuine…There the real ones that just repaired their network after the last attack…..Wasn’t Sony that fixed it..Google, Research, You’ll find the truth….

Sony if you read this…Please have Spine and next time don’t lie to users and tell them their maintenance updates either…If our data could of been hacked “The people Deserve to know the truth” So if they were a victim they least have time to correct issues and change passwords before the damage is beyond fixing..
When Sony flat out lies on twitter about these so calked maintenance issues…Their Disrespecting and deceiving good people…One lie Leads to Another…..

• #750……
Now for you yes,Your very smart your read my profile..Are you kidding me lame?..Watch what I can pull from yours deal?..Obviously you must be the hardcore Gamer bully in this thread you believe…Unfortunately I won’t steep below me to argue with some little pimple face 12 year old. Should show respect to everyone unless they treat you different.
Not everyone in this world is who you think my friend….Trust me

• @ai Don’t pretend Sony wouldn’t want to go for digital download only. I’m pretty sure they would. It would mean the preowned market wouldn’t be a pain in the rear. The thing is a few conditions would have to be met first. The PSPgo didn’t pull it off because it started in the middle of the gen, meaning not all of the library was available for download. The XBO failed because MS was asking for too much, which included the premium subscription fee for online multiplayer.

• When i think of the way sony handles its customer service issues, i picture a fat kid surrounded by cake with his fingers in his ear, shaking his head screaming “i cant hear you, i cant hear you.”

• @757

Unless you’re a Sony shareholder, that isnt your concern.

“The thing is a few conditions would have to be met first.”
Not your concern.

“The XBO failed because MS was asking for too much, which included the premium subscription fee for online multiplayer.”
It failed because of the notion of DRM, requiring console check in once every 24 hours. Not for any reason you claim.
XBox has been charging for online multiplayer since last Gen and last gen xbox and ps3 were neck and neck in marketshare as of 2014.

You have no basis for your argument. You are flat out wrong.

• This thread quickly turned into players bashing each other..

• Just got a PS4 for Christmas and I don’t see myself using it much since I found out you started charging to play online. I almost got a gaming computer for Christmas and I highly regret not doing so now. I will be forced to play my ps3 and purchase a gaming computer asap. Sony is already making plenty of money and it is “absurd” that they would start charging for this. Games also charge for subscriptions, companies charge for internet and electricity, the games cost money, the console cost money. When will it end? If they can find something to charge you for they will. No wonder the sharing and piracy market is fighting back. This is about our human rights here.

• #761
I had a ps3 and my son has that..And I actually got a ps4 so we could maybe find better games..I don’t even play this unit much…I tried 2 games..And son is stuck on his ps3…I don’t blame him lol.

If I was into games more, And had a little more free time I’d play a Rpg if it was decent…..The Ps4 has tons of potential and I never owned a mac so I won’t even go there….

I’m new on this forum I was looking into the solution like many others with their code not working…
If your using this site off a smartphone (Android)..How do you like others comments?..Ty

#759
Be totally honest with us?…Do you trust sony and support thier most recent decisions? In your opinion?

• Hey I didnt get my extention, what gives Sony?

• @762 I am not surprised at all. I was expected to play Destiny once I got the PS4 but I get charged another 50 even though I had to buy the console/mic/game I can still play it for free on my ps3. Doesn’t make any sense. I was always an extremely loyal ps follower, even when I had over $600 stolen from my card when they got hacked, but I very let down by their greediness. As the creator of the original ps I feel like they had dignity to the customers and the next gen gamers. With this new quick release of the PS4 they now even had games rentals where you pay 3 bucks for 4 hrs of a ps3 game. Complete sell outs. Not sure if it’s the pressure of the stock prices or just plain greed but I don’t see myself purchasing another sony device in the future.

And did you get your 10% code? I haven’t received a code or an extension or anything. Kinda sucks how they just say sometime laster it will be applied so if you didn’t play every day you could easily miss it.

• Will those of us who received a ps4 for Christmas also qualify for this ? Even though we were unable to register our machines or create an account. This isn’t a complaint, just a question.
Happy new year everyone :)

• #761
Well for most businesses it’s a cut-throat world and always trying to have to release newer material and new options to keep up with other competitors…
But when companies start doing illegal acts for Corporate again they crossed the lines. Do you remember. “Sony BMG CD copy protection rootkit scandal of 2005–2007” Almost 22 million cds they sold had illegally installed root kits & DRM files on devices which were very hard to uninstall back then..Which ended up breaking many computers and Damn near every one was affected by it. When a company does something like so out of pure “Greed” They can’t be trusted..Once a thief always a thief…Or in this Forum..We have “Troll” Sheep…They convince us it’s normal..And will backup or look the other way so to speak…”Just like the little lost troll said”..I’m paranoid, But when there’s a 22 million people infected by Installing illegal software .on “YOUR” PC…I most certainly would be cautious if you not Your an idiot.

• I appreciate the fact that you care Sony, but don’t you think that when something of this nature occurs, you should be able to to not only give back evenly what people were deprived of but also add on something of greater value to those who were affected. I am not complain! I am just curious why you don’t help yourself by easing all the tension brought about with something greater. You do the money! JOY TO THE PLAYSTATION COMMUNITY !

I found this Link..See if this helps what your seeking.
https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5412/kw/pick%201

• Thanks Sony

• What about my five days back on PlayStation plus instead of taken the piss by giving us 10% code as that just helps your sale for the year and not our own pockets

• So. Basically everyone is an idiot, if you’re insulting Sony for at least trying to make up for the hacking then you’re an idiot, if you’re defending Sony from the people who are bashing them then you’re an idiot. If you ramble on about how steam is better, then you’re an idiot. Basically everyone on here from page 2 onward is an idiot, myself included.

• So pretty much Sony tries to compensate for those already paying for time lost by giving a 5 day extension at some point. Then they offer a 10% discount of your total in your cart at some point in January as well. Literally offering more value than the time that was lost online. Then some people complain because they want even more. One even made a comment about getting something when they don’t play online or use PS Store anyway (I guess complaining about not being able to watch Hulu or Netflix?). So the company offering compensation period is the one people complain the most about even when it doesn’t effect that person really? Okay.

• My playstation store is not updating…

• SilentNova: I dont have ps+, and i dont use the playstation store. i do however play online, and wanted to play online for the little time off i had for christmas with friends. wheres my value? how is making me spend money i hadnt planned on spending just to save a dollar or two more value than my time lost?

everyone defending sony has already drank the cool aide and are ps+ members and ps4 owners. so yeah, you spend extra money already, i can understand you are happy with some discounts. some of us bought the console (ps3) just to play games online with friends. we got screwed for christmas just like the rest of you and we are not being compensated. fact. theres nothing you guys can say to change that.

• My thoughts:

1. It’s true that many people got their PS4s for Christmas and were unable to play online or use vouchers for several days afterward. I won’t say they are *owed* anything, but under the circumstances it would have been nice to include those people in any compensation package.

2. DDOS is apparently unpreventable (or at the very least, extremely difficult and costly to prevent). But there are still widespread reports of people unable to log in even now, weeks after the Christmastime fiasco. I’m not sure what should be done for them, but it’s clear the current offer is insufficient. Even if all that is needed is a few settings tweaked (making the PS4 your primary console, adjusting MTU, etc.), Sony should have made every effort to publicly advocate those fixes and still has ample opportunity to do so.

• 3. Even when people are able to log in, the PS4’s online MP is reportedly rather unstable. These reports are anecdotal, yes. But not to be taken lightly by Sony or those who have had better experience with it. If people were offered genuine tech support in these cases, Sony might be able to solve some of the issues people are having or even gather data to improve their services. (I’m not saying they don’t do this already, but there are also widespread reports of rude/nonexistent/useless service from Sony tech support.)

• Sony has already stated that they are working on the PlayStation 5. Which means they are not spending the money on making sure the platform they JUST released is the best platform it can be. And to think they are going to “waste” any more money on making sure the PS3 stays properly supported? Hah!

• @ Drewcifer419

Your Christmas was ruined? Really? Since when was Christmas about gaming online? Did you not have anything else you could do? Without video games, would you just end up staring at the wall all day?

As for the “time lost”, well, stuff happens sometimes, dude. Are you going to keep crying about it for months? Cut your losses and move on.

And, for the billionth time, this wasn’t Sony’s fault. DDoS attacks are an exploit native to the structure of the internet in general. No network is immune. If you really need compensation to soothe your imaginary wounds, ask the group responsible for the attack. Sony didn’t have to offer anything. And this isn’t “Kool-Aid” speaking (note the spelling), it’s just plain sensibility. You should look into it sometime.

• And, of course, If anyone disagrees with me, it could only mean one thing… YOU WORK FOR MICROSOFT! OMG SHILLS EVERYWHERE!

You get a paycheck signed by Bill Gates himself (!) in exchange for libeling Sony on their own forums… generating discontent among the user base by planting seeds of doubt into their minds about the level of Sony’s competence/business savvy, and repeatedly encouraging the disgruntled to jump ship by ending every post with “switching to XBOX!”

Straight out of the Microsoft Shill Training Manual, Chapter 6: Subversion – The Art Of Emotional Exploitation & How To Covertly Steer Consumer Desire Without Being Detected! You sneaky bastards!

See how stupid that sounds?

• @Drewcifer is another one.

In his mind, Sony shouldn’t invest in R&D for a future platform because that’s his expert opinion from understanding the video gaming industry.

Newsflash, when a product rolls out, its time to think about the next one. You think Apple dropped the iPhone 6 and is now just lulling around? No of course not, R&D is already in process for the next iteration.

• @Primerincognito

i have close friends from high school and college that have moved around the country. christmas was one of the very few times of year when everyone could have gotten on and played together, so yeah, my christmas was ruined. and who are you to tell me it wasnt?

time lost is one thing, not telling your customers you are having serious issues for two days, and even then only saying its down for maintenance, is time lost that didnt have to be lost. if sony had been up front about was going on, people wouldnt have been trying over and over to log into the psn with no avail. and what about the tons of reports of people being given the run around, and being hung up on by customer service? and the fact that the ps4 is still having connectivity issues? Sony has a horrendous track record when it comes to customer service, so until that changes, i dont think i will move on.

as far as my kool-aid spelling, holy-freakin-cow spelling nazi, have you seen some the spelling and grammar on this forum? if my miss-spelling of kool-aid is my worst crime, i deserve a pulitzer lol

• @ai

r&d is one thing, but sony wanting to have the ps5 out in the next 3-4 years is quite another. sony wants to churn out consoles like ubisoft churns out assassins creed games, and we all know how well thats worked out.

• @primer

my response to you is being moderated. i think because i have the word n-a-z-i in it. as in spelling n-a-z-i lol.

• Whats wrong with 3-4 years?
Playstation 1 – September 9, 1995
-5 year gap-
Playstation 2 – October 26, 2000
-6 year gap-
Playstation 3 – November 17, 2006
-7 year gap-
Playstation 4 – November 15, 2013

Chances are the next console will be due in 2018-2019

Seems reasonable and in line with me

• @primer

here is my response to you, minus the moderated part:

I have close friends from high school and college that have moved around the country. christmas was one of the very few times of year when everyone could have gotten on and played together, so yeah, my christmas was ruined. and who are you to tell me it wasnt?

time lost is one thing, not telling your customers you are having serious issues for two days, and even then only saying its down for maintenance, is time lost that didnt have to be lost. if sony had been up front about what was going on, people wouldnt have been trying over and over to log into the psn to no avail. and what about the tons of reports of people being given the run around, and being hung up on by customer service? and the fact that the ps4 is still having connectivity issues? Sony has a horrendous track record when it comes to customer service, so until that changes, i dont think i will move on.

and to sony: if you are going to bring gum to class you should bring enough for the whole class :)

• @primer

I agree with you in that the victim (sony) doesn’t owe the gamers anything more than what they lost. And no I don’t believe anyone should be compensated for lost video gaming time or vacation time but just compensated for what they paid for and that has been done ontop of adding a 10% discount.

That being said you have no dog in this fight, why even argue with these people? Why waste your time trying to help others see the point? There is a huge install base of 100 million machines and sony has 500 unhappy commenters a drop in the bucket and sony is not concerned about them why should you be. Enjoy your day and go back to gaming instead of wasting your time arguing valid points with people who will obviously never see them.

• @ai

actually in line with you would be more like 8 years, but thats ok.

the ps4 doesnt even have a serious library yet, and sony wants the next console to be out by 2018. i know you know better than i do on everything, but that seems a bit soon to me.

• Thank you Sony & guys. I’ll be waiting for my discount code :D

• @JustLu

lmao. i dont think you are the only one to state this, but its hilarious that because people on here are complaining they are the only ones upset. by that reasoning there are only three or four people who are really defending sony.
by your reasoning, there are 500 disgruntled customers and 3-4 defenders. just because people havent posted it here, doesnt mean they arent happy.

• *unhappy

• @763 Well, should I be hoping to see Sony go third party instead of pulling off a download only system in the future? You may not think it is my concern because I haven’t invested in them, but as a gamer, I have my concerns about some of their plans for the future. Example, I can see the decision of buying Gaikai backfiring. As for not having any proof, then how do you think Steam is able to get away with digital download only while gamers told MS to go file bankruptcy over what they tried with the XBO. There are a number of differences between them, and the premium subscription for online multiplayer is a big one.

• I didn’t get my 5 day free trial for my ps4 and I was woundering if you could shed me my 5 day free trail to me bye texting it to this number 5024718685
Thanks bye
