PlayStation Plus: January’s Free Games

It’s almost time to ring in another New Year, so let’s take a peek at what Plus members can play to kick off 2015.

PlayStation 4 owners can leave their pink neon mark on the city of Seattle in inFAMOUS: First Light, a standalone expansion to inFamous: Second Son that outlines the backstory of the troubled conduit, Fetch. Additionally, there’s The Swapper, where you’ll use a cloning gun to solve puzzles in hopes of getting yourself off a creepy space station. On PS3, you can unleash a lot of chaos in an open-world via Prototype 2 or take a trip down memory lane with the revamped classic platformer DuckTales Remastered. Finally, Vita owners can nab Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition so they can enjoy some first-person shooting on the go, as well as test their arcade game skills with the single-screen platformer Whoa Dave!

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting January 6th. If you want to see these titles in action, check out the video below.

  • I never got the chance to experience Duke Nukem 3D when I was young, so I guess this is my chance to see what the game is all about… Getting it on the vita should prove interesting…

Whoa Dave! Looks like a another indie which should cost $2-$5 but ends up being sold for $10 and shoved in PS+… Well its free so I guess I will just give it a try…

Lastly the swapper… The game was on sale for about $6 this festive period, thank God I knew it was part of the January lineup for PS4 since November, so am really happy I would get it for free… Thanks Sony

Now am just praying for Everybody’s Golf or FIFA to go on ps+… I think I would prefer seeing old games with higher value for PS+ than games that enter PS+ on launch

  • Cool! Cool! Cool! Cool! Cool!

  • To everybody who’s asking where the store update is for this week, there isn’t one. They announced on thier Facebook page last week that last week’s update was the last one for 2014. We’re not going to see anything until next week.

  • So glad everyone will get a chance to play the swapper

  • Now i waste my money buying infamous first light because now i can get it for free. Shoot!

  • That is a nice lineup, especially Prototype 2 on PS3 and Duke Nukem on Vita but you guys should just release the Driveclub PS Plus Edition and get it over with. The thing is ready and has been for a while.

This would also create less DDOS attacks, as these groups usually go after corporations with poor consumer confidence.

  • @101 Duke Nukem 3D is still available for PC

@83 Plus members already get discounts on games and such. A subscription sale for Plus is a bit rare.

  • too many indie games.

  • @105 The difference is, you don’t need plus to play it.

  • @108 Sometimes indie games are more fun than the AAA games out there. Something different to try.

  • Whoa Kristine, did you use the word ***. Seriously fetching.

Prototype 2 actually looks pretty good. Can’t complain for this months lineup, when it comes to Plus.

Now whats the deal with Resogun error? Tried both suggested fixes, neither of them worked.

  • Since i only own a PS4 nothing for me this month that interests me :) but thats okay i have many games to play and i dont depend on the free games its just a bonus to me.. hope everyone enjoys

  • @105 It was announced, like 2 or 3 months ago, that this would be coming to PS+ in Janurary.

  • BTW The Swapper isn’t showing on weekly deals FYI.

Had to show Curve a little moresupport, and didn’t want to miss the sale.

  • @111 Look into PS Now.

  • Sweet finally get to try First Light.

  • Infamous first light was such a good game, well worth the purchase. Great pickup for people who have not played it.

  • dang i wish prototype 2 was on ps4 also but infamous first light is awesome!

  • Good month for all 3 systems.

    Thanks sony

  • Catherine
    Splinter Cell Blacklist

  • Nice to know what is coming out for January as Plus games. Any chance of telling us the sales that you have during the month so we can prepare our wallets?

The only things I am interested in this month is Infamous First Light, Duke Nukem, and Whoa Dave. I have already platinumed Prototype 2 and am halfway through Prototype the first. his month isn’t really good for me but I enjoy the free games all the same. Hopefully have some sales on more digital games so Ican make most of my PS4 game library digital.

  • Best lineup in months (hopefully not all year!) and that is with me even have bought the Prototype 2 Blackwatch edition two weeks ago. Ducktales is awesome! Can’t wait to give Duke Nukem a try on my new Xmas vita once it is replaced (has a stuck pixel that is annoying as all hell). Happy new year!

  • Huh…didn’t realize that Prototype 2 was a follow-up to Prototype 2. Some sort of weird time paradox going on there.

  • This is an amazing month! Going to dive right into Duke Nukem. HAIL TO THE KING, BABY!

  • so duke nukem is going to be both the vita and the ps3 version? I was looking forward and saving my amazon gift card to purchase a psn store card to buy the ps3 version since I grew up with that game when I was on high school, but free is way better. That makes me feel a little better after the dissapointment of the 4 weeks of holiday sales and this week’s update (or the lack of it actually)

  • it´s not a good month for!!! duck tales it´s a remastered game, prototype 2 is not a good game and. the swapper reminds me a stealth inc. a clone in the dark. are games for a few hours, nothing more. infamous firts light, is interesting, but is a DLC!!!!
    what else … ahhh yes, i remember…
duke nukem 3d.. It is a game that has 19 years old. is too old, played it on pc, cell phone, ipod, and sega megadrive,
i think that after what happened with psn should have given best games

  • Gonna have to renew my subscription cause of First Light. I hope the sales are good for 2015 next month.

  • Great lineup! Too bad I own most of these lol. Still Woah Dave and Ducktales will be nice grabs.

  • OMG OMG but its bout time they gave us something i pay for playstation network and playstation plus and they been getting hacked every week

  • It would be really nice to give us DriveClub as you had promised many months ago.

I really don;t see why they are withholding it. It’s for sale and works perfectly, so why are they still not giving it away as promised?

  • Was going to sign up to PS+ but these games for PS3 are not good at all.. neither was the selection for December any good.

Spent the money at Wal-Mart instead on FFX/X-2 HD. ^___^

  • INFAMOUS FIRST LIGHT!!! Yahoo!!! im getting that, the swapper, and prototype 2

  • <3 VITA <3 REMOTE PLAY + DUKE NUKEM = HAPPINESS to last a YEAR! :-)

  • Oh my god I was just about to buy this Welp now I can keep my 20$ :D

  • @107
A PS Plus subscription sale means more months for $50.
Please make one, my subscription ends january 16th.

  • Thunder_Hokie:

Lizard warned XBL would be atttacked not PSN.

The reason your games did not work is because you do not habe your PS4 activated as primary

  • My God! I honestly can’t believe all the “good vibe” you’ve got for this lineup…this is freakin’ ATROCIOUS!!!
Now I understand why PS+ is becoming more and more a piece of garbage…is because of ALL THE (american?) BAD TASTE!

2014’s PS+ IGC? A bunch of Indies/Old games. 2015’s 1st IGC? A bunch of BAD games (that no “true gamer” should buy) and a SERIOUSLY OLD game…plus an overrated DLC.

Between PS+ going downhill…and the whole “cyber-attacks” debacle… are you guys/gals sure you’re not planning to sell 51% of your company’s shares to Microsoft? o.O

Kudos @126 “leoxeneize87” for being one of the few to actually “see the light” (no pun intended). =P

And Happy New Year to all my fellow Gamers!! ^_^

  • Can’t really complain about this month. Really looking forward to playing First Light, though I need to finish Infamous: SS first. The other games are some great freebies too, especially Ducktales, which I didn’t have the time or money to check out when it launched. It’s a bit disappointing that there wasn’t a new sale this week. It’s great that the Flash and Holiday Sale got extended, but for those of us who didn’t find much that we wanted last week, it’s a bit of a bummer that there weren’t any new deals added. Oh well. Please add a sale on some Season Passes soon, including AC: IV Black Flag, as you put the game on sale but didn’t bother to put any of the DLC on sale as well…it was a missed opportunity.

  • @137 Duke3D was actually released on many platforms since 1996.

  • I already beat Swapper on PC, and it was fantastic. I highly recommend it if you haven’t played it yet.
inFAMOUS: First Light makes the entire month worth it for me, but I might download Duck Tales for some nostalgia.
    Here’s my future IGC wishlist:

  • Where’s drive club?

Also doesn’t anyone else feel a little odd that they are giving us DLC and not a full game. Don’t get me wrong I own the game and am happy to get the DLC but let’s be honest I pay for plus for games. Full games not DLC. And just cause it’s a stand alone download doesn’t mean it’s a game one its own it’s still DLC.

    Ps where’s drive club.

  • Great way to start the year!! Im really looking forward to first light, considering I just got my ps4 :D

  • Just got inFamous Second Son. Nice to see I’ll be getting First Light for free.

  • I can’t believe it. The first good game on PS+ for the PS4 that ISN’T an indie.

    This has been long overdue.

  • now this is how you start the new year

  • Definitely getting Last Light.

  • I never got to play Prototype, it looked cool though. So that’s awesome. Also First Light being in my library for when I eventually get my PS4 is great. Those other games all look pretty cool too.

  • First Light I mean.. Happy New Years!

  • I’m glad that of all the games that are free the month after I buy them, inFamous First Light is. I was happy to pay for it, being a fan of all inFamous games. I’m also pretty curious about Swapper. This will definitely be one of PS Plus’s better months.

  • Thanks for First LIght, I rebought my infamous ss for $15 after trading in during the summer for $30 so it’s nice to get the expansion included with plus

the swapper looking interesting and if it available on vita that is where I will try it out. I was very happy with steamworld dig on vita and finished it so hopefully the swapper lives up to the good reviews.

Ducktales I will try, I hope it is good. The rest I have 0 interest in but still a good overall month despite some off ones.

Driveclub is very good for my tastes, I had a friend over and he was floored by the weather effects, lighting and the quality of the gameplay. I bought it for $40 after the weather patch and the ign Australia editor showing it off and talking about the game / review.
