As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

Idk if this has anything to do with psn being down but as i play gta v offline cause i cant get online, as i am playing in a mission or freely it will go to the story mode loading screen and take me right back to the first mission of the game like im starting a brand new game. Why is this?

The thing where you change the numbers from 1500 to 1473 only makes it work partially. It is not full access to PSN.

Psn is back up, for me atleast it is. I wasnt able to get on 5 min ago but had to restart my ps4 due to gta issues and now its back on, and rockstar is apparently down.
Getting a xbox do sounds good.. trade this bull in..least ill get my moneys worth with xbox..

They must either hire an attorney to defend each small claims action, settle or not show up in which case you win for the damages your asking. Cost of system, pain and sufferring, i.e. mental anguish, lost wages, cost of system etc.
Hit them in the pocket book. This I only say to do because of their total lack of customer support. Its not their fault they were hacked, but lies with regards to the system being online and not providing ways to contact are another.

Sony will be to blame is systems are compromised with regards to the supposed MTU code fix being posted on this very Sony Blog that they provide and monitor. Their silence in this matter will cause even more problems for them down the road. A company cannot bury their heads in the sand and ignore their paying customer base and allow further damage to be done. So Sony, if this fix your allowing to be posted on this blog is not recommended, reply to such.
Sony i need help with a problem. I.had gotten a ps4 for christmas and as im trying to sign into my psn network account it keep saying ”Cannot connect to the server”” (NW-31201-7) but when i put in a false dummy account it says Sign-In incorrect. I JUST WANT MY OLD ACCOUNT BACK

Changing the MTU to 1473 only managed to make the error message come up faster. So I guess now I find out your service still is down a little faster. Thanks for nothing Sony. Will be playing my new X-box tomorrow and using your system as a doorstop, considering that’s all it is good for now.
I think that now that Plus is not only a cool feature, but a need to play online, they should give some guarantee and we (users) in status of paid costumers for a primal service, should be given appropriate support for these cases.

It may sometimes connect to ps3, and my ps4 earleir, but now I cant connect to anything. Its really messed up that now they are making games to only play online. I miss the old way you can play offline.. I wouldnt care. This is a waste of money and I will be careful what I buy next time. I have the crew, nba2k15, destiny, drive club, and madden. All these games are online. This is bs.

Ya know I think in am the first to say that I think Microsoft is behind this. I know you are gonna say that they were hacked to but if you think about it enough it makes sense for them to make sony look bad with the console war this generation.

PS4 is still not connecting to PSN here in NY, rebooted router to see if it was a duplicate IP issue, and rebooted PS4. The MTU change worked temporally and could only play watch dogs online. Now nothing works. Tried GTA5, Destiny and BF4. PS4 is not fully connecting to PSN, not sure how other peoples are working.

Please go to: Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Use Wi-Fi > Custom > Select the name of your router > Type in the router’s password > IP Address Settings: Automatic > DHCP: Do Not Use > DNS Settings: Manual, Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4 > MTU Settings: Automatic > Proxy Server: Do Not Use > Test Internet Connection.
Still not working in PA. Changed the MTU and everything else suggested. Shouldn’t have to jump through a million hoops to log in to PSN. I’ll wait until there’s a clear cut answer/fix. Problem is on Sony’s end, therefore we shouldn’t have to screw around with our routers, etc.
I was just wondering what kind of compinsation you are going to give your faithful customers for the disruption. I would just like a promise for you to upgrade your systems. Seems like with all the billions you make you would have a top of the line network. But Microsoft was up before you.
I still cannot connect with my ps4. The money that was taken from me when I purchased gta5 digitally on ps3 then soon after purchased a ps4 then come to find out gta5 was not going to ps4 then after a couple months then they said hey we are going to ps4 I call you guys and say I half to buy the game agin. I am VERY disappointed at PlayStation right now; I’m what you may consider a “fanboy”; I’ve bought EVERY SINGLE PS console, from the Original PlayStation up to the PS4, including the PSP and the Vita; I’m always cheering for you guys and even justifying your short comings when it seems appropriate, but this is just preposterous; the DDoS attacks happened on the 25th, Xbox Live was online the following day, and today, we’re still reading in Kotaku that your service is still intermittent? WHO THE HECK HANDLES YOUR NETWORKING?!?!
When I bought my PS4 and started paying for PS+, I just assumed these common outages would decrease, since now playing online is a paid service, I thought you’d take responsibility and take proper action to get stuff working ASAP, bit I think it’s worse now.
Should I assume that you’ll reimburse all PS+ players for the days we had no service? When is the service going to work PROPERLY? Will your Flash Sales be extended?

I haven’t been able to use my ps4 since christmas eve, news just said it was back online and mine still isn’t working. I’ve attempted to contact psn customer care without any luck of getting through to someone, I cannot connect to the network/server, having trouble logging in, tried restarting my router and re-connecting to the internet, i’m just totally out of ideas and i dont know what to do. I’d like to know if anyone else is having this issue. Please Help!!!!!
Finally got I’m on the MTU 1450 remember resetting the sistem every time you go for another code

Playing Guilty Gear Xrd online yesterday and today so fun getting my but beat. Woooot.
The first thing I see when I get back on PSN is how my “Membership” isn’t good anymore and I now need to give Sony money. I’m assuming it expired but leaves a sorry taste in my mouth.
I haven’t sense a glimpse of online from the server even had Comcast up my internet speeds to make sure there’s no possible reasons as to me not being able to connect to the server. If this doesn’t clear up by mid month of January my goal is going to convert as many people possible over to Xbox one. Like I have spent more on my play station and features that playstation offers. For you guys to have this bad of servers? Invest in where you guys need to but come January my and my friends switching to Xbox one so. Let’s see playstation before Christmas and even after nothing from the server. And yet this is your guys “gift” to your customers isn’t pleasing.

@2826 that’s up to Rockstar not sony. Rockstar is the only who can charge you for the GTAV or make the port copy free. Also DDoSing has nothing to do with security, you can’t prevent it at all. The scale of this attack was bigger then the last ones lizard squad did. Some regions may still be affected by the aftermath. As for me its working fine has been since they said it was online.
Day 5 and my patience is gone! In the midst of no service Sony has the nerve to charge my credit card for afull yr of PS Plus! WTF Sony ???!!!!
So I finally have a connection to PSN… Go to playstationlifestyle.net and look for PSN log in issues. I tried resetting the MTU (to both number provided) with no results.
I power-cycled my router and PS4. (this means unplug each for at least 2 minutes and plug back in) Nothing.
I then rebuilt the database of my PS4 and tried logging in. Nope.
I then power-cycled my router and PS4 again. (At this point I should let you know that out of frustration I just unplugged my PS4 without powering it down). I plugged my router in and made sure it was sending a signal, plugged my PS4 in and turned it on. I was admonished for unplugging without powering it down… Howeve,r as soon as it powered up, it began downloading updates. So, success!
First thing I did was go to my power options and turned off power-saving modes. I’m not turning this sucker off until they get the network fully repaired. If I’m going to lose connection again it’s not going to be because I turned it off and couldn’t connect again.
I am currently installing all the games I bought myself for Christmas and doing the updates so I can play them at least offline if (when) the network goes down again.
Finally back online! New York (12-29-14) , 8:00pmEST local time. MTU reset back to automatic
