As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

catherine I still cannot go on and i recently just payed my 12 month online payment and it keeps on saying the server terminated what shall i do?
And I’m not saying that the initial going down was Sony’s fault. However, their actions after the fact was.
Question is Sony you claim to you restored services and us gamers still can’t not log in .. How about explain what areas you restored services too ! Is it that to hard for you for you to do so ?..

My boyfriend tried 1200 MTU and it work. BlackKnight687 tried 1450 MTU and it worked.
I can’t sign in to my PSN can somebody tell why I am having problems signing in i keep getting this error code NW-31194-8 what does this code mean and any idea when psn will be on.
I still cannot access PSN. 2 of the 3 games I cam currently playing require me to be signed in. If you were a cable service I would have already cancelled your service but since I have already purchased a PS 4 I am stuck with your service. I know this was caused by hackers but you have not seemed to worried about the problem or offered anything to the gamers as compensation.
Mine is still down it has been down since Christmas day!! How could I fix it?

I wasn’t talking at all about the whole initial attack but the fact that you suggested that it was people’s fault that they could not connect to the servers when some people could. Except if it is a server side issue or even an issue of a node in the middle, then it is not the people’s fault. And maybe you could say that an issue with a node in the middle isn’t directly Sony’s fault. At the same time, it would still be their fault for claiming that the PSN is online which is a misleading statement.

They must either hire an attorney to defend each small claims action, settle or not show up in which case you win for the damages your asking. Cost of system, pain and sufferring, i.e. mental anguish, lost wages, cost of system etc.
Hit them in the pocket book. This I only say to do because of their total lack of customer support. Its not their fault they were hacked, but lies with regards to the system being online and not providing ways to contact are another.

Very angry psn was working for me yesterday and now it’s down again.
This is now 3:12 EST ON DEC 29th. Most of us aren’t upset over the disruption but we are extremely disgusted by your complete lack of customer service. Phone line? DOWN. Automatic message that tells us to keep trying later. Chat support? Taken offline (presumably by Sony but since you don’t talk to your customers we will never know)
Nobody to talk to and your Twitter help,page is a computer robot telling us to power cycle our devices like the problem is on our end and not yours. Now your status page says “intermittent”, other users are helping each other wi the MTU temp,fix but no comment from Sony, yet again, about how this may or may not help/work or even compromise our own data
THIS HAS BEEN AND CONTINUES TO BE A PUBLIC RELATUONS FIASCO. GET SOMEONE IN FRONT OF A TV CAMERA AND TELL YOUR 110 million users what is really going on and what your are doing about it! Ever since the attack my PSN has been down, supposly its up, but mine is still down, so I rest my PS4 like it said on the blog but now it says it cant connect to the internet even tho my “Www” page is working. It keeps on saying it lost connection even tho everything else works. Can yall please fix it? I been trying to play my game for 3 days now and still cant.
You guys should read up on DDOS attacks. There’s nothing you can do to prevent them. More servers wouldn’t solve the problem.
Hate Sony if the three days you had to play offline affected you, but don’t ***** about their inability to prevent hacks if you don’t know anything about it.

I continue to get an error message np-34993-8 I try to restore licenses and nothing is happening truly frustrating for such an expensive gaming system what exactly did you guys fix? cant reach customer service and I cannot even chat online with a rep how are you guys assisting your customers……….

NO of course not because there is nothing you can do to prevent it, it’s not a virus, its just loads of data knocking on the front door of your internet and shutting it down on you. Norton isn’t gonna save your but. And since you can’t mitigate the traffic of all this false data, you simply gotta wait till they stop attacking and your internet stabilizes, not only that you gotta change your ip address.
Like i said Microsoft has more server more room to mitigate all that false data to, Sony doesn’t. its going to take some days to stabilize. Like I said this attack was at a huge scale that it even managed to knock down live for hours. Like i said microsoft has ton of servers, i want you to imagine the scale of attack now it took to take live down. And like i said even if sony adds more servers people like lizard squad will continue to improve their botnet volume to do even more bigger attacks. This is an Internet issue any of your favorite services could of been brought down by this scale of an attack.

Yes, plenty of good gaming companies, (regardless of how poor some of their other policies might be), when bad stuff happens, they talk with the players. It could be 2 AM in the morning at their HQ. And somehow, when they find out something is wrong, they’ll still send someone to talk with the customer base to explain what is going on. Often with an ETA or at least a: “Oh hey, we have no idea what went wrong, but we are trying to find out so no ETA until we figure it out.”
Sony’s biggest fault is their lack of communicating with their customer base through this. Maybe not their only fault, but their biggest issue is just the lack of solid communication lines.
You have bad information coming from Sony and Sony’s customer support-something that could have been prevented considering this isn’t the first time this year. This is not proper communication.
A simple hourly: Oh hey, we are still working on it. Would’ve been more than enough to make some, if not most, people think: Oh hey, Sony’s working on the problem.
Think of this this way. Sony thinks of the industry as a boardwalk empire. They’ll do anything to get their money.[Including charging us for not playing]. The only way to stop an empire is at the source. Furthermore, the only way to get Sony to fix the d*** PSN is to stop paying Sony. If workers don’t get their wages they quit. If they quit, Sony stops working. Then someone else takes over and Sony restarts and improves everything.
