As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

Hit them in the pocket book. This I only say to do because of their total lack of customer support. Its not their fault they were hacked, but lies with regards to the system being online and not providing ways to contact are another.

they are not to fault for a cyber attack. They are at fault for not giving timely and accurate information to its subscribers. They are at fault for not providing a means to contact them. They are at fault if the fixes listed on this moderated blog which approves submissions compromises existing systems because they choose not to say anything. Playstation is a great product, but no company or individual can charge someone for a product or service they are not receiving.

Sony will be to blame is systems are compromised with regards to the supposed MTU code fix being posted on this very Sony Blog that they provide and monitor. Their silence in this matter will cause even more problems for them down the road. A company cannot bury their heads in the sand and ignore their paying customer base and allow further damage to be done. So Sony, if this fix your allowing to be posted on this blog is not recommended, reply to such.

@ SupremeSniper04 Your welcome, glad it worked :) Sony should make better security for their network and give refunds to all the people who couldn’t get on because their plus expired during the down. They plan to take over xboxs network. Hope they have better security so it doesn’t happen next year during the holidays. Just ridicules that this happened.
@ lilbswagg I doubt it cause everyone’s trying 1450, 1500 and all different ones for the MTU. 1200 MTU is what my boyfriend is using right now and he hasn’t had problems yet so good so far.
@marshallman1740 did you reset the ps4 after trying 1450 MTU or 1200 MTU or any of the MTUs?

This is crazy the playstation net work is post to be online right the last time i played was on wed of last week to this day i still cant sing in to my psn smh playstation should of been on there job cause this is not the first time this happen when they hack it back in 2011 that took them like 3 months to fix the network and then when i call playstion hot line they tell u to call later or tom cause technical difficulties its pretty sad that we have to pay for online and it dont work still for some people
Hey Bobbo. Stop sucking dude or girl. Of course is their fault. Instead of providing better IT support and better quality for information security, they want to be cheap. Im a IT my self and if routers, switches and firewalls and other equipment is not cofigure the right way or added extra security measures, well they are welcoming hackers into their service.

@2494 Microsoft has more servers and a bigger infastructure then Sony, and even with that they were still knocked offline by DDoS attack. That should tell you how big scale of an attack this was. This has nothing to do with software or security,it has to do with who has the most servers and more room to filter and mitigate all that heavy traffic from DDoS attack. That being said even if you add more servers, DDOSers like Lizard Squad will keep increasing the volume of their botnets for even more bigger attacks, (which makes addings servers pointless) which is the main reason this one was the worst and actually manage to put down Live for a while. This is not a sony issue this is a internet as a whole issue.

Why? Because DDoS attacks work the way the internet works, they follow the rules of the road accept they go through in large heavy amounts of false data traffic to clog up the front door so you can’t get in. (DDoS attacks don’t breach security) If there is one way to stop a DDoS attack the only way would be to re write how the internet works and some how make the internet recognize when a DDoS happens to stop it immediately. Not only that but you have to install this new type of internet all over. So 2494 how about instead of being a coward, we start blaming the people who did this instead of blaming Sony, they’re is little they can do to prevent DDoS attacks, the same has been proven with XBOX live.

Great your in IT, but not everything can be planned for. New ways for these people to cause problems everyday. Problems with anything are a given. Problem create opportunity. Its how a problem is overcome and resolved is the matter. And allowing quick fixes to take place that are placed on their own Sony moderated and approved blog that others that are somehow able to talk with sony, say that sony does not advise this. They are in control, and they choose to bury their heads in the sand.+

To all wondering, the MTU setting change partly works to get you online and my son is finally playing Destiny. However, the connectivity is slow and even though he can play I notice the PSN connection is laggy when we’re in the main PS4 interface. Keep in mind this fix is temporary. Hopefully Sony can fix this entirely soon.
I have been a loyalist to Sony since playstation came out a bunch of years ago. I understand that your Engineers will always be a step behind whoever or whatever may of happened but I have to agree with some of the posts on this blog. The PSN network membership does cost money and truthfully a lot of us that have it are loosing out on utilizing this. My membership will be up in February and it makes me think is this worth the investment for another year or not. Remember whether it matters or not the customers are always right because that is the field you are in. You are providing a service for people and as difficult as that may be it is your responsibility to ensure that they are feeling like they are valued. So listen to what the bloggers are saying because believe it or not they do have PSN id’s in order to do this whether you like their responses or not you need to pretend you are them and understand where they are coming from. Please fix what needs to be fixed and respect your customers as you would like to be respected in your service related interactions by either putting out more statements or giving compensation for their lost service.

@marshallman1740 what did you put as at MTU? And you didn’t test the connection right? I have seen other posts saying they kept trying this until it worked.

Even if you claim that it is “your” fault and not “Sony’s” fault, the truth of the matter is that there are people who can connect fine to xbl, who have done all the proper actions (cycling their modem, router, and systems) and still either can’t connect at all or can’t use certain functions.
Some people can connect, some people can’t, some people can connect with limited usage and/or modifications.
So if you think about it, maybe it is Sony’s server side that is the problem and not the people’s client side?
That said, Sony might not owe us some great amount, but the fact is that compensation for at least the active PS+ members affected would be a good step. And decent compensation would be a good sign of good faith/good will.
What Sony is really at fault for is giving out misleading information. Not just this time but several times now. In this case, online means online for some, not online for everyone, not necessarily even online for the majority.

Was playing fine yesterday on my PS4 and PS3 online. I am still disappointed that PSN was down for 3 days and this wasn’t the first time this happened in 2014. At least we had 10 days or so of no PSN in 2014 if I remember correctly.
