As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

After playstasion said they were back up and running I still could not sign in after waiting for a answer from playstasion I gave up and found my own answer it took me 2 minutes to find what I had to do this is after doing all the things playstasion had said so thank you for your help not
changing the MTU to 1473 works! No fricking lie!

I bought the Dragon Age Deluxe edition from the flash sale, I keep getting a error code of ce-34878-0. I have deleted the game 4 times and reinstalled. still have the same issue. this happens as soon as I start the game. I just received my ps4 for Christmas and I have been having all the related issues posted in this blog, the messed up thing that I have tried was using my cell phone witch I can use as a mobile hot spot and connecting to the Internet that way. I can NOT use the wifi or direct connection (LAN) in my house only my cell phone but now that I have used up all my data on my service plan I can no longer connect to PSN. When will this be fixed I have tried call your support line and all I get is “you maybe having trouble connecting to the PSN, try again later” what kind of service is that. You need to help your customers. You are providing products and services, now service the product. Thanks..

DO NOT try the method of changing your MTU; I talked to an agent earlier and this is not advised. This is a temporary fix, and I did this 2 days ago, and now I cannot get back in.
For the love of god people, have patience, and or go do something else. Let them work; I feel terrible too. Friends are online, and I cannot play. Friends of mine who live blocks away from me who HAVEN’T CHANGED THEIR MTU settings are online and I am not.
Just say NO, and go about your business doing something else.
If it’s back up how come I still can’t log on? Love how you guys shut down your customer support when this cap happens. I am very close to trading my ps4 in for an xbox. This is ridiculous.
I am still having problems connecting to PSN via the use of my PS4. I know that this problem is effecting others as well, but everyone else I know have been to access PSN without any issues or disconnections. Every time I enter my login information click on “Sign In” I end up with the error code NW-31194-8. I’ve tried logging in to PSN for about three hours straight and absolutely no results. If PSN could confidently tell me why this issue is happening to me.
I THINK ITS JUST PEOPLE WHO JUST GOT A PS4 THAT ARE HAVING TROUBLE BECAUSE THE FRIEND OF MINE THAT HAD THERE ALREADY DIDNT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THERE SYSTEMS.

Already tried everything as described and nothing works, I can sign in on my ps3, but not on my ps4, tried LAN and wireless, always getting “The connection with the server has been lost”, or timeout. Crap service.

RICHYANDJESS, that’s alright unless you have an 11yr old bending your ears since xmas day after 5 days you will try anything.
Why is it every time I own a playstation the network is always a piece of crap and never works. I mean I used to own a ps3 and i got rid of it because of the crap servers and crap service that the playstation gave compared to the xbox. But I decided to get a ps4 over the holidays just so it could work for a day, and then immediately shut down from the server. Yet you say you fixed the problem, but if it is fixed why is it I am still unable to sign in or do anything through my playstation. The xbox runs just fine and never has any problems I don’t understand why sony struggles to keep their product working. After this experience I am tempted to just return my ps4, and just give up hope for playstations. I really don’t want to have to do that because I really would love to enjoy the exclusives for the system. I suppose I will give it a few more days but this is just unbelievable how many times the servers mess up, and not to mention the length in time it takes to fix it.
what’s really disgusting, is that they have the gall to charge us PS4 owners 50 bucks a year for the same twitchy, unreliable service that PS3, Vita, and PSP get for free…
i wonder why that is…why they chose to lock PSN access behind a paywall ONLY for PS4 users…and with absolutely NO improvement to service, priority for restoration, or any other benefit for the charge…..seems like a cash grab to me..

but I had tried Changing the MTU to 1450 and 1473 and this did NOT work for me I’m still getting NW- 31456-9 im so done with the PS4 im going to go exchanged for the XBOX1

They must either hire an attorney to defend each small claims action, settle or not show up in which case you win for the damages your asking. Cost of system, pain and sufferring, i.e. mental anguish, lost wages, cost of system etc.
Hit them in the pocket book. This I only say to do because of their total lack of customer support. Its not their fault they were hacked, but lies with regards to the system being online and not providing ways to contact are another.

@SupremeSniper04 well if your 11 year old is impatient, tell them to wait some more because honestly, it hasn’t worked since I changed my settings and went back to an “automatic setting.” Even when I do that, I cannot get back in period. Also, my games weren’t functioning the way they were supposed to.
I was told by an agent to not do this, their words, and my experience. Take it as you wish, but it’s at your own risk.

This is bs i cannot get online psn on my ps4 it’s telling me it fail I’m at the point to sell it and i had a PlayStation when they 1st came out.
Sony will be to blame is systems are compromised with regards to the supposed MTU code fix being posted on this very Sony Blog that they provide and monitor. Their silence in this matter will cause even more problems for them down the road. A company cannot bury their heads in the sand and ignore their paying customer base and allow further damage to be done. So Sony, if this fix your allowing to be posted on this blog is not recommended, reply to such.

I paid for PSN (and some new games) specifically for my kids to enjoy while they were here over Christmas break. Imagine their disappointment.
As a result of Sony’s incompetence, I have put that $49 PSN charge into dispute with my credit card company and encourage everyone else to do the same.
I hear you Richy, but they should take a position to say this. I trust you sir, and I had advised against this as well many pages back, however their silence is not acceptable. There is no chat available, no phones be answered, or when they are, disconnected once established. No emails answered, nothing. They have a company representative that could be easily posting a reply on this blog to state their case, but they refuse.
I need help from the community. I’ve been able to log in to the psn on both my ps3 since Saturday and ps4 since sunday. I’ve been able to complete a few purchases on the ps store but can’t figure out something. On dec 24 I got an email from sony with a free movie from 5 to chose tmnt, anchorman 2, transformers age of extinction, star trek, and wwZ. They gave me a voucher code but the code is 15 digits long and there is nowhere on the ps store or anywhere else to enter a 15 digit voucher code. please help.

If the MTU change is unadvisable then sony should come out and tell us this as people just want to get online and use what they have rightly paid for this will go down as a big xmas gift nono in future as they cannot guarantee this can and wont happen again seriously thinking of going back to xbox but then were stuck with a £400 bookend as they wont be worth a damn now
