The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

I just got my PS4 on Christmas day. I am logging in with my old account I used on PS3. It logs in, but tells me I have to update certain things. It gets to the end, then gives me this error: “An error occured during communication with the server”
This is getting to be absolutely pathetic. Last night, I could log on to PSN, but couldn’t play Destiny, CoD, Farcry, or GTA Online. Today, I can’t even sign in. I’m the only one of my friends and the people I know in the immediate area of where I live that can’t sign in. No matter what I do my PS4 refuses to connect to the server. I’ve cycled my system, all of my network devices, and still nothing. Get on your ****ing **** before I sell it.
I’m still not able to redeem my game on playstation.com
Does any of this have ties into why uploading game video’s won’t work either? I’ve had that issue before this ddos/lizards began their **** pulling.

Yeah I can understand that. Games where you can only do one thing in them get can boring quickly.
You could try to get some trophies. Or did you get any other games?
Otherwise, the only option for now is to wait it out. I know it sucks, but sometimes there is nothing else to do.
Play sports, play PC, hang with friends… There are plenty other things to do in the meanwhile ;)
I read a comment like “talk about generation of entitlement you should do something else besides play your games like hang with your family” and you know what you’re right i feel entitled when money comes from my account to pay for a service. I don’t care who the company is, if i pay you, i want my services. Call it being self entitled but i was raised if you pay for something you get it. Now it’ll be 5 days of no psn for me which means i didn’t get to see or purchase any deals for the holidays i couldn’t purchase anything for my brother for his console digitally and i for one do feel entitled to a game or something because its frustrating especially considering MOST games require online service to play. DESTINY, THE CREW, GRAND THEFT AUTO (even story mode is effected by online because i cannot purchase stocks or see certain stock options because of the online feature that’s required).

Now i came from xbox 360 but prior to that i was always a Playstation fella, i had the ps1, ps2, the psp, and a helluva lot of games for the consoles. I can only wood work for so long until i want to play my playstation or in this case just the station because there isn’t any play at all. Now servers says its online yet i cannot sign in AT ALL. i keep getting the same error code of nw-31194-8. So do I feel entitled? Yes I feel entitled to good customer service and good gaming experience considering the amount of money i’ve put into sony products and into this playstation 4, i average buy about 2 games a month if not more. I say expecting the best experience isn’t a irrational want as a consumer.

PSN down, again, this time for 5 consecutive days, over arguably the biggest holiday of the year nationwide. It seems a lot of customers are getting very nervous & wanna make sure you’re aware that’s a premium service that PS4 users PAY to use 24/7 year round via PS+ membership.
Anytime a premium service is down for extended days for whatever the reason, a consumer issued credit is not out of order. I am NOT asking for a free game, or a month PS+ free like many others, I think that’s asking WAY too much given this circumstance to be honest. I’m simply asking for what’s fair – an appx credit for the amount of days down and unable to use the network which we are paying for, which if you do the math, comes to appx $0.69 cents, might I suggest rounding it up to $1 as a sign of good faith on Sony’s part.

Sony, can you please do the right thing here, both ethically and professionally, and credit all your PS4 PS+ customers (who are REQUIRED to pay for the premium service to utilize online functionality) a $1 credit for this unfortunately very memorable Christmas experience/inconvenience? If not a financial credit (I understand how quickly that will add up), you have to AT LEAST rightfully extend all our current PS+ membership contracts by 5 days to credit the paid time lost. Surely this seems to be quite a fair customer value proposition don’t you think?

Several say they can already get, I still with my brother’s account without being able to connect.
Really Sony should be compensating its users in order to maintain the gaming industry. XBL has been significantly faster to hack attacks, but PS family really needs to have a PS+ or additional antivirus/anti-hack system period. but for real though, i could enter the codes, but could not download for a DAY, not hours, Days. May i remind you of your obligations to your users?
Still not working, I get the (NW-31194-8) error when trying to sign into PSN on the PS4.
Things I have tried:
1 – Reboot PS4.
2 – Reboot router.
3 – Change MTU to 1450 to 1500 with different values in-between including 1473.
4 – Tried different DNS servers (Google and Open DNS).
5 – Booted PS4 in Safe mode and selected option 4 to reset all settings.
The internet connection test fails at the Sign Into PSN stage.
Is Sony going to be providing some proper direction on this issue as it seems that over on the AskPlaystation Twitter feed the support has been very lacklustre at best with a ‘stab in the dark’ approach. Mostly being told to boot in safe mode and select option 4 or to power cycle the PS4 and router.
What about the 100’s if not 1000’s of people tweeting with the (NW-31194-8) error – it feels like our pleas fall on deaf ears.

Are we still going to get 2 free games
Not back online for me or my wife. She got a ps4 for Christmas and hasn’t been able to play it because her games are online. Since we share an account, that also means my games, Netflix and youtube are locked out, because I can’t sign in. Working fot a few friends, but not on our end yet. Tried resetting router, changing mtu, etc. No luck for us.

As frustrating as all this nonsense is, please tell the PSN community the steps you’re taking to prevent this from happening again. Completely frustrated at all my friends on Xbox are back up and gaming and I’m still experiencing connection issues. The PS4 is your newest system, how is it the one that you brought back up last?
Some people are changing the MTU from 1500 to 1473. Can that damage their console? They say that is a temporary fix until everything is back to normal.
Are you guys really giving 3 free games and cash to use on psn store due the the network being down?

No it cannot damage your console dolphins. Everyone having trouble. Do the manual connection trick, I used 1450 for mine. Make sure you restart your ps4 after you update the connection settings. Change untill all is fixed and then you can go back to normal.
Be really nice to have full functionality of the website…
