Freedom Wars Out Today on PS Vita

PlayStation fans, Vita aficionados, and “sinners” around the world — the day you’ve been waiting for is finally here! I’m extremely proud to welcome you to the world of Freedom Wars, which launches today exclusively on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV.

Over the past few months it’s been my pleasure to share Freedom Wars trailers, screenshots, character art, and information with you. Whether it’s been here on the PlayStation blog, or on IGN’s Podcast Beyond, you’ve responded with nothing but pure excitement. That’s why I’m so thrilled to share one final trailer with you — one that’s never been seen before, and that I think sets the mood perfectly for what you’re about to experience.

Are you ready to fight for your freedom?

For those that have been waiting to purchase the digital version of Freedom Wars from the PlayStation Store and want to take advantage of the Pre-Order items, we’re happy to inform you that the same DLC items will be automatically added to your Cart . Offer ends 11/11 so don’t wait!

But before you jump into the game, let me announce a few things here and now that you might not be aware of:

Firstly, patch 1.20 will be available today, so please make sure to update! This patch does several things, including:

  1. The addition of the online 8-player PvP mode, known in the game as “Vs. Operations.”
  2. The Elimination of the online-pass that was required in the Eastern territories.
  3. General difficulty tweaks and balancing.

I’m also happy to announce that we have several weeks of DLC planned for all of you, including free DLC every week until the end of November! Everything from weapon packs and hairstyle additions to battle music and sticker packs is on the way, so please keep checking back to download the latest content and keep your Sinner stylish!

Freedom Wars

But before I let you go to start working off that 1 million year sentence, I wanted to leave you with one final message from Junichi Yoshizawa, Producer of Freedom Wars from Japan Studio.

Hello everyone,

This is Junichi Yoshizawa, producer on Freedom Wars.

We’ve finally reached the launch of Freedom Wars for North America and Europe — thank you very much for all of your patience! I’m so happy that we’re finally able to get Freedom Wars into your hands!

Freedom Wars isn’t a game that’s just about defeating your enemies, it’s a game about “Reclamation” — saving your friends and civilians from the clutches of the enemies you face.

While you’re playing through the game, don’t forget the various cooperative and competitive modes that you can enjoy in Freedom Wars! The co-op mode will let you take on any Operation, whether it’s story-based or a specially timed “Redemption” Operation, with teammates via Ad-hoc or Online connections.

Freedom Wars

The latter half of the game can become a bit difficult, so please play with others in order to complete these Operations and finish the story!

I’d also like to share a little advice to those that are about to start the game. As you play, you’ll be able to gradually level-up the equipment of NPC characters you encounter throughout the story. From the “Window on Liberty” located within your cell, make sure to claim the “Comrade Loadout” entitlements for your fellow teammates — taking a well-leveled team with you into combat will drastically increase your chances of success!

There’s also ways to strengthen your Sinner by equipping “Augmentations.” As you proceed throughout the story, you’ll receive the ability to create these Augmentations — make sure to create and equip those that will be most helpful given the Operation you’re trying to complete!

I’ve already said a lot here, but I’m thrilled that we’re finally able to have our North American and European fans experience Freedom Wars.

Freedom Wars

We created Freedom Wars with the hope that every PlayStation Vita or PlayStation TV owner will be able to enjoy it.

So please, enjoy the million year sentence-enforcing world, the reclamation-focused multiplayer, the League of Panopticons, and the engaging storyline that make up Freedom Wars.

For the Greater Good!

-Yoshizawa

  • I love this game.

  • Would I still get a pre-order bonus code if I ordered today via the Playstation store? Thanks!

  • yeeeeeeeeeees vita sales are going up

  • lets go vita best handheld

  • I just got off the phone a few minutes? (an hour?) ago with PS Vita support. They said that the store is still updating and that once it updates, I should get the DLC. They said it would finish updating in 1 hour 45 minutes. This was about an hour ago? Hopefully, they were telling the truth. Otherwise….

  • I’ve started playing the game. What I’ve learned so far:

    1) I spent half an hour (ok, maybe less) customizing my character, getting through the opening sequence. There is no save feature that I can find. The instructions say the game saves when you return from missions. So you have to play an hour before there’s a save? I don’t like games where you can’t save on your own. Like the Souls’ games. Game decides when to save. I hate that.

    2) For those of you who don’t like hearing Japanese people, you can turn off the voice sound. Still have subtitles so if you really aren’t lazy about reading, you can read without hearing foreigner voices. There are also separate controls for background music and special effects.

    3) Lots of character customization. That part is good.

    4) I can’t figure out how to play this game so without a manual save feature, I had to lose all of my progress when I exited the game As you all know, you have to close a game to open another one on Vita. Or to update the system software. Or download DLC.

I’ll start up again later. I’m choosing Wellington for my panopticon because I love New Zealand.

  • How do we get out limited items from the digital version ?

  • So, this has been my experience so far with this game.
    1. Pre-ordered it last week so I could get a physical copy of the game.
    2. Went by my local Game Stop to pick up, but found out that the company did not ship my copy.
    3. Had to drive quite a bit out of my way to another Game Stop in order to pick it up today.
    4. I get home and pop it in my Vita and decide to update it right away.
    5. Update finishes and then the game boots to a black screen.

It would not boot the game at all. Closed the app and even restarted my Vita and still just boots to a black screen and hangs there. I am currently in the process of deleting it and re-installing it to see if it will finally work.

Let’s just say I am very pissed and really upset with the game company that made this game. Have really had a very bad experience with it so far.

  • @156. 1) You can save by talking to your accessory. Should be the bottom option. Not that there is much point unless you are experimenting with something that won’t cause the autosave to kick in since the autosave and the manual save write to the same slot and autosave happens after every mission. In all honesty though, you don’t lose much if you haven’t reached the point where you can save (though I’m pretty sure you can once you have access to talking to your accessory).
    2) I agree. Personally, these games were never really designed to be listened to in any other languages. There are a lot of subtle things you won’t notice in a localized dub and you will miss them if you turn off voices, but they can just treat it as reading a book.
    3) The cusomization only gets better a bit in.
    4) Back to 1.

  • I’ve had a few glitches:
    1) Accessory doesn’t always show up the first time you make it. This means you are trapped in the room until you restart.
    2) Not sure if a glitch, but DLC content can’t be obtained for some people unless you got a code for it.
    3) We’ll call them features, but your accessory moves very slow, unless you change areas. Then your accessory will warp to you-or as close as it can get. I guess this is a ‘feature’ though?

This is just from a short play of the game. I haven’t even found the out of map glitch that I’m so well known for doing in games >.>

“Who is out of the map?”
    “Oh, probably just ariaandkia again.”
“Ummm… yeah… I think I fell out of the map again?”

  • Purchased! Excited to try this when I get back home… or why wait? I brought the Vita to work. Muhahahahah!

  • Been about 2 hours since i made the call and nothing

  • Can’t wait to play it. I had mine pre-ordered months ago.

  • My PSN account is over JP but my friends are playing in Asia Region.

Can I still play with them with the JP game?

  • @156
Mutting the voices doesint really solve the problem and just hearing gun and slash sound effects after a while gets annoying.

  • I already buy the premium edition on the first day at the release day and im on jakarta indonesia panopticon and why i can’t redeem my premium code?? Please oni-san give me some solution :(

  • I just got it yesterday when it shipped to Funz Centre at Singapore, and since then I can’t stop playing!
THIS IS THE GAME PSVITA DESPERATELY NEED!!
Great gameplay, Engaging story, and that trolled feel when suddenly the alarm went off and give you more years just because you ran for over 5 seconds :v

Really looking forward to what the game brings in the future.

  • The US version of the game is multilanguage?

  • Got it last night. I’m now on Level 2 and out of maximum security (they don’t call it that but whatever). I’m having a blast!

  • just picked up my vita with Freedom Wars im very excited

  • I’m in the middle of helping another member out who has this game. They ran into PS Vita Error C1-2738-0, while trying to start the game. It wasn’t able to do so since it’s having an issue with a saved file.

They’re wondering if they’re able to redownload the DLC if they have to restore their Vita to fix this problem. They don’t want to lose what they’ve already paid for.

Anyone else run into this error? Did/were you able to redownload the DLC?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • just curious, but for the free DLC, will it still be free after november?

  • TY SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS GAME!
im currently sitting here and playing it! it seems like im the only one in my country playing this game D: i will have to recommend it to everyone i know!
the patience has not been for neigh!

  • Whaat, just got a littlebit disappointed :/ just read now that there is a pre order bonus from gamestop… i didnt get any when i picked up my preorder today :C

  • you guys aint fair. i bought the retail version of the game.. but digital buyers are getting extra content? :(

  • please create an event for us like FW in JP

  • I have question, should I redeem my dlc bonus before playing the game or after? Sorry I’m new to dlc.

  • guys help! ! !
i bought a panopticon pledge pass in-game but the game didnt detect so i tried buying it inside ps store, but the game still cant find it. . . any way to fix this? i live in sydney btw but im from philipines so i chose Manila and now i regret doing that. . .

  • Hi Nick!
Yesterday I bought my physical copy of FW (reg ALL/US) and it didnt come with redeem code sheet for pre-order bonus DLC.
All my friends claim to have the same problem too.
Is it not all of physical copies have redeem code includes in them?
or do you know what’s going on?

    many thanks mate :)

  • tch, If I knew beforehand that the voice customization had been removed, I wouldn’t have bought this game. I am very pissed.

  • @ koji_lio: The pre-order codes were sent via. email, so if you check your email it should be there.

  • @ jamal
tough luck, no new mail or whatsoever :(
Do I need to fulfill some requirements?

  • @ Koji: that shouldn’t be the case. check everything, including spam email.

  • It also probably depends on where you pre-ordered from. Some places might not have offered the pre-order bonuses.

  • I just realized that if I would have waited 12 more hours to buy it from the PSN store or if I would have bought it 2 hours earlier from Amazon, I would have gotten the bonus DLC. I bought it at 2 am from Amazon on launch day because I thought that I could download the DLC for free. I already talked to PlayStation Support and they said they couldn’t help me. Hoping Amazon will help me. It makes me a little upset because there are people buying the game right now for the same price I did and are getting the bonuses that I didn’t.

  • When in game do I get the Powerful weapons and the medic supply from the pre-order dlc, I can see the costume and stickers in the editing menus, but don’t see the heavy melee weapon, rocket launcher or the medical supply kit in my inventory do i recieve them later in the game or do I have to need to do something to get them?

  • @185 Yeah, the blog was not clear about it. It said “digital” and not which digital.

  • Even better: Sony Support told me that the support call I made a year ago was never actually logged. And earlier, they just straight hung up on me.

  • Thank you amazon for being 10000000% better than sony.

  • I bought the retail and after reading in this website about the Final Fantasy Type 0 fiasco, all I have to say to you guys that brought Freedom Wars for the Vita: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am really disappointed too when I found out today that the voice synthesis feature has been removed. It was pretty much the thing that drove me forward to keep playing, thinking I may be able to unlock the feature just after the next code exam… Now that I know it’s not there anymore, I feel I lost the passion on progressing the game. Don’t get me wrong, this game is still great, but to me now it’s just missing that key thing, something to expect or hope for as you level up in CODE… time to take this game slow.

  • Thanks for giving Vita owners this wonderful gem. I´ve supported the console for over 2 years and I´m glad to see people are still making the games it deserves. Already played a bit of it and the combat is seriously cool. It´s gonna be great to have this game on the go.

  • I have to say, I’m really liking the gameplay so far, but conversely, I’m rather disappointed in the plot, at least from where I am now. It interferes a lot with just playing the game (nowhere does the game indicate that your CODE 3 exam is part of the plot, for example, so I was well past having done what I needed to do for it and had no idea why I wasn’t being given it yet), and while the idea of restricting the player is very novel and works very well here (I felt like I wasn’t even playing the game until I unlocked the ability to bring comrades into battle on my own for example, and it was a great feeling having that control), in other places, it just seems to drag the game down, not from the perspective of “oh no restrictions are hard,” but from the “this just doesn’t seem like a good design choice” one.

  • Honestly, for a game called “Freedom” Wars, it’s ironic that the thing I find most restricting and annoying is the supposed fight for freedom that this plot is leading up to. From the perspective of this being a game, I would be perfectly content dropped in my cell and just working off my time, and I feel this game is failing in what it promised initially by forcing me into a plot I want no part of and have no interest in, and one that, worse, keeps interfering with my actual playing of the game as the narrative tells me that it’s supposedly meant to be played. Hopefully it’ll turn around later on, but I can’t help but hope for a sequel without all the mystical nonsense and prisoner girls, unless there’s a grand 1984 style twist coming on like I hope there is.

  • So I guess at this point you’re not gonna verify the absurd list of Panopticons, especially in Europe? 26 mil of Scandinavians get 5 PTs, while around 150 mil of European Slavs don’t get a single one. Good job!

Can I finish the game and get all the trophies without being forced to “choose” one of these PT’s? I really wanna know that. I’m so pissed at that PT’s list, that I’m thinking about ignoring the game because of it if you force me to use that part of the game. I don’t reward ignorance.

  • @191 A lot of us are hoping that they’ll eventually rethink their decision and at least give it to us as DLC. I’d pay for it and I’m sure plenty of others would too. They wouldn’t even have to do anything major, just bring back the JP Keyboard and the voices… It would totally be worth it even if the DLC was as high as an extra 20 USD (considering this game is about 20 USD cheaper than normal)

  • Hello I wanted to know how to change the Panopticon because I bought the pass but could not find a solution so if an idea thank you very much?
I want to leave Tokyo to Paris
    thanks you for this game

  • So far I am REALLY enjoying this game. But I have a question… I was listening to the interview on IGN’s podcast “Beyond” and do not recall them mentioning you would only get the DLC if you bought the digital version (Please check the episode around the 53:10 mark, Episode #365). Because of this, I went out and bought a retail copy at a local store (because I don’t have a lot of memory card space). Is there any way I can get the pre-order DLC for free as mentioned on this podcast? That would make my day!

  • Game is very fun but man it can be HARD i been stuck on code 6 Cell Garden story where you can’t use your A.I partner
and holy crap is it hard been stuck on that for 2 days now pulling my hair out over this .

Was there a need for them to have 100% accuracy and use rockets 90% of the time and they are a never end of spawns killed 40+ they just keep coming until time runs out WTF

  • awesome game!, play it since release on japan, now i can play it with my friends here on Chile!, nice, colorful, love the soundtrack. 9 out of 10 game!
