Details on Exclusive Content for Returning GTAV Players

Ever since we announced Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 4, some of you have been asking if there will be anything extra for those PS3 and Xbox 360 players who are planning on picking up the new versions. To reward loyal GTAV fans for coming back to the newer, more detailed version of Los Santos and Blaine County, we’ve created an array of exclusive items specifically for these players – with each of them connected to activities designed for you to experience the game’s massive world in new and exciting ways. Here are some of the new items and activities that will be available for returning players:

Grand Theft Auto V
The Dodo seaplane: It may take a little firepower to get your hands on this highly versatile GTA classic.

New Events & Rewards

Encounter new events happening all across the world, and complete the challenges they present to unlock exclusive new vehicles like the menacing Imponte Duke O’Death and that veritable GTA classic bird of flight, the Dodo seaplane.

Grand Theft Auto V
The Imponte Duke O’Death: As you might expect, when you first stumble upon this near-indestructible mayhem machine, trouble will follow. Deal with it judiciously and this beauty’s all yours.

Murder Mystery

As Michael, follow a trail of cryptic clues to unravel a grisly murder mystery. Put the clues together and you’ll unlock two Noir Style Filters, which will give your Story Mode gameplay and Snapmatic photos the feel of a gritty old school crime classic.

Grand Theft Auto V
Get to the bottom of a murder mystery that strikes right at the heart of Los Santos’ most cherished industry.

Weapons: The Rail Gun & Hatchet

Obliterate your adversaries with the high-powered, high-velocity Rail Gun. This piece of experimental military technology also has its own set of Shooting Range Challenges at your local Ammu-Nation shooting range. Or hack and slash foes up close and personal with the brutal Hatchet melee weapon.

Grand Theft Auto V
The futuristic new Rail Gun unloads powerful rounds of explosive ammunition upon foes.

Wildlife Photography Challenge

There are new species of animals across Los Santos and Blaine County, and the LS Tourist Board needs someone to document them. As Franklin, catalog unique animal species scattered across the map to unlock the special Kraken Sub.

Grand Theft Auto V
Completing the Wildlife Photography Challenge will unlock the Kraken Sub.

Stock Car Races

Win a series of new Stock Car Races to earn unique custom Muscle Cars adorned with logos from some of the companies that made this country great.

Grand Theft Auto V
Finish first in the new Stock Car Races to earn new Muscle Cars.

Monkey Mosaics

A mysterious street artist is tagging walls all across town with his simian-inspired silhouettes. Track down and photograph them all to earn new monkey outfits (available to all players) and a special Go Go Monkey Blista exclusively for returning players.

Grand Theft Auto V
Take to the skies in the faster and more maneuverable Xero Blimp.

New Vehicles and More

Grind up the Los Santos freeways (and over anybody in your path) with the Cheval Marshall monster truck and take to the skies in a faster and more maneuverable Blimp, compliments of Xero Gas.

There will also be a bounty of content for all players, new and returning, to discover – including a fleet of classic GTA vehicles and a few more surprises we’ve got planned that you’ll have to discover for yourself come game day. And as previously announced, current GTA Online players on PS3 and Xbox 360 will be able to pick up where they left off, transferring their characters and progression seamlessly to PlayStation 4 (Social Club membership required).

Grand Theft Auto V
Few objects are an obstacle for the intimidating Cheval Marshall.

In addition, anyone who pre-orders the game will receive a bonus of GTA$1M ($500k for Story Mode and $500k for use in Grand Theft Auto Online).

  • So many games this fall! Every time i see more on this I get closer to preordering it. lol Gotta buy Dragon Age first tho.

  • Any chance of getting GTA:SA anniversary on PSN? :)

  • So only people who played on the previous gen of the game can get these items?

  • I played a bit of GTA V on the 360 but stopped after a few missions (RL obligations). I look forward to returning to it, this time with my PS4.

  • Not paying full price for the game again, nice that it has extra content but I needed a special price for the upgrade to make buy it again.

  • I can’t wait ! , and We need GTA:SA anniversary on PSN

  • Inb4wewantheists

  • We need to know the GTA San Andreas Remaster release date! Who cares about the dodo.

  • Wasn’t sure if I was going to pick this one up, but now I just might be…

    @#3 what he said!?

  • Thanks?
Will skip on this generous offer. Have so many games to play that were released this year

  • Nice, would be great to have a discount if you already own the game. I see call of duty to this all the time. I buy all my games digitally with the hope that when releases on next gen come we get upgrades for free at a discount. Cross buy games do it and some AAA titles.

  • Will skip on this generous offer. Have so many games to play that were released this year. Thank you

  • How will Rockstar verify if you’ve played previously so that you can receive these special bonuses? Would it all be done through Social Club?

The bonuses and being able to import your game progress are enough to send me on another trip to dirty San Andreas!

  • How are you going to check that we are a previous user? I am using a different PSN account for my PS4 than I used for my PS3. Am I not going to get these features because of this? I think I deserve them because I had the game on PS3.

  • Any details on an upgrade price? I’m not paying $60 again for the same game, and I know a ton of people who won’t either

  • Love GT5 played it on ps3

  • Need GTA on the Vita with trophies!

  • This is nice, but as many others have mentioned, if I bought the game on PSN for full price on PS3, I’m not paying full price again to get it on PS4. I don’t expect it for free, but I’d love if Sony could meet us halfway here.

  • All cool extras, but I need a price-cut to commit. I bought the PS3 digital version expecting a reduced price upgrade. Way too many other games coming out to play this time of year, than bothering to re-visit GTAV. Plus, by the time I am ready to re-visit it (IF), the game will no doubt already be discounted.

  • I agree with ‘thesurfshop10’ and ‘Slaying-24-7’.

And another question, I originally played on Xbox360 but I’m now a PS4 user. Will the change in system have any effect on Rockstar being able to verify that I am a previous player of the game?

  • I really love GTA and I am very much looking forward to this version of GTA:V. Specifically, remote play to my Vita. All the other details and content upgrades are neat. However I am not dropping $60 on the same game I bought last year, for the same price. I will enjoy some of the other plentiful games available this holiday. Until the price comes down to $30 or less. Perhaps I will get it for Christmas, who knows…please make a GTA Collection for Vita!!!

  • Did you guys use the dualshock speaker for anything?

  • So I am going from 360 to PS4. I see that my character and all that will transfer via Social Club.. Will I also get these bonuses and new activities for being a returning player? (360 to PS4) Thanks

  • Yeah, I’m also curious if we’ll be getting GTA: San Andreas HD with trophies? I’d love to play that again!

  • Pay ANOTHER $60 for this game? No way.
A 50% discount would have been nice, but I guess Rockstar aren’t keen on discounts. They aim to please their shareholders.

  • I’m glad to hear that’s how the character transfer works. I would have preferred if I could go between PS3 and PS4 freely, but it’s not a big deal. I’m just glad if I switch my level 100 character over to PS4, I won’t have to start from scratch if I still play with my friends on PS3.

Now I’m wondering about the trophies. Does it have a shared list like Destiny, or do the PS3 and PS4 versions each have unique lists? I want to get the platinum in the PS3 version before the PS4 version is released, but only if the PS4 version has its own list. I want to be able to do it all over again on PS4.

  • It doesn’t worth!

  • i can’t wait for GTA 5 for ps4 yo… oh and im not a guy, im a girl

  • GTA V is Banned from My country , it isn’t available for Pre-order from PSN Store

  • A decade ago I bought GTA3, VC & SA on PS2 then bought them again on PC a year later, now GTA V is the only game I’ve preordered on both PS3 and PS4. Honestly I don’t mind the full price double dip on the GTA games because I tend to play them pretty consistently until the upgraded version comes out and long after that. I’ve got my fingers crossed that everything goes alright with the online character transfer and social club upgrade goodies on launch day!

  • Same question as #20 and #23. I looked at the Rockstar article and it doesn’t answer this question – any chance you can get some clarification? i.e. how will they track a “former player”?

  • Made my preorder more worth! Thanks!

  • @MrBeatdown I do hope it has shared trophies. I don’t feel like grinding for it all over again. I’m at 82% completion on the SP campaign.

  • how about an upgrade discount for the people who bought it on ps3 already? especially since we were told that rockstar had no plans to bring this to next gen consoles when the game came out last year

  • Good to see heists have made it to the PS4 version…oh, wait.

  • All of the people asking for a discount, they’re not going to do it. The only recourse previous owners of the game have is to just not buy the remastered version. I would buy remasters of games I own in a heartbeat if there was any recognition that I already paid $60 for the game on PS3. There isn’t, so I’ll pass on the remaster. Simple.

  • How about people jumpin from Xbox to ps4

  • Any plans for those that still with to continue playing this on the PS3 console?

  • Sweet :D!
Any word on San Andreas HD to ps4?

  • @nYcFrEeWiLL82 (or should I call you Billy Mays) I share the same opinion.

  • How about remove the icon off of any online players for no idiots won’t go around killing everyone? As far as I know you’re going to put up with that same crap on the PS4 .Not even your fellow gangmembers cant get kicked out of the gang nor face punishments for killing another member .

  • What are the requirements for Returning Players?

Do you just need a save game? A completed save game? Does the PS4 GTA5 evaluate your trophy progress in the PS3 iteration or something?

  • Please don’t put this version of the game on a separate trophy list! Merge it with the PS3 trophy list (like Destiny did for example)

  • As long time GTA Fan to the series i know when i see good deal that is over-blow $60 for game that isn’t worth it. Chance your price to $30 then you might get some people who are new and old coming for the game then. All the changes to the game graphics upscale to 1080P and fix too doesn’t make the game worth $60 at all my friends at Rockstars.

I would buy it for the 2rd time if it is offer for $30 or upgrade from the PS3 version any day but its pass for me. Anyone who is smart just wait it out until the price drops to $30 or lower on gamestop and other online shopping places then. Unless you are new to the game get it. :)

  • I wonder what the file size for this on the ps four is? Anyway this will be my second game on the ps four.

  • I never had it for the PS3.

Looks like I will skip GTA V because of these types of announcements. I will just wait for GTA 6 and get a fresh start instead of being pushed for not buying something twice.

  • TWO separate characters with separate levels and progression if you want to switch between PS3 & PS4 ?

    How WHACK is that?

With Destiny, I can log off my PS4 and pick up right where I left off on a PS3.

The upgrade price should be no more than $5 with this nonsense.

  • Single-player DLC and Online Heists or Rockstar can go suck it.

I can’t believe it’s a year later and they’ve released a bunch of random crap, but not the actual stuff they said was coming. I’m glad I sold my PS3 copy when I did.

  • I, for one, hope there IS NOT a merged trophy list. Keep the PS3 and PS4 trophy lists separate!
I’ve long 100% the single player portion and would probably only play it again if there was separate trophy lists. I’m not a trophy ho3 by any means, but if you’re going to charge FULL PRICE for an HD remaster or whatever you’d call it, it might as well have separate trophy lists.
Destiny IS the same game across platforms so it makes sense that it would have a shared list. As I’m sure is the case with other games that are the same across all platforms. You don’t see Guacamelee or other games that have added content or remastered versions sharing trophy lists with their PS3 counterparts. This should be NO different.
