You may already know that PS4’s upcoming system software 2.00, codenamed Masamune, adds some big features including Share Play, YouTube support, and Themes – but the updates don’t end there. I have personally stated in past blog posts that we listen to our fans. PlayStation has heard gamers when they say they want more ways to find friends to play with, and more ways to personalize their PS4. With this update, we’ve added a Players You May Know tile, the ability to listen to your music while gaming, the option to change the look of your PS4 experience, and easier ways to sort and filter your library of content on PS4.
PS4 has been on sale for almost a year and we’re committed to improving the player experience in entirely new ways. As always, we welcome feedback as part of our ongoing effort to make PS4 the best place to play.
- USB Music Player: PS4 owners can play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the PS4, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.
- Change colors: In addition to the ability to add a theme, PS4 owners can also change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and gray.
- Players You May Know: PS4 will now suggest players you may know as potential friends in the ‘What’s New’ section.
- Enhancements to Live Broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts.
- Content Area and Library: PS4’s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organize contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date.
- Enhanced Voice Commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,” “End broadcast,” and “Find face.”
- Add To Library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.
Correction: Back Up Data, a feature listed in an earlier version of this post, is not part of PS4 system software 2.00.
PS Vita and PS TV – 3.35 update, Live From PlayStation
The PS Vita and PS TV systems will also receive a system software update to version 3.35 with the same timing as Masamune, adding four-player Remote Play support to PS TV. In addition, the Live from PlayStation app, which allows users to watch live gameplay streams from PS4 systems, will be available on both PS Vita and PS TV alongside this update.
PlayStation App 2.0 update
The PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets, available free on the App Store and Google Play, is also set to receive an update to version 2.0 within the same launch window as both the PS4 and PS Vita system software updates. This update provides a new layout for tablets, and the app’s home screen has been redesigned.

* User can play music files stored inside USB storage but cannot copy music files to PS4 HDD. This application cannot be used at the same time with Music Unlimited. USB Music Player will appear once USB storage is inserted, and will disappear once USB storage is removed.
Awesome update, but please tell me before this drops the basic functionality of psn will be fixed. I realize psn is down right now, but even when it’s not it runs extremely slow for me. Loading profiles, sending invites, messages, everything. My connection is also hard wired into the system, doesn’t seem to help. Also, I look forward to more customization option on the home screen, as the current screen is completely unorganized.
Will we be able to set controller light color or change PSN name?
My question is why wont my friends list load and the game keep freezing? I’d really like to know.
Here is something I know it a USB type of deal. But it says it also supports MP4. That is a video file. So would you be able to play that type of file if your USB stick has a movie on it?
I’ve been hoping for Sony to acknowledge and address the slow and even non-functioning network services. It is a very frustrating experience simply sending and receiving messages on PSN. Often messages won’t even load, or take forever to send. Sometimes my friends list won’t even load! This includes both my PS4 and the Playstation App on Android. And no it is not my ISP. I have had these issues on several different inrernet connections. The struggle is real.
will the Music Player automatically mute the in-game music score so we’re not bombarded with multiple tracks? the xbox360 had this feature and it was great.
So I guess that reddit user IWORKFORSONY was right then. If anybody did not knew about this in July a reddit user said the samething and the release date of the update will be in the holiday season. So we got to wait little bit longer.
Does this mean you can use an ipod or does it have to be a usb flashdrive?
PLS fix the PSN and the party chat…always had problems with it…cant hear some of my friends when they join the party… enery time have to restart PS or at least 3 times go out and in the party, sometimes even that doesnt work…really sick of it :\
I know people have all ready asked about if we can play music on a smartphone. But how about something say the Vita?
Xbox is getting dlna and we are getting USB…..not even plugging in iPhone works on ps4. For a person who has 26 gigs of music that’s is disappointing. Your telling me song I need to go and find a 50 gig flash drive copy all my music there and then play them. When I could have used dlna and stream flawlessly.

PSN is is so unreliable its always going down like this. It really disappoints me considering we now have to pay for online, You guys really need to up your game, XBL provide an excellent service and they let you change your gamer tag why cant you? Also where is Driveclub for instant game collection and new features and functionality updates need to be consistent, Xbox One gets updates like every month. Just saying.

Will the ability to change our PSN I.D. Be finally available? Some of us do not want to lose the trophies we’ve gotten but have a silly PSN I.D. That we created when were younger. Even if we get charged to change our PSN I.D. I just want it to be implemented in the new update.. Please !
I miss the ability to pause all/specific downloads to prioritize what’s incoming along with creating folders for content. I will admit that the screenshots above look better, but it may look really cluttered with 15 games/apps. Can I also get rid of icons for TV apps that I don’t use?

People act like this first go around with technology. The UI/UX of the PS4 was done from the ground up which is why the stuff you had on the PS3 isn’t present furthermore stuff like this exist every generation.

Please don’t wait til Nov to release the update because it sounds like your waiting for the launch of AC:Unity. If you want to boost sales then release it before the Holidays also I hope in the future you don’t wait a month to provide info on stuff like this as we find it really frustrating. I just wanted to express that you can say things like your targeted month or what your shooting for that might be a problem.
what are the chances of being able to use the stuff I purchased from the ps3 store like PSOne Classics? I made the mistake of trading in my ps3 and now I feel like all that money is wasted. Or even making that stuff free on PlayStation now?
No DLNA?? Seriously? I was proud of choosing Sony when I switched from Xbox360 and I’m still am, but I must say I envy Xbone owners in regard of OS updates and simple features like DLNA…

Sony please I have run out of space on myPS4’s standard 500GB Hard Drive, that’s not surprising considering the average game size is 35GB-40GB.
Please Sony I bought all the PS4 Games but I can’t install them all because there’s not enough space on the Hard Drive!
Even if I upgrade to a 1TB internal Hard Drive, it won’t be enough.
Please Sony can you tell me if the 2.0 firmware update will include the ability to install games to an external Hard Drive???
Question. I understand that the new USB Player will play music from a USB stick while playing games which is great. But can you play music from the HDD while gaming? I don’y have a PS4 yet but plan to get one soon. Thanks.

Will there be an update where all audios INCLUDING Party chat will be recording when you want to save a video clip? Every time you capture a clip, you only get game audio and the audio clip of yourself which seems like you are talking to yourself because it doesnt capture the audio with the people you are talking about.

some of us really use .mkv, .mp4, and .avi formats for video wise and also for media playback we would love to copy over .m4a, .mp3 formats to hard drive as well…
So what is the deadline on getting DLNA support for those formats above??

An idea, heavily inspired for need from destiny, but a standard in many games. An always active chat window, text based, usable with a usb keybord. A window that is adjustable, and will be over the screen even in game, to chat with freinds list, clans, firetems, etc. what ever the group is. Destiny is in great need of a chat feature, but this i feel would really take interaction to a whole new level within the psn network all together. Nothing worse than seeing players in the tower, and cant say anything to them or try to find a group without a complicated, and often slow laggy messaging system. also, of course bluetooth headset support, and remote play over android/ios or over vita with a ds4! i loved the remote play option, but hated the vita controls. wouldnt be hard at all to connect a ds4 to vita via bluetooth after all.
