Resogun Heroes Out Today: New World, New Modes, New Trophies

Hey there PlayStation Nation! Ian Pickles here, Producer at XDEV Studio Europe Back again as promised to give you some information about our new expansion: Resogun Heroes.

Resogun Heroes

For those who missed our recent blog post regarding the free game update, feel free to go catch yourself up and come right back… we’ll wait.

So let’s get right to it – this is our first major expansion for Resogun, and we’ve spent a lot of time making sure in terms of playability and enjoyment it’s right up there with the main game. We’ve got a couple of new modes, and it all centers around our new world: Avernus.

Welcome to Avernus

In Greek mythology, Avernus was the gate to The Underworld — not a very nice place. Our own futuristic homage to this mythical gateway is a dark, foreboding planet where the Sentients retreated to after you kicked their asses and saved the last humans.

Resogun Heroes

Avernus is a dark place full of new enemies and the mysterious Sentinel craft, all of which are not happy to see you coming back for more. Gameplay here takes place in two entirely new modes.

Survival Mode

Survival mode is Resogun turned up to 11. In this new mode you’ll descend onto Avernus with the sole purpose of taking the fight to Sentients. Attack the stormy city in the midst of an all-new day and night cycle, and destroy everything that moves.

Things are tough in Survival – you only have a single life to last as long as you can. A few things have changed to improve your odds, however.

Resogun Heroes

The Humans you saved are back, and they’re ready to help you power up. Parachuting into the level frequently, they can be immediately collected to power up your weapons and give you the edge with several power ups including an improved shield, Clock (turbo speed), overcharged weapons and much more. Add those to your boost, overdrive and guns, and you’re a true force to be reckoned with.

At its heart, Survival is a true high score chase. We’ve improved the leaderboards and post-game feedback you can expect to see when you die (and die you will). We also have a couple cool additions to keep you pushing forward against your enemies.

Fallen Heroes – These are holograms of your ship placed on a timeline representing your best performance to date. Do better and the fallen hero will activate and, if collected will improve your shield and weapons to aid your survival.

Monuments – Nothing pushes you like beating your friends! In Survival we place Monuments representing your friends’ (or global) scores around you. Beat the score to destroy the monument as you move up the leaderboards to glory.

Survival is pure Resogun through and through, and we can’t wait to see your scores.

Say hello to the “Wrecking Ball,” and your new favorite game mode.

In Demolition, you take the fight to Avernus at night, armed only with a proximity bomb that recharges after each use. No other weapons, boost or overdrive here. What you do have is the Wrecking Ball. When it’s caught in the explosion of your proximity bomb, it will fly off around Avernus destroying everything it hits… including you!

Resogun Heroes

This new game mode is Resogun meets Arkanoid with a touch of Pinball, and it has to be seen to be believed.

The Wrecking Ball powers up after destroying 1000 enemies. What’s more, power ups will provide you with multiple wrecking balls and instant bomb recharges. It’s a risk and reward strategy where more Wrecking Balls equals more carnage — while posing far more danger to your small and vulnerable ship.

We can’t wait to see the reactions to Demolition; it’s fast became everyone’s favorite game mode here. Creating new types of experimental gameplay while keeping the same addictive, voxel-coated core is exactly what we’ll look to provide more of in future updates.

We’re going to honor your fight in Avernus with the addition of yet more sweet Trophies to the game. This pack will push you to the limits with specific challenges across Survival and Demolition mode. We’ll be back with a Trophy guide very soon.

Pricing and Availability

This was previously announced by our friend Mikael from Housemarque, so here’s a reminder for those who missed it first time around:

“The Heroes expansion will go live on June 24th, and the full price will be $4.99. We are also providing an option for you to buy a season pass that includes the Heroes expansion pack, and will let you be the first to download more game add-ons that we’re developing, as soon as they’re released, at no extra cost.

Future expansions will add yet more game modes, along with a range of other content, additional Trophies, and the original soundtrack. The season pass is attractively priced at a lowly $7.99, which is simply a steal to ensure you have the full, definitive Resogun experience.

Lastly, if you don’t have Resogun, it will be $9.99 from June 24th to the July 7th.”

So that’s about it – we hope you all enjoy the Heroes expansion pack as much as we do and stay tuned for tips and tricks and news of future update soon.

Now go take to the fight to Avernus, and prove yourself as Heroes!

  • Is the season pass going to be available today

  • How much will this expansion cost?

  • What about the people who got Resogun with PlayStation Plus at PS4 launch? If I get the Season Pass, will my free download still expire when my PlayStation Plus expires?

  • Will definitely be grabbing the season pass. Loved this game since I got it day 1 with PS+ and it’s still my goto game on the PS4. Glad to hear there’s yet more to come.

  • buying!

  • Thank you for finding a way for us to pay you! I’ve enjoyed Resogun for free since launch day and I always wanted to find a way to thank you for the awesome game. I am excited about this and upcoming expansions.

  • 8 bucks is a steal, and I will play the hell out of this even if I am absolutely terrible at this game.

  • That season pass is so bought!

  • Wow! Season pass for me:) the free update was rad so im truly looking forward to this. Great pricing too. Thank you Housemarque.

  • Ahh I’m so excited for heroes! I’m already getting a kick out of this new update/patch! It’s a whole new game with split screen and ability to download anyone’s creation! I’ve already downloaded all my spaces with ships done by create artists! Anyways, do you know exactly when the add-one will be added today? about an hour ago their was a count down and now it say it’s available and i see the trophies for it. I figured it’s early but i saw it go from 16 hours left to now available. Am i missing something?

  • Great* Artist

  • 8 bucks for the season pass is a great deal and i shall be getting it.

  • Where do we find the season pass option? I looked in the PS Store and found nothing except the game. Has it just not been released in my region of the US yet? (Chicago)

Lov Resogun and laying yesterday in a TARDIS was so damn fun. Thanks again for the ship editor option,

  • The game is good but is it worth paying for an expansion.

  • Will Survival and Demolition be full modes that can be played on every map, or are they locked to just Avernus? Similarly, will Avernus pop up as an extra normal level for Arcade Mode as an extra incentive for purchasing? I’m really tempted to buy the expansion, but I’d prefer to see just how expansive these modes are, first.

  • I will be getting the season pass when is released later today.I love this game!

  • “What about the people who got Resogun with PlayStation Plus at PS4 launch? If I get the Season Pass, will my free download still expire when my PlayStation Plus expires?”
    We need answer please!

  • Full Soundtrack even the boss fight music? that would be awesome :)

  • Awesome job guys. Looking forward to that season pass. :)

  • Season pass is it for me. Amazing game!

  • @17: i want to be able to buy the game too.

  • The fact that the US PS store updates so late in the day is dumb.

  • Love that we get an affordable season pass. That’s some real value there! Definitely buying.

  • Getting the season pass is a no brainer. The game is awesome, it was my first ps4 fun experience. You guys are awesome, thanks for the great pricing

  • RESOGUN is the reason why I bought a PS4 at launch and it remains the best game on the console to this day!

  • @ 1 an 2 u both need to learn to read, i fpund both of ur answers in the article, it annoys me when people ask stupid questions like u 2

  • I love my ps4 completely but the psn store is worst thing ever. Its worst than playstation now. Takes way to long to update. 5:36 EST still not done. The update should be done and over by Noon EST latest.

  • Good question 3 and 17… I just got back into this game and trying to finish getting Platinum. I was gonna purchase the season pass but wondered the same thing since I got it with Plus. ( I don’t plan on my Plus expiring), but I’d assume we’d lose access to the game and have to buy it. You don’t get a option to buy if you own it under Plus…

  • Just how is a free update cost $4.99? This seem to be a very mixed message at best. In the talks uptill this all the new modes where descibed as part off a FREE Expation. Now I’m not saying game companies can’t make money, but they shouldn’t false advertise either.

  • Amazing DLC. I’m getting the season pass. This is what DLC should be.. Basically completely reinventing the game and breathing new life into it. Much better than DLC that just tacks on additional missions without actually changing core gameplay elements

  • My comment was #3 and still not answered. Can someone from the XDEV Studio Europe answer my question?

  • @29
If you would read it again and see the trailer.
Free update = CO-OP and Ship eiditor
    add-on = survival and demolition.

Yes it would expire. all full games expire unless bought with a discount.
i would assume you would have to buy the game again but not the add ons.

  • The demolition mode is just incredible. I had so much fun playing it last night, and i can’t wait to play it this afternoon. Best mode ever.

  • Will you consider implementing 3D support in the future?

This would really put it over the top!

…think Stardust, which is still one of the best 3D games an runs at 720p60 on the ps3

  • I bought the expansion, but the Survival mode is still greyed out. Anyone know the problem?

  • Survival mode is my new addiction. Fantastic job; I love this update!

  • Video games done right, will definitely be buying soon!
