PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

  • Thanks for balancing out the amount of games given and making everything available at once. I only have PS plus for my Vita, this was much needed!! . :D

  • Great job Plus team. I really like the upcoming all games on the first Tuesday format. It is going to be a little sad to not have something to look forward to every Tuesday though. How about Terraria for the PS3 next month.

  • Wow PSplus has been around for 4 years!? that’s incredible and congratulations to all of you working hard behind the scenes! also I cant believe Ive had PSplus for 4 years now! hands down the best investment Ive made on PlayStation. Thanks for thinking about keeping your customers happy.

  • Disappointing Sony. Honor those people who went out and paid hundreds of dollars for a PS4 with some AAA titles. Even Knack, just something! Happy about the two game release from now on, but if it’s going to be 2 ‘indie’ titles for the next few months count me out.

  • I do not get this ! isnt trine 2 and another game should be free for ps plus members on ps4 ?! but when i visit the playsation store i do not find them, i find (stick it to them man ) …so why is this ?!

  • Geez people, entitled much? These are FREE games we’re talking about here. Quit freaking whining so much. Just curious though, what time do these go live? It’s about 10 here in Texas and nothing has shown up.

  • 2 more crappy psvita games no better than free flash games on the web
PS+ cancelled gonna have to do a hell of a allot better than that to get my $ again

  • I don’t see these games in the store, are they out yet?

  • They are not out yet. They don’t update the store for some reason until really late in the day. Hopefully with the PS+ overhaul next month they actually start updating the store at an earlier time rather than the usual 5PM EST….which totally negates any usefulness of the download function on the PS App.

  • As with the Xbox Marketplace I would hopefully be able to fire up the PS Store the morning of and download what I need before I go to work. If games with gold starts on a sunday you can bet when you get up in the morning it will be there. I hate complaining on here but the store update time is my only gripe.

  • When are the games live? I’ve been waiting for hours I’ll be really disappointed if it doesn’t go live before 9pm…

  • My only two complaints are:

    1. I am running out of space on my memory card
    2. I do not have enough time to play these great selection

Since getting PS+ I have not regretted it :)

  • Back in the day when PsVita got added I voiced my concern this probably meant we’d eventually get less games for PS3.

The answer back then was a promise that this wouldn’t be the case. PS3 would still get its 3 games / month and the PS Vita would just be something ‘extra’.

Now today Plus for PS3 is getting downgraded from 3 games to 2. Not happy. I don’t care about PS4 or Vita so that means I just get less games, yet my subscription still costs exactly the same.

  • Some games are out, but others are not. I thought all games would be available on the 1st Tue. For PS3, the basketball game is there, but not Sly Cooper

  • What happened to Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time? I joined plus this month just for it and its not available. is this a bait and switch?

  • I’m getting close to cancelling. POS soccer was bad enough but now you’re hitting us with two sports games in a row? There’s a reason they’re consistently of the lowest resale value for every console ever. It doesn’t help that I have 80% of the games you’ve released in the past 4 months already not that it’s your fault, but it’s killing the value of the subscription for me personally without a strong “main” game each month. If next month is just as underwhelming my subscription is done, I’ll just speed run the few free games that I haven’t gotten done with yet.

  • @ Superline51 How did you manage to get a free plus subscription? Last time I checked my bank statement I paid for these games each month.

  • You pay for the service, the free games are a bonus. Just this year alone, I saved enough in free games to justify buying a year’s subscription three times over, and I still have a few months left.

  • And that doesn’t even include the discounts on all the other stuff. Moral of the story, quit whining.

  • Where is Terraria?

  • These aren’t blockbuster games but I’m kind of welcome to that. I had a ton of fun with Mercenary Kings and REALLY enjoyed stick it to the man. in fact, I probably will buy all the big games titled games so these small games are perfect for me. it would be SWEET if we can get trials fusion tho

  • I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now and would like to know if my sub lapses and I buy it again, will my library of games be deleted or will they be active again? It has lapsed in the past and hasn’t been a problem. Changes to the policy makes me nervous as a long time subscriber.

  • Idk about anyone else but so far I only have the option to download both of the PS4 games (Trine 2 and Pixeljunk Shooter Ult.) and NBA 2K14. The PS Plus section on the store is missing Sly Cooper and both Vita games (Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe). Is this issue occurring for anyone else or is this just me?

  • It’s not just you, I’ve been checking often to see if Terraria has been updated, but no luck.

  • So I want to get this clarified a bit. So now we get all 6 games free at the start of the month. Do we not get only one month to download and play or can we download them (adding them to our library) and then play them later (say 2 months later) as long as we still have a ps plus subscription?

Basic does the one month window apply to only download or to download and play (ie playability expires after a month)?

  • @IKIKURAS: The “Protip” section basically answers your question: At least from what they said in this post, things will continue as always regarding playability as long as you remain a Plus member.

@everyone else wondering where the games are: The post says the all-at-once policy starts in *July*. Now if there’s a glitch in the matrix on the first Tuesday afternoon of next month, you’d all be right to raise hell then.

DRAGONS CROWN????????? really?????????????????? why don’t we get it????????????

  • Thanks, Thumbs, Didn’t get the July part.

  • @ThumbsOfSteel74: thank you very much for the clarification here

  • I just wish we would stop getting indie games on ps4. I know the selection isn’t super broad yet, but something not an indie game? Please?

  • If you own all three platforms that means 6games free a month! Best deal ever considering if you like playing ps4 games online you need ps+ anyway XD

  • I am not able to see this game in the download section, I am from India and when will this be avaliable for download in India.

  • I too am personally disappointed by this new approach. I can’t see how this isn’t anything other than a bad thing? Phasing game availability out makes little sense. I am also struggling to understand why i would pay £60 to download a game i can order from Amazon for £42? Thanks.

  • NBA 2K14 and Tomb Raider for PS4 on July, please!

  • Terribly disappointed. Used to be 8 per month (PS3), most of them did not call my attention, now with 2 per month I am seriously considering not renew my subscription.

  • To be perfectly transparent in this, this is 100% a move to manage the cost of giving out so many free games across 3 systems (look forward to the complete dropping of PS3 free games in the next few years btw~).

I think it’s getting more to a point where the only games that can really be handed out for the PS3 will be expensive new ones (cant imagine it happening with any kind of frequency), or tossing us wonky “indie” titles or really old, exhausted games. As the PS3’s life-cycle winds down, the more focus that remains on the PS3, the more focus is subtracted from the PS4 (see Japan no longer manufacturing PSPs).

The PS3 is my main gaming system, and though I’ve been wanting to check out Sly Cooper for a long time yet never did, ONLY having it & a derpy sports title that’ll be worth pennies at Gamestop in so-many-months does not justify a yearly PSN+ sub for me.

Right now, I think Sony’d do better to do what Nintendo does and give multiple choice to pick ONE game from a list of like 5 or so others at a time. That would at least give us non-sports-playing users a way out of months like this one.

  • Actually, I’d even be interested in a PSN+ program where I sign up to ONLY receive PS3 support. I don’t have access to a Vita or PS4 at the moment, so why is it not an option to have a PSN+ service dedicated to a single system in these cases where I’m basically burning money as I watch my library fill up with all these Vita and PS4 titles I currently cannot play.

If something like this isn’t changed/added over the next year, I think Sony seriously WILL consider removing PS3 support from the PSN+ program altogether.

  • Yes! I can get both games for PS3 this month! I can probably get 1 of the PSVita games though. I have some ideas for July’s games. How about “One Piece Pirate Warriors (1 or 2 doesn’t matter)”, and “Minecraft Playstation 3 Edition” (that’s all I’ve got so far). So yeah like the new PS3 titles.

  • I love all the people complaining that they get two free games a month. “Only two??” Seriously? If you only own one system, that’s 24 free games a year, for the price of one. If you own more than one system, that’s even more games, for the same price. Yes, you may already own one or more of the games, but instead of complaining about it, be happy that you gave some of your money to the people who made that game for you. Sony is doing something they don’t have to do at all. Be thankful, please.

  • what day is available to download these games? I´m waiting anxious

  • Terraria and 2K14, man this month quite something eh.

  • i dont know why but when i try to download terraria for psvita it stll wants me to pay the full 19.99 or whatever and actually its giving me the europe line up instead of the north american one and i live in california and before anyone asks i do have playstation plus. so i dont really know what to do. PLEASE HELP

  • @raygear: Gotta wait another week or three for the other games like always. The new all-at-once deal starts in July.

  • Am I the only one that does not see Sly Cooper or Terraria available for free right now? I really want to check out those titles… Especially since I am in the middle of the first Sly trilogy.

  • The Vita games aren’t free even though I still have an active PS+ membership !!! Shouldn’t they be available by now?

  • When Does Terraria Come Out For Vita?

  • Hey, Awesome Line-up, just wondering when Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe is coming into the PS+ store? They still seem to be missing for me. Can hardly wait til next month – It’s hopefully gonna be a great birthday month for me! :D

  • some games show me is expired, how is possible if my plus membership is active?

  • Ummm… Terraria is, as of now, not available to DL. I thought ALL the games were going to be ready the first Tuesday of the month? I see Sly, but not Terraria or Mutant Mudds. What’s the deal?

  • Terraria on the Vita is a wonderful addition to the PS+ lineup. Unfortunately I still show it as being full price like many of the prior posters. I’m very hopeful to see it hit the ranks soon!
