Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.
The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.
Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.
Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.
Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.
Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:
Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.
On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.
Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.
Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

@499 To be honest though you have over $40 worth of free stuff available. Also not many RPGs could be added to the list at this point. Not saying many haven’t come out for PS3 and Vita, but I know one company in particular is not all that nice and would be hard to work with as far as PS+ is concerned and they have brought a lot of titles over here. At least they have put many titles for sale. I would love to see more RPGs, but I get why we might not see some of them. I would have been happy for Child of Light as well. However I cannot complain. I am not always a fan of what gets put on PS+, but I get my monies worth every year.
@RjK311jR
um…no…
as i remember, the IGC was always a component of PS+…what YOU’RE referring to is the “omg we’re so sorry” that sony did after the PSN was hacked, and our info got stolen. that was a “sorry” to ALL PSN members, not just PS+ members.
we’re not complaining because we want someone to provide our entertainment for free….Plus isn’t free…we’re paying 50 bucks a year for it. initially, the only draw to Plus was the “free” games, the possibility of beta access, online game save storage, and all the other little nifty things it does. no doubt, plus has been worth it. i think a lot of us are complaining, because now those of us with a PS4 MUST have Plus, or we can’t use online services…something we can do on our PS3’s without plus….so now, just like XboxLIVE, we can’t do multiplayer without it…
given that they’re now FORCING us to have it, when the additions to the IGC are joke-ish, like this, we SHOULD be complaining…because not only is one of the main draws, no longer really a draw, but it’s not as if we can say “oh well, i guess i’ll just cancel”….unless we want our PS4’s to be more or less useless…
@501 yes i know they but on several occasion EU has recieve RPG games that NA hasn’t. even June is prime example has the get dragons crown (not sure if cross buy) and Muramasa rebirth.
Yaaay Sly Cooper!
Mutant Mudds is on Vita? That’s surprising, considering Jools Watsham is a staunch Nintendo supporter. I’d love to see it on PS4. I already have the Wii U version (and I had it on my old 3DS), it’s an awesome game.
Please Sony no more sport games .. !!!
@406 Valyrious
so, if we don’t care for sport, or simplistic indie games, or whatever else…if the current selections are either games we already own, or have no interest in, we’re self-entitled children, and should go piss off, and play PC games, or xbox?
that’s kind of an arrogant, and very ignorant thing to say.
try not to be so much of a fanboy, and except that everybody has different tastes than you..
Wow, what’s with all the complaints? Games are retreads or indies! No one likes Sports games! SCEA must hate the Vita! I was a little disappointed to see the yearly updates go away, but this really balances the offerings we get of FREE games. This service has saved me so much in just discounts, last year paid for itself with two discounted purchases, so the free games are a great addition.
Yes, Trine 2 is a remade version, but for those of us that never played it, it looks like a really fun game. I own PJ Shooter 1 & 2 on the PS3, but haven’t touched my PS3 since I got the PS4. I’m excited to play these games again on my console of choice. Oh no, two straight months with a sports game for PS3!!! For those of us that like sports games, it’s a welcome addition to the other genres. And finally, complaints about Vita are completely unjustified. While the two sole Vita offerings are smaller indie games, you actually receive four Vita games as Shooter and Sly Cooper are both Cross Buy. I’m actually very excited for this month of games and really other than the slight disappointment I mentioned earlier, my only concern is my growing backlog of Vita games to play over the last few months. Not a bad problem to have.
Lame month for me. I already have Trine 2 on Wii U. I hate sports, don’t like the pixeljunk games, don’t like Terraria, Already have Mutant Mudds on 3DS when it launched. Guess it’s just Sly for me next month and the hopes that we get Dragon Crown in the near future. Lucky U.K. Still, PS Plus has been worth every penny especially now that I finally have a Vita.
@474 Gamerzlimited You obviously don’t see what is happening. The market is flooded with Indy developers, which is killing off mid-level developers. Things like humblebundle and kickstarter are actually hurting the gaming community as a whole. Don’t get me wrong, many of my favorite games are Indies, but the list of crappy Indies is getting bigger and bigger every year. If things continue in this direction, all we’ll have left is a handful of AAA companies, and the rest will be tons of Indy devs fighting over the scraps. Incidently, this is similar to the US economy.
@441 ShiranaiJittai
you noticed that too?
i’m not complaining, really, even if i only get one or two games a year out of the deal, it’s worth the price of admission, but yeah, the offerings are now less, and the quality of said offerings has definitely declined…and online play on the PS4 REQUIRES you to have plus….
so as PS4 becomes the primary platform, they’ll get more and more people locked into plus subscriptions….they don’t really hafta care if we’re happy with the “freebies”, because they know we’ll keep paying, because we want to use online services…
i mean, the move to make plus a must for online, really really stinks….that was one of the reasons i preferred sony over microsoft…XBLIVE was a massive ripoff, and i stopped paying for it a LONG time ago…because i could go play awesome games online like battlefield, without having to pay an extortion fee to microsoft…
i still think it’s a **** move on sony’s part, but i mind less, because of the fact that sony’s been so cool about everything else….and the absolute embarrassment they caused microsoft last year at E3 was honestly golden, lol
Lol at all the butthurt ps3 owners, suck it up and buy a ps4
@ThePwnKing304
ok, so what about the “butthurt” PS4 owners here?
i have a PS4, and i’m still disappointed with the selection…plus, if i wanna play battlefield 4 online, i HAVE TO buy plus….
so, what you’ve said is actually kinda stupid. “stop being butthurt, and buy a PS4, so you can pay for multiplayer” um, right…because buying stuff fixes what, exactly?
@512 It’s not like the PS4 owners are getting a top notch selection of games every month. All things being equal, the PS3 offerings are generally better, unless you like getting reheated indie games month after month (with a couple of exceptions).
This IS awesome news!
I already own Trine 2 (Platinum Trophy too, which is gently hard to get for this game). YOU GUYS WILL LOVE IT!
I’ve been on the fence about Terraria for a while… Glad I’ll get it for free!
@499 (kazekaine1) – You state that IGC lacks variety, and then in the same sentence, you say that there hasn’t been an RPG in the IGC in 6 months. It appears that your definition of “variety” is simply “RPGs.” That, my friend, is not variety…it’s you wanting one specific genre to appear more often. A genre, BTW, that is much more niche than most others. But let’s talk about the “variety” contained with the IGC…
In the last 6 months, although there hasn’t been any RPGs, the IGC has contained: 2 Action/Adventure games (incl. Arkham City), 1 Hack-n-Slash (DMC), 2 Single-Player FPS (inc. Bioshock Infinite), 1 Adventure game (Brothers), 1 Competitive Shooter (Payday 2), 1 Third-Person Shooter (Tomb Raider), 1 Survivor-Horror game (Lone Survivor), 1 Puzzle-Platformer (Stealth Inc.), 2 Pure-Platformers (including Puppeteer), 2 Sports games, and 1 Fighting game (Skullgirls).
Ummm…”variety” doesn’t seem to be the IGC’s weakness. Sounds like you just wanna get more free RPGs, friend.

And yes, I can see why people are disappointed that Sony didn’t shower them with new games this June like they did last June. This is a different year though, buddy. This time last year, they didn’t have the PS4 one the market, or PS4 owners that they also needed to consider. You HAD to know that, as a PS3 owner, that they would start to faze out the 12 free games at some point. I mean, how could Sony maintain that when there aren’t that many PS3 games coming to market anymore, and only a handful of good PS3 games on the horizon. I can understand being disappointed…but I don’t understand being angry.
@510 (smoothboarder540) – Sorry man, but you have it completely backward. Indie game developers aren’t killing off the mid-tier developers. AAA development has killed off the mid-tier developer.
Publishers like Ubisoft, Activision and EA put hundreds of millions of dollars into developing AAA games. Mid-tier publishers like THQ could not keep up with that pace, which led to them dying off because of one big mistake (i.e., uDraw tablets…oy vey). There’s a reason why the AAA developers keep going back to the sequel well until it runs dry…it makes them a ton of money!
In fact, indie developers have stepped into the space where the mid-level developers once occupied. They use their own capital or Kickstarter to fund their game and sell them at a fraction of the cost of their AAA counterparts. Although not all of them are of good quality, they certainly have their place in the market, as they are becoming more and more popular.
Only one game between all off them already pay our investment in plus, but probably is more than one game.
So shut up and take my money!
Even know you havent address the point how does adding one extra ps4 title a month cause the evergreen titles to go a way?
also i used RPG as a example, and fyi there isn’t just one type of RPG.
as a long consumer i’m glad about Sony caring about their fans, lovers and consumers Thank you very much I appreciate these games on my birthday month Thank you
Also whats funny is While Plus removes extra games from June, Xbox live adds more for june normal they give only 2 xbox 360 game per month, they’re giving one extra one for both XB1 and 360. so tell me again whats the benefit for losing the annuals and how is that not a downgrade?
@kazekaine1 – Regarding your “evergreen” titles complaint. Another blog poster made this comment, which I think sums up my point well (even though I did address this earlier)…
From Chip1010 on May 29th, 2014 at 8:28 pm said:
I don’t think I understand your numbers here. Sony is still adding six games per month to the IGC. One PS3 game per month has become a PS4 game so it’s 2-2-2 instead of 1-3-2, but that’s the only change there.
It’s true that there will now be considerably fewer games in the IGC at any given moment, which lessens the immediate benefit for new customers. But for longtime subscribers such as yourself, I don’t see this big problem you’re seeing. It’s the same number of games every month. You just have to make sure to download them.
You’re right that Sony is pointing out the benefits of the new system instead of the drawbacks. Of course. But the drawbacks are pretty damn minor from where I’m standing.
cont. from #525
I also recognize that there isn’t just “one type of RPG.” From Action RPGs, to JRPGs, to SRPGs, there are several varieties, and Sony hasn’t put any of them in the IGC the last 6 months…I get that. My problem with your argument is that you equate the lack of RPGs with the lack of “variety” of titles. My argument is simply that the IGC has a large variety of titles, which they’ve proven by the titles they’ve put in the IGC the last 6 months. You’re just unhappy that RPGs are a big part of that “variety.”
NBA 2k14 for free. Hell Yeah!
the thing is thats for the normal month, for June what i and others were expecting is 2-2-2 since that is the way its going PLUS three new titles to replace U3,LBPK and XCOM since they’re leaving as well so in all it was suppose to be nine titles in all for June but the annual program is gone completely so june is just a normal month and longer a special month for plus. so now do you see why people are disappointed in the changes?
also i no longer have access to games from the longer term account this account was recently subscribed to plus. so i just have whats on it now.
cont. from #526
Finally, to your point regarding XBox’s Games with Gold and comparing it with PS+. First of all, GWG’s third game for June for the 360 is a “bonus game” (which is SFIV). In all other months, XBox will be giving two XBone games and two 360 games (2 on the 1st and 2 on the 15th of every month). In comparison, Playstation will be giving away 6 games every month at the beginning of each month starting in July. I can count…6 is more than 4.
Furthermore, the quality of PS+ is unquestioned when compared with GWG, which is a fledgling program that just got its first great game this month in Dark Souls for 360. Also, they received Halo: Spartan Assault (53 Metacritic) and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (72 Metacritic) as their XBone games. There is no comparison between the two programs at this time.
I never said that there is a benefit to losing the evergreen titles…but I know that the detriment is minimal at best for current PS+ subscribers.
@kazekaine1 – Again, I understand that your disappointed that this month wasn’t on par with last year’s June blowout with like 5 or 6 PS3 games being offered. But Sony never promised that that would be the norm or that you should expect that every year. And it sucks that you lost you may have lost out on the evergreen titles since you have this new account…but you can’t expect Sony to bear that blow for you. If you are a current PS+ member, this change to the 2-2-2 format has absolutely no effect on your subscription whatsoever. You already downloaded the evergreen titles, along with everything else offered, and you’ll still be getting 6 games per month through the program. The only downside is for PS3 owners who are losing one title per month. But Sony’s doing the right thing by steadily migrating people over to PS4, the new-gen console.
Question: are we ever getting more psp titles for the vita backwards compatible library
Thank you Sony!!! As a subscriber of PS Plus from the very beginning, I’d like to thank you for the amazing games you’ve brought to the Plus community over the last few years. I know there are a lot of members who complain each month, and I fully support their right to do so, but anecdotally, I never hear anything but glowing remarks about the service in the real world. This leads me to believe that the complaints I read here on the blog come from a vocal minority. Unfortunately, most satisfied customers rarely take the time to post their thanks, and we’re left with negatively weighted impressions as a result. One reason I like these posts is that more people tend to post positive reactions here than other sites, which only reinforces my feeling about how the vast majority of our community perceives this product. Thanks again for all the hard work curating all these great titles every month, and keep those great indie titles coming to Sony platforms, they are among the best experiences in gaming!
Really thought Terraria would’ve been a cross-buy title; but now that it’s free on PS+, all is good!
@519 GStyles1980 Big budget AAA gamemakers have always been big spenders on development and advertising. That isn’t anything new. Mid-level devs/publishers were never competing directly with them. Instead of spending millions of dollars on advertising they rely on free marketing through places like Steam or the media. What has changed for the worse for those mid-level companies is the oversaturation of cheap indie games competing for that free advertising. You’re right that AAA companies hurt mid-level companies, but that was always the case. The rise in Indies is what has changed, which companies like THQ cannot compete with.
Once again Playstation delivers. Just this month alone pays for the PS+ membership. Glad I’ve had this for 2 years. My library is huge!
NBA 2K14 is soooo DOPE!!!! This is the best game ever to hit IGC!!!! Propz Sony FAM!!!!
wow what a friendly letter to tell me and other ps3 hardliners to go F myself you guys thinking of changing the name to ps minus cause i honestly thought that ps3 was actually gonna start getting more games since everyone was selling theirs off to get a ps4 pretty much this is writing on the wall that sony is phaseing out ps3 and why not they had a horrible fiscal year soon online will be pay to play on ps3 im sure, they even claimed that their relying on their gaming branch to make up their losses so maybe we should have read (were going to screw the gaming consumer but we’ll give them a nice big grin while we do it) i’m waiting a year or til a new model comes out (i bought my big dumb clunky one the day before the slim was anounced yes the one that ISNT backwards compatible)
cont from 538 i still own and play my ps2 hell i still own and play my sega cd/32x and i own pretty much every emulator that will fit on my android, so if my complaining bothers you just skip my post because where i come from service should always improve not deteriorate, and ask yourself this if their screwing me now how long before they get sick of me and start screwing you instead (price of membership for a year is 100$ so we’ll just cut yours in half to reflect that)
p.s. i want Dragon’s Crown sooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad ive been supporting atlus games since ogre battle on super nintendo and would have loved to play this
First, I will not be writing about the quality of games, just the overall numbers. Second, I don’t guaranty that I got the math right. Finally, whether this is good news or bad, depends on how you look at it. If you’re looking at it based on what we’ve received since the PS4’s launch, then assume that monthly titles will remain the same and we’ll receive bonus E3 games, we’re trading 1 monthly PS3 game for 1 monthly PS4 and loosing the E3 “Evergreens.” That’s a loss of an assumed 7 games this year.
More objectively, look at the 2012-2013 year (beginning of IGC for Vita to just before IGC for PS4), as a long term subscriber. In that period, if you’d already been subscribed, you received 5 games a month (3 PS3 and 2 PSV), plus 6 “Evergreen,” for a total of 66 games. For a long term subscriber, going from June 2014 to June 2015, under this new system, we will receive 72 games. That’s a gain of 6 games.
Continued
This change effects new subscribers the most. When I first signed up, the IGC already contained 18 games. Of those, 6 games were “Evergreens,” and 5 were from the month I signed up, meaning that I got 7 games that were holdovers from the previous months. In the first year of my membership I received 73 (I think) games total, which is only 1 more game than what a new plus member will receive under this new system (after the current IGC is cleared out). Some months had more games and some months had less, so depending on when a new member signed up, they could have received more or less than the 73 I received. The big difference is that when I signed up, I had access to 18 games day 1, whereas new subscribers going forward will have access to 6 games day 1.
Overall as a PS3 only member, I don’t much care for the change but it really isn’t as big of a step back as some of our expectations may lead us to believe.
I only have a PS3, and got my PS+ earlier this year. I believe there were 4 PS3 games that month, then it went down to 3 and now 2. Since I already owned the single bick ticket game for the last 3 months.the selection hasn’t been that great. That bring the month of June . Only two games, but they are two games I can get right away, that I don’t own and I would actually play. So I have no problem with two games a month as long as they are high quality.
Hopefully by the time these are released there will be a patch to fix the last patch that broke my PS store (yes I set the correct time and redownloaded the app)
Never finished the new Sly Cooper on my Vita. Might as well play it on the PS3 for the trophies so they can carry over to the Vita. Also, another sports game? Oh well, I’ll try it out. Might be fun, who knows.
Hey I actually have PS plus for my 3 systems, its super easy to find the IGC on the vita and the ps3 thanks! Unfortunately i cant seem to find it on my ps4. If someone could tell me where to find it, or maybe a link to a video or some other type of tutorial on finding it on the ps4 that would be awesome! XD
please excuse the late continuation
After rechecking it turns out that I actually got 78-80 games total in my first year as a plus member (signed up June 3rd 2013), of those; 6 were 2012 “Evergreens,” 3 were 2013 “Evergreens,” 8 were holdovers and 7-8 were PS4. At any rate, I personally expected that we’d swap 1 PS3 slot for 1 PS4 slot (later in the year) but that we’d be getting 5-7 new yearlong titles. I chose to sign up just before Sleeping Dogs, and the first batch of “Evergreens” left, so I’d assume that I got more out of my first year than most. My personal “butt-hurt” is only in my expectation of new annual titles. I still think that Sony should keep more than 6 titles in the IGC, for new members (that includes annual titles). It would have been nice to see the PS3’s IGC end with a bang instead of a fizzle but if they continue to support PS3 beyond June 2015 that would exceed my personal expectations. Only time will tell.
Nice move! This makes more clear to consumers. I hope we can get Dragon’s Crown in July.
playstation plus free games update
Thank you.
It has been a long time coming but you are finally donig 2 things I have been wanting/waiting to see.
1. Better game variety. Games that represent the major genres are starting to be more represented here instead of just shooter after shooter, action game after action game.
Much much better. 9/10
2. Providing a more immediate and better cycle of games.
by providing all the games at the start of the month and by changing them every month it allows users like myself who generally will only see 1 – 2 games a month in the past the option to play the games they are interested in and then try some others if they have time after.
Just wished you started with June 3rd but I am happy to know the change is coming.
Much better, I hope you sweeten the pot at E3 though.
Please don’t listen to the people complaining about “another sports game”.
You have rarely offered sports games and they are probably the most popular genre outside of fps.
considering how annualized most sports games are, it must not be a difficult thing to aquire a sports game for plus near the end of the year / season.
If you can give us 40+ shooters / action games a year please do not listen to people complaining about 4 sports games in a year if it is even that high.
It would be nice to get more sports, the problem is when you give 5 fighting games in 2 months and 2/3 sports games in 2 months people complain. You need to address the ratio and timing of your offerings.
What needs to happen is every Plus user needs to be given a survey where they can vote on genres they want, and then you will have real metrics of interest to base your offerings upon.
I would vote for Action/Adventure, RPG, Sports. So would a great many and these genres are under represented plain and simple.
