The Drop: New PlayStation Games for 5/20/2014
The Drop

A futuristic city besieged by a strange enemy in Transistor, and a timeline wrought with terror in Wolfenstein: The New Order; all this and more comes to PlayStation this week.

The hotly-anticipated action RPG Transistor arrives on PS4 this Tuesday, telling the melancholic story of Red — a singer without a voice wielding an enigmatic weapon. Face enemies known as The Process and work to uncover the mystery behind Red’s fate, and what evils have been cast against the sprawling city of Cloudbank.

In the mood for an old-school FPS? The legendary series makes a triumphant return in the form of Wolfenstein: The New Order. As super soldier B.J. Blazkowicz, fight against a ruthless empire using different combat tactics and rewrite history itself.

For a complete list of games coming to PlayStation, read on. And enjoy the Drop!

PS3 — Digital, Retail
A prequel to the original Drakengard, Drakengard 3 transports players to a medieval world where six sisters wield special magical abilities. R-Type Dimensions
PS3 — Digital
The coin-op classics, R-Type and R-Type II, are together on PlayStation. Fight through all 14 Bydo-infested stages in retro 2D graphics or shiny 3D graphics — and swap back and forth with the touch of a button. Accompanied by fully re-imagined arrangements of the timeless R-Type music tracks.

  • @42 I’m with you on the who PS Now is not for everyone. However you’re not going to get PS2 classics on the Vita. It was a pain just getting PS2 classics onto the PS3 which took a ton of work given the PS3’s exotic architecture certain concessions needed to be made. For example these aren’t purely emulated titles.

PS Vita is just too under powered to play PS2 games. Remastered titles on the other hand it can do with relative ease and make the games look far better than they ever could on PS2. I would start asking for those instead honestly or just wait till PSP3 to start asking for PS2 Classics and bolster support for true PS2 emulation on PS4.

  • @ KazeEternal

Exactly. People thinking the Vita has more power than the PS3 really needs to do their research before passing misinformation on. The Vita is way behind the PS3 when it comes to raw processing power.

  • If my ps4 wasn’t on its way back to Sony, is buy Transistor.

Unfortunately after multiple attempts to resolve the problem, it wouldn’t turn on today.

  • hello I have a question, if I bought watch dogs for ps4 when I have access to pre-load?

  • DecadanceFantasy

Woah Atlus releasing SMT DDS is awesome! I never got to play it when it was first released so this is going to be fun. Though I have to wait for a while. I bought Nocturne when it came out like two weeks ago. I need to finish that one first! Great release though.

I’m totally eagerly awaiting Drakengard 3!

  • im glad to see ATLUS releasing these SMT titles. i know they are going to release them all. they only have 2 more after they drop this. now i need the .hack g.u. series, the tales games that hit ps2 and ps1. NAMCO…. make it happen.

  • Transistor

  • all these games droppin on birthday day damn but id still like to see more ps vita games like mabey gta san andreas or minecraft

  • ThumbsOfSteel74

@ccrogers15: There may not be any big sales this week, but it’s a bit premature to say for sure. The Drop is all about new releases, demos, and betas. Sales are usually announced on Monday, and start on Tuesday when the store updates (or a random day if it’s a flash sale).

Nothing for me in this list, but the recent upsurge in PS1/PS2 Classics gives me hope my faves/missed titles from the old days are on the way.

  • Transistor and R-Type dimensions for me.
Super excited for E3. Loving Sony radio silence! They’ve always delivered.

  • Transistor and Drakengard, the two games I’ve been looking forward to most for the past year, both coming out on the same day. What a week.

  • I am waiting for Watch Dogs! However Transistor looks good!

  • Hey, is this just Digital Devil Saga? Or is there also Digital Devil Saga 2 this week?

  • I wish they’d release six NORMAL PS1 classics a week. I think the demand for imports such as these is very, VERY miniscule. Not upset to get them, but I think most will just look past these. I wish they could translate them first, because I’d be all over plenty of these titles if so. Still waiting for:

    Einhander
    Jade Cocoon
    Megaman Legends 1 and 2
    Vandal Hearts 1 and 2
    Suikoden 2
    Saga Frontier
    Die Hard Trilogy
    Diablo

    and for PSP:

    Final Fantasy Crisis Core

    Hoping for sales on:

    SNK Arcade Classics: Volume 1
    ZHP Unlosing Ranger

  • holy crap. I just realized Clements didn’t do his weekly drop joke as number one comment.

  • Some of these import games would be kind of neat if they weren’t so text heavy.

  • good week! drakengard 3 and transistor for me. probably dds at some point too

  • TELL US THE PRICES!!!

Is it that difficult to add the PRICES to the DROP post? Yes, I know this is the DROP, the PRICES will be revealed tomorrow, but is it that bad to let us know ahead?

Some of us need to plan and ration our gaming budget. Having that bit of information (apart from the standard $59.99 game) helps us get prepared and prioritize. We may also compare the digital price with physical price in stores, or compare the digital price with other region PSN stores. If we find that the physical price is better, knowing the price ahead will still give us a small window to go pre-order from game shops (or is that why you don’t want to tell us the prices?). And some of us need to buy physical PSN top up cards ahead of the actual release.

Why is it such a problem to show the PRICES?

  • I am with you on this #51. PSnow needs internet and I play most of my vita games where there is none.As far as it playing ps2 games a year before the vita come out sony reps said it could play ps2 games with no problem in a interview. If it can not then sony lied from the start of the vita. I hope not but the way sony has been doing the last several years it would not surprise me.

  • When is “XBlaze Code: Embryo” coming? How much will it be?

I have the Japanese full game version for free from Asian PS Plus. I’ve played the same first chapter before in Japanese and only understood like 10% of it. Playing the English demo last week really helped to clarify the story and it drew me in. Now I am eager to continue with the story.

  • CommandingTiger

    Drakenguard 3

  • “DRAKENGARD!”
Hope the pre-order bonuses for that all get released (including the PS Store theme), since I’m not up to droppin’ munny on it yet. And echoing requests for its predecessors as PS2 Classics, just to round things out.

Transistor’s just reminding me I’ve still not devoted myself to a Bastion playthrough.

R-Type, striking back after Irem’s retreat!

Atlus pulling through with more of their paradoxically popular niche titles. Man, hope sometime they’ll absolutely surprise us with a localization of Eternal Punishment’s PSP version.

And to wrap it all up… Just more reasons why it wouldn’t be the worst thing to learn another language, with a hobby like ours.

  • I can’t wait for my limited edition of Mugen Souls Z to arrive!

  • Dear Sony!
Tell me please where our favorite games from PS one

    Star Ocean the second story
    Diablo
    Vandal hearts 1-2

Tell me please where our favorite games from PSP

    Final Fantasy Crisis Core
    Star Ocean 1
    Star Ocean 2

We are ready to spent our money on such masterpieces, but there is no chance ^(

  • Digital Devil Saga… More SMT games to play… -Sigh- I still didn’t beat Nocturne or Soul Hackers yet, But getting DDS

  • Would love to see Final Fantasy XII added to PS2 classics!

  • Digital Devil Saga!!!!111!!(oneoneexclamationpointone)!! Hope Part 2 gets released soon, too.

  • Atuls is rocking lately! Thx.

  • @74 You WANT that horrid Diablo PS1 port? Why?

  • @51,

Sony hasn’t been exactly honest with emulated PS2 games. Sorry, but I won’t be posting anything about it here, but modders have proven that ALL PS3 systems have code to emulate PS2 games via software. That whole “We need to rewrite code” is a bunch of lies.

You can play ANY PS2 game on PS3 with hacks. Like said, I won’t say anymore, but if you actually believe Sony’s story on emulation, I feel sorry for you. Not trying to sound rude, but its true.
I don’t hack or whatever, but I just know about it.

  • to add to my previous:
Look it up online. You can find PS3 Super Slims playing PS2 games that are not on the store. How? Because of hacks. Resident Evil Outbreak is a good one that comes to mind.

All people need to do is download a PS2 classic, which is essentially an emulator, remove the PS2 classic ISO file from within, and replace it with a game of your choice. Its extremely easy to do. Sony isn’t being truthful here. All PS2 units are capable of PS2 emulation. An emulator is already made. Sony won’t make that emulator to run from disc because Sony figures if they simply release digital versions on the store, they will get money.

May be cold hard facts, but its the truth.

  • what the hell happen with the pre order pre load for wolfenstien? I thought the hole point of the last ps4 update was to be able to pre load a game if pre ordered? now nobody knows nothing about it sony? what kind of crap is this

  • ThumbsOfSteel74

Pre-order pre-downloading: I believe the firmware update merely enabled this feature. It’s been stated previously that Watch Dogs would be the first game to actually use the feature. So games released before then won’t be downloadable beforehand.

I wouldn’t count on every game afterward having the feature, either. Or that it will always work properly, but it is what it is. I guess we’ll see when it gets here next week.

  • I had no idea R-Type Dimensions was releasing on the PS3. I’ve been waiting for it to drop in price over on the 360 for ages. Even if it’s a few bucks with Plus, I’m totally getting it on PSN now.

  • Digital Devil Saga, Nocturne, and Persona 4 all in the same year. Praise the sun.

  • Transistor is paid for!

    I can’t wait!

  • Man, my wallet is gonna be hurting this week. Digital Devil Saga AND R-type? Not to mention Transistor is looking pretty decent. Kudos Sony. You done good.

  • i hate that this brand new tech in my PS4 is being used for
    PS1 import
    PS2 import
    Side scorllers and Indie games…….

    Where is the real meat????

  • Is Transistor going to be available at midnight?

  • Really? Digital Devil Saga? Darn, I just bought the physical copies of that and its sequel last month.

  • Pre-ordered Transistor… Can’t wait to play it!! Probably just going to rent / borrow Wolfenstein though…

  • @88 Watchdogs comes out in a week. There’s your meat.

  • Hey, question. Pre-ordered Wolfenstien: The New Order. When Can I download it? Do I have to wait till the update?

  • @ Ironlantern92, when i preordered Thief it took a couple of hours to show up. You probaly just need to give it some time.

  • I have a question. Why is a game for digital pre-order if it’s not going to come out at midnight or before the store update? At the moment I’m referring to Transistor. I didn’t see anything any incentives at all for pre-ordering the game. Am I missing something?

  • So many Japanese games this week!

  • Wow it looks like Atlus is really rolling out their persona games on the store. All we need now is Persona Relevations, Innocent Sin PS1 version and the remake of Shin Megami Tensei if for PS1 (if they’re able to translate them and import them) to be on the store. Atlus please let us see those games on there please it’s so hard to find nowadays!! I also wish that every imported ps1 title that’s on the store could be fully translated with a patch. Please Sony I really love to see those titles fully translated especially for the ones u plan to put on to the store!!

  • I hope they do something about old scholl games like crash and spyro
