Preview May’s Instant Game Collection

Next month PlayStation Plus members will receive several games as part of their membership including Stick it to the Man! on PS4, Puppeteer, PES 2014 and Skullgirls Encore on PlayStation 3, and Limbo and Surge Deluxe on PS Vita. Several of these titles are a visual treat, boasting distinct, vibrant art styles.

Stick it to the Man! is a mix of point and click adventure puzzles plus a bit of platforming, and the animation-inspired art style is really slick. You’ll solve problems as Ray, a regular guy who wakes up one day with a giant pink hand floating out of his head. This pink hand gives him the ability to read people’s minds and grab stickers from their thoughts to use in the world.

On PS3 members will receive three very different titles: the award-winning, uber-charming platformer Puppeteer, the popular soccer simulator Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 and the indie-darling fighter with a crazy roster, Skullgirls Encore. Puppeteer is a visual treat that follows the story of a boy named Kutaro who gets turned into a puppet by the evil Moon Bear King (great name) and loses his head. After the transformation Kutaro must borrow other heads and use his fancy new pair of scissors to navigate the world and return home (preferably with his original head). Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 allows you to play as your favorite soccer team and pit them against teams from around the globe. The improved FOX Engine means that the soccer ball will be much more fluid than previous PES games. The 2D fighter Skullgirls Encore houses a bunch of wacky characters, each with their own unique attack style. The Encore version has new systems, balance updates, stages and music and a few new characters to mess around with.

PS Vita owners will get to download Surge Deluxe, an intense color-matching title and the critically-acclaimed puzzle platformer Limbo. The action in Surge Deluxe heats up quickly as you chain together color-coordinated blocks. The faster you move the more likely you are to be successful — taking too long means the pressure will build up in the pipes surrounding the screen and BOOM! Game over. If you haven’t played Limbo yet you’ll be in for a real treat when it comes to the Instant Game Collection for PS Vita. Limbo’s haunting atmosphere, intriguing puzzles and vague narrative make this a game you’ll remember for a long time.

  • Bummer :(. Was hoping for Muramasa or Hot Shots Golf like EU gets. Not a good month for me but, so far, 2014’s had solid PS+ offerings.

  • Finally Limbo!!!!! I Was waiting for it for a long time now for me to be able to play it on the go and Puppeteer just the soccer game is not so good but it’s ok

  • Yeah.. planetside 2 would’ve been nice… We’ll just have to be patient actually…. The great games are coming… just now now that the ps4 has less than a year released… :)

PS+ in july will have Counter Strike Global Offensive so nothing to worry about

  • @Welmosca – The only ignorance I see is coming from you. I am a paying customer. These are not free games. I paid for them. If I want to complain about the lackluster showing over the last 6 months for both the Vita and the PS4 in the North American store compared to the European region stores then I’m gonna do that. It is my right as a paying customer. The showings recently have not been anywhere close to equal across the pond

We were promised a full retail for PS4 at launch. That was 6 months ago and we have yet to receive one. All we get are indies and ports of old games. Vita isn’t any better. We get indies and ports and games that don’t sell well while Euro gets full retails that have a solid sales base and could stand on their own

  • is puppeteer any good?

  • Europe could Muramasa Rebirth, but we just get Surge Deluxe. Nobody cares Surge Deluxe. If anybody really likes to play this game, he would buy this game not until Psplus send this game. Why couldn’t you send Muramasa Rebirth and Everybody’s Golf like Europe?

  • Another weak month. Enough of the indie games for ps4 and Vita, and at least give us Knack.

  • @ jgrizzle358 (#98 & #100)

    Right on, brother.

Nothing wrong with this update. Too many ungrateful snots, that’s all.

Surge Deluxe is actually a really good game. Limbo is a classic. Soccer is a nice change of pace! And who’s going to complain about Puppeteer? Skullgirls too? Damn…

I think this update looks great even though I already have 3 of the 6 games.

  • The real problem is that nobody at Sony is listening to their paying customers. I have seen repeated complaints for the last 6 months about missing PS4 features, missing features for the Vita like full PS1/PSP support that was given and taken away a couple days later this week. I’ve seen complaints about broken games being published like that recent Soul Calibur game that requires you to play online for a single player game, but the servers were broken so you couldn’t play it all. I’ve experienced numerous preorders that weren’t available to download when promised and some were missing the preorder bonus conte. t

I can keep going on and on, but you bore me to be perfectly honest. Look through the last 6 pages at the number of complaints about this weak showing for next month’s plus and tell me if Sony is really listening to their customers. True, you can’t please everyone, but when the large majority can’t find a single entry to get excited about it just shows that Sony is gonna put up whatever they feel like and we just have to live with their scraps that they couldn’t sell

  • And about the soccer game (yes – it’s called SOCCER – not football, futbol, futbal, or whatever third world countries are calling it these days). North America is not a good market for these games. Ask 100 gamers from the States or Canada if they either watch or play soccer and I would be astounded if you find more than 5 that say yes. This is not the market for soccer games. The vast majority in the US and Canada do not care about the sport or the games

  • We are getting Sly cooper thieves in time instead of PES 2014 (México) *beep* yeah! XD

  • @ BahamutIsBack

You’re a clueless maroon who really needs to stop talking like he’s knowledgeable.

Soccer has always been plenty popular in the States. Just because it isn’t #1 doesn’t mean it isn’t popular. Where I grew up in SoCal, almost all the kids played in AYSO and in school, too. High Schools all across the country still play soccer.

So, what the hell are you talking about? You think you can just make stuff up and people will believe you?

  • How can anyone be disappointed with IGC? All these entitled lamers need a life.

  • shakes my head……….High schools still play soccer because it’s a PE requirement. Where’s the professional soccer in the states? Where is soccer even mentioned on the news, comedy shows (other than to be dismissive about it)??? Where have you seen in the states a soccer game ****EEEEVVVVEEEERRR***** displayed prominently in a game shop?

The fact remains that nobody here really cares – not even the gym teachers that are forced to teach soccer because of the PE requirement.

Oh, and nobody asked you to get involved, so maybe go check in with the rest of the Knights of the PSN blog who have nothing better to do than troll these forums every single day of their life looking to either pick a fight or defend Sony against valid complaints from paying customers. You bore me too buddy

  • Be glad that you bought the game because it will be your even subscription runs out.

Hoping for a better deals on May… Bring back the 50%-75% off to ps plus subscriber.

  • Does this mean Stick it to The Man will be free on Vita as well since the game supports cross-buy or is that not applicable with the PS4 version?

  • P.E. requirement? You mean, the kids who willingly sign up for the team are being forced, somehow, magically? Eh? Did you miss what I said about AYSO? Do you have any clue how popular youth soccer is, especially in California?

Pro soccer in the states? You mean, MLS?

The troll is you. You’re only here to troll the blog and fill it with negativity and YOU KNOW IT.

  • Oh well…Not a bad month =D But, I already have Puppeteer =( That is sad, but ok… I was hoping to Muramasa to come this month in IGC =/ I like indies, but these last months sony is bringing a lot of indies… I really wanted for IGC New Little King’s Story or Muramasa for vita, i’ll guess to buy them next month! But thanks for skullgirls =D

Stick it to the Man! (PS4) – Cool game, I will play it on my PS4 =D
Puppeteer (PS3) – Excellent game! Bu I already own it =(
Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (PS3) – Meh… I don’t like it, but it’s free, so why not? hahahaha
Skullgirls Encore (PS3) – I was really thinking about buying this game! Thanks sony to put it on IGC!
    Surge Deluxe (PS Vita) – I never heard about this one… But… I didn’t like it =(
Limbo (PS Vita) – Good game, I already palyed it on steam xD

  • I was so disappointed that I missed the fight night champion sale for 6$… Lately there had been a very few AAA on sale or nothing at all the entire week.I hope sony will realize that not all members had the chance to buy the game on sale. They better put the games on sale again some other time so that those who missed it will be able to purchase it rather than completely zero games on sale for the entire week.

  • @ BahamutIsBack

I just did some real quick research for you.

I’d post links here if I could without waiting for hours for them to post, so I’ll just tell you…

Google “soccer popularity” and read the first couple of links. Add “statistics” to “soccer popularity” and search again. Check out a few of the links on the first page. REAL STATS. Not just some crap you made up in your mind just because you never saw a soccer game playing at a game shop. Ridiculous.

  • Recently switched to PS from MS. While I love Plus, this is pitiful. I’m an extremely casual gamer and even I have played these games start to finish. Limbo is great but ancient. Everyone hates soccer. We need more Mature rated titles for grown ups that need more than a 2D side scroller. Even re-releasing Borderlands 1 and 2 as a puffed addition to IGC for newcomers like me, in addition to what you already offer.

To your credit, they’re all free, and I thank you.

To gamers’ credit, we’re paying money, and don’t need games we’ve played or are so indie they’re as forgettable as easily as they’re played.

  • I am more than happy with plus people ask way too much of the service to provide everything that they want every month. That being said The last few months haven’t provided much for me I have puppeteer. I am glad to see a sports game every once in a while. For those of you who don’t know about PES. Do some research on option files to get the most out of it. PES gaming will really help with the enjoyment and life of the game.

  • Also, I forgot to mention on my post that I’m not into sports. The only sport game I would be interested in is the NFL Blitz franchise. Kinda sucks I missed it. Not that anyone cares or anything, just something I wanted to share.

@ArchAngelMai Wow, aren’t you an ungraceful dipstick. If you are tired of wasting money, I can’t wait until you’re a poor bum in the streets asking for money. I may not like this update, but I’m not going to be a spoiled brat like you are. Do yourself a favor and please shut up.

  • @ Sony PS Plus team. Why Batman Arkham Origin Blackgate & Injustice on Vita price went up, it’s not even the weekend or Tuesday & the sale already end :(.

  • I am really happy with this month. None of these games I own (on either account on my PS3) so this is a nice treat.

Stick it to the Man: Looks like my kind of game

PES 2014: I think it is strange NA is getting a soccer game but I can’t complain. Soccer is the world sport and with the World Cup coming up I might be tempted to buy the DLC for that. I am Canadian and I can say Soccer is HUGE here. We have a very diverse society and after hockey soccer is easily the second most popular sport.

Skull Girls: Not a fighting game guy but looks like it might be fun.

Puppeteer: Always wanted that game. Looks really fun.

Now that sports games are coming on PS + I was hoping it would hopefully lead to WWE games coming to PS+. I know 2K is supportive of the program and WWE2K14 has been on sale many times. I am not a big enough WWE fan to buy the game but it would be fun on plus.

  • Three months plus vita game was terrible.
I just want to say f**k u Sony!

  • I want MGS for Vita

  • You guys are moaning and groaning about a soccer game like soccer is some unpopular sport, PES is a huge franchise

  • Weakest month in a long time for me. Puppeteer is a good game (which I’ve owned since release), but the rest are outdated or low caliber titles.

  • Good month for PS Plus for a change. Puppeteer looks cool, but I haven’t been happy with the prices thus far, and I was interested in Stick it to the Man even though I don’t have a PS4 yet, and a while back when I bought Limbo for PS3, I was under the impression that it would be crossbuy and was disappointed that I didn’t have the Vita version, but now, all is fixed. Couldn’t care less about Skullgirls or PES, though. Please don’t include sports games on Plus in the future. It’s a very niche genre.

  • I AM SO PUMPED FOR PES 2014!!! here in mexico alot a people are probably excited for t.

  • @271 “Everyone hates soccer” Actually, YOU hate soccer, do not speak for anyone except yourself. I’m not a soccer fan myself but I’m not delusional and would say that everyone agrees with me. Major League Soccer has been growing in popularity every year in the US, don’t be ignorant of that.

  • this is a bad month.

Stick it to the Man, seem like another cheap indie game for the ps4, i know there isn’t a lot to give out yet but any full reatail game would be better at this point
PES 2014, i don’t care about it, (just played the demo and i thought it sucked) but it is the first real sports game to come out on ps+ so hopefully other sport games will also come out, just wish it was a better sports game.
Skull Girls, this is the 10th fighting game for ps+, enough of this crap.
Puppeteer: seems like it might be ok
Surge, this looks like a game that should be on smartphones, not the vita.
Limbo, another platformer, never was a fan of them.

Ill try them all out, but none of them seem like games i will put any real timer into, hopefully Sony read all the post about people wanting Muramasa and gets it for us, but i have my doubts that they actually care.

  • @280, did you just seriously say sports is a niche genre? The last FIFA sold 7 million copies

  • Well this month officially sucks. EU 1ups US once again.

Also LOL at a retarded soccor game.

  • another 2D sidescrolling indie game for the ps4… great. and since you can’t see the look on my face or hear the tone of my voice, that was sarcasm.

  • Jim, what do you want? Battlefield 4? Get real man, the PS4 is still in its infancy, and for all you know you’d love it. Gaming and whining officially go hand in hand.

  • Just let us get our Crash bandicoots , Spyros and Blood omens and such on to the vita like you did a few days ago….

Why not at least let us know you are working on getting these “allowable” on US PSN?

WE ALL KNOW THE GAMES WORK. THEY WORK IN EUROPE AND JAPAN, AND THEY WORKED FROM YOUR GLTICH ON MONDAY…. BUT NOW….. you take them back… many of these games were PS1 era mascots…

Why? Can’t you negotiate with Activision for this, if that is the problem? As all those games are owned by them now…. Even blood omen was a activision title. Are they ransoming these games or something? They are ancient so I don’t understand what the problem is!

Please at least communicate with us on this. So many would love to play these games on the vita.

  • I wonder when we’ll get actual games for the PS4. And soccer? Really?

  • @260 Congrats BahumatIsBack,

You win the dumbest comment award! American exceptionalism at its finest. You insist the sport is called soccer, berate other countries, and then state that the sport is meaningless in one of the only countries that call it soccer. Way to go!!!

On a side note, have you ever heard of a little game called FIFA? Yeah, it’s kinda popular.

For those who missed this fabulous comment, here you go:
“And about the soccer game (yes – it’s called SOCCER – not football, futbol, futbal, or whatever third world countries are calling it these days). North America is not a good market for these games. Ask 100 gamers from the States or Canada if they either watch or play soccer and I would be astounded if you find more than 5 that say yes. This is not the market for soccer games. The vast majority in the US and Canada do not care about the sport or the games”

  • I would love it if Sony would just take some of the PS+ payments and getting PS1 & PSP games licensed for the Vita. What’s the point of advertising compatibility with those when the majority of them aren’t available to download on it? I want another one but for almost 3 years the support for it here in the states is embarrassing.

  • favian, how about mixing in at least one triple a title amongst all these indie games? why not a launch title that not everyone purchased, but could also help to sell future iterations of, like need for speed: rivals? there is currently no other racing title available for the ps4 and the inclusion of microtransactions, as well as adding to the community, couldn’t hurt the developer too much. i appreciate the indie titles, and have played some, myself. in fact i know that stick it to the man is a well-reviewed game. it has just gotten to the point now that i feel we the ps4 is oversaturated with indie titles, and is pointing to the direction the ps4 is headed. i can’t afford to buy all the triple a titles for it, and it has now had 6 months to get people interested in franchises that release an annual title like need for speed. you mentioned battlefield 4, but there are enough fps games out there, and most are either loyal to one or the other.\thanks for your feedback. i was just stating an opinion. maybe i appeared a little irritated, when i did. i didn’t mean to ruffle any feathers, though.

  • @260

Nope, it’s football. Specifically, association football.

The word “soccer” is actually a shortened form of the “association” portion of that.

    And now you know.

Btw, holy ignorant. Calling every country but America third world? Sort your life out kid.

  • Skull Girs seems good, and Pupperter too, but I don’t like PES :(
Oh and please next month Dark Souls, Demon souls or another RPG. Im really bored for all the fps…

  • I wish you wouldn’t give us games that were recently heavily discounted for Plus members.

3 out of the 4 PS3 games were discounted by more than 50% within the last few months.
What is the point of getting us to buy these and then give them away a few months later.

Not happy with May…Or rather I should say, I’m not happy with PSN Plus in May.. The month and I are still cool.

  • And also Canada and the US share an association football league. There’s even a team here where I live. Toronto F.C. They play at a big open-air stadium called BMO Field. Seats almost 21,000.

And the games are always sold out.

How much money would you like to bet there are a ton of gamers in that crowd?

  • cant wair for PES 2014… says no ne ever… but i will be trying (sucking at) skullgirls

  • jim488 on April 24th, 2014 at 8:04 pm said: “how about mixing in at least one triple a title amongst all these indie games?”

You mean, like, Puppeteer and PES 2014? Oops.

jim488 on April 24th, 2014 at 8:04 pm said: “why not a launch title that not everyone purchased, but could also help to sell future iterations of, like need for speed: rivals?”

Umm, maybe because EA hasn’t agreed to send NFS: Rivals to the IGC… yet. (They might one day, who knows.) Sony can’t (and doesn’t) just pick games at random to include with Plus. It requires contractual agreements with the publishers of the games. Why is it so hard for you guys to understand this? You’re just going to have to take what you get. Sony’s hands are tied, to a degree. They can encourage various publishers to donate their most popular games to the IGC all they want, but if the publisher says no, there’s nothing else they can do. That’s reality. Stop whining and accept it. Whining won’t change anything, I promise.

  • Hole Guacamole.
PES 2014 (will try since I’m a FIFA guy now on the PS3), but mostly PUPPETEER YUPEEEE!!!! :D
Been wanting to grab it since forever.

And Limbo for the Vita is a nice addition, never got it for iOS so it will be good to have it there.

    Great upcoming month.
