The Art of Naughty Dog: Celebrating 30 Years of Games

Naughty Dog Turns 30

Yes, you read the headline right. Back in 1984, Andrew Gavin and Jason Rubin formed a company called JAM (Jason and Andy Magic) Software. Five years later, after finding new publishing support, the game development company with the very 80’s name incorporated as Naughty Dog, Inc. Fast forward to 2014, tally up more than seventy million games sold globally, and we’re now celebrating thirty years of making awesome games.

One of the hallmarks of Naughty Dog has always been our top-notch artistic quality and talent. We’re paying tribute to that this year as we’re teaming up with Dark Horse Comics to release The Art of Naughty Dog.

The Art of Naughty Dog will be available later this year. It will span the history of Naughty Dog and feature hand-picked, never-before-released artwork depicting our past, present, and future. Being around for thirty years has bestowed upon us all kinds of incredible art from our amazing fans. Select fan art will be a chapter of the book as well. To mark the occasion properly we’re having a book launch event later in the year. We’ll have more details once the pages and the plans are ready.

Naughty Dog Turns 30

We’ll have other celebratory merchandise available and we have some special events planned over the next few months. We’re currently at PAX East with the rest of our PlayStation family and there are hints at what’s coming for our anniversary in our activities there. Also, if you didn’t hear the news, it was recently announced that we are participating in Operation Supply Drop’s 8-Bit Salute. We encourage you to check out Team Naughty Dog’s fundraising page today.

This kicks off several anniversary announcements happening over the coming months. Turning thirty is going to be a fun year for us all. Get ready to celebrate with us!

    Salute your work!!

  • Congratulations Naughty Dog!!! I love your works, I grew up with Crash and still play it thanks to my PSP. It would be so awsome for another Crash Game! You guys made the best and the real Crash games. It would be AMAZING if you guys were somehow able to get it to the North American PS Vita store. My vita is missing the first 3 PSOne Crashes on it!!!

  • i wanna start of saying my first Naughty Dog game was Uncharted Drakes Fortune, after playing it i got hooked on your guys games. Theyre simply awe inpiring! When i see the ND logo i know im in for a unique, amazing game. Your passion as developers stand out most to me you deliver a vision unlike any other studio. hope you guys read this, i could go on and on! <3 you.

  • Happy Birthday Naughty Dog and congratulations on turning 30 years old. You guys have always created amazing games that are filled with fun and you guys never disappoint. This art book looks fantastic I can’t wait to hear more about it.

  • Wasn’t their first playstation game an fps called distruptor or something. Maybe they are making a PS4 game built off that? I doubt they ever go back to crash or jak unless it’s a reimagining of jak and it’s all mature and next gen awesomeness. I don’t see them doing anything childish or cartoony again. They made two of the best games of last gen and they were mature with great game play and story telling. Going back to crash or jak would be a step backwards …… They are way to talented man, they have to make another amazing experience in gaming and story telling. I’d say they are more of a rockstar like studio now. Mature story driven character experiences that come out once every couple years and change the game by raising the bar.

  • 30 years? pffft that’s nothing, these guys are just getting started.
You wait until your grand kids or great grand kids are Brain streaming the latest Naughty Dog title in 2084

  • This will look fantastic on my coffee table in my den. Very excited for the and TLoU Remastered. Happy Birthday Dogs!

  • Naughty Dog is a special gaming studio. Cheers to you Naughty Dog.

  • Will there be an upgrade offer for owners of TLOU on PS3 like other big games on the PS4
Possibly a €9.99 upgrade offer for the digital download?

  • Happy Birthday!! Thanks to you I met Crash and I was really really happy with my PS1 (the gray one)!! Please bring him back!!

  • I just want to say that it is sad how the sheeps are buying into this stuff….”the fans were demanding” well stupid things like this are the cancer in the industry nowadays and its sad to see Sony going into the path of greed.TLoU for PS4 is just as bad as MGS demo for $30/$20….Wolfenstein CE coming without the game…and funny how hypocrites bash other “remaster” like TR,Rayman but when it comes to TLoU its all okay…ha well TLoU is better than any game out there but that doesn’t mean it has the right to have a milked edition.

@ 33 MR_SUPREME69 – I play the MP almost everyday and this stupid cash-grabber milked edition will kill the online on PS3.But hoho good job ND.

@ 38 Gamerzlimited – You need to STFU…cuz you’re a blind ignorant.Next time come with an argument….trying to be tough?…now what in the world are you talking about?…yup I played the game already have more than 100 hours in that SP…yes a lot of time in the MP,got the season pass…I always support ND…so what? whats your point?…that I ain’t gonna be against them or Sony ever?…well when they do s**t like this of course I will.

  • @Welmosca Deal with it, companies do it all the time. If you don’t like the way they run their business, then GTFO. And the “MGS demo” was different because Kojima wanted to do it. We didn’t say the game should have been separated and it was all his idea. So the hate is justified and is considered a true stab in the back. Unlike your reason with TLoU, it’s plain stupid. And since you spend 100 on single player and multiplayer, why do you care? It’s not for you, it’s for those people who wants to play this AAA gem again or for the ones who never played it before.

And just to let you know since you played TLoU already, getting your neck ripped by a clicker really hurts. And that’s what your words do, hurt Naughty Dog with your petty insults.

  • Congratulations!!!! Happy Anniversary!!! You deserve it Naughty Dog!!!
