Update: Here’s the debut trailer following hot on the heels of yesterday’s official reveal.
Well, it’s no secret that we have been working night and day at the studio to bring The Last of Us to PS4.
We’re calling it The Last of Us Remastered.
Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements. We love setting challenging technical hurdles for us when working on each game – and this is no different. We’ve been working hard on The Last of Us Remastered to release a next-gen evolution worthy of the 200+ Game of the Year awards, not to mention the acclaim and expectations of our fans. We will be revealing more detailed information about the upgrades for the PS4 version in the coming months.
In addition to all the technical updates, we’re also including an exclusive director’s commentary for all in-game cinematics featuring Creative Director and Writer, Neil Druckmann; Voice Actor, Troy Baker, who plays Joel; and BAFTA Award winning Voice Actress, Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.
We’ve released a ton of additional content since The Last of Us launched in June 2013, including our first ever single player expansion, Left Behind. We’re happy to say that the major content releases will be included with The Last of Us Remastered:

- Reclaimed Territories pack – details will be coming soon on exactly what is included

Is the upgrade option a consideration at this point? I literally JUST bought the PS3 digital version after holding out for so long.
I hope people who’ve already purchased the original up until a specific date get a discount like 20 to 30 bucks or so, otherwise it’ll be really a slap in the face for those who’ve bought the game AND invested into Sony’s next generation of consoles, talking about customer intimacy. Plus I for my part have bought all the Sony in-house releases that have come out on their new console up until now. Anyways, what I’m saying is that people like me will be pissed and not gonna buy the game, especially if they’ve already completed it six time like me. Meaning, they are not gonna get much out of the these 60 bucks anymore.
Nonetheless, I’m a huge Naughty Dog fan and declare this personally, for myself, the best game to have ever been released. But people who have owned the game on PS3, bought the DLC just recently and played through the Story about 5 or 6 times, or even more, will definitely, I assure you, not buy the Remaster for that kind of price.
If they can offer Bishock Infinite on PS Plus for free, a triple A title that’s been out for less than a year, I think what I’m demanding right now is not too much to ask for and surely not a colossal cheek by any extent.
Will save games from the ps3 Verizon be available to use? Would like to do another game plus mode on Ps4? Also will there be an upgrade like there was for certain launch titles?
The blog post says Summer but the PlayStation Store shows a December 31st 2014 release date. Can this be clarified?
Can we get reversible cover art without the “200 GOTY Awards” at the top? I know it’s not a big deal, but it would be a nice option IMO. Also, I saw somebody ask for 3D… just got a 3D TV this year, would love it if possible.

Can you PLEASE tell us if there’s going to be an upgrade available from PS3 to PS4!! It’s not fair that I’d have to buy the game AGAIN (which by the way, it IS one of my favorite games all-time; I truly enjoyed it.) An answer would be nice; it’s a simple yes or no. Consider that some people have to SAVE UP to buy the game ($60), and AGAIN for those who bought it and spent countless hours playing it already.. if not so I can at least trade in my PS3 version which they’ll probably only give back like $5 (probably less)… which is enough for the pre-order, but still..

I don’t think they will give people who bought the game on PS3 any upgrade, I saw the comment and the only comments getting replay people who asking about the frame rate or dlc ect…. but they never talk about upgrading from ps3 to ps4 like what most game did @Eric Monacelli
Heard a leak a few wks back, and saw sony’s f-up, accidentally putting this up on ps store for 5 hrs yesterday, but then it was gone…. Thought it was another EXTREMELY ass-headed web hoax untl i loaded up the store today, and got a little swell in the pants… this will, by far, be the best game of 2014 too IMO. I played it over & over on ps3, MP never got old. Btw what ps3 owner didnt “get around” to playing the best game in the consoles lifespan, maybe of the lasr gen? The only games that did upgrades were the ones releasing withn a certain window of their next-gen mirrors…. so no…… they wont be giving you $50 off the Deus Ex sequel because you bought the first one, two winters ago… pretty sure ND is doing all this game making so they can make money, ergo, more games. Support ND, they make us buy something maybe every 3 yrs. And their work is worh 60 of my greenbacks ALL DAY. Id probly drop 2x that for this one. Pure. Epic. Triumph.

But will the Remastered Edition include the two behind-the-scenes documentaries, Grounded: The Making of The Last of Us & From Dreams: The Making of Left Behind, as I think they will be great additions! Also, will it have a cross-save with the PS3?

Pre ordered this the minute it was announced it really is a masterpiece and the best game of last generation the fact that it will run in 1080p and 60fps is amazing and hard to believe that a console can really do that. And also truly grateful for you guys adding left behind and the two multiplayer maps defiantly worth another 60$.
The Last Of US is quite simply the best story driven game that I have ever played.

I paid full price and just recently completed this excellent game. Of course, had I known the developers were secretly and disingenuously making a PS4 version as soon as they finished the PS3 one, I ABSOLUTELY would have waited for this upgrade. Please offer a discount or some kind of upgrade program if you don’t want a legion of disappointed, formerly loyal fans.
I will not fall for this again and will prepare by buying far fewer games! Lesson learned!

I appreciate that Eric is responding to some of the questions but still nobody has said how they can justify that $60 price tag. A lot of people who didn’t get to play it on PS3 are lucky to get this beautiful game on PS4, but why penalize those of us who already played it and supported you?
The Last of Us was my favorite game of the last gen. That said I already bought the game and season pass on the PS3 and there is no way I can justify paying more than at most $19.99 on an upgrade. 60 dollars for people that never played the game before is one thing (although even that is pushing it for a retouched year plus old game) but full price to rebuy virtually the identcal game?
You could justify full price to new owners only because The Last of Us was that good, but no way for people that already put $80 in to the game. In fact it is kind of an insult that you wouldn’t offer an upgrade discount. I mean how much money do you think you can leach from us? This is maybe worse than Call of Duty charging full price for a new title and a couple new maps on an identical game over and over.
