A Message From Jack Tretton

PlayStation Nation,

It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that I will be stepping down as President and CEO of SCEA effective March 31, 2014. This is a result of a mutual agreement with SCEA, and I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers.
Serving PlayStation fans for the past 19 years has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. Your passion for gaming inspired me every day.

I want to thank you for constantly pushing PlayStation to deliver breakthrough gaming and entertainment experiences, and to never settle for “good enough.” The embodiment of this commitment can be found in the PS4, which has quickly become the #1 next-gen console worldwide…thanks to you.

We’ve shared many memories over the past two decades and I’ll always be grateful for your support.

Thank you,

Jack Tretton

  • I can’t believe this. No one will ever be able to replace you Jack, you are the best thing that ever happened to PLAYSTATION as well as gamers worldwide. Please come back for E3. I wish you all the happiness you’ve given us over the years. And where ever life takes you next, is straight blessed to have you. Please be proud at how far you have taken us and the playstation family. Be proud with to walk out at such a moment of perfection. Be proud of the Jack Tretton Legacy. We sure are. I am 27 now so i was raised by Playstation, and as one of the millions of your children of the PlayStation Nation may I say it has truly been an honor Mr. Tretton. From the bottom of our hearts thank you, and farewell.

P.S To all those responsible for this travesty. When Jack leaves, all will crumble in his wake, may you spend the coming months scrambling to pick up the pieces of his empire.

Too much? Haha. Seriously though, shame on you to let go of such a titan of a man. Heres to you Jack

  • You were the best presenter at E3, your humble and down to earth attitude was one of the things that drew me towards sony, I was really looking forward to E3 this year to see what you had to say about all this success. I’m genuinely saddened to find out you’re leaving the company. I doubt they can replace you with anyone as good. I’m looking forward to E3 a little less now, and I feel a little less hopeful about the future now :( Hopefully everything was in order for your departure well ahead of time, so it’s a smooth transition and good luck to you in what ever you do next.

Maybe you could go save Nintendo’s consoles? :P

  • Thanks for your good work, Sir.
E3 is going to be changed this year.
Good luck and you next adventure Jacky T.
    See ya.

  • 348 although i am lovin the name neuropunk and the megaman avatar, andpersonalyI love some of these games but I am a little sick of these artsy 2 dollar phone games being sold for 15 bucks and are all anyone cares about anymore,… the playstation brand does seem to be leaning heavy on this just as Jack is “stepping down” so obiously its not him thats the problem . secondly a lot of todays indi market comes from small european groups. 3rd until you or I make a game thats any better we should shut up haha. and last, show some respect and give credit where credit is due, the standards that are set so high for real gamers like us were setby this man. the reason we exerienced these awesome games on platstation and no where else through to the years was because of him. He has always pushed the brand further and did everything he could to raise the PlayStation bar. If you love games like me the way i think you do, its mostly thanks to the exerirnces Jack made possible. and that far outshines some distaste you have for a couple of recent games

  • Man, I don’t want a Playstation 4 any longer.

  • Thank’s for everything Jack. E3 won’t be the same without you but i wish you the very best in all your endeavours. Much respect!

  • I will truely miss you at E3, Sir. You went with PlayStation through all the hard years of the PS3 launch, took a beating at the conference more than once, yet never lost your passion. Your spirit inspired me in my career decisions and daily life. I wish you nothing but the best for the future, wherever you see it. It makes me feel sad to see you leaving the company now that it got turned around, but i firmly believe this is a well made and ultimately the right decision. You will be missed.

    Thank you!

  • Dear Mr. Tretton,

The PlayStation Nation salutes you, thanks for all your hard work, and for sticking with Sony Playstation even in darker days (2006 – 2010). I think most President’s and CEO’s would have resigned really quickly if they had to face the problems you have faced, you stayed loyal to Sony Playstation, to get it back on Top where it is TODAY, you can be proud of your self Jack ;).

    **Sorry for my English.

Best regards from: The Netherlands (Europe).

  • It’s horible news from Sony ever, im so sad :(
    We all miss you Jack.

  • Well Jack…. Have A Great “After Sony”! You Did A Great Job While You Were In Charge… But I Was Wondering If You Could Do One Last Thing Before You Are Gone ForEver…

Could You PLEASE Change The New Vitas Screens From LCD Back To OLED?

THAT Would Be Great! Thank You!

  • Jack,

Thank you for all. I’ve always thought you were a very classy and stand-up guy and enjoyed your presence at E3 or whenever you’d pop up in the public eye. You did a wonderful job leading Playstation Nation and we’re all sad to see you go, but wish you the best of luck and enjoyment in your future adventures.

    -Jason

  • Playstation Needs you man! But if you must go then go in peace. God bless you man and thank you for everything you’ve done for the greatest gaming system known to man.

  • thank you for all your hard work

  • A sad day for the Playstation community. Jack, you’ve done a magnificent job over the years and the last 12 months has been remarkable due to your enthusiasm and showmanship. Thank you

  • Jack, you were a great boss to have at SCEA. No one feared you, but instead bragged that you were their boss. Being in FPQA in Foster City meant I never got to work directly with you, but we always felt like we were working with you in spirit to make the games better and to help refine the console experience.

My heart thrashes in pain knowing you will no longer be there at the helm, steering this mammoth of a ship through “the rising tide”. Sure, it raises all ships, but when the tide rises as high as the PlayStation brand has, it will come crashing down decimating the smaller ships with CEO’s their company’s fans want removed from office, or have already removed.

I’ve written something quaint for you at PSNStores, and finished by saying my son Jack who just turned 3 will always remember you…

  • Thank you Jack, you are super awesome :,)

  • Thank you for the memories and best of luck in your next adventure.
