A Message From Jack Tretton

PlayStation Nation,

It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that I will be stepping down as President and CEO of SCEA effective March 31, 2014. This is a result of a mutual agreement with SCEA, and I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers.
Serving PlayStation fans for the past 19 years has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. Your passion for gaming inspired me every day.

I want to thank you for constantly pushing PlayStation to deliver breakthrough gaming and entertainment experiences, and to never settle for “good enough.” The embodiment of this commitment can be found in the PS4, which has quickly become the #1 next-gen console worldwide…thanks to you.

We’ve shared many memories over the past two decades and I’ll always be grateful for your support.

Thank you,

Jack Tretton

  • I thank you Mr. Tretton for all you’ve done for Sony’s PlayStation brand since 1995. With the announcement of the PS4 you’ve proved, in a consumer like me, with whom I would trust. PlayStation is a brand I’ve learned for years that’s a recommended choice for the expert gaming consumer. You’re one of those faces from the brand I’ll never forget and hope your future path is what you’re looking forward to. Take care Mr. Tretton.

  • Definitely the classiest guy in the industry.

  • Thanks for everything Jack!

  • Take care, and thank you for your nearly two decades of commitment! I grew up on PlayStation 1 and 2, and am grateful that you were at the helm. Best wishes on your future endeavors!

  • Worst news to hit the gaming world this year.

Jack, you’ve always treated Playstation Nation with respect. Every year at E3 we watch the press conferences and the one genuine person on stage across all of them (Sony, MS and Nintendo) is you.

I’m concerned about the future of the PS4 now… worried that some bean counter suit will come in and screw things up.

Wherever you go next, they’ll be lucky to have you. Or maybe you’re just going to retire and live a good life. If so, it’s well deserved.

But damn, we’re going to miss you!

  • I am heartbroken. Jack was one of the reasons why I fell in love with the PS3 in 2008.

  • Don’t go. Please don’t go Rile…. I mean Jack!

  • Good luck in whatever you do next Jack, I wish you well and thanks for everything you have done for gaming so far.

  • Wish you the best Jack.
You did a lot of great things for both Playstation and the PS gamers.

  • Darn, i never thought this day would come.
Since i popped up my PS1 for the first time 12 years ago (yeah it was a bit late) until these days with my PS3. Playstation has been the meaning of entertainment and quality for me. And its all thanks to you Jack, you will be missed.

Thanks for everything, and i wish you the best of lucks T.T

  • Thank you for everything you’ve done for PlayStation, Mr. Tretton. We’ll miss you. Good luck in all your future endeavors. You are leaving Sony on a positive note, in light of PS4’s success and that’s awesome ;)

Seriously though, good luck in whatever you do, thanks for all that you have done.
Maybe you can go help Nintendo, since they have no clue how to run anything and show them how it’s done.

  • Best of luck in your future endeavors, Jack.

  • JJJJAAAAACCKKKKK – Forever Loved – Forever Missed
    with tears <3

  • You are such a great spokesperson. You always made E3 for me with your humble posture and respect. I really do hope your able to read a few of these comments before you leave for good. Good luck to wherever you go next. Sony is losing a very popular guy and whoever hires you is gaining someone really special and cool!

  • Greatness Awaits you where ever you go Jack. Here and BEYOND! Many thanks.

  • Good luck with all your future endeavors!

  • Good luck in whatever you do next. I’ll be eagerly awaiting that announcement.

  • Thanks for everything Mr. Tretton !

Will you stay with Playstation, or Sony? What’s next for you?

  • Any one know why he is leaving?! :( Jack is part of the reason I got my PSN ID tattooed on me and why I’ll be getting PS$ and why I continue to support Sony.

  • Such a sad day for Playstation. Good luck Jack in all your endeavors in the future. You will be sorely missed by Playstation gamers everywhere.

  • Jack, you were an upstanding guy and always a pleasure to watch speak. So sorry to see you leaving the Sony fold but best of luck in your future plans. You’ll be missed!

  • Ah Jack no! This is seriously DEVASTATING news!! :( you are the FACE of Playstation here and I’m seriously worried we have lost an irreplaceable part of Playstation. This is terrible news….but nevertheless, I wish you luck sir.

  • Thank you, Jack, for being such a fun, human, and endearing face of PlayStation for so long! It’s genuinely been a pleasure. Good luck in all your future endeavors!

  • Sad to see you go Jack! I hope you retire. All those years couldn’t have been easy on you!!! Time to put those fancy shoes and suits away and bring out the shorts and flipflops!

  • Being in the EU, all I can say is thank you for all the great E3 presentations!
    Best of luck!

  • bye tretton we’ll miss you.

  • Thank you Jack and good luck!!

  • e3 wont be the same with out you man. best of luck to you and what ever you got going next.

  • Best of luck, Mr. Tretton. From my point of view, you did a great job. Thanks!

  • I dream that this is some kind of an illusion reading such news or just a bad joke,I can’t stress enough of how highly i think of you as CEO of SCEA and that E3 2013 presentation of the PS4 is something that became engraved forever in my mind and memory,if its truly Goodbye then you will be very sorely missed here within the PlayStation family,God bless you Mr.Jack Tretton and thank you for all those amazing past years.
After being always an avid reader of the Blog but never logging in or commenting,i logged in for the first time ever into the PS Blog just to say the above,i couldn’t help it.

  • This doesn’t feel right. If Jack left for personal reasons, like spending time with family, wouldn’t he just have said that? If he is retiring, he would have mentioned that, too. I can’t imagine a scenario in which Sony would offer a mutual agreement to step down. He has done such a wonderful job! It just doesn’t make sense. Did another company offer him a bigger paycheck? What is happening at Sony?

  • :(

can you please – if you happen to give a presentation between now, and march 31 – drop the mic on stage, and walk off like a boss? i think it would mean a lot to some people to do that one last thing.

  • You were great at many of the E3 presentations over the years. You will be missed. Wish you the best in whatever comes next for you.

  • Sad news. I always enjoyed watching you kicking ass at E3, like many others did. Won’t be the same without you.
Good luck in wherever life takes you next. PS gamers will miss you!

  • Damn it! Jack, don’t go man. :(

  • Playing games is a big part of my life. I thank you for your involvement in creating the magnificent experience that is PlayStation. The past 15 years wouldn’t have been the same without you. Best of luck to you.

  • Good Luck on your future endeavors Mr. Trentton. You secured your place on PlayStation history!

  • best of luck

  • Jack! Jack! You’ll be missed and truly epitomized the class and culture of the Sony brand!

  • What wtf??NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Why are you leaving you were a father figure of PS you will be missed :(.

  • I’m really sorry to see you leaving. You were such a likeable and committed CEO while at SCEA. Hope you have great experiences wherever you end up.

  • You will be missed Jack. Your the man and E3 won’t be the same with out you. Thanks for the memories!

  • Love jou, Jack! Take care!

  • Yeah this sucks, he is one of the main reasons I stuck with playstation because you knew he had passion and cared about the product. Without jack I probably will move onto computer gaming

  • I wish you could stay for 1 more E3 :(
E3 wont be epic without you
    best of luck :)
