PlayStation Plus: February Preview

Typically when you think of February, your mind goes to chocolates, flowers, and other lovey-dovey things. So we thought we’d celebrate this sappy month by scaring the bejesus out of you with Outlast on PS4.

We also have some great single-player PS3 experiences, including Metro: Last Light, a first-person shooter with an interesting take on morality, and Remember Me, a third-person action adventure where you’ll take down an evil corporation by beating lots of people up with your own unique combos and messing with people’s memories. If you have a significant other, you might be able to rope him or her into some bank-robbing action with Payday 2 on PS3. After all, everyone likes stealing stuff. I mean, uh… nevermind.

Finally, two PS Vita titles are joining the Instant Game Collection: Street Fighter X Tekken and ModNation Racers: Road Trip. Both include functionality with their respective PS3 versions. Fight against your friends in Street Fighter X Tekken no matter what platform they have, or download your previously made PS3 creations and use them in ModNation Racers: Road Trip.

  • I’m so happy with PS+… i’m just afraid that it goes away… you know its too good to be true :P

  • Wow. I just got a PS3 this year and this is what I get. This is uncalled for. You guys shouldnt be ths inconsiderate to those Xbox owners! These awesome games and that awesome video? Bound to make someone jealous.

Nice Vita update. I beat and sold Modnation a year ago and probs wont download it. Lovin those PS3 games.Last month year people were cryn about the games sucking. NOT TODAY, BOB!

  • Good selection of games, and I only own two of them already!

I particularly like the Vita games.

I highly recommend Metro Last Light, one of my favorite games from last year.

  • Excellent update – I just wish I had time to play all these games. So many great PS + games and I’ve probably only play 1/4 of them. THANKS PlayStation!

  • PS+ is on fire! The instant games the past couple months have been highly rated, top notch games. I am gonna be downloading Metro Last Light which I have been very interested in, Remember Me and Pay Day 2. It is so easy filling up my 500GB PS3 with the PS+….. I have too many good games with my backlog. Since the PS4 came out, it seems like Sony stepped it up with PS+ and are giving better instant games and better discounts as well.

  • Finally a PS Plus month of games I don’t actually own, yeah!

  • When are this games coming up?!?! Cant wait!!!:D

  • Hey PS Team, Just curious on the ETA of the blue and red dualshock 4 in North America?

  • I’m good with Remember Me.

  • You guys are on fire! These games look great ^_^. By the time I get my PS4 I’ll already have a ton of games to enjoy~! Woot!. Well I did bought 4 years worth of plus when it was on sale for 30$/yr >_< Such a great deal!

  • Can we get less M rated games please?

  • Mostly looking forward to Metro and Street Fighter, but modnation and payday 2 seem worth a try. Remember me will probably have to wait as I still have a ton of games from previous months and sales to play. As long as we keep getting high quality IGC games like these I won’t mind the wait for the evergreen Vita titles to be refreshed. And thanks for the 2 Vita games this time!

  • I’ve never commented on one of these before, but I had to this time. February is going to be amazing. All of these titles are ones I want to play. Especially Remember Me and Last Light. So Sony, Thank you. My wallet, my soul, and my Ps3, Ps4, and Vita are happy.

  • Almost s*** my pants while I was at work today when I saw the line up for Feb. Did not expect 3 PS3 games this month. Metro LL I rented on the 360 and loved it and been wanting to play the other 2 games. Expected Outlast already and can’t wait to play it as soon as I finish paying the PS4 off on layaway. Again thx Sony glad I made the jump from Xbox last year to Sony

  • Amazing lineup this month once again. You all have really stepped up the offerings to be like EU! Keep up the great work!!!

Can’t wait to play Outlast on my PS4!!! Love the look and creepiness of that game

  • Haha! I was suppose to buy Metro: Last Light and Street Fighter x Tekken for Vita Next Week. There goes my plans then. And I’ve never actually played Remember Me. Soo Might as well give it a try.

Thank you based Doge! and Sony <3

  • Wow! This is such an amazing lineup! 2014 is definitely looking promising for PS+ Members! Glad to be a member.

  • AWESOME!!!!! only wish for Burnout Paradise with all DLC discounted

  • Oh my dear Lord. I cannot wait until Tuesday! What a great line up. Outlast I’ll definitely be getting on my PS4, and on top of that I get to add Metro Last Light (played it on PC and LOVED IT.) AND Payday 2!!! Pinch me, I think I’m dreaming. This is where Sony wins every time, the best games for free for PS Plus members.

  • EXCELENTE!!!!

  • Really excited to see Metro here, I was hoping that game would make its way to Plus eventually! Little iffy on Payday 2, but Remember Me looks worth checking out, and I’ll definitely be playing Outlast when I eventually get a PS4 (whenever that will be).
Overall this looks to be a pretty good month!

  • This is why I bought 3 years of PS+ subscription!
I thought about buying Metro Last Light during November but I did not buy it and that was a right decision now I get it for FREE.
My PS+ will expire in 2017, can’t wait to play these games and see more amazing games come to PS+ in the future.

THANK YOU SONY. To me, you are The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be!

  • Jesus Christ….PS Plus is officially overwhelming. Too many good selections.

  • SWEET MOTHER OF PEARL!!!! all 3 of my PS systems will be going with this update!! AWESOME and thanks SONY!

  • Sony stop it pls, my hard drive is crying QQ

  • So I have had ps plus since April 2013 and there has been many free vita games, is the vita worth getting for $200? or should I wait until Vita Slim comes to the US? I just want to play the games

  • YES! I actually requested SF x T last month, they’ve heard my request! LOL

  • guys. thank you!

first off, this is a pretty solid follow up to what was probably the greatest month of ps+ ever (and that’s saying something.. ) .. i already had all of the heavy hitters from last month, but was still happy to see them offered as part of the program.. and this month.. pretty cool stuff all around…

    .. except for the vita!

it’s hard to complain given the other benefits of ps+, as a ps3 and ps4 owner.. but as a vita owner and day 1 adopter, i must say the best news on that front is that I don’t think you guys have any more f’ing cart racers to add to the igc.. thank god. i think that’s what.. 6 fighters and 3 cart racers ?

why does sony hate the vita?

    concerned vita owner
    and happy ps3/4 owner
    mm

  • You had me at SFxT. I didn’t think you guys could top Jan’s update. You smashed it!

  • Does this go into effect on february 1st ?

  • this is beautiful -tear-

  • Oh yeah, Sony you guys have done a great job developing PS plus. Ive been a member since 2010 just a few months after it launched and it is 1000 times better !

  • need something like Dragons Crown, Muramasa Rebirth or Atelier Meruru

    for ps3 Hyperdeimension Neptunia Victory

but great line ups so far for jan and feb

  • @Ajanma:
    @TheOathsworn:

You may know this already, but there’s no need to download every game you want right away. You can just start the download and cancel it right away, and it will be in your download list forever*. Works for purchased games, too.

    * – …unless you’re concerned that your download list will glitch at some point, and just want the added security of having all games downloaded (both owned and “owned”).

    @boomstickhg: Jesus Christ, dude.

@everyone: There will be a Plus post each Monday telling us which game(s) will be added to the IGC that week. The games will be added the next day (Tuesday) when the store updates, usually by 2pm Pacific Standard Time (PST) GMT -8. The IGC list is complete; no new IGC games will be announced until the March preview.

Of course, if you’re like many others and don’t read any one else’s posts…then never mind. :P

  • This lineup is incredible. I am excited for every single one of these titles. Amazing Vita games. As if I needed anymore reason to be a Playstation gamer!

  • Those vita games tho.
    Thanks you guys (and Sony)!

  • This is why I bought a year subscription yesterday! I NEVER thought last month could be topped, BUT YOU DID IT!

  • YAYYY for Metro Last Light, can’t wait for this game!

  • I have only been a member since December. Are there ever any sports or puzzle games, or are there just shooters every month? Not complaining at the lineup, they are good games, but I would like a wider variety.

  • @ boomstickbhg

Would you please just shut up already…

NOBODY cares about all that crap you’re always crying about.

Find something else to do if gaming makes you so miserable.

    Anyway…

This update is awesome, just like all the others were. I don’t even really like FPS games that much, but I’ll give Metro a spin. It kind of has a compellingly spooky vibe to it, and I like that, so… it’s worth a shot.

Regarding value, just ONE of the PS3 games in this update reimburses the yearly subscription fee, so nobody should ever be complaining about that, for sure.

  • woah..plus vs gold(dead island 1)..lol

  • To mirror the earlier remarks about feb PS+ thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

  • At first, I thought this sounded good. Then I looked deeper at some reviews. I don’t think I’ll play any of these games as they all sound mediocre. Thankfully, I’ve got a good backlog of options from prior months and recent discount purchases.

Suggestions for the future: I’d love to see Okami HD, Braid, and a Limbo Vita.

Can we get less M rated games please?”

If you look in the store under the PS+ games where it shows what is currently available, out of the 20 games shown (across PS4 / PS3 / Vita & PSP) 14 of them are NOT rated M. (here’s a link http://us.playstation.com/playstation-plus/?CMP=soc_us__pn_psblog_dotcomplus_1_21_14 )

That is 70% NON rated M games. Even if you add in the scheduled February releases the percentage of NON rated M games is still over half. This isn’t even taking into account the games that just fell off of PS+ or games that have been on it in the past. I have something like 75+ games that I got using PS+ and there are a LOT of them that are not rated M.

If you don’t like the selections based on their rating then that’s fine. Just don’t go saying they have too many rated M games when that statement is explicitly false. They just happen to have a month where 5/6 games are rated M. Just to give you perspective, the December update had 1 rated M game (Borderlands 2) and the January Update had 2 M games (Bioshock Infinite and DMC).

Bottom line, there are not “too many” rated M games in PS+

  • Outlast: Looks pretty cool. But again, it could’ve been a PS3 game.

Metro: Last Light: Although I’m sick of modern FPS game, this one is actually great. Great choice.

PayDay 2: Never played the first one, but I already know this one is a step backwards in the franchise.

Remember Me: Nobody cared about this game, and nobody will ever care about it, because it sucks. It tries too hard to be an action-packed Prince of Persia or Enslaved, but it falls short way too fast, resulting in a boring and extremely linear platform action game.

Street Fighter X Tekken: At least make it for PS3…

ModNation Racers: Road Trip: Nobody will care at this point probably.

    (cont.)

  • I want classic games (PS1/PS2) for IGC. Instead of Vita games nobody cares or games of the present that nobody remembers already (I think that’s why they named it “Remember Me”, they looked ahead of the results and they put a name like a message).

    Ideas for IGC:
    Arcana Heart 3
    Prince of Persia
    Devil May Cry
Catherine (I don’t really want it, but I know is a great puzzle games that a lot of people will enjoy)
    Legasista (Interested me, looked ‘different’)
    Warp

For PS2: God Hand, Siren series and that kinda games, Personas and SMT, Gitaroo Man ?,and… I don’t really know which other games there are…
For PS1: I don’t know… Silent Hill, MGS, for example.
