PS Vita 3.00 System Update Out Now

Hi everyone! We’ve released a new system software update for PS Vita, version 3.00. This update includes some great features, like a new application called PS4 Link, which — you guessed it — allows PS Vita to connect to PS4 for Remote Play and Second Screen capabilities. We’re thrilled for everyone to see how PS Vita will be the ultimate companion device to PS4 through this application.

We made a video to highlight some of the key features in this new update. Have a look!

For an expanded list of the new updates included in PS Vita’s 3.00 system software, read on:

PS4 Link

The PS4 Link app has been added to the PS Vita system’s home screen. With this application, you can use your PS Vita to remotely control a PS4 system, and play a range of PS4 games on your PS Vita screen. When you’re playing a game on PS4 that supports second screen features, you can also display information from that game on your PS Vita and use it as a second screen.

Parental Controls

The Parental Controls application has been added to the home screen. You can now manage the duration of game play, and the use of games and videos that have parental controls. You can also control access to certain areas of the system, including the use of the Internet browser and Location Data.

Photos

ŸA Panoramic Camera setting has been added. You can now take panoramic photos on PS Vita, and look around the photo by using the PS Vita’s built-in motion sensor.

Friends

The application layout for Friends has been improved. There are now four tabs:

  • Find Player on PSN
  • Friends
  • Friend Requests
  • Players Blocked

Messages

The Group Messaging application name and icon have been changed to Messages. The application layout has also been improved, and you can now send and receive messages with friends and players on PS4 or on mobile devices installed with PlayStation App.

Party

The icon for the Party application has been changed. You can now voice chat and text chat with friends and players on PS4.

Email

You can now sync the contacts saved in your email account from services including Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. To sync your contacts, select Contact List > Options > [CardDAV Settings] > [Add CardDAV Account], and then follow the screens.

Content Manager

You can now use Wi-Fi to connect your PS Vita to a PS3, and transfer data between them. Your PS Vita and PS3 must be connected within the same network.‎ Also, to use this feature, the system software of the PS3 you’re using must be version 4.50 or later.

PS3 Remote Play

The Remote Play application name and icon have been changed to PS3 Remote Play.

Settings

You can now download future system software updates automatically.

Trophies

You can now display Trophies of PS4 software on your PS Vita. Rarity of the trophy cannot be displayed.

  • Important things that people are actually asking for, that seems to be getting ignored…

PS3 FIRMWARE: Add the ability to organize your games by ALPHABETICAL ORDER… We’ve been asking for 7 years now!

VITA FIRMWARE: Add support for ALL of the PS1 Classics (Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Spyro 1-3… Mark Cerny even wants this!!)

PS4 FIRMWARE: Add support for MP3 & DNLA playback (19,000 people asked for this. Sony said “hmm… maybe” and then moved on)

  • Totally agree with 96. More junk we don’t need. Please fix the 100 icon limit. Please listen.

  • This is a great update, with remote play being the standout. Thank you!

  • If people wanna comment on PS3/PS4, they should probably do that on another post. But I definitely think there needs to be a more serious conversation about all the things that need help on the Vita yet.

I know it’s not a phone replacement, but there’s so much wasted potential, what with missing apps (streaming video apps, a text reader, other music services far better than Sony Unlimited), an outdated browser that struggles with modern websites, and a Facebook app that runs like a Cricket phone app.

I keep trying to sell people on the Vita, but some days I feel like a Republican trying to explain to minorities why they should consider my party.

  • Can you please add the ability to add multiple users/profiles to the Vita like on the PS3

  • Sony,

Can you please fix the adding funds to wallet problem on PSN account? I’m pretty sure this is well known bug that has not been solved yet. And no I will not use PayPal to add funds.

  • Awesome update

  • I really, really, really hoped you guys fixed the PS Store freezing issue. If not, there is no reason Sony should be ignoring this.

  • The update’s nice, but the asinine 100-app limit and the “Preparing to download…” freezing of the PS Store are killing me, Sony.

  • I also hope you aren’t adding more bubbles. We don’t need a bubble for parental controls or other nonsense when there is a 100 bubble limit. If you’re going to add pointless new bubbles, at least have the decency to remove the ridiculous limit. Why don’t the most common complaints even get addressed by you guys?

  • I hope you fixed the software crashes with near on the first gen 3g psvita systemswhile they are in stanby/sleep mode on a 3g signal. most likely it could be an error in the qualcomm 3g modem driver being used. I don’t use the 3g modem much but still it becomes a prob when i have to force power it off or it suddenly restarts on me. when near crashes or locks up.

  • I am loving the update the new friends list is awesome :D thank you sony. Now getting teased by the PS4 Link icon I want a PS4 :(

  • @110 Add the useless bubbles you don’t like in a Bubble folder. That’s what I did

  • @113 That doesn’t solve the problem though. Everything in your folders still counts towards the bubble limit.

  • Had to reset a blinking blue light shortly after downloading this update. I was attempting to hop onto the Rayman Legends challenge mode at the time and Ubisoft’s servers have been acting up tonight so not sure if this is related or not but thought I would pass it on. Reset worked fine and nothing was lost so all is well. Can’t wait to check out remote play with PS4 on the 15th. From what I know Knack and Resogun will work however I am really curious if Killzone(I would assume yes as it is a first party game but it is also a huge game so…) and Assassins Creed 4?

  • …will work. Sorry for not completing my sentence. You guys should add an edit button. Oh and like someone above me mentioned the ability to delete bubbles we don’t use. I don’t take photos with my Vita or listen to music or any of that, I use it to play games. It’s cool that those features are available if I want them but I personally, do not.

  • yea my psvita sometimes i get mad when my psvita freezes when i download something

  • So a couple new “features”, renamed apps and bugfixes? Oh, no bugfixes because Vita software runs flawlessly, right?

I’m sure all the new PS4 features will be fixed within weeks of the PS4’s release while the same bugs that have been around for a year will go untouched (hanging on Store d/l, having to restrt system to *maybe* fix it, horrible web browser etc.)

It’s no wonder Vita is doing so poorly when first party support is complete garbage. Come on Sony, stop dragging your feet and give Vita owners a reason to be proud of their investment. Fix this stuff that has been a huge pain in the neck for AGES all ready!

  • for the love of gaming, i just want remote play to work when i travel. i have a 30mbps internet connection…i hope i hope i hope it works away from home.

  • there is so much wasted potential in vita updates that sony is not exploting.

    1. add multi-user account. ps3 can do that, ps4 can. why not ps vita? since u added parental control , we need multi- user account. u expect us to give the vita to kids for them to play. how about account management for multi account??

    2. fix that annoying preparing to download bug

    3. remove icon limit. so stupid.

    4. why add a parental control bubble? this could have been in the settings menu.

    5. ability to hide default icons like near, maps,

    6. u think people actually use the vita camera???

    7. ability to browse the full psn store not just the vita store to purchase ps3 and ps4 content.

    8. support subtitle files for videos, like srt.

  • 9. make copying items back and forth faster using CMA!! its a shame u gotta wait so long.

    10. improve the web browser, such a joke.

    11. no white icon when u open a folder. i wanna see my bubbles as it is. not wait for them to refresh.

    12. a better UI for the vita which matches the ps4 eco system.

    13. friend app is nicely done.

    14. change/ replace icons with actual tiles with live notification. a bit like windows phone.

    15. keep updated version of games/apps on the psn store. why download a game and then wait for the patch to download? why cant u update the apps from the store directly with latest version. apple app store can. so why cant u sony??

    16. ability to pre download vita games before store is live.

    17. ability to download vita titles from the psn store directly to a pc and then ability to copy it over. i dont want to use my vita to download a 3gb game on a slow connection and then havwe to recharge to play the game.

  • The 100 icons has been increased a while ago with the use of folders.
You can now go to 1000, in theory. I doubt your Memory Card could even have that much space.

  • 18. add incremental firmware updates. delta updates in other word. just like ps3 and how apple delivers its firmwares.

  • @122 – unless this has changed with this update (haven’t tested it yet). even with folders you are still limited to 100 icons.

I really hope this has changed – 100 icons is not enough.

  • @122 CommandingTiger
Even if you use folders the bubbles in them still count towards the 100 icon limit. Sony really needs to get rid of this limit, especially since they have a 64 GB card out there (at least in Japan so far).

It’s infuriating that SCEA keeps ignoring these issues despite so many people asking about them, for example many of us are still waiting for more PSone Classics like Spyro and Crash to be available on the system but all questions are seemingly ignored.

  • Agreed that some direct recognition of a fix for the months-long store download bug is in order. It should not be acceptable to you, Sony, that your consumers (and supporters, frankly — why else would we be here?) have to power down their devices after trying to download a purchase in order to get it to work correctly.

  • Well, well, well, I opened up my friends app after the update and received a welcome surprise. I’m really liking the look of it. It’s cool how we can also change the order of the friends list and see what system friends are playing on. I also noticed there’s a separate message group for Game Invites in the messaging app. Nice update and all, but because PSBlog.share still isn’t updated, I’ll post my suggestions/wants here.

    1) Instant message receiving (like the PS3), or shorter refresh intervals.
    2) Ability to transfer vita saved data separate from the game (no, not the Plus exclusive cloud uploads).
    3) Ability to press the PS button and not be disconnected from online matches, etc. (like how the ps3 works)
    4) Copy/Paste function with the keyboard.
    5) Ability to create folders/playlists in the music/video/photo apps directly from the vita.
    4) Ability to hide unused apps
    5) Access to premium avatars on vita (why this doesn’t already exist is beyond me)

And of course like everyone else is asking, please remove the 100 app limit. It hasn’t affected me personally, but I csn see how it could be problematic for people with larger memory cards.

    Thanks as always Playstation.

  • hmm… I noticed I have 4) 5) twice lol.

@Elvick I check my friends’ updates pretty regularly as well, so yeah, I know how you feel.

  • @122 – That is not true. The bubbles in your folders count towards the 100 count, so it is still 100.

  • This update is fantastic, however, there are 2 things I wish were added.

    1. The stability improvement for downloadimg games on the PlayStation Store. The Vita is known to stay on the “Preparing to download” screen, causing the item being downloaded unable to start. This needs to get fixed A.S.A.P. If you guys had enough time to fix the Group Messages bug, where every message you send from the Vita ends up in your PS3’s inbox, then you guys should have had time to fix this as well.

    2. Cross-Game Messaging. This NEEDS TO BE ADDED! I hate it when I play a Vita game online, and I have to back out of every match just to message someone. Please, integrate that feature into the Quick Menu (menu that pops up when you hold the Home Button), so we can receive and send messages without having to back out of games, online or offline, and/or online services.

Besides that, this update is great.

  • Parental controls, yet now we know sub accounts will forever remain sub accounts. Seems easier for minors just to lie right out of the gate.

And yeah, I’ve been hit by that download problem too. I always hold my breath when downloading something straight from the Vita. I now download my Vita content to my PS3 and then transfer, but I don’t think that works with PlayStation Mobile games.

  • will we ever get to change our premium avatar on a PS Vita?

  • Can I finally transfer games, that another account bought on my PS3, to my Vita?

If not, any news if this will be possible on VITA TV? (Or simply allow multiple PSN accounts on a single device like the PS3/PS4)

  • How about focus on games rather than updates?

Why are you acting like Vita don’t exist? You guys own several first party studios you can MAKE develop vita games.

Infamous Vita, Ape Escape Vita and a new LBP Vita would sell great.

  • This is one of the BEST updates EVER :P Nice one SONY Thanks ;)

  • It’s great update but let us choose custom avatars from vita not all of us have got ps3 -_- and please remove 100 bubbles limit

  • Guys, the hanging in the store might be gone…

Since i bought my Vita, i’ve been trying to install “a space shooter for two bucks” on it.

I tried from the store, always hung, no matter how many times i’d reboot, it would hang on the first try.
Then from the content manager on PS3, it would never see the game in the content list, even if i had the install file downloaded and ready… other content yes, but not that one!
And from the website! I was going into my download list and using the “send to my vita” feature, that one would always hang and never install.

Last night, i went to the psn store on my vita and installed it from the first try.

Now was that super sheer luck, maybe, i haven’t had the chance to try any other games yet cause i had to go… but i intend to try again later on. I recommend you try a few to see!

  • did you fix the no more than 100 icons?

  • Nice, now I just want to play my Ps1 and PSP on my VITA ^.^

  • Yay! I woke up this morning with the update already downloaded to my Vita!! Now… I need a bigger memory card.

  • Hey Hey i hope we get kool app game but i love see home on here i love update guy keep good work

  • still no 2000 friends limit on PS Vita or PS3 Come on make it happen quickly!

  • Sony, what are you doing to get more third party support for vita?? This amazing handheld is being wasted…………. Even if it emans funding a few at first, a few big third party games would do wonders for vita (GTa San andreas stories for instance)

  • are we gonna receive at some point DS3/DS4 support on vita, as in the vita TV?

  • We need an update to fix the whole ‘online’ thing when using the Vita. When I’m on my Vita I appear as offline to my friends on PS3. Not only that but at the very bottom of the list too. Can you fix this so we appear online?

  • Am I the only person that loves the browser? I mean, sure it sucks when a game or facebook is open. Since it constantly refreshes for some reason. Other than that, it works great for me. I do wish it could save info on it though. Or at least sign you into the PS Blog easily, like how Android can sign you into Google accounts via the web browser.

    Copy Android, Sony!

Or release a PS Blog app for PS Vita.

@127: If you hold PS button, it won’t exit you out of online. I guess the best solution is to add more functions to that. Some games ask if you want to disconnect when you hit the PS button (really nice for when you fudge up taking a screenshot online! Killzone and Soul Sacrifice do it, Wipeout doesn’t, only ones I’ve really played online.)

@134: You know that the people that work on the system software don’t make games right? It’s not really taking anything away from games.

  • @143: They opened up the 3rd Party Production team… did you miss that? They’re the ones getting Borderlands 2 done for PS Vita.

  • @Elvick yeah I’m aware holding down the PS button does not disconnect you from online. So if they (for some reason) decide to keep it where ‘pressing’ it does disconnect you from certain games, then yes I agree they should at least add more options to the “hold down” menu. Specifically, allow us to select songs and check messages/game invites.

@mastorofpuppetz On top of Borderlands 2, vita’s also getting Injustice and the Amazing Spiderman sometime this month. However, yes, I would LOVE to see a GTA made for vita.

  • Good morning everyone how yall doing. Well i just updated my ps vita to find out they mite do another update only to fix the parental app its asking me for a password i have not put one yet that is a problem. Another problem is when i purchase a game it just stays there and i have to turn off the system. Plz Sony fix it. Thank you.

  • “You can now use Wi-Fi to connect your PS Vita to a PS3, and transfer data between them.”

YES! This is the best part of the update. Surprised it took this long, but still, glad to have it!
