The Drop: Week of August 19th 2013 New Releases

Saints Row IV arrives on PS3 and PSN this week. The head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. But the Saints are just getting started. Now the larger-than-life insanity of the Saints series gets a new twist with a catastrophic alien invasion, and the aliens have transported the Saints to a bizarro-Steelport simulation. Wield gargantuan superpowers and fight to free humanity from alien granddaddy Zinyak’s mental grasp. Escape the simulation that’s trapped the Saints crew, or die trying.

As a Cross Buy and Cross Play title on PS3 and PS Vita, Divekick distills the essence of the fighting genre into a two-button, no-joystick, rage-inducing form that can be enjoyed by anyone. You have no traditional directional movement.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop!

The-Bureau-XCOM-DeclassifiedThe Bureau: XCOM Declassified

The battle of humans against an invading alien force erupts in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a new story and unique gameplay experience set inside one of gaming’s most storied and beloved franchises. Set in 1962 at the height of the Cold War, The Bureau tells the origin story of the clandestine XCOM organization’s first encounter with a mysterious and devastating enemy. Originally established as America’s covert defense against the Soviet Union, The Bureau must adapt and overcome a threat unlike anything the world has faced before. As special agent William Carter, players will call the shots and pull the trigger, leading their squad of agents in the high-stakes secret war for humanity’s survival. Paramount to repelling the outside threat is The Bureau’s ability to cover-up the enemy’s existence in order to prevent worldwide panic.

In the spirit of the XCOM franchise, The Bureau’s calculated combat design requires players to think and act tactically. The game’s third-person perspective gives the player a sense of spatial awareness and grants them the freedom to transition in and out Carter’s unique Battle Focus ability seamlessly — heightening the tactical shooter action. The Bureau also fully embraces the concept of permanent consequence. As our last line of defense, every command can mean the difference between life and death for Carter, his squad and mankind.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist

The United States has a military presence in two thirds of countries around the world. A group of 12 have had enough and initiate a terror ultimatum called the Blacklist — a deadly countdown of escalating terrorist attacks on U.S. interests. Sam Fisher is the leader of the newly formed 4th Echelon unit: a clandestine unit that answers solely to the President of the United States. Sam and his team must hunt down these terrorists by any means necessary, and stop the Blacklist countdown before it reaches zero.

Unleash the power of the most lethal agent to ever exist. You’ve been given the ultimate freedom to protect innocents against the Blacklist terror attacks known as — the freedom to use limitless force, to break every law, and to become the globe’s deadliest operative. If you succeed, the President of the United States will deny you exist. If you fail, millions will die.

(Cross Buy + Cross Play PS3/PS Vita) — You can only dive into the air with the Dive button (it’s a jump) and then propel yourself toward the ground with a mighty kick, using the Kick button. Kicking while on the ground will cause you to bounce away from your opponent. The first hit wins each round; first to five rounds wins the game!

As simple as this sounds, trust that underestimating your opponent is a dangerous mistake. Movement is unorthodox, and players are unable to guard against incoming attacks. Finding the optimal spot to stand in order to score a counter is key, but actually standing in that position is a lot harder than you’d think! Players can also build up their Kick-Meter to activate Kick-Factor, a super charged mode in which your character dives higher and kicks faster. Watch your head, however, as one solid foot to the face scores a headshot and leaves you with a concussion in the next round. Stunned players don’t dive as high or kick as fast, leaving them at a massive disadvantage.

Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers combines authentic Second World War settings and a fictitious story that will lead the player through arcade-flight action.

PlayStation 2 Classic

Naval Ops Commander The true sequel to the original Kurogane no Houkou, Naval Ops: Commander returns to the series’ heavier tactic-oriented roots and emphasizes construction and strategy over action. New features include the TBG Tactical Battle Group System (which allows players to have real-time control over their primary warship), additional camera viewpoints, 200 different weapons, 1000 different ship parts, and over 80 varied stages.

Kessen III Follow-up to Koei’s first two strategy games, set in ancient Japan.

  • any word on when we will receive the ‘play’ promotion $10? and what about walking dead for vita? unless there’s gonna be a plus discount, of which i am cool waiting for the plus post to find out more :)

  • What about The Walking Dead Season 1? Isn’t that releasing on the Vita this week?

  • #6 prattangry, you mean pre-order digital edition for gta 5 ? i think it will be there around August 27 or september 3.. if no pre-order option then it may be day one digital on september 17

  • Is Splinter Cell gonna be available for download on psn or just Saints Row 4?

  • Divekick…1 hit ko…smh

    Nothing appealing on this drop.

  • I hope they’re not just going to skip the first Kessen, it’s a great game that is still worth playing even with the others in the series that came out later. Maybe Square Enix will finally get on board with the PS2 Classics too or even release the Enix PS1 stuff eventually.

  • the Splinter Cell description is actually sickening.. from both perspectives. How desperate is the US empire to still be making such blatant propaganda games, how can anyone actually still be falling for this false campaign?

  • I pre-order splinter c3ll and I hope it we get the free DLC ps plz don’t rip us off with the DLC you have a good day :)

  • #11 Mattman0419, splinter cell available to download at 3am eastern time.. central is 2am and 12am pacific time if you pre-order it in psn store now before too late

  • WOOOW Thats a awesome line up of Vita games. Where´s Walking Dead for vita? The release date was 21-08.
aand…the Rayman demo is for ps3 and Vita? or just PS3?

  • Is the walking dead out on the vita this week? Also will 400 days be included on the vita card?

  • I will be getting Saint’s Row 4 as soon as it’s available on PSN. Hoping there’s a sale like there was with Metro, but since there wasn’t a pre-order I doubt it. Tales of Xillia did end up being $5 cheaper than I expected though, so you never know. xD

  • I pre-ordered The Walking Dead PS Vita bundle. It will be my first Vita so please tell me it’s still coming out this week. I

  • @8, I think they said by August 31st on the Play promo. I was actually hoping for the Walking Dead on the Vita, myself. I know they said it would be releasing around now. Of course, if it were delayed, it isn’t like Sony would put out an announcement letting people know! Sony is beyond things like that!

  • Will it be possible to preorder Rayman Legends on the PSN? Will there be a Vita/PS3 Bundle for a little savings for the die hard fans?

  • hey FunkyTable, i hope so.. :)

  • GTAV pre-order… Come on little doggie… Don’t be shy… Come on…

  • #24 smallestofseeds.. me too.. man come on sony to put pre-order up for GTA 5..

  • Still no Crash or Spyro on Vita, I see.

  • Sooooooo, is the walking dead for vita only launching at retail on the 20th or did the Psblog yet again forget an important title in “the drop”. I love Sony and my vita and ps3 and soon my ps4, but it feels like you guys are phoning it in on the blog. I would imagine the Vita could use all the help it could get. Same thing happened when the Vita version of Ratchet and Clank finally launched months late no mention on the drop. Its not like its a secret that the game comes out Tuesday- GameStop is selling a special bundle with it.

  • Anymore PSone classics? Are they dead now?

  • Jeff Gerstmann on the PS Blog? Say what? COOL.

  • 12GBPS3 for $199 is just to much for 12GB is not for psn gamers I have 500GB and still need more space you guys need to make one with 1000GB

  • Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers is a unique flight simulation with strategy elements and a compelling storyline. As Lucas Stark, Admiral in the US Navy in charge of the USS Enterprise (CV 6), you control aircraft missions that take place over the Pacific Ocean during WWII. On the other hand, should you choose the side of the Japanese, you will embody Hideaki Hashimoto and take charge of the carrier known as Zuikaku, representing the Imperial Japanese Navy in a fight till the death. Featuring innovative multiplayer modes, true-to-life weaponry and huge collection of war machinery, this is no ordinary flight simulation.

•Dynamic WWII flight simulation with complex ship models, advanced particle systems and improved terrain details
•Campaigns feature 5 battles with multiple missions and assignments
•Innovative multiplayer modes, true-to-life weaponry and huge collection of war machinery including 3 aircraft carriers, 22 battleships and 13 airplanes
•Assignments include Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Sink the Carrier, Watchtower, Patrol, and more

  • @IXxHIJACKERxXI I think that the 12gb PS3 is meant for people who are more casual gamers and mainly use it as a bluray player/media device.

It’s also a good base system if you were planning on buying your own HDD. It’s cheaper that way anyway. Just get this PS3, a 1TB 2.5″ laptop hdd and there you go.

Also, this drop is kinda lame. The vita sales will be good though.

  • They always leave a few things off the drop. Maybe it is because TTG will write a post tomorrow for the release tuesday. I don’t think they have ever put anything walking dead related on the drop post.

I am glad to hear more people are getting a vita. Such a wonderful machine. I would just like to say don’t buy any extra memory until after the gamescom presentation in case they drop the price and or offer bigger cards. I filled my 32 up almost completely with what plus has given us.

  • hawjboi2009 , you 3rd and 4th. you lost.

  • I wish they would make a 64gb card for the vita, I keep having to delete stuff to make room for new games.

  • 4th .. i lost ? huh what you mean by that ?

  • I want to say that I personally love the Vita. In fact, I have bought 3 of them so far. One for myself, one for a friend, and one for my oldest son. That being said, it is sad that I am promoting this system more than Sony is. A few days before a major release and the blog fails to have the game listed. The Walking Dead may be a system seller to some especially with the bundles being offered. Add to this the upcoming KickBeat from Zen studios which lets you import your own music into a rhythm game and the most anticipated Killzone Mercenary and it seems as if not much has been done in the way of promotion. I will continue to love my Vita and I still play it more than the PS3. I have my PS4 paid off with all launch games and an extra controller for the family. I will support Sony. I just wish they did the same for their products…

Grabbing SR4 day one for sure.
It’ll be the game of the month for sure.
Last couple weeks haven’t been great, so thank you Sony.

  • Some Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate-related questions:
-Will it have a PSN Day 1 Pre-order
-Will the PSN version have the pre-order costumes that Gamestop is offering?

  • Also will there be a PS Plus discount as well?

  • It will just be easier if Sony add 1000GB HDD :D or Remove the Blu-ray player and make it all digital with a lot more %GB
