The Drop: Week of April 8th 2013 New Releases

Cross-Buy Guacamelee! for PS3 and PS Vita on PSN this week. Guacamelee! draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters. The game also blurs the boundaries between combat and platforming by making many of the moves useful and necessary for both of these.

The game features a down on his luck Mexican named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente’s Daughter is kidnapped by an Evil Charro Skeleton. The story takes place in and around a small village in Mexico, and has the player travelling between parallel dimensions on his quest to rescue the girl he loves.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

Guacamelee!

(Cross-Buy PS3/PS Vita) — Guacamelee is a Metroidvania style game with a light world/dark world component where you play as a luchador. The game can be played entirely cooperatively with the first player controlling Juan and the second playing a woman known as Tostada. The combat consists of melee attacks, as the name suggests, such as punches, grapples and throws. There are also other moves you learn to help traverse the environment such as uppercuts, ground pounds and turning into a chicken. The switching between the light and dark worlds is done on the fly and is used in both combat and traversal.

XCOM_Enemy_Unknown_Game_CoverXCOM: Enemy Unknown — XCOM: Enemy Unknown will place you in control of a secret paramilitary organization called XCOM. As the XCOM commander, you will defend against a terrifying global alien invasion by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies and individual unit tactics.

The original X-COM is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made and has now been re-imagined by the strategy experts at Firaxis Games. XCOM: Enemy Unknown will expand on that legacy with an entirely new invasion story, enemies and technologies to fight aliens and defend Earth. You will control the fate of the human race through researching alien technologies, creating and managing a fully operational base, planning combat missions and controlling soldier movement in battle.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X — Set in conceived version of the future inspired by the best-selling Tom Clancy videogame franchises, this flight combat action game imagines a world where a private military force has cumulated such power that it attacks the USA. Thrust into the cockpits of incredibly powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters, gamers will benefit from hi-tech piloting assistance, providing comfort, security and enhanced perception. As players gain skills and confidence, they will be able to shed the assistance. But before choosing performance over security, they’ll have to weigh the risks carefully.

John Daly’s Prostroke Golf — John Daly’s ProStroke Golf is an interactive game with a number of fully licensed courses and five different play modes. Put the ball in play with the revolutionary design and realistic physics of ProStroke View and Prostroke Swing!

Table Mini Golf (PS Vita) — Table Mini Golf is a bite-sized game with monster-sized scope – you’ll use the AR Play cards to construct dozens of mini-golf courses across most flat surfaces of your choosing, and then pick one of three stylish characters to show off your putting skills in style.

  • Wow, and actual “Classic” PS2 game, still own it on disc, but an amazing sight none the less.

  • Wish there would be a DEMO for the vita, so i can see if i pre-order it, maybe the game will hit the U.S without DEMO for it :(

  • Another lousy drop. Was hoping that eventually the Vita would start getting as many new and exciting releases as the PS3 had been — turns out it went the other way!

Just one Question Rey… May I play Fatal Frame in my Ps vita????? I need that kind of game in my vita.

  • Fatal Frame? Hell yes, day one.

Guacamelee looks good – I’ll pick it up as soon as it goes on sale with Plus. There’s always some kind of discount in the first few weeks, and I’ve got other games to play now.

  • Bummed out that another week goes by without the Soul Sacrifice demo. Japan had access to it for a least a month if not 2 before release.

  • Getting Guacamelee this evening. Looks fun as hell!

  • @94: Because licensing… duh. I just said it.

Explain to me how all of them, but those are up on PSN…

One would think that indicates they WANT to put all their content on PSN. Yet they haven’t with those two… GEE WIZ, WHERE’S NANCY DREW WHEN YOU NEED HER? All these others are on PSN, they put everything on there, but these aren’t? WUTTTTTT WHYYYYYYY

Maybe because they can’t. Maybe they would if they could, and if they could.. they would have.

    Durr

Tecmo Koei NEEDS to release an HD collection of the Fatal Frame Trilogy on disc for PS3. There is no reason not to. Lots of Fatal Frame fans would instantly buy it. So sad that *other* video game company bought the rights to the series and then proceeded to do NOTHING with it in North America. It was such a great franchise.

  • Guacamelee, my Vita awaits you!

  • So I read that this iteration of Fatal Frame will have updated graphics and tweaks to the gameplay. Just wondering if there’s trophy support to go with it?

  • Sweetness glad to see XCom now available in PSN. Have a question. For those who bought stuff for at least fifty dollars I bought bioshock infinite in march when are we getting our ten dollars?
