MLB.TV Returns to PS3 Today

MLB.TV 2013

The 2013 Major League Baseball opening day is right around the corner and PS3 is ready for every home run, strikeout, no-hitter, diving catch and surprise that happens over the course of the season. Will the San Francisco Giants win their third World Series title in four years or is this the year the Washington Nationals put all the pieces together and take home the World Series trophy?

You can find out starting today as the Major League Baseball action can once again be watched with the new 2013 MLB.TV application for PS3, now available on PSN for customers in North America. The MLB.TV app gives you access to every out-of-market regular season game live in full HD, archived games, home and away broadcast feeds, as well as an array of interactive features designed to take advantage of the PS3 system’s technical prowess.

New for this season is the addition of a revamped user interface featuring a global navigation bar giving you the ability to select from all of the application’s interactive options without interrupting any game action. Read more about what MLB.TV Premium subscribers have access to with this year’s application below:

  • High Quality HD Streaming – Speed detection technology gives users HD video access depending on available bandwidth.
  • Enhanced Audio – In-game alternate audio selection allows users to overlay the home or away team’s broadcasters over the live video or use the “Park” option to include the ballpark’s natural sounds.
  • Home and Away Feeds – Choose to watch either the home or away broadcast feed.
  • Live Broadcast DVR Functionality – Use the live video overlay to pause and rewind live games or fast-forward to return to live game action.
  • Quick-Access Stats – View player cards with full career stats, league leaders, and in-game stats.
  • Event Navigation – Select in-game event types, such as home runs, hits or stolen bases, to show on a progression timeline and jump directly to the at bat where they happened.
  • Season Archive – Watch games and relive great moments from earlier in the season.
  • Scrollable Linescore – Go directly to any half-inning to watch only that portion of the game.
  • MLB Scoreboard – Scrollable league-wide scoreboard for each day’s games in three modes: Pre-game with scheduled starting pitchers; Live with up-to-the-moment game status; and Post-game with final pitching decisions and archived feed selection.
  • Favorite Team Selection – Pick a favorite team or teams to be featured first on the daily scoreboard.
  • Calendar Schedule – Scroll through the entire 2013 Major League Baseball schedule in calendar format or the user-designated favorite team’s schedule.

You can download the application now from the “Media & Apps” category on PlayStation Store and launch it from the TV/Video Services icon of the XMB. For the 2013 MLB season, MLB.TV Premium is available for a one-time fee of $129.99 or $24.99 per month, and can be used on the PS3 system. New subscribers can sign up here.

Enjoy the 2013 MLB season!

  • stupid mlb and sony. ugh…. make us pay 100+$ and dont do proper testing before rolling it out and then we are stuck waiting for them to fix it while we miss our games.. on opening day even!!

  • + tommy_03-01, + BadgeNC , and + Lerido: make sure your DNS settings are on auto and you have restarted your PS3.

  • @ Stone Home 1… I entered my internet DNS settings at Auto and restarted the PS3 and still getting last years…. How do you set the DNS another way?

  • I was having the same problem with the app freezing on a black screen. I changed the DNS settings as suggested in this post and it is now working. Appears to be a problem with Time Warner.

  • Greedy MLB…

So I now have to upgrade to premium in order to stream through my PS3. What more do I receive for an extra 30 dollars per year? Not enough to justify the upgrade. I’ll continue to hover a few inches from my computer monitor thank you very much, or perhaps you are going to make me upgrade to premium for that starting next year.

    Ridiculous.

PS: To those users stuck in 2012-mode, it is likely due to the fact that–like me–you are a lowly MLB.tv subscriber, without the shiny premium package.

  • Can I watch the free game of the day like in years past on the app?

  • Just spoke to sony, this is a known issue. The system is stuck in the 2012 season, they gave me a reference number and saidf to check back tomorrow.

  • I read on another forum to open the ps3 browser and delete internet history, cache etc and then the app would would work for the 2013 season. Im not home to try though.

  • Spent my money for the premium package, actually auto renewed from last year. Attempted today to sit down and watch some games. got nothing. I can see recaps from yesterdays games but cant advance past last year to watch games from this year. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with something they called support, and got advanced to some sort of email support. What a joke, reminds me of dealing with ATT.

  • For anyone who is only seeing the 2012 season, foses comment above worked for me.

  • How do you delete the internet history and cache on the PS3 browser? I know how to do this on a PC, but not on the godawful PS3 browser….

  • Okay, I figured out how to delete everything from the browser but I’m still getting games from last year. So I can’t watch MLB 2013 games on my two best TVs. Nice fail, PS3.

  • So apparently they pulled the latest update yesterday? All clear cache, history, blahblahblah doesn’t work and the PStore only has the version with a 2011 date. What a joke

  • I agree with those above who have raised the issues with the new version of MLB.TV. The product was near-perfect before. Now, I can’t use my normal blu ray controller with it because “enter” button functionality is gone. I have to use the “x” button. More to the point, the fast-forward and rewind features aren’t working, nor is jumping to an inning. On top of that, the event markers reset for every single game and don’t work properly, either.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’m hoping this will be patched VERY soon.

  • Same problem here. Locked into the 2012 season. Xbox app works perfectly and allows split screen of two games. Getting your butts kicked here, PS3. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

  • Guys, here’s what I did. The new app worked fine for me, but since I’m visually impaired, the older app was much more easier for me to use. I deleted the app and downloaded the app from the store. Make sure your DNS is set to auto, and it should work. Good luck!

  • ok after a useless hour with mlbtv on the phone this is what I did to get on the 2013 season.

    1. Deleted the mlbtv app from the ps3.
    2. Went to my pc and logged on to MLB and changed my password.
    3. Downloaded the mlbtv app again.
    4. Relinked my mlbtv account to my ps3, and entered the new code online.
    5. at ps3 browser, deleted cache, history, and cookies.
    6. turned off ps3 and restarted after 15 seconds.
    7. went to the mlbtv app and it was finally on the correct season

so annoying but it was finally fixed.

  • Seriously annoying, but deleting/reinstalling the app and then deleting history, cookies and cache worked for me.

  • As a side note, I’ve always noticed that streaming off my laptop and connecting that via HDMI to the TV produces a way better picture quality with less skipping/lagging than PS3 or 360 streaming.

  • As angry as it made me to have to jump through all of those hoops to watch the game last night, chewface357’s detailed rundown worked for me.

I did omit the password change part, though, and it still worked, so no need to go through that hassle if you don’t want to.
