The Drop: Week of January 14th 2012 New Releases

DmC reinvents Capcom’s classic action franchise to explore new frontiers with the series. The “Devil May Cry DNA” of stylish action, rewarding combat and a brash, smart-talking protagonist all remains; however, it has now injected with a dark and brutal gameplay that promises to redefine the franchise. The BioShock Ultimate Rapture Edition combines BioShock and BioShock 2 along with new Plasmids and Gene Tonics for the original BioShock, plus the Sinclair Solutions Tester pack, Rapture Metro Pack, The Protector Trials, and Minerva’s Den expansions for BioShock 2.

Enjoy this week The Drop.

DmC: Devil May Cry

(Also on PSN) — The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. He is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement.

BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition

The BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition includes the critically-acclaimed BioShock, BioShock 2 and add-on content for both games valued at more than $40. It also includes a trip to the never-before-seen Museum of Orphaned Concepts, providing a rare look at early concept art and character models that never made it into BioShock.

Angry Birds Trilogy — The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole the Birds’ eggs. Use the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds to lay waste to the pigs’ fortified castles. In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to the magical city of Rio, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to to save their friends, Blu and Jewel. And finally, Angry Birds Seaons, the birds are celebrating different festive seasons around the world. With more than 290 levels and regular free updates, these special episodes offer more challenging levels of pig-popping action and golden eggs to discover.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (PS Vita/PSP) — A sequel to the hit cult horror title, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows tells a series of short stories that help develop many of the characters introduced in the first game and expand their numbers with some “fresh meat” as well. Once again, “wrong ends” lurk around nearly every corner, amplified by binaural 3D audio effects and the chilling original Japanese voice track. Gameplay in Corpse Party: Book of Shadows takes on an all-new point-and-click mechanic, showcasing the spine-tingling events of Heavenly Host Elementary from a first-person perspective. As the terror level rises for individual characters, the game’s “darkening” system will slowly distort the game’s visuals and alter the students’ decision-making abilities. “Wrong ends,” in which characters are subjected to unfortunate and horrifying deaths, are once again on order, and this time players can save anywhere and fast-forward through events they’ve already seen in order to expedite the process of achieving each scenario’s true ending.

PlayStation 2 Classics

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness — Telling the tale of the self-absorbed Prince Laharl, Disgaea moves away fromthe typical “heroes of light” setting, and replaces it with a demon-infested netherworld. Awoken after a two-year slumber, Laharl is stunned to learn of his father King Krichevskoy’s death and the massive civil war for the throne that has followed. The rightful heir and all-around egocentric bastard that he is, Laharl isn’t about to lose his birthright without a fight, and it’s from there the story really takes off. Borrowing the same isometric approach that the Ogre Battle and Final Fantasy Tactics games have enjoyed over the years, Disgaea isn’t aimed at the novice RPG crowd — all the menus, items, weapons, are a perfect fit for any hardcore RPG fan, however.

Siren — The story of Forbidden Siren (European title), released as Siren in Japan in 2003, centers on a land-locked village in Japan that disappears following the loud blaring of a siren. Later that day, the once inhabitants of the village emerge from blood-red waters that now surround the remnants of the village. They’re no longer human though, having been somehow transformed into zombies. Choose from multiple characters, including a teenage boy leading a blind girl and a teacher and student duo to make your escape from the nightmare town. Forbidden Siren incorporates haunting environments, eerily realistic characters complete with motion-captured facial expressions, and unsettling camera techniques, resulting in one of the most terrifying games to date.

[Editor’s Note: The following dates are subject to change. Game details are gathered from Press Releases, Retail Descriptions, from their individual publishers and/or ESRB rating descriptions.]

  • Yay! Disgaea!!!

  • Ill wait till the store update to see what else is on the store

  • I would get me some more Corpse Party, but I haven’t brought myself to puzzle out how to get back out of the infirmary early on in the first game. Le sigh…

Well, let’s see if “owning” BioShock 2 via PS+ precludes me from even possibly buying this Ultimate Rapture Edition.

While Disgaea’s undoubtedly a PS2 Classic, I’d just as well nab the PSP version.

  • I approve of this Drop. Corpse Party, Bioshock, and good PS2 Classics.

  • only ps vita owners, kingdom hearts fans, metal gear solid fans and psx crash bandicoot fans don’t approves this drop

  • I for one do not give a rats ass about the annoying rants of DmC : Devil May Cry as I am 100% set on buying it, its okay if you hate on it based on connections to past games and appearance, you’re only missing out on another gaming experience.
With the release of the other distributed games it makes me wonder why a Disgaea collection had not been talked about or announced, either way it’ll please it’s fan base as well as the other games.

  • only ps vita owners, kingdom hearts fans, metal gear solid fans and psx crash bandicoot fans don’t approves this drop

Show of hands for any gamers that do not like these games. I see no hands. OK it is unanimous all gamers like these games. Drop sucks.
Not really. But it would be nice to have these games on the drop here. More than nice.

  • hey guys. Ni no kuni will be on ps store next week?

  • No brainer buying Disgaea 1 & 2 the next couple of weeks. Thanks NIS for listening to your fans!

  • Too many Psvita games!!!!!!

  • @56 Dante’s appearance is not the reason I hate DmC, the slowed down gameplay, limited combat, rather dull writing (and im not just talking about the “F*** You” Scene) Ninja Theory flat out insulting fans of the original games(Actually its more like one person form NT) and a mostly Dubstep sountrack, This is just a small list of my complaints, along with other long time fans.
I will say I do like some of the environments for limbo, but there so few and far between.

  • When is the playstation web store coming to US?

  • Ninja Theory are mediocre developers. Oh, and for the record, I never liked DMC (I do not hate nor love the old ones, I am neutral on them). I’m hating on DmC for its own merits and because Ninja Theory are incapable of making good games.

DmC is a floppy bomb piece of filthy trash. Hope the game flops so hard that both Ninja Theory and Capcom cry from how much money they lost.

  • Definitely will be picking up Corpse Party and Siren. When I get more money I’ll also pick up Disgaea 1 and 2.

  • The only game I wanted to know which system is for was Angry Birds, and that’s the only game here that it doesn’t specify.. How annoying.. :\ Someone fix this, please..

  • @16: Well that’s an ignorant expectation, because it’s NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Neither is Crisis Core. Accept and move on.

@27: Nothing it’s coming soon after this, I think next week… yup, next week.

  • Ecolibrium for PSVita please!!

  • @65: It’s PS3. Vita doesn’t have it. Sony dropped the ball, they should have tossed money at it to get it. Vita is the only platform that the game even makes sense on from the dedicated gaming devices out, not 360 with Kinect, not PS3 with Move and not the 3DS. The Vita could have the same gameplay that everyone knows the series for, but no.

  • Oh geez Corpse Party… It was bound to happen eventually.

@16 Will you just STFU already?

  • Yes Corpse Party i was wanting. Question does it have a japanese sound and english text?

  • Why do I get errors for my cloud saves on vita! No!!!! Lbp vita!

  • i hope we get Disgaea as part of plus

  • Sony, im highly dissapointed in the updates that have been givin out lately.. these games you are giving us are very weak. i have every sony product avaliable. i was proud to be a sony customer.. sony is starting to fall off. please reconsider the games you guys give out how about these ideas:: NBA JAMZ (PS VITA),,MADDEN ARCADE(PS VITA),,BETTER PS2 CLASSICS ,,BETTER PSN GAMES (SHOOTERS,SPORTS,ADVENTURE). I was a ps PLUS member . didnt renew because the game selection and price breaks were horrible. thanks for reading …..EW

  • Angry birds on PSN? Seriously?

If vita PS+ is wasted on Angry Birds (which we seriously do not need) I will personally hunt down and kill whoever makes those decisions.

    Thant is all.

  • Hey Rey, is the Metal Gear Rising Revengeance demo coming out this week? I want to play it before I get the game this Febuary.

  • Ryumoaner: “Nothing for me this week”

That’s what you said last week. And the week before last. And the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that, and the week before that…

Hmm… maybe gaming just isn’t for you?

  • @ ant10122

You need to get back on your meds, pal. Or start taking some new ones. Something…

  • I ran out of them a while ago, I seem to be keeping myself under control at the moment. I think releasing Angry Birds as the free vita title might push me over the edge though

  • @53 It might not, but we’ll see.

  • hoo boy, figures this many games would come out when I’m tapped! Stupid new tax laws kicking into effect. Corpse Party, Siren and DMC are all added to the buy list!

  • @ ant10122

Well then, you’re in luck (or maybe it’s the rest of us who are lucky), because the Angry Birds Trilogy is only for the big screen. Now you won’t have to try to convince the police that the blood all over your clothes is really just ketchup.

  • “The Drop: Week of January 14th 2012 New Releases” I think you mean 2013 :)

  • @dragon_night

Dude, you have said that EVERY DROP FOR THE PAST MONTHS!!!

We get it, you want kingdom hearts.

  • Ooooh Disgaea 1… kinda interested but the PSP version has more content. But I mean the original is still good, depending on the price, maybe I’ll get.

  • cant wait for plus this week! great since E3! i love what you guys have been giving me i lov eevery game on here! no complaints! i really love ps+ i hope its something really great!
every one complains, i dont im love what you gave me!

  • @63 thats the reason i didn’t even use a Gamefly rental slot on the game. Not even interested in getting the trophies right now. Too many other important games coming soon.

  • @remanutd5 is so demanding every week.

lackluster week…u’d think another developer would of competed. also worth noting, if you buy DMC at best buy they’ll give you Resident Evil 6 for 9.99 check your local store for accuracy.

  • Does anyone know what the pre-order bonuses for DmC are? Do PSN pre-orders also get Vergil’s downfall? Any info would be appreciated, thanks~

  • hey cant wait for plus! i want my free game or games! plus!

  • nice drop! looks very good!

  • @73
Have you even looked at the XBOX store updates? You should STILL be proud that Sony even gives us more than just Disney and Superhero games updated to the store every week. (For $40+ when the game is $20 at gamestop, and microsoft doesn’t drop the price till about 6 months after that)
Your recommendations are terrible, and definitely will do nothing to better PSN. PSN needs more cooperative and multiplayers games FOR PS3 is what it needs, not NBA Jam and and Madden Arcade for Vita.

  • looks good this week, Miss you in the blogcast Rey!!!

  • The guy who posted this looks like a real life Dante’. emo. The soundtrack to that game is distractingly offputting

  • hi
    Me,As a Tyrant Overlord
i command you to release disagea fast

Plus,Dont forget to eat Sardines !

  • Cant wait to try Disgea. I never tried any installments before. DMC Is a definite pass for me after trying the demo. Any chance you guys can start listing prices for your Drop List?

  • Anyone know the price for Corpse Party: Book of Shadows?

Please enter your date of birth.
